I've tried both Myn's warm donut and incubus super froyo, both builds give me problems coming out of standby most of the time. My actual power button is messed up tho so i have to use the endcall button for all things power. just wondering if it's just me or is it a build problem?
You can use this
seems to be working XD we'll know by the end of the day, thanks!
alright, unfortunately it didn't work. keys are mapped to perfection but it still won't come out of standby UNLESS its charging. for some reason it works flawlessly while charging and not at all when its running off battery. any1 have any ideas?

The power button and charge switch are the only gpios that can really wake the phone. The cam button will also wake the phone, it just gets ignored. This means if you press cam and then another button quickly it should wake up. Without a working power button you will have trouble using the phone though.
just wana begin by sounding like a HUGE nerd: when i saw you commented on MY thread i got all light headed. thanks lol.
okay, it acts a lot like the power button is stuck. when it's plugged in with winmo the screen will turn off then immediately back on, also when i take the battery out and put it back in it comes on immediately. but i'll try your suggestion. also would it matter that i used the key remapping tool to set it to wake with other keys?
I tried taking it apart to examine the power button but i can't get the case to seperate, I've read there are clips holding it but i can't find them. I've looked at the walkthrough on that russian site but it doesn't show the location of the clips.

Feel free to add this to the FAQ, I'm only making a thread of this because I know alot of people have found themselves unable to enter the bootloader using the Down Vol + Power Button combo that is normally supposed to work.
For some odd reason, it seems as if the volume button in some cases is swapped in hardware functions as it relates to the use of the phone when no software is present to run it.
Hence, if your down volume button doesn't work, try using the camera button + power button to enter bootloader mode instead.
Even if you've just Task 29'ed your device only to find that you can't enter bootloader mode normally, that method should work.

I'll be darned, it does work! Thanks Poet' !!!
Otherwise, I had bad volume button issues (stopped working, ROM independent), that I solved by shoving the mini-usb power plug into the mini-usb slot really really hard for 20 seconds or so and wiggling it a bit while pressing against on the volume key on the other side.
I know it sounds strange, but it really worked. My keyboard issues also stopped after that. Theories?
WOW! My volume button is broken, and couldn't flash ROMs from microSD (didnt bother me tooo much), but it works again This is a god send! Thanks!

Thanks for the tip, but its physically phucked! Slight crack near the volume button, but only the volume button doesent work, sometimes it does work if pressure is applied to the case near the crack, but rarely Not too bad though, i can live with it, after all, we can change volume with the 6.5.X top bar as its not fidly, or even in 6.5 by disabling HTC notifications (which i hate anyway)
I did try ramming the mini usb power plug into it, different pressure while pushing it, moving it while it was inside etc, no such luck and i am a brute with this phone. I love how it can take a drop/punch/scratch. Built solid
a silly volume button doesent really decrease my fuctionality, or doesent do much to stop me changing volume! lol cant complain.

It seems like I have to redo the fix technique about every 1-2 days, but it seems to always solve the problem. Very odd!

Dudes with volume key unresponsive problems:
See my post in the general forum about how to solve the volume key problem. At least for me, turns out that very slight *downward* pressure on the USB port solved the problem. Crazy, I know.
ask 4 a favor
Hi guys,
is there any possible i ask (maybe) the same problem?
maybe i had the same problem here. it wont enter to the bootloader. my phone just won't turn on, i already try to use the power button and volume button (not working), try to use power button + Cam button (won't work either). btw when i charge my X1, the illuminations light didn't show up, when i try to charge w/o the battery only red light on the power button, but once i put the battery again the lights turn off. is there any possible that my phone totally dead? thanks guys, appreciate for your help.

life saver!! thanks dude!!
okay so when my n1 is in sleep, it takes like 3 tries to wake it up. The first time I press the unlock button the unlock screen comes and then goes back to sleep instantly. The second time the lights for the back menu home and search light up and that's it. the third time it works. I'm on froyo. anyone else with this problem?
I have a similar issue.
Sometimes just the capacitive buttons light up and not the screen. I have to make 2 or 3 tries to get it to turn on. Its rare, but its there. It only happened on 2.2.
ok good, me too!
was just looking for this topic.
mine doesnt always turn anything on at all. sometimes the light go on, others nothing. Also trying to turn off the phone is hard as it sleeps straight away with out opening up the power menu.
I have a stock N1, which recently updated to Froyo, with the same problem.
any ideas would be great!
cheers,

