On a dutch website the headline says "HTC president promises new drivers for plaged devices"
In short english .... Driver was not implemented because HTC needed to pay for the driver. They tried to program it themselves but its seams they will now pay for the driver with Qualcomm . The driver should be avaiable at the end of march ..... Its not yet know for what devices though.
Lets wait and see and hope
Time will tell...
We know. if you have been looking at htcclassaction.org then it shows that also. I think it was someone on here that got the email saying that and he told Chainfire.
brilliant news.
Do we think that the user is going to end up paying for the driver then?
This makes me glad I held onto my Tilt. I can't wait to knock the dust off it & fire up with the new drivers.

I doubt it, and if they do I expect one person will buy it and then they'll be put into a new ROM for all to use.
I've contacted T-Mobile about it asking to get in touch with HTC and see how they plan to distribute it.
WOW
That a marvelous news..cant wait..
so its mean our TyTn II will be the best phone ever after that..
Just keep your guard up, if this doesn't turn out to work and the CEO is just pulling us or this is fake, then dont whine and complain.
I'm itching to buy one of these phones as an upgrade to my aging Vario (Wizard) but I'm still going to hold off pending confirmation of this great news from an official source at HTC. Once I know they are really going to address this issue then I'll be happy to buy now and put up with the current poor display performance (which I observed first-hand in the store) until the drivers are released. Hopefully someone like chainfire will be able to confirm this for us soon.
Andre
Great ****ing news! I want to be optimistic about, and celebrate HTC when they come through at the end of March.
Actually, there's a new ROM out today. I wonder if there's a surprise in it.
Hi
The problem with this is that it is in no way official and until it is made official by an announcement on the HTC website it's nothing more than viral marketing.
It there were any truth in it HTC would be all too keen to shout it from their website surely?
Until it is made official from HTC this "email" is either some strange hoax or a deliberate fabrication from HTC PR marketing.
The HTC Class action site should not be falling for it and giving it publicity. If the chief executive really wanted to reassure his customer's it would be official on the HTC website. To think he would email personally to one particular person making claims of a forthcoming fix is quite frankly very unbelievable!
As to checking the email for correct SMTP headers etc, it takes nothing to fabricate those, it is only a text document after all that can be edited at will!

Phil

I don't think so. Please, check the coming SonyEricsson XPERIA X1:
Screen of 800x400 !!!
Hardware acceleration (supported with drivers) Being able to accelerate 3D graphics and decode HD Video!!
Windows Mobile 6.5
400MB of internal memory
MircroSDHC slot
QWERTY keyboard (slideable) with a much more robust mechanism than our Tytn II
3.2 MPX Cam... Cybershot!! (CarlZeis + Flash + 3x Optic)
Assisted GPS
Metal-case
Slim design
Less weight
Wonderful interface (iPhone beater)
And I'm prety sure, this brand will not disappoint us with such a device (I mean, we will not have surprises like... oh! I can't play videos... even the cam of the phone is useless, or it hangs up when touching the screen)
I took the decision of not let me being robbed by anyone, neither taunted by any brand. So I'll NOT buy a device from HTC never more. Instead of it, I'll inmediately buy the Sony device and put my AWUFULL tytn2 in sale...
Guys... HTC will probably NEVER officially announce that.
As I've said before in sticky thread:
1. It will confirm that there was an issue and we were right.
2. It will contradict their official statement about their "price policies" and that "Kaiser was never indended to have drivers and be a high end video-device" or whatever.
3. If something goes wrong they won't be able to backup from releasing drivers. By "something" I mean shaky Qualcomm's position, they did lose the court case and who knows what can happen with that company. And HTC as I understand will be relying on Qualcomm for drivers.
4. This publicity is not that good for them, as it will stay in people's minds that HTC is releasing devices, and drivers for them with a huge delay. Not a good marketing.
Of course, they have smart strategists working there and perhaps they will deem it profitable to release the official statement. We will just have to wait and see. But besides that - I wouldn't wait for official statement.
Oh and one more thing - chainfire updated htcclassaction.org, he says that they've analyzed smtp headers of the letter and they do look genuine. Besides that (as I udnerstand) they've sent a separate letter to Mr Chou and he confirmed that those are his emails.
CHAMPAGNE *****EZ!!!!

