unlocking without using power button? and auto backlight - LG Optimus 2x

hi, i was wondering if its possible to turn the screen on(after locking, to unlock) by pressing the volume buttons instead of just the power button? Its really annoying having the power button the only means of turning the screen on, my old renoir worked with my volume buttons(and anything else) same as my dads arena .
Also does anyone know how to change the auto backlight settings? The intervals are terrible, it doesnt drop high or low enough to save battery but the steps are so close you notice the backlight drop just by tilting it away from any light source lol (very sensitive and annoying without really helping battery life!).
Tried searching so I apologize if its already been mentioned but i havent found any mention or solution .

i saw an option of setting the volume button to turn/wake the phone up. i believe it's from the CM7 build..

Yep, turning phone on with volume buttons is definately available on CM7. But I don't think there's that option with any of the MRC roms.

I'm sure that tiny power button will wear out sooner rather than later...it would be good to have another way of waking up the screen.

Yes option is available in CM7, but not still got a few bugs

diamond power button issue

hi, i tried a search but i couldnt find much info about it so im going to mention it here
sometimes when i turn on my diamond with the power button it wouldnt turn on but the backlight lights up, screen is blank and none of the buttons respond until i suspend it again and power it up a few times before i can get a normal looking screen and regain functionality
im wondering what can be the issue or i have a dud device
im using dutty's latest rom
I have had this problem too but only after using tomtom... It seems to render the power button inoperative.
for me this happens any time with or without tomtom and what worst is that my sound dies completely
I did not have any problems with mine. Its probably the rom ur using mate =/

backlighting turns off too soon, and turns off sound.

Hello all,
When making a call the screen dims WAY too fast then turns of in 10 seconds. is there an option to leave it on all the time, till I decide to turn it off?
It's quite the pain in the A** when I need to enter numbers like when I recently had to activate my XP COA by phone..PHEWW what a nightmare.
The other problem I have is randomly I realize the volume for both are on off..
I dont know how this happens and if I'm to blame but sometimes it happens even if I dont use the phone to make calls I realize the off button is pressed..
Any way to remove the speaker button totally? I wouldn't mind doing it in the settings area..
anyone
can anyone help me?

How to disable back light of Keyboad - G1 - CM4.1.11.

all,I am using CM 4.1.11.1 with Community Hero Theme.
I know the reason for draining my battery but I don't know how to solve it, can any one help?
issue:
When you press phone END button to keep th ephone in SLEEP mode,
- Phone goes to SLEEP mode and the Screen light is OFF.
- But, the Light on Physical keyboard is not switched off some times.
To see this, Get into a dark room and press END button to keep the phone in SLEEP mode.
Once the Phone is in SLEEP Mode,Do not Slide your Keyboard, Keep as it is and observe the Light from space between Slider and keyboard.
(I observed while I was sleeping..my phone was off but there was some light coming out)
I think this is not happening all the times but I have seen it many times and it is draining my battery.
To solve this, I use to open the Slider Press END button and make sure the lights or OFF and close the Slider.
Has any one observed this? can any one tell me how to solve this?
Is there a way to disable and enable the back light of Keyboard?

not coming out of standby - 2 builds

I've tried both Myn's warm donut and incubus super froyo, both builds give me problems coming out of standby most of the time. My actual power button is messed up tho so i have to use the endcall button for all things power. just wondering if it's just me or is it a build problem?
You can use this
seems to be working XD we'll know by the end of the day, thanks!
alright, unfortunately it didn't work. keys are mapped to perfection but it still won't come out of standby UNLESS its charging. for some reason it works flawlessly while charging and not at all when its running off battery. any1 have any ideas?

The power button and charge switch are the only gpios that can really wake the phone. The cam button will also wake the phone, it just gets ignored. This means if you press cam and then another button quickly it should wake up. Without a working power button you will have trouble using the phone though.
just wana begin by sounding like a HUGE nerd: when i saw you commented on MY thread i got all light headed. thanks lol.
okay, it acts a lot like the power button is stuck. when it's plugged in with winmo the screen will turn off then immediately back on, also when i take the battery out and put it back in it comes on immediately. but i'll try your suggestion. also would it matter that i used the key remapping tool to set it to wake with other keys?
I tried taking it apart to examine the power button but i can't get the case to seperate, I've read there are clips holding it but i can't find them. I've looked at the walkthrough on that russian site but it doesn't show the location of the clips.

Samsung Captivate Power Button Not Working . FIXED :)

If your phone's power button is in a 'pressed' state, like mine, (turns on automatically when battery is inserted), it is a hardware issue.
Here is a hassle free alternative to turn on the phone when it is in sleep mode, without relying on the power key!! Takes a minute or two only!!
1. Get 'Go launcher' from the app market (play)
2. Get 'Go Locker'
3. Now Enable Go Locker on your device. And you are done!!
When the screen goes black again, Just press the volume button, The screen wakes up!!
Using this method you don't lose the normal functionality of the volume rocker!!
I recalled that I used to have Go Locker on my phone, and that when I pressed the Volume key the screen turned on!!
At that time I found it a little annoying, But now it has turned out to be such a gift!!
* For this method to work, your phone has to be rooted.
The power button is not going to work until the hardware is repaired, I prefer to use this method, because it is a safe and quick method!!
Believe me I looked around the internet and this forum for a fix, The usual method: editing the system files on the phone, and after which the volume button cannot be used to control the volume.
For those looking for a quick fix, just follow my method!
Cheers!
There are also several roms out there that have the volume rocker wake built into the rom without making it completely useless for it intended purpose. As well as several that offer a go to sleep toggle in the notification window so you can lock your phone again.
so this is a hardware issue ? i had been using the go locker i been using but the power button is annoying cus it keep showing the power button options . and killing my battery.
only fix is samsung?
Pretty much every version of cm for cappy has volume rocker wake as an option, because of this common problem. I use app called turn off screen as well.

I had the exact same problem with my Epic Touch 4G. Thought it was the ROM, the overclock, etc. I flashed back to (almost) stock, went back to original clock speeds. I couldn't figure out what it the world was causing the issue, until it got worse. Then, I noticed that even brushing past the power button would wake the screen, and about 10 seconds later the phone would reboot.
Long story short, I bought a replacement power switch, soldered it in place, and have had zero problems since!
Several eBay sellers offer the proper replacement switch you'll need.
(They don't include the required skills to properly desolder/solder it, however. It's a tiny switch - about 4mm x 2mm x 1.5mm, and you'll need a good quality fine-tipped soldering iron.)
