Follow the tutorial on a rom, what you want to install... I think you will have to root your device, then go to JVU Stock 2.3.6 Gingerbread rom, then you free to install any CM9 or CM10

First xou have to root your device, then you have to install the cwm recovery, download the Rom and the gapps from a thread. Next you have to do a backup if you want to go back to 2.1. And after this you have to do a full wipe from recovery and then install the Rom and afterwards the gapps and then reboot.
Hope i helped

You can try superoneclick to root your phone. I was on 2.3.3 I9000M and rooted using one click tool. The tool supports many other models. Make sure USB debugging is enabled and all the drivers are installed. Connect your phone and turn on USB, choose auto under Exploit section and click root. Download the tool (Latest Version) from here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=803682
If rooting process is Successful, superuser will be installed automatically in your phone.

did you figure anything out? I found the firmware (2.3.3) for my model and country (Trinidad and Tobago) at samsung updates but my problem is that I don't know which Odin program to use for my model.
I was thinking about using the update method intended for the GT-I9000 to update my I9000T to gingerbread. Apparently the phones are identical except that the GT-I9000T supports 850 MHz 3G while the GT-I9000 supports 900 MHZ 3G instead. I am wondering if it will work without bricking my phone

Try the CF-Root kernel.

Thank you, Lunchbox for your fast reply !
But there are many CF-Root-Kernels.
Which one is the right ?
Sorry, but I am a newbie in Kernel-choice....
if you cant be bothered flashing kernels etc here is the the superoneclick method...
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SuaXu8kusvA
just follow that and you will be rooted, then get titanium backup and do a batch backup
Use CF-Root for the JPO firmaware you have. Each kernel has the firmware extension at the end of its file name.

Superoneclick I have testet, but without success .
Does kernel JPO really fit my kernel JV8 ??
Same problem here.
After updating a t-mobile branded I9000 to 2.3.3 via KIES (including wipe) my programs and settings are gone.
All data has been saved in TitanBackup. Unfortunatly TB needs root.
SOC didn't work, now I'm looking for alternatives.
Heard, that cf-root can fix my prob, but still got following questions:
will cf-root work on my branded galaxy?
which cf-root version do I need?

Is there no solution available ?
As far as I know it is possible to root the Galaxy with the FuguRoot.
One thing that is still missing is the correct Odin flashable stock kernel.
Till now there is no kernel for the I9000BOJV8 available at Samfirmware.
I'll keep looking for the kernel.
Hoping to get a quick solution.

Yes you are on nonrootable rom.
I giving u guideline here follow it.
1. If you have already any older rom on your hand, then just flash it with pc odin
Then get root + cwm,
After that, you can update to newer rom with cwm.
2. If you dont hav older rom handy, just find last link on my signature 'when other method fail.....' Follow that link, then you will have rooted rom.
After that u can get cwm/ mobile odin and update newr rom with it.

[Q] Downgrading to rootable ROM in order to install custom ROM?

Hi all,
Seems like ICS will be delayed and instead of waiting for it, I've decided to install custom ROM. But before doing so, I would like a few comments from XDA SIFUs...
1.Am currently on:
Baseband ver: N7000DXKL2
Kernel ver: 2.6.35.7-N7000DXLA1
Does that means I'm now on LA1 ROM?
2.If so, i understood that it's not directly rootable, thus needed to be downgraded. Referring to Dr Ketan's information, http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1424997, i would like to downgrade to:
N7000DXKL3 ------ -------2011 December-------- N7000OLBKL2
Will that be...KL3 or KL2?
3.Once downgraded using Odin, will it increase the flash counter?
4.After downgraded, can I just use Zergrush exploit method to root my phone?
5.Which custom ROM is recommended?
Thanks in advance...

N7000XXKL3 ------ 2.3.6 2011 December-------- N7000ODDKL1 --------------------India
3. this stock ROM, which won't raise counter
4.yes, n if you downgrade to above said ROM (which i hav recommend), select ' I have kernel KL1' N follow procedure from thread 'How to Root..."
5.Sorry here, I never tried any custom ROM

Hi ketan,
I received my SGN yesterday and right away the phone updated itself to LB2 (India).
I felt the need to root immediately to shift my apps from my older custom romed galaxy ace to SGN.
I read up your guide and rooted through odin (PC) which rooted my kernel down to the KJ1 version. After the customary reboot everything seemed ok - it showed superuser+CWM in app list. Then the pixellated screen began appearing after the screen off. I could only come out of it by removing battery.
On searching these forums i found some posts on pixellated screen caused by certain custom kernels in SGN. I thought that may be the kernel was being incompatiable with my SGN hardware . Then i downloaded the latest stock rom (LC1 - open europe) and tried flashing the new rom using CWM - but surprisingly the CWM prompted for the CSC file only in the firmware folder. It didnt ask for code and modem files. Still i went ahead with the installation and the CWM installed the new rom with apparently no problems - still the kernel is showing KJ1 after this and again the pixxelation problem is still there.
Iam no expert but i think the kernel KJ1 is the problem
(my baseband version is XXLB2)
Present status
Android version 2.3.6
Kernel Version 2.6.35.7 - ....KJ1 -CL627135
Build number GB.XXLC1
Can i retain my root and upgrade my kernel and get rid of this pixxelation problem ?
Is there an good way to do this ?

