Looks awesome enough, but runs like crap and then crashed the tablet. VEGAN-TAB 5.1.1 Beta. Anyone else?
First off your post makes little sense. Second Vegan 5.1.1 is one of the best running Roms here. Chances are you forgot to do a step here or there.

I have installed the game, using Vegan 7 GE and have the same result, graphics missing and eventual crash.

That's too bad. The game looks like it had so much promise. Because I have Froyo, I have the shaders and HW acceleration, but the game studders and just locks up the tablet.
I played a couple levels without issue on VEGAN-TAB 5.1.1.

Cool thanks. I am running Pershoot's latest. I wonder if that has an effect.
I have tested it on Vegan Ginger and I have had the same problems with missing animation and what not. I have noticed though that if you restart the tablet the first time you play it everything is fine. But if you close the game and go back into it the problems come back.
I also installed this game on my Evo and it runs beautifully with no error.
For those running Ginger Edition or CM7, you will have missing textures due to a lack of hardware acceleration. As for Froyo, the studdering stopped when I flashed Pershoot's latest 5/24 kernel.
Fyi, A lot of issues can come from playing the first time without a restart. Many high end games play like s- if a reboot is not done especially if they require additional download content. Shadow era, gun bros, vendetta all play like crap until after a reboot.

it's a possibility, other types of phones running CM6 have had issues finding it in the market or getting it to install. It worked perfect for me this morning when I got my e-mail from Rovio, however both my wife and I still don't have it show up in the market and we are both running CM6 based ROMs.
edit : just a side note, maybe it's just my phone but running the Dopio v3.5 844MHz OC kernel I had to "dumb down" processor to 600 MHz or keep my play time to under 30 min any longer than that would cause the battery to get hot enough to lock up the phone where I had to pull battery and reboot

Hey guys,
Just to let you know there is an application out there now to take care of force recalibration of the screen.
When I first got my nook I know it didn't register touch properly, so I ran some commands and it started working fine.
Decided I should make my first app something that helps people, so here you go. Checkout "nook screen recalibrate". It's a simple minimalistic application the re calibrates then reboots
Updated Version 2.0

* Button to start process
* Lowered MinSDK to support froyo (untested)
Here's the market link.
Helpful since you don't have enough posts to post links yet. But thanks for this app!
Ironically when I go to the link and try to push it to my NC, it says it's not compatible. :X
Fine print mentions that is only works with GB (android 2.3 and above).

The nookie froyo is based on 2.2.
If your software doesn't require 2.3 functionality, can you lower the required API to '7', which is the stock Android API level (2.2/Froyo)?

Ok maybe this is in my head, but if I run this every couple nightlies, touch feels slightly better and responsive.
Maybe it's the nightly, maybe the way it interacts, maybe the screen de sensitises over time, maybe it's all in my head

Too early to tell. Honestly, though, I was fine with battery life under 6.2.
I've had good luck with it so far and it seems pretty snappy as it's running. I do seem to be having an issue of the Nook randomly restarting and I can't tell what's causing it. Anyone else seeing this?

It does not support anything that CM 7.0.3 already support. Phiremod is NOTHING but a CM7 theme; nothing at all special. People will be much better off using the newer nightlies (which are using the newer .32 kernel).
The latest nightlies support iptables? I thought only Dalingren's OC kernel had iptables support (that I could find). Phiremod 6.3 says it has an OC kernel, but doesn't say which one. Does the nightly have an OC kernel, or one with iptables support?

I just downloaded phiremod 6.3 and it is working very well. This my my nooks first rooted rom.

Phiremod is sort of the autonooter of CM7s. It's a finished, easily flashable distribution that includes some nice tweaks and extras all in one package and you can count on pretty much everything working. It's for guys who don't want to bother with going from nightly to nightly.
At least that's how I look at it.

Look, if you area already to the point that you are comfortable flashing a rom to your nook, the hardest part is behind you. I would say if you have some issue, but have problems downloading some apps from the market, and applying a theme (lets face it, there aren't any actual tweaks in Phiremod - it is all just UI fluff and pre-installed apps), you should see some help.

"Premature Dead Battery" where some ppl are having battery charging issues, both on CM7 and at least me using Phiremod build. I had done the battery calibration process , and I was trying to drain down the battery so I could do a full uninterrupted recharge, but at 18% left it just...died. Thinking that it just ran out.
I connected to the wall charger, but it just kept doing bootloops, getting as far as the Google logo, then restarting. I was finally able to charge mine back up yesterday, but not sure what happened or what caused it. There is a thread about the battery issues here on xda, seems like the most recent nightlies have solved the issue
Hi all,
I've had my tab 8.9 WiFi from the beginning and have never really been a big fan because of the lag it produces. It has been laying on a shelf for a long time, but this week I decided to look on xda and maybe make this thing workable again.
I have tried CM 10.2 / 11 and the nameless ROM, but this thing keeps lagging!
Opening chrome takes 2 to 3 seconds, scrolling is not smooth everywhere. It's just not funny anymore. Even clash of clans or boom beach is lagging so much that it is unplayable.
When installing the ROM I wiped dalvik, cash and do several factory resets. Even changed dalvik to art, but also no luck. Locked the CPU at 1400 MHz, still not working.
How do I get an smooth tab 8.9????

