Okay I switched from an iPhone to Android because I love alot about the android platform, but something I REALLY loved is the way that I saw black notification bars. I got an optimus v and realize the notification bar is white...I have it rooted and metamorph installed, what themes can I use without screwing up my phone? Also, I can't make an nandroid backup because my phone is not listed in ROM Manager.
Do you have a custom recovery installed? And for the black status bar install AOSP CM7 rom or use uto kitchen to get black status bar on Froyo.
Rom Manager doesn't support the Optimus V. So I wouldn't bother using it it could put your phone into a boot loop.

Thanks for responding. I made a custom status bar with uot kitchen but have a question, is it possible to install it with a rooted, stock rom? And How do you make a backup of the optimus v without clockwork?
You might find more specific (to your phone) info here.

Uto has to be flashed in recovery use xionia recovery . Or use rom tools to push it to the phone. To make a backup install xionia and choose backup and restore then choose backup. If your still on stock recovery I'd suggest downloading and installing a custom recovery. Clockwork only works with cm7 when flashing custom roms. Xionia works with all custom roms. But if you want to stay with the stock rom and make a nandroid backup go with xionia using rom tools. Hope that helped.

Thanks, do you recommend me flashing a certain rom? If so, which one? Does it have everything working such as receiving MMS?
I'm using AOSP CM7 2.3.4 gingerbread port the only thing not working on it is Bluetooth and an alarm clock glitch. The alarm clock glitch is fixable. I don't use either so it doesn't bother me. If you want a good 2.2 froyo rom that has everything working I'd suggest either Harmonia or Bumblebee over at android central. I like AOSP because of the theme Chooser for cm7. There are plenty of mdpi themes for cm7 for our phones. If you decide to use aosp go to romrepo.com download the flash image which is clockwork. Download the latest release of aosp and download the Google app zip. All 3 roms are stable and fast and have the ability to move apps to SD overclocking and more. Just depends on what you want and use honestly. If you have any problems feel free to pm me ill try to help as much as I can.

I have a rooted stock Froyo on my N1.
1. Is there a tool or zip file (that I can flash using Rom Manager) that would allow App2SD for all the apps on Froyo?
2. Is there a way to get H or 3G instead of always 3G, while being rooted on stock?
Thanx in advance
1. Install Mod Install Location from the market.
2. Not that I'm aware, but I could be wrong.
Thanx for the quick reply
Anyone for question 2?
No, system framework needs to be modified for that - which means the ROM has to be deodexed and framework needs to be recompiled - which means it's turning into a custom ROM.
Right but that's still "stock" to most people. Check the ROM forum, there is stock froyo ROM that is also deodexed which means it can be themed with the H icon. It's definitely possible.
Thanx for the replies. Will check it out.
If you install CM6 RC-3 you can set it to force install to SD and it already has the "H" symbol
^ yea, I'm thinking to go that route since CM has those 2 features plus minimal music controls on lockscreen as well as battery %. All are features I'm interested in, so rather than trying to patch the stock to my liking, I might just get CM and remove ADW and get LP instead
I am new to rooting and have Cyanogen RC3 on my N1 and love it! All the customizations are endless. Especially all the Apps2SD.

So I finally decided to root my N1 after owning it for about 7 months now, I'm sick of using the stock theme, I want to black out my status bar and have a cool theme on it, so any suggestions?
Complete newb.
Should I flash a new rom? Any fast roms that look almost stock but with more of a galaxy vibrant look to it?
All newbies should start with Cyanogen. I did it and it was worth it. Try Cyanogen Mod v6.0.0. If you are feeling adventurous then try one of the MIUI based roms... its different.
Eh I wouldn't say that since cyanogen doesn't come with gApps. Start with something like leofroyo or something with a blackbar mod and move from there. Once you've flashed a few times and are confident in your abilities, move on to cyanogen and learn2play.
Why not start out with Geo's ROM ? Almost stock but has a black bar add on
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=714184
Can anyone provide instructions on how to flash a new rom? Should I just download the rom file, rename it to update.zip and do it from recovery? How would I go about flashing Geo's ROM?
Do I also need to unlock bootloader?
You don't need to unlock the bootloader (I haven't), but you will need a custom recovery.