If you need a full stock rom you must flash through odin.Flashing through CWM will keep the kernel the same so you have the problem continuing.Flash the rom using PC odin and the problem will be solved

How to root SGS GT-I9000T (2.1) ?

Firmware Version: 2.1-update1
Baseband Version: I9000TUBJG7
Kernel Version: 2.6.29

Build Number: ECLAIR.UBJG5
I am not sure if this has been asked before but I am tired of searching here, YouTube and Google. I want to root this model. I am not sure if the GT-I9000 rooting process will work as mine is a GT-I9000T . I would have been just fine using Samsung Kies to update Gingerbread but Kies just isn't working right and my phone isn't connecting; I swear, that thing is worse than internet explorer!
I would like the safest method to root my phone so that I can update to Jelly Bean. If I link can be provided so that I can get the right update file for my model. I heard that the only difference between the I9000 and the I9000T is that that first supports 900 MHz 3G while the latter supports 850 MHz 3G
Thanks in advance! I am close to the edge and very frustrated!

I don't see my model on the list. I don't want to risk bricking my phone if it carries more than a 15% risk of bricking even when I follow the instructions in detail.

how to root galaxy s GT-I9000 gingerbread 2.3.3 I9000JXJV6 GINGERBREAD.JPJV6

i tried to root the phone with following specification:
Galaxy S GT-I9000
Model No: GT-I9000
Firmware version: 2.3.3
Baseband verion: I9000JXJV6
Kernal version: 2.6.35.7-I9000JPJV6-CL233266 [email protected] #4
Buildnumber: GINGERBREAD.JPJV6
i used framaroot 1.9.3. result was unsuccessful. it will tell that root was successful but using root checker it says not. then i tried framaroot 1.5.3. i used supersu instead of superuser. this time root checker gives the answer that its successful. but no supersu app installed. i dont know whether this version install supersu app or not. but when i tried to unroot it with 1.5.3 is said success done. but root checker still shows that phone is rooted.
in this case how can i unroot it for safe side.
Then how can i root it using odin.
These are the thing my understanding:
use odin3 v.1.83 Better to install odin3 on windows XP sp2 for samsung galaxy s I9000.
csc firmware: i downloaded GT_I9000_JPJV6_JXJV6_OJPJV6_Sbl.7z
use kernal : Kernel_JPJV6.7z
but which CF-root i have to use for rooting using odin? no idea about this. nobody mentions it.
first i want to know how to unroot which i rooted using framaroot 1.5.3
then i want to know how to root using odin using CF-root?
As far as I remember Framaroot doesn't install SuperSu or any busybox app by defaut - it only provides root access. Usually you have to install a superuser app afterwards. If the root checker app says you're rooted, it's probably right.
Unrooting can be done by flashing any stock rom using Odin over the top. You won't lose your data.
CF-Root kernels are specifically built for different firmwares - therefore if you can't find one specifically for JPJV6 there isn't one. The best thing to do if you do want to root via Odin is to flash a custom kernel or flash a CF-Root supported firmware, such as XXJW4 of XXJVU before flashing CF-Root for whatever build.
Personally I'd go with the latter just to be safe - XXJW4 is a rock-solid firmware anyway.
Im facing another problm now. I tried to unroot using kinga root. After unrooting then i tried to root with kingaroot. It said successful but on reboot it says it says didnt root. Then i tried to root vth framaroot 1.5.3. this time its failed. I cannot root any more.

I understood that we should not flash latest CM from 2.3.3 to 4.4.4 because it will remove IMEI
The 152MB file is the actual rom, so you'll want to be flashing that through Odin. The stock kernel is something else (and comes with the rom so you don't really need to worry about that). Both files are official firmwares as well.

At last i did it.
let me explain what all I did.
As i told you i installed CWM 2.5.1.2 using rom manager. but it never worked.
so i downloaded CF-Root-XX_OXA_JVP-v3.7-CWM3RFS.zip.
I used odin 1.83 to flash. i also downloaded the clockworkmod 2.5.1.2 officially. they recommend this. but i need to root it so i used CF-Root-XX_OXA_JVP-v3.7-CWM3RFS.zip.
it rooted properly and CWM 3.0.5 was installed.
I did CWM recovery and all wipeout mentioned. then i flashed the CM10.2. damn. this time it failed again i mentioned. it then restarted automatically and restated to CMW 6 version. then it started again the loop. but here what i did was. I started pressing VOL UP + Home + POWER button. this time i got into CWM 6.. Then again I wiped. This time i flashed CM 11 latest without any issue.
So Its possible to flash from gingerbread 2.3.3 to CM 11.
@jaheshkhan Cyanogenmod normally won't erase your IMEI but Slim ROMs would.
Rom Manager app is useless for the i9000 as the recovery on this device can not be flashed separately, it is part of the kernel image