It depends on how fast we raise money to buy the devs a device.

Similiar to the first rule of fight club. ;-)
Actually, I'd be amazed if cyanogen or teamdouche ever developed for the nook. Not really their device, you know?
It will get done when it gets done.
I do expect that someone will be working on it if they aren't already:
CyanogenMod is too popular, too good and has a lot of talented people who work on it for there NOT to be someone who wants it on a Nook Color- and can do it.
And I really hope it happens- can't be too soon for me!
There are a lot of things I hope to be able to do with mine and the best shot is a CM rom, I think.
Donate some $ to help speed up the process

Its Android....of course its "their device"
wouldnt surprise me if the ole boy emself stepped out and built one for the misses.
If they ever do it, maybe within 6 months. Do we even know if someone is working on it?
Im going out to the bar with thedudesandroid and mikey1022 this Thursday, and they are expecting me to bring the NookColor I haven't bought yet (should have it Weds)....hopefully it will put a seed in dudes head to buy one/develop for it *cough* *cough*
For those that dont know, its unlikely for a official port to happen unless one of the devs has one unless someone makes an unofficial port of it. but I believe before we can start thinking about ROMs there needs to be a full system dump, and I dont think we are that far....yet.
I spoke with cyanogen & co last night via Tinychat. There is interest in the device, but, and there's always a but:
1) They don't have the thing. I'm running a donate fund to fix this!
2) Tablets(1024x600 res in particular) are a "new" form factor which will need changes to Android's UI to make it "great". In My Humble Opinion, regular CM ported over will work just fine, but there is always room for improvement.
3) They have a full plate already. Have you SEEN how many devices are supported already?

With all due respect, the default OS is not that bad IMO. It looks clean and responds well enough for the masses who want one for an e-reader. You can go ahead a root it now and put on ADW.Launcher to make it somewhat like you like it.
This is my first android device to be honest. I am a little dissapointed with the interface, not quite what I was expecting.
I am trying to get ångström linux to boot on it but not having any joy so far..

i feel ashamed they call it android with whats on the nook. They riped it apart left tiny bits. this is akin removing all the interior from a car and saying thats how its suppose to be
A hint of things to look forward to
The first real sign that someday this will be more than just hope and conjecture ...

I find this very curious, since January, I have been very vocal on the Samsung USA Facebook page as well as Twitter about the missing Froyo update. Today I went to check the Facebook page to find that somehow I had lost the ability to post anything.. shortly thereafter, I realized that I no longer "liked" the Samsung USA page. I did not do that myself, Samsung must have had that done (reported me for spamming/abuse?). Perusing the wall posts, I notice a distinct lack of people complaining about the 2.2 update.
I was not abusive, I did not swear or use foul language in any of my posts on that wall. I cracked a few jokes, sure, but nothing that could have been considered over-the-top. In fact, I waited until AFTER the promised "by the end of the year" deadline (promised to me on Twitter by @GalaxySSupport) to even being posting any complaints.
Is this Samsung's damage-control strategy moving forward? To try to stifle public outcry by booting us off of your pages and deleting our posts?

Unless samsung comes out with something AMAZING (honeycomb for my Epic) to make up for all their lack with the galaxy S line, I will never buy another samsung product again.
SO MANY of my tech friends said "samsung does not support their phones, YOU WILL BE UPSET"
As I sit here the audio out ports on both my car and desk docks DO NOT WORK because they haven't released a year old 2.2 froyo.
Looks like my tech friends were right. The only reason my gps works is because of the hard working dev's here......and I have paid them for their work! I feel horrible for all the stock users in the world who have a **** gps thanks to samsung.

