[Q] Cant install widget - Hero CDMA Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Sorry for noob question but for some reason I am unable to add
Ringer off widget to my home or any other screens. I tried to create
one but did not find an option of doing so thn i downloaded SilentOnOff widget
but when i click on my home page and thn click add thn widgets, it does not show
me SilentOnOff widget any where So please let me know what to do. All i need is
shortcut or a widget to turn ringer on or off with one click so if you have any
other suggestions please do let me know.
Thank you in advance.
I am using CM7.03 on sprint htc hero.

Did you install it to the SD card? Or why not just set one of the power control buttons in the pulldown for ringer on/off? Or just long press the power button and turn it on/off there.

Thank you for prompt reply.
I only see option for to make a button for Ringer toggle to Vibrate but not
silent and when i long pressed on power button the silent mode it gives me
is vibrate mode not ringer off mode, I have just double checked.

GOT IT!!!!
A good fellow from cynogenmod website "VsCDMAHero" helped me
with that.
Thank you and God bless

Ok, glad you got it sorted. I think you can adjust the vibrate option to actually be silent in settings somewhere.

Yes actually the option is right there below, I had no idea earlier
but since now I know it has opened alot of customization options for me.
I have already made couple of widgets that I needed all this time. I am new so
still learning some basic stuff

power bar widget

When I had the hero rom on my old g1 it had a widget kinda like a power strip with wifi bluetooth, vibrate, screen brightness on it. Does anybody know how to get that or if it is available for the Eris?

How to wake phone up with trackball?

Hey all,
Anyone know what I need to do to make it where I can press my trackball to wake my phone instead of the top button? Thanks a lot!

you have to have a custom rom installed in order to do this, the standard vanilla android will not allow you to do this.

Installing CyanogenMod would accomplish what you are asking for.
please post this in the correct forum next time
http://forum.xda-developers.com/forumdisplay.php?f=603
Actually most if not all lock screen replacements do this if you don't want to root.. though you are losing your lock screen for some crappy alternative.
Thanks for the advice...I will put it in Q&A next time my bad sorry!
I just manually installed Froyo 2.2 FRF72 on my N1...I heard there is a prerooted rom you can install but I think its Modaco only? Do you think Cyan will release something like this soon thats prerooted cause I would love to get some cyan and have the trackball thing working!
THANKS for your comments!

Think Cyanogen is going to be away this week but cm6 test0 is being tested somewhere It will come soon enough
No need to root your N1, just install [Lockbot Pro v1.14.1.apk]
Lockbot Pro can wake up your phone by pressing trackball or volume keys
You can also try "No Lock", which is free.
It removes the need to slide to unlock and also allows Trackball and Volume Keys wake.
It also has a widget for a quick activation of the normal waking, so the phone doesn't wake all the time when it's in your pocket.

FlyScreen is another. And this is the third "how do I wake by tracbkall?" thread I've seen in a few weeks....

Thanks vitorjna for the info
I just stumbled on this thread by accident but your suggestion is really appreciated!
I'd always hate having my Nexus One music going in my car and having to go through the unlock screen if I wanted to skip a song. I even started using Cubed music player since it has a lockscreen widget but the music player itself is pretty bad. Now I can go back to using the regular music player that I like more without having to worry about driving unsafe.
No Lock works but I don't want my Lock Screen removed, I just want wake with trackball.
Flyscreen is crap, I don't want the widgets so I removed them but now I get an update thing every time I get to the lockscreen.
Is there any app like No Lock but with lockscreen?

The way these programs work is that they dismiss the system keyguard (Because the keyguard is what prevents the phone from waking when the trackball is pressed). This is done by creating a window with FLAG_DISMISS_KEYGUARD. Then the system keyguard is gone and the app can either close, leaving no keyguard (Like no lock), or act as a pseudo keyguard (like flyscreen). There is no way to force the system keyguard to activate again after it's dismissed.
Cyanogen's method is better because it's a custom rom.
If you want to try another lockscreen I can recommend my own WidgetLocker, which has Easy Wake (trackball wake) and has slide to unlock and won't try to download widget updates (It uses actual Android Widgets, not those flyscreen ones, so you can control your music from the lockscreen or put BetterHome there or whatever).

I find I like no lock the best for the moment. Most times I dont want the lock feature but when I do its one tap of the 1x1 widget and its on. One tap and its off on the flipside. Used it on cm as well since I prefer the volume rocker to wake.

Hello,
can you tell me how to setup lockbot pro to wake up when I press the trackball? after a while, nothing I do will turn on my N1, except for the power button. and I hate using the power button to turn on my phone.
Thanks
I've tried "No Lock" and it works well. However its unable to unlock when "pin/password" is enabled.(forced by my exchange email account)
Anyone know of something that can bypass this too ?

[Q] Quick question

I searched for this but found nothing, is their any mod or app that has a press to unlock feature? Instead of a slider, just a press to unlock. Thanks for any help in advance.
i think widget locker may have that option using the hardware keys rather than on screen touch
yeah it does, im really wanting to find a on screen button. i had it on my old iphone 3g which i just cut on for the first time in over a year, and relized how nifftie it was lol
I like your icons btw

Themes and Apps

For the HTC Salsa
htc Salsa
Hey where is the link for themes of htc salsa. no link provided for themes.
If you are going to update it check the abstract category and sports.
I mostly like the abstract themes they are multicolor and looks good with anytime in day light and night time also. See they are of ]Htc salsa theme only not of another phone model.

Sleep Mode Alternative - Black Screen Saver
Being a power Android user, it annoys me when going into standby often to save battery use and you have to slide the HTC ring thing every time to return. A newly developed app from G.P. called "Screen Saver" (Malamber) is extremely effective and simple to use and just set the screen timeout to never turn off.
It turns the screen black to brightness 0, one press to start and one press of home to return. Also has a one touch to activate clock if needed.
Saves hard press of power button and additional slide the ring thing everytime.

Can't move apps or add widgets. Please Help!

Ok so this just happened like 5 minutes ago and I have never seen it before. I long hold the apps on my screen (not in the drawer, but on the screen) and I can't move any. I also can't long hold a blank spot and add a widget or anything. I know I can clear out a whole screen and add everything back but that is annoying. Any help would be great. And yes I have rebooted.
Haha my bad I guess I pressed lock desktop. Sorry guys.
Does this mean I thank myself??

Hi Noob,
I have the same problem. Nothing happens if I long-press a widget shortcut, whereas it used to enable me to move or delete said shortcut.
If I locked my desktop I did by accident and have no idea how to undo.
I have an HTC one with viper. Any tips?
