[Q] Show the screen @ computer - Galaxy S I9000 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hello, I have to make an presentation showing an app I have developed. I have a SGS i9000 and I'd need to show the phone's screen at my computer's screen.
I'm looking for a program or way to do it, if posible avoiding tv output and other wired methods. Thanks in advance

There are a ton of apps that can do this, just search on los googles.
And this is definitely not even remotely related to Development, why on earth did you post here?

G1 Webcam

I was wondering if anyone had any ideas how to turn the g1 camera into an actual webcam connected to your computer with a USB. I've tried the method of pulling images and streamlining them through ADB, framerate is terrible and just not fast enough. If anyone has any better methods or way of doing this lets get cracking and release something asap

He wants to connect it to his computer.
qik works great for that unless you want to stream to a site other than qik.
to clarify yes i get that he wants to use it as a regular webcam for something like stickam...etc, nothing out there to do that yet though.
exactly. I want to actually use it like you would a normal webcam. I dont want to stream to a server. I would rather have it stream to my computer and have applications handle displaying it. We would probably need to create a custom driver for that, but that shouldn't be too difficult if we can first find out a way to send more frames per second then I have a friend that can handle the driver issue.

If that's true (and from the looks of it I guess it is) then that would be AWESOME!! ..do share with others how you managed to do that!!
Using screencast does work, but it still has an issue with low frames.
For this you need either Droidexplorer (which is what i am using) or Screencast, and the SDK setup.
Open screencast, turn phone camera on, screencast has a record feature.
More info on making this happen would be greatly appreciated!
i didnt use recording, it was streamed live, i cant remember on how to do it, i will have a look at my computer when i get home! and yes the frame rate is pretty poor but when i use the webcam i hardly move so its alright
ok so how to do it first of all let me tell you that you have to have the phone showing on the desktop because screencast shows your phone on your desktop and screencamera shows your desktop as a webcam so if you cant see it, screencamera cant see it!
1. you need to get screencast showing what is on your phone;
get it via:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=558108
or http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=557717
2. download and install screencamera:
http://www.pcwinsoft.com/ScreenCamera/download.asp
3. open screencast and put your phone on the camera application (you can still use the phone don't have to struggle doing it on the computer)
4. open screencamera
go into configuration and change the frame rate to what is appropriate to screencast, i think at the moment its 4fps
go to video output an change the frame size to what you like, i have it at 320 x 420 and have the phone set horizonally on screencast (by right clicking on screencast)
(make sure you have screencast where you want it as you will have to do this step again if you want to move it and make sure you can see it) click on "select region of desktop to capture" and highlight the screen of the camera
done, skype will now see it as that selected area of the desktop as a webcam i cannot confirm if any other application will see it but they should
I believe i was able to capture a livecast event with Video Lan player
Livecast is available for android I believe but i squite the same as quick.
Only livecast made wmv-files.
just tried qik, didn't like it because it didnt have a portrait mode.
wish somebody would make an app for this it would be so much more easyer
i dont like qik cause u have to go to there web site i want to be able to connect my g1 though aim or yahoo web cam

Dev Request: HDMI Mirroring?

Since im not a dev, i dont have the chops to figure this out.... but I would definately donate to a dev that can figure this out.
Is hdmi mirroring possible?
in build.prop theres this:
ro.hdmi.mirror.enable=false
ro.hdmi.default.app=
hw.overlay.path.config=

changing the first line to true WORKS only at boot, it correctly mirrors what you see on your phone. but once the phone is done booting, it kicks the TV to a black screen and the phone asks you if you want to open up the entertainment app or do nothing.
So mirroring is there, its just blocked by something on boot.

Sorry, I just ordered my phone, so I don't have one to tinker with yet. But maybe you can use titanium backup to freeze the app. If it doesn't show up as an app, maybe you can use autostarts to try and stop it. Finally, the last idea I have is to poke around in the init scripts to find the offending app. All of this is just speculation, but since you can see mirroring at bootup I think it is pretty clear that the webtop app is causing the issue.
I can confirm this. It boots to the homescreens. I got to unlock and touch a widget. Then it disappeared, the box came up asking if I wanted to connect to the entertainment center.
I back through my apps with titanium backup and froze anything regarding hdmi. The entertainment box went away, but it still takes away hdmi mirroring.
I didn't have any results with autostarts either, but I don't really know what to look for.
Sent from my MB860 using XDA Premium App
Tried to freeze up some services with Titanium backup - no luck so far.
There is something happening during the boot process which disables the mirroring.
Tried this also. Same results.
I went into Titanium Backup and deleted the Entertainment Center application as well as a couple of other ones I thought might be the reason. But, it still switched off to a black screen after a few seconds.
Any updates on this?
I still don't have a phone yet, but I had another realization.
When you plug in the HDMI cord, the phone pops up with options regarding what to display. i.e. the webtop or the entertainment center. Ergo, something lower in the OS than the webtop is blocking the HDMI port.
However, my thought is, rather than block this, we need to figure out how to make another entry in this list. So the options read, webtop, entertainment, and mirroring.
Unfortunately this may require waiting for Moto to release the code. It will also require someone with coding skill. I for one have never worked with Android and have very poor experience with even Java.
This subject is being killed all over the forums in different threads. The hdmi is being toggled for different apps like webtop or media. The config is the other part that supports the hdmi app service options. We have dumped the apk into smalli and have confirmed this.
There is devs working on webtop without dock and it maybe beneficial to combine these efforts to support display mirroring... just a thought

There is no need for dedicated mirroring now that you can launch the webtop without the dock.
You can run mobile view full screen once you launch webtop.... and alas, you have HDMI mirroring.