Same happened to me with the Captivate on AT&T's website. Except mine was all hardware complaints.
My hardware is perfect
But sadly software is not! Unless they move away from carrier based updates this will be my last Samsung or Android based phone.
Remember Samsung when my phone crashes due to poor or out of date software or can't download something for the same reason I don't see the 3 mobile logo all I see is the Samsung logo.
This is all happening too close to the release of the Galaxy S 2 launch!

Man, same thing happened to me w/ my Epic review. I was pretty honest that i loved the hardware but the software needed updating. Got a message saying my review did not match what they were looking for and was rejected. Pretty easy to have devices w/ 4 and 5 star aggregate scores on your website if you're controlling which reviews you accept samsung.
You guys should take some screenshots of this and send it around to sites like engadget. The more bad press we can get for samsung, the faster we see updates. Worked for the t-mobile guys after they very publicly accused samsung of holding back the update to sell their newer phone.
Hi Guys,
I am also a samsung owner, not the galaxy S series but a phone called the Samsung Spica i5700; not supported by Samsung anymore after they claimed the hardware was not capable to run Android 2.2 froyo, ehh! the devs over at samdroid have ported AOSP and CM builds of 2.2 froyo onto it and are as of now porting AOSP and CM of GB.
the point I have is samsung is pathetic in customer support, all they want is to sell the customers to buy there new devices, and when the samsung #nevergain hashtag was started by an xda member and the hashtag went BOOM into samsung's face they are here to regain some respect, for that they need to prove a point to us, we have already proven them wrong.
I think the way to froyo, is to keep the heat up till they break down and beg to give source away.
everyone should retweet this:

What can I say that has not been said more eloquently by others.
GPS + Froyo for Captivate Update please. As that would make the phone much more desirable and usable, The immediate next thing I am going to do is Ebay that Piece Of S***. Seriously Never going to touch a samsung phone even with a barge pole.
Thank you Samsung for making the Galaxy S brand a pinnacle for quality, support and customer satisfaction.
P.S. I know this has been posted before and does not add ANYTHING, but had to vent.
What the hell is samsungjohn discussing with the xda people? I mean it's been fully 5 days now and absolutely nothing of substance has emerged. What is taking so long? I mean seriously, can someone give an update or something?
Im not really sure theres much to discuss... but yeah, IF the 'hello' part 2 posts WERE the big announcement, it would be nice if the XDA powers that be just posted 'Sorry, thats really all he had to say, he wants to meet devs at a music festival, thats it... he is gone now, go about your business'. I just really hope he doesnt think an 'open dialogue' is a HUGE announcement, and actually has something WE care about. He may just think that was huge because, well its his thing... his job... to us its like, yeah, another source for cut n paste responses... great... oh and one not on FB or Twitter! How convenient!
Whoa! Did this just get moved to 'off topic'???
Wow... its like Samsung Mobile with negative comments!
whatever... Guess its not technically about a phone.

Oh, that's terrible.
1- Cannot install any program on my phone such as SSH client I use for work and nothing on the market place.
2- No GPS with direction software.
3- Cannot sync my device with outlook 2010 on my computer.
4- RTL or BIDI languages show character by character and I cannot read websites in those languages.
5- Opera mobile was my choice of surfing the web but now cannot be used.
6- Not much choice of ringtones or themes.
7- I do not want to use any pirated software but this is not what I expected. I feel trapped in Microsoft powered HTC jail and am very concerned about my privacy.
The device works fast, is responsive and neat but I consider not buying HTC mobile products anymore.

He's got a valid point but I wouldn't blame HTC. Those problems are on all Windows Phone 7 phones. HTC makes great phones. Buy an Android phone dude. I have the HD7 but I also kept all my Android phones I've bought over the years. My HD7 stays put away in my pocket unless the battery in my Android phone dies or I wanna watch something on Netflix and it will stay in my pocket or put away until HTC/Microsoft/T-Mobile release a MAJOR update to fix or add all the features I need in my phone. I have a feeling it will remain in my pocket for quite some time tho.