Tough luck. Lagging was the #1 reason I sold my 7310. Watching devices as old as the Galaxy S1 managing HD videos without hiccups, and then watching the tablet struggle even with YouTube HD videos was a revelation that I made an error trusting a nVidia SoC...again. It was a real shame as I loved the screen size. I hope you find either a solution and/or eventually a better device.

I haven't been using the tab that much and the time I did the 'lag' was noticable, but hell... i bought it for a real good price at the time. So I said to myself, you can't have it all
After laying on a shelf for quite some time I wanted to start using it again, now kitkat is out for this device. But being used to a Nexus 5 I started to really get annoyed by the lag. Tried several roms, clearing cash and formatting things, ramped up the cpu to 1400 and now it is bearable but still noticable some times. A game like Boom Beach is still very slow, while the requirements of the game are the same as the tab.
After reading the faq of lagfix I ran a benchmark. These are the results, and I have a feeling I found the problem:
Is it me or is this just way too slow?

It is very hard to say. Have you checked (searched) the thread for brick reports?
Hmm...have a nandroid backup ready, then flash this and test.
What is that? This (quote grabbed from here):
*snip*...a completely different, lightweight and efficient random number generator called Havege . This sharply reduces cpu consumption and corresponding battery life loss compared to Seeder. It also does a better job at keeping entropy levels high hence your device is more responsive. It doesn't run in a CPU intensive loop either.

Not one brick report, but BrickBug says the chip inside is KNOWN to brick. There is just one mention (see my previous post) of the p7310/p7300.
Edit:

More like their old devices. At least my GS3 has gone strong, but their latest products...eh. Sorry I can't be of any further help.
I too experience bad lag with jelly bean custom roms. Honestly I gave up and went back to ICS. I am using the "ultra" stock based ROM and it performs pretty well.

You won't brick the tab using lagfix. Trim is not supported on our device. Our tab is affected by the brickbug but it's already patched by Samsung with the rollout of official ICS packages. I have done several factory resets using the stock recovery.
IMHO, all post-ICS roms are laggy and buggy. I never had problems with stock ICS. Just put the right combination of tweaks in there and it will be buttery smooth even w/out overclocking.

I totally agree. Our tab does not support trim and brickbug has been fixed. Currently using stock ics ultra by OmarEinea and works perfectly. I disabled animations and use nova launcher with all animations set to lightning fast and I have no problems. Few glitches here and there but its expected.

Quite sad things did not get better after I sold the device. I still remember that ICS ROM by motley and Team Galaxian Soup, it was the best running ROM for my P7310 back when. Also it's quite sad the NAND in these doesn't support trimming as that would have given it a serious boost in smoothness.

Yes, that's the bad part about it, tab has no TRIM support. In any case, I usually get around this limitation by using the stock recovery's format function (factory reset) as it wipes the device clean.

Sorry for bursting your bubble but that's not a replacement for trimming, we're talking about flash memory "defragmentation" and that doesn't go away with any formatting. Otherwise my other devices would still be running like new and the LagFix app would've done nothing to speed things up in the I/O department.
A few days ago I upgraded from the Note 3 to the Nexus 6 (LRX22C - Tmobile). I have a handful of games that I love to play like Madden NFL and Brave Frontier. These games worked flawlessly on my less powerful Note 3. For whatever reason, these games lag like hell on the N6 and its driving me nuts.
I have already rooted and disabled the forced encryption and it made no difference so that isnt the cause. I have a feeling there is something going on with either Adreno or ART compatibility.
Is there any way I can fix this performance lag in games? I'm sort of ticked I just spent all this money and have a less powerful device. It feels like I was falsely advertised or something...
:crying:
*** Update ***
I have taken the liberty to put on a custom ROM to test with. With any luck the games will start working as expected. I'll post back my results everyone. Wish me luck!

On the Euphoria ROM its a little bit better, It still lags but not as much, so its a step in the right direction. I'll test some other stuff and let you guys know. FYI this was tested on Madden.

Yes I figured as much but by 20 pages into the post I had not seen negative results, so I figured I would try it on my device which is having the trouble to see if the ROM helped. I still havent found a solution though.

I've went about it ROM side and RIPng went about it kernel side and we found that the problem is the apps themselves. Doing too much GPU on the main thread, all kinds of issues in the game code calling the wrong APIs
Shoot

Well thanks for the heads up man. That sucks but it is what it is right? I bet that's whats killing the battery so fast too then.

I know testing magic 2015, it hung in the background still using up CPU like I was still playing it so I wouldn't be surprised that the other games would be chewing up battery too. During the preview, apps that weren't updated for it, lagged and chewed up the battery.
I figured we would run into the same issues with the nexus 6 before I even bought it because the other devices still have some backwards compatibility with kit Kat even though they are on lollipop now. A new device is started clean and tailored specifically for the firmware they are made for