Well thats not fully correct, if you launch a app that has on screen buttons like games or emulators..you cant use or play them using the phone as these dont show up on phone.
so we could still do with mirroring for atrix

As of now the best solution is to do what leadguy68 suggested. I don't think any dev is working on it. It is just not worth it since what you want to accomplish can be done with just one additional mouse click after enabling webtop.
If I am wrong and any devs are still working on this, please ignore this thread, otherwise it is prudent to close this thread. Or maybe OP can state this in the first post so that people stop asking about HDMI mirroring.

I think it's dumb to end a thread because YOU aren't interested in something. I think it'd be a damn good idea to get mirroring running. The webtop mirror is laggy, and I want to play a real game of angry birds on a 100" screen, lol. Keep the work up, if anyone is working on it. I'll keep trying on my end to get it working.

exactly. mirroring is still highly sought after. Like another said earlier, for people who want to run emulators, you're sol with the webtop, theres no onscreen buttons AND you cant use your wii-mote while in webtop mode.
Agreed. Still very much needed for games. Web top game emulation is laggy.

2 PDFs open at the same time and bluetooth?

Hey all!
I've had the tab for a while and its pretty much been with me for UNI alot more than my laptop.
I don't do much word processing, but alot of PDF reading. Sometimes I'd need to have 2-3 PDFs open (e.g one is the assignment question and one is reference). It's a real hassle having to open and close a PDF and also scroll back to were I was before.
I've read the Notion ink has "panels" where things are open at the same time... but that is a whole ROM thing. Any ideas?
Also, having seen the HP touchpad and pre phones, that "tap to share" feature is cool. I know its more a hardware thing, but I also know there is an app called bump which sends pics via bumping the devices.
Thing is, you need to be online for that. I'd usually tether my phone so that my tab has internet, but is there an equivalent using bluetooth? Bump to send anything would be nice!
Thanks in advance!

No problem.
Don't think there's an app on android as of yet on reading 2 PDF's at the same time, think there's a one in the Appstore (kno) but obviously that won't work on the Galaxy tab or any other android devices.

I don't know if it will directly help or not, but there are apps that let you tether through Bluetooth. If I am not mistaken, PDAnet is one such app.

[APP][ROOT]ScreenToggle - turn off your screen (e.g. while plugged into hdmi)

Wanna turn your Screen off while watching videos over HDMI?
Or need a watchful Xoom but don´t want the screen to be on all the time?
Here´s the app you need!
Description:
The App adds the posibility to turn off the lcd backlight to your xoom. Its nothing less then a shutdown-button for your display backlight.
The app toggles your lcd backlight to zero and back, said doesn´t just overlay your screen with black, like the other apps inside the market.
it turns off your screen light completly , but the screen stays responsible and the devices stays awake.
Use it instead of locking your xoom, if you need your device itself to be active but dont need the display to be on, e.g. while you´re watching videos over hdmi, use your xoom as a vnc server or something like that.

Use this awesome little App with some "starter app" of your choice.
For example, use the Shaking Shortcurt App, register ToggleScreenXoom.apk and you could turn your screen on/off with just shaking your device.
(tested on xoom [email protected] but should work on every rooted xoom)
Thanks to [email protected] for his work on this.

"Basically" the same as the old method, right. Just in one app without the need of configuration and with more flexibility to be launched by other apps.
Maybe you´ll try "Shaking Shortcurt". A nice app that lets you launch two other apps by shaking your xoom.
Yeah, think I'll try that instead of SwipePad. Since Swipepad rely's on the borders of the screen and Cornerstone alters the borders, I'm guessing that's the issue. Maybe the Shaking app won't have that issue.
Thanks again for the clarification, and the thread. I really can't believe this thread hasn't blown up!

First post is edited to get it straight.
Does this only work on the xoom? I have an acer 510 and I want something like this. It sounds like this gets launched in conjunction with whatever app you launch. I'd rather that while on hdmi the tablet display is off entirely. Or maybe this does that as well.
So is this specific to the xoom?

According to the readme provided in the zip file this application seems to be specific for the Xoom, or at least a few tegra 2 tablets.
That's disappointing. Why would manufacturer's assume that a user wants the display to stay on while using hdmi?! How about a sane default like leave hdmi output on and turn off tablet display after the normal inactivity duration. But allow a keyboard/mouse not to be recognized as tablet activity.
Could this be modified to work with more devices? Or say newer tegra 3 devices if it's chipset specific. But really, ics should have some application layer to control things like hdmi res, screen active etc...
Nice! Works in AOKP
First of all, this is a great app, and it works well in AOKP (build 37).
To trigger the app, I set my "home" softkey on my xoom (in Rom Control) to trigger the app when the key is held. Even though you can't see the softkeys when on hdmi, after a while, its exact location is easy to recall.
It is really convenient. Thanks for the much needed addition to a great device.

Stream Audio From Tab and Show HTML Page [Solved]

Hi everyone!
I'm working with a friend to make a app that we're kind of keeping low-key for the time being, but I had to ask about one of the concepts we were thinking about doing. Okay, so would it be possible to stream the audio from a tab to the Chromecast while showing a HTML page that we are making for the visual? The way we envision this working is through an app that communicates with the webpage and the Chromecast. Theoretically, is this possible?
Thanks in advance, everyone

Easy answer, Yes.
The thing you are looking for is a "Custom Reciever" application. If you google it you will find both code examples and a lot more information. (Can't link, new member)