If this helps others or points htc/ms to do something, i would again register to post.
8- Battery life is real short. I read somewhere that changing the backgound to full black will improve the battery life and it does but wifi, 3g, screen light and light background are battery killers! I used to have much more battery life on my old diamond 2!

Droid phone as you mentiond do have many good points but a lot of my points also applies to phones like desire hd.
I guss it is about users againt big guys or better said being jailled by big guys. Take IPhone as an example. Microsoft mobile was the only one that was not a warden but looks like competition drives them that way. It is a shame. They just do not or do not like to think if they are good the customer will stay with them.

exactly.... nothing is perfect on birth...everything needs versions and versions...
be it software or hardware...everything will become perfect or nearly perfect in time. ( for example : windows xp was crap , then with sp2 ...BAM!!!)ok nothing else is coming to my head..but you got the idea , right ??
with updates and revised mobile bodies , any mobile can top.,..
just give HTC or MS ( or any other company ) some time for their updates, after they review all the positive negative feedback....
Although you'r a first time poster on XDA, i'm sure your familiar with Forum's in general and forum rules. The main one being READ THE STICKIES AND SEARCH BEFORE POSTING.
All of what you have said has been convered a dozen times and is also consolidated with the other "Features" which the OS is lacking in a Stickie at the top of this forum (here) AND in the WP7 Generic Forum (Here or Here).
As for some of your concerns, why are you concerned about your privacy? Please explain. The "changing the background colour to black" won't help you with an HD7, as it uses an SLCD screen, meaning no matter whether it's white or black, the backlight will still be on. This is only relevant for LED screens where a black screen means the pixels are not illuminate and therefore consuming no power (however when they're white, they consume up to 3x as much power as an LCD screen). My HD7 provides me with about 36 hours of charge, with screen brightness set to auto, and wifi/bluetooth/gsm all turned on. I could go a day and a half without a charge however i've always charged smartphones every night anyway as they all consume alot of power.
Other than that, welcome to the forum. As other's have said, the OS is only 4 months old. Give it time. The features you want will become available sooner or later.
Thanks everyone for your replies.
I know that a lot of my points are posted and discussed in other post but I thought it might be good to put them together as a sort of complaint.
Apple's IPhone mobile OS was new and I can see 3 and 4 share a lot of features. With Google you know that you will have to do syncs online. I had an idea about what he wanted and WP7 was disappointing. However I have to wait and see what will happen after MS and/or HTC work on HD7.
I have to sync my calendar and contacts with my live account and this is a huge lake of privacy in WP7.
Given the fact that I have paid for a lot of apps on my diamond 2 such as SSH client, VoIP softphone, GPS, I thought just like software on my desktop I will be able to use most of them or there will be an upgrade for my HD7 WP7.
I sit crossing my fingers and hope big guys think about users.
Windows Phone 7 is clearly not for you. Return the phone and get something else.

Unfortunately, it seems you didn't do enough research before making the jump to Windows Phone 7.
Forget about the phone hardware itself, Windows Phone 7 is a totally different platform than Windows Mobile 6.5 and below. Two totally separate products. Your complaints are not complaints because they are all issues that Microsoft is well aware of and that everyone has discussed before. This is a brand new product, and of course things won't be perfect and won't have all the features you demand.
As for the software you previously purchased, that's not a fault of Microsoft as they did not develop such software. That falls on the developers of your software. They make the decision whether to develop software compatible with Windows Phone 7, and they make the decision to offer you free upgrades or not. That is not something Microsoft can control. So regardless of the platform, when you buy software, you are at the mercy of those developers.
And in regards to your privacy and information through Windows Live, you are not required to sign in with a Windows Live ID. You can skip that part of the setup process and use the basic features of your phone. But you miss out on many of the phone's features of course. So that is totally up to you.