Hi I'm a new Android phone user.
I have used SuperOneClick to root my 2X, so that I can use Droidwall. Everything looks fine.
But I see people suggesting it's better to always backup the original ROM, but I don't know how to do it. I have downloaded ROM Manager from the market, but it seems not supporting 2X yet, is it? Any alternatives?
Get custom recovery ClockWork Mod, which there are links to under 2x Development. With that you can take a full NANDroid backup which basically backs up everything.
Thank you!
But I am still not clear. Do you mean using ROM Manager? I tried "All ClockworkMod Recoveries" and it shows only "Advent Vega" and "Elocity A7" to choose.
If you don't mind, please tell me step by step..

Hello, I've followed that thread and installed CWM Recovery, that's great!
But I want to ask some more questions. I chose the EXT3 batch file. Could I actually choose EXT4? Will my filesystem be automatically converted to EXT4?
And, is there a newer version than the 3.0.1.4-beta3? I see another thread about the battery status bar mod which mentioned about R3 and R4 versions..
Thanks
The R3/R4 for the battery mod IS NOT related to CWM. Its related to the Rom developed by Paul for the LG 2x which is presently on R4.

I would check out this forum, there's a lot of great info:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/forumdisplay.php?f=1002
EDIT:
Sorry, couldn't help myself. It can be confusing first time around. You need to install clockworkmod to do nandroid backups. A full backup will include all the applications.
Alternatively you can download titanium backup which will backup all your apps. That does require root, though.
Read the {Start here} thread to learn how to install cwm(clockworkmod) and how to root.

Nandroid backup is a FULL backup of your phone!
This means that It backups rom, sms, accounts, apps, widgets, and all the settings.
Titanium backup can backup all apps and settings "only".
They can be used together, and they are a must if you want to try new roms
I think this is the way to go:
http://android.modaco.com/content/l...rom-release-v10b-dated-1300166062-15-03-2011/
It won't get more "stock" then this i think

If u use the modaco fr17 rom. Im on the fearkill rom u can use the stock launcher and install all the lg apps. Its like a smoother amd more stable version of stock that u r running

im using the first link... perfect rom. only in the screenshots he is using a diffrent launcher.
if u install the normal version (NOT THE VANILLA VERSOIN) u will have the stock launcher and u can use it like the stock rom. it is faster and stable and more thats all.
one should also note, that a NANDROID backup also backups the ROM itself, so if you revert to stock and start the NANDROID restore, you'll get the ROM you had before "stockifying" back.
I'd recommend TI Backup for apps and MyBackup Root for SMS/Settings. If you sync your contacts and calendar with google, I advise you to exclude these items when backing up.

I think It's better to ask in the rom 3d
hello everyone. first post as you can see. i m not new to the android world, but i m not into modding, so after the buggy stock rom bugged to death, i installed a early CM7 for the SGM. it was maybe 6 months ago.
right now it pretty much ruined. the cache or some inner app folder started to build up, and i tried all kind of things to free up space, till 2 hours ago when i did something and now i cant install any new apps, and having only 13 MB left is not good. i want to start over, but this time i want to do it my way.
what is my way? well, tell me my taste sucks, but i think all of the GO EX apps are awesome, so i'd like to flash a new rom, if possible using just the CWM, that will have the GO: Launcher, SMS, Dialer, Contacts, Calander and Keyboard. the full monty. i dont want wallpaper manager, or google voice (doesnt work in israel), or "Car Home" (what ever that is :| ). for mediaplayer i use playerpro. i want it to have all of those as the basic package, and also opera mobile.
so, the questions (after all the demands lol) are:
1. is there a very basic, flashable from CWM, ROM, that can do the job i need?
2. if the answer for 1 is no, how hard is it to take a basic rom and mod it to suit my needs?
3. since i learned to live with my buggy CM7 and pretty much not using many apps, i can also just install some good rom (using CWM) and let that be. but is there one good rom out there? it seems that in the development forum its all about beta rom's witch S voice and ICS or something like that.
3.If u want a good and stable rom use MORe or Mebitek and kittenlinux's cm7 is very stable too
2.There are plenty of guy in the developement forum about how to make custom rom
1.Use stock
