[Q] SGS Orange UK - mic problems. Help needed... - Galaxy S I9000 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

My wife has a SGS on Orange UK running 2.2.1. For the last few months, the microphone doesn't work all the time during calls. Installing 2.2.1 didn't cure things as the issue has returned. I've done a factory reset as I hoped this might cure the issue but it didn't. Doing a bit of research has led to me here and I've successfully (I think) flashed the kernel to speedmod K13E using Odin as this looked like it might fix microphone issues. Unfortunately it hasn't worked. There is still no outgoing audio during telephone conversation unless shouting like Dom Joly and none on video unless speaking directly into the mic and even then it is incredibly faint. Does anyone have any more suggestions?
Thanks.

People cannot hear me........

During calls there comes a moment that people are complaining that they cannot hear me. When i move the jog dial upwards (hence increasing volume) they say that they can hear me ok. I have not experienced this using the bluetooth headset. Maybe a hardware problem??
By the way i used 5 different radios and upgraded also to 6.1.
Anyone experiencing this?
Any solution?
Thanks

did you send it for this reason?
well my mic was buggered
people would say one min they can here me next they cant
and it would like fade in and out
orange where usless and said they wanted to test it but in the end i went back told them i wanted a new one
and since then i have had no problems
If you can't hear me it means I'm in Parentheses. ))
i guess i have to sent it back then, s*** i have to to revert to original rom now.
anyone else with the problem?
ok you say it is a hardware problem. I did the following: i was speaking continuously for 2 minutes on the mic and i was recording it. When i tried to listen to the recording everything seemed to work excellent. So i guess is not a mic - hardware problem. S*** i am going crazy........
Did you flash with the appropriate radio?
i've had the same problem with my speaker phone; i can hear the calling party; but they cannot hear me; it does not happen all the time; but more often than not (more than 50% of the time).
A person in another forum suggested turning the volume down to half when using the speaker phone so it will work (though it is difficult to hear the calling party when volume is that low).
I know this is unrelated to blue tooth issue; but there seems to be some sort of audio glitch that is similar in both the blue tooth and speaker phone so one has to wonder if there is some type of related root cause to both problems???

when i use bt the problem disappears so i think it has to do with the functionality of the mic?
Well finally after 1.5 month i got back my phone from ACE HELLAS. The problem remains the same although i was told that the microphone and earphone were replaced by new ones. If they are telling the truth and they did change it it means that we are facing a kind of software problem.........
I had the problem, too. I tried dozends of radio roms but problems continued.
After 5 months of trying I repace my VPA Compact V (aka v1615) and now the problem has dissapeared...
So it seems to me that it is a hardware problem of one production run.

[Q] Mic Button No Longer Working - Help !!

Having a weird issue with my Samsung Captivate and I'm seeking the advice of those smarter than myslef . Lately my mic has stopped responding while listening to music. The strange thing is that it still pauses the music but it doesn't pick up any calls. I've tried several music players (even the default) with the same result. I didn't always have this problem. I'm currently running cog 2.2 beta 9, I did a master clear and flashed back to stock but that didn't fix the issue either.
Is it possible my captivate is defective or is something that can be fixed via software. I've also tried multiple headsets.
What was your final outcome? I had a similar problem (no mic OR pause). Tried many things and am now resorting to replacing the unit (warranty). My post: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1112729&highlight=mic

[Q] Sound crackling/popping using certain roms/kernels?

It seems that when i play music/video via either the headphones or loudspeaker I experience crackling and/or popping usually a few seconds into the song or video.
The weird thing is that only certain kernels do this. For example, my stock rogers ROM does not do this, nor does the stock AT&T ROM. But the minute a load up a cutoms kernel(usually a Voodoo lagfix based one) then this issue begins.
The culprits are the firebird and the glitterballs kernels. When I use the speedmod and suckerpunch kernels, my sound is perfect crystal clear.
Also I have done some searching everywhere and found other people have had this issue and by disabling WIFI this goes away... :S I can confirm this as it does indeed solve the sound crackling issue. And yes I have tried matching different modems and kernels to make sure that wasnt the problem and still nothing.
So please if maybe any of the devs or elite members could help me figure out what the issue is. Or even if you experience this too or just havent really noticed?
Thank you and I will buy a beer for anyone who can help me solve this. Yes, thats how annoyed I am at this issue.....
anyone? possibly canadian captivate owners experiencing this?
Experienced the same thing too. Even tried different music players. Turning off wifi stops the crackling/popping.
I'd really like to find out why only the voodoo lagfix kernels do this. Perhaps a way the ext4 code is implemented. But its strange because cog 3.04 doesn't and it uses voodoo lagfix.

[Q] SGS I9000 front speaker not working

The speaker (the front one used during calls) stopped working for a while on my phone.
It happened approx a day after I upgraded to Darky's 9.4 ROM (with JQ1 modem) but I don't think it's related.
I tried rebooting the phone but it didn't fix it.
I tried skype calls as well, the symptoms were the same as with regular calls:
- the other party could hear me
- I couldn't hear them
- when I set the phone to speaker mode I could hear them
I thought I'm gonna have to return the phone but then it looks like the issue got fixed by itself.
Any ideas?
Any ideas?
Its a Darky rom thats the answer and its also where you should look for the answer .

For those who might find this thread:
This looks to be an issue with the voodoo sound driver v5 . The issue is fixed in v7.

[Q] Help! Microphone has become very quiet?

When making calls I have to literally shout down the mic for people to even hear me, the voice recorder is the same. Using a headset works perfectly fine. I am assuming its a hardware fault? Although I did upgrade to 4.2 this week and it only started happening after. What are my options realistically? Should I demand a replacement? Get it sent for repairs? I've had it for about 3 months and I'm with T-mobile in the UK.
have you tried to make a simple factory reset? this could help after the update.
it could be a software-issue, because it appeared after the update on 4.2.. if the reset doesn't help, you could flash back to a 4.1 based rom and see if it gets louder again..