Hellz no! And if there was this much crying nonbody could pull steve jobs' sack out of their face long enough to show you their tears.
I understand the OP's issues... as minor as they are, but sweet Jesus it has been beat to death. Nobody needs empty praise, but the unecessary crying over what amounts to nothing, or temporary shortcomings needs to stop.
Or better yet, it could be worse. Here we're wanting a FREE software update. With apple you'll be waiting till next year to buy a whole new phone so you can get something that another phone has had for the past 5 years.
And with Android (as cool as it is) you may or may not even get the latest/greatest updates.
So... uhh, yeah... g'head and dry those tears Homie.
1. MS not release socket support right now yet til Mango update,so no any ssh apps for sure.
2. I think that from above.
3. Maybe TouchXperience can help you.
youtube.com/watch?v=aAgd-iTBlGs
4...
5. Because of no socket support, any browser must be use an IE engine to communicate web browser, so no need to use an other browser.
6. I think I see this answer in "Windows Phone 7 Development and Hacking section".
7. If MS not awaking right now, we have no choice, because we know WP7 is good but not perfect yet, so MS should be hurry up.
I have HD7 too but I'm no comment it's good or not to buy.
Because bought before.. played before.
Thank you all for you posts.
Have to admit that I did not do my homework before buying a HD7.
Having said this, it is not a real excuse just to say WP7 is different to 6.5 and below. It is like you like ice-cream and try to buy one but are presented with yoghurt in the shop and the shop owner says you needed to do a research before asking for ice-cream!
Having said all this, I got an e-mail from HTC that they have forwarded my mail about these point to Microsoft.
It is all up MS what they will decide to do.
Do you think Microsoft decides to take a user point of view into consideration or just like others thinks their new OP is good and will do anything. I guess some of these points will take huge changes to the OS and their marketing plans.
And I should not complain because I had to do more research in advance .

Again, you are comparing ice cream to yogurt. Two totally different things. It is a very valid excuse. If you like ice cream, then you probably shouldn't have bought yogurt, or at least, done some research on yogurt before you bought it so that you knew what you were getting. You can complain all you like, but yogurt isn't going to change into ice cream because you want it to. They may share similarities, but they are not and will never be the same.
Same goes for Windows Mobile/Windows Phone. Windows Mobile 6.5 and Windows Phone 7 are two different platforms going in the two different directions. Microsoft recognized that one path wasn't going anywhere, so it took a look around and went in a different direction. So Windows Phone 7 may share some similarities to Windows Mobile, but they aren't and probably will never be the same product ever.
Both platforms cater to two different audiences, and if you like Windows Mobile 6.5, that's fine. Stick with it. You just have to realize that it is unfortunately a dead platform and you won't see any further updates. Windows Phone 7 is different and takes new and unique steps to a more cohesive and connected platform, and if you don't like it, the simple solution would be to not buy it.
If you are hoping that Windows Phone will become like Windows Mobile, then you should probably give up hope, as Microsoft has made it clear that this platform is something totally different.
The ice cream owner who sold you yogurt didn't tell you he was giving you yogurt.
Microsoft however, made it clear they are now selling cakes instead of ice creams or yogurt.
If you're still looking for ice cream and yogurt, you went to the wrong shop

Cake?!
Well, I think it also was not clear when I bought my HD7 and MS did not make it clear that no other software but only new ones from market place will work on WP7.
Anyways I own a HD7 and am happy with lots of its features. In some features it rocks compare to Iphone or Android phones.
But are you telling me nothing I say makes sense?
So where is the promised January/mid-February NC 2.2 update from B&N??? Here's what I found recently:
"B&N plans to update the OS sometime in 2011. Regarding applications, we are committed to the NOOKdeveloper program and on track to add apps to our store in early 2011, but do not have plans enable Android Marketplace at this time."
It was never promised. Just rumoured. And then pretty much debunked:
http://nookappreview.com/2010/12/31/nook-apps-might-arrive-in-march-2011-developer-mode-in-jan-2011/
Still sounds promising seeing how i'ts March already. But it looks like it's more of a refined update as opposed to a general android OS update. The inclusion of flash would be nice. And if they are in charge of making flash available then maybe we'll get a decent working version of one a little easier.
The current build just feels sluggish. Especially the browser. Hopefully they can rectify that in whatever updates they have brewing.
In general I think BN just needs to get the app store out but maybe they are waiting on actual developers for this? At the very least...Facebook, Twitter, instant messaging, e-mail, Youtube, etc. would be nice. Support for more types of video codecs as well as allowing side loaded content to be added to the home screen would help make those features actually useful. I think they really are a few steps away from the stock, unrooted OS being decent enough where some of us less adventurous people will be dissuaded from going through the trouble of rooting.
Web browsing is a lot worse than on my iPhone 4 at the moment. The video quality on m.youtube is a horrendous pixelated mess. No difference at all between HQ and Normal.
To watch YouTube in HD, dig around for and install "signed_YouTube.apk". I believe this is the gingerbread version and plays YouTube vids in HD on the nook properly

I could see them waiting for more apps... its also possible their riding the hype and waiting for it to die down before releasing it.
However as I + others have said... theres NO REASON for B&N to update the nook. At least from a android firmware standpoint

According to a B&N employee, there will be an update to stock NC to Android 2.2 based firmware which will also support Flash, at the end of March.
Remember that this is third-hand, may be incorrect, and could be delayed even if it is correct.
I really wish there was going to 2.2 update.

I heard the same thing from an employee except it was 2-3 weeks ago and the date they gave was the end of February.

That may not be true, it depends upon how "Enhanced NookBooks" will work, which according to their website are coming soon. Flash maybe?
I had not seen this thread and I just got back from BN. I showed the guy my rooted Nookand he was impressed.. although I dont think he liked my kindle app.
He did volunteer that there would be an update by the end of March. What was included .. he did not say.

We can hope and dream can we not?
If a B&N store employee is telling you when the update is coming they are talking out of their anus.
No company is going to give out any information like that to bottom level sales employees. When B&N settles on an official date they will at best give the employees a couple days warning.
Honestly we will probably know when its coming before the employees do.

I've seen some stores have specific Nook "experts" that just hang around the Nook kiosks all day long and they probably have more general knowledge about the product than say the cashiers or regular employees. I wouldn't say its impossible that an employee knows info that we don't. Or they could read forums like this too.

Well you have to remember this wasnt the first time we went down this road. I remember when every employee was saying the app store + 2.2 would come out in January... then it was Feb, now its end of march... I wouldnt be shocked if these people are just relying on luck, and assuming things.
Not everyone, employees included know that theres android on the low... its always possible that they just think were on Nook firmware 2.1, and just say a date for the next update as its possible.
Logically speaking, if the nook was getting an upgrade... and the employees actually knew, and were telling it why wouldnt it get announced? With something like 2.2, its not like B&N is going to just release it without trying to nab sales.

I really respect delays in software releases.
This means that the managers are allowing the programmers to fix the bugs, instead of heeding the CEOs' usual call to "release it now regardless of whether it works right".
I am not referring to any particular company or CEO, but there is always pressure from above to release software before it is stable.
PS How do BN employees know ? Someone has to be doing Beta testing before a release to millions of customers. It is typical for large companies to have employees do Beta testing. It would not be unusual for those Beta testers to get an email with link to "release candidate for public release at the end of the month, so please confirm that you do not have problems with this release". Then when problems are confirmed, release slips to the following month, rinse and repeat.
Hello,
just wanted to share that just the other day, must have been thursday, A Nook rep at my local B&N store and i got to talking and he said that he had been told that 2.2 will be out this month! and that he was told that in January. Looks like we might be getting luck! Just gotta be patient. Always fun... lol

Right.
Although it would be nice to have a B&N rep. mulling around the forum. After all, I think communites like this are best at making products better for everyone else. And forum reading typically are strongly tied and loyal to their device. They also are more likely to spread good PR if they are happy with their product and the company attached to it. Read; OG Droid compared to the Droid X fiasco. Ever wonder why they finally allowed an unlockable bootloader on the Xoom? Something caused them to backtrack a bit...even if we only represent a small percent of the consumer base.