Also happens on CM 5.0.7.1.
i think it may be a hardware button issue.
I have tried turning mine off (had to pull the battery out) and then to turn it on.
It should turn on readily as it has nothing to do with the OS at that point.
any ideas?
No HW button issue described. HW button works - if it didn't, lights wouldn't go on. It's a wrong reaction on the button, at least that's what OP describes (and me too).
Your N1's power button is dying, it's a known HARDWARE issue. I experienced all of that what you may think a software bug, nut dear friends, prepare to meet HTC or Google for warranty. My N1's power button is dead, I couldn't swap for a new one because I bought it in my country where no official distributor for N1 yet. Sad!
ps: you may try to search for "N1 power button" and see there are more and more reports about this problem.
I've read more than one or two threads on power button issues, and I know what I'm talking about. My power button DOES power up the phone when the battery is taken off the first shot, it DOES wake the phone from standby, it DOES register long presses - there was even one time when a second press was long, and suddenly the screen woke up with power menu, while the first press left it dark with touch button light going on.
Doesn't look even a bit like HW to me. HW would leave the phone dead, non-responsive to touches, or create a loose touch which would translate into several touches - none of those would EVER turn into a phone being on with screen off, and suddenly snapping back to screen on when the SCREEN is touched several times.
Could be your cpu was too busy to accept any inputs.
I have a thread about it here:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=692874
Take your time! As for me, I'm using my N1 for 3 months now for the power button to completely dead with everyday use (I didn't use any app to trackball-wake).
As I said, all the things you are yelling I have been through. And I, too, thought it was software problem.
I tried both MCR and Cya with no hope.
Good luck!
ps: One of my friend just told me about his N1's power button issue right after hearing me telling about mine.
This sucks
anyone know where i can buy a new button??
Corrupt SD Card
I had the same issue. I'd press the power button, the bottom four buttons would light up but no screen wake. Only way to get out of it was to pull the battery. It would happen maybe 30-40% of the time. (Nexus One Froyo FRF72)
I think it was due to a corrupt MicroSD card. I recently installed a 32gb card and put some music on it using songbird and possibly didn't safely remove. That's when I started getting issues. Removed the SD card completely and it worked fine. Changed back to the old card and no issues. Then formatted the 32gb and tried again, worked fine. Then I tried to transfer more music, there was an error and I got the same problem. (Cheap ebay card from Hong Kong, that'll teach me).
Anyway, I'd be interested to know if that solved anyone else's problem, because all I see on forums are that it's a faulty power button, but that didn't seem to be the case in my situation.
Cheers,
Dylan
-Witty esoteric statement about science/technology.
Mine is doing kinda the same weird thing but a little different.
When I push the power button the screen comes on but is unresponsive to touch. If I press the power button again the screen dims and then turns off, the home keys light up and then the trackball glows white. The phone then does not respond to the power button for around 10 secs and repeats this behavior 4 or 5 times until it actually starts working correctly and I can swipe my finger to get to the home screen.
It usually does this after being inactive for a period of time, like after sitting overnight.

LancherPro Beta 0.6.7.2(maybe the problem?)

i have almost the same issue, although mine happened twice when i was on EPE54B but it's been far more common on FRF91
the only difference is my power will continue to turn the back light on and off no matter if the screen has already timed out or not

I have exactly the same issue. Over in the general forum, there's another thread on this issue. Many, myself included, are reporting that this problem started after the FRF91 update. Can you confirm?

Read again carefully. Are you sure your hardware problem was identical to what the OP described? I've noticed a lot of people with obvious hardware problems (i.e., the power button is completely unresponsive) posting on threads like this when they actually have a different problem. It's very confusing.

This sounds VERY promising -- thank you britoso!
PS: Are you guys getting the unresponsive unlock slider like britoso describes?
I had this problem when I first flashed CM6 yesterday. Even after wiping and reflashing it was the same. Only way to get out of the black screen was to do a soft reset, power + vol down + trackball. I finally found out that my SD card malfunctioned and was corrupt. I tried reformatting the sd card in an microsd card reader but windows said it could not be reformatted. I finally switched back to another microsd card that was working, wipe and reflashed cm6 and the problem went away. Try backing up all the data on your microsd onto your computer then reformat it and wipe then reflash to see if it works
Edit: ughhhh it just happened again, but not as bad as before, turns back on after second try... maybe i didnt press the trackball hard enough
Hello all,
I got my phone when they first came out on Jan 5th and have just ran into my first issue. It seems that the power button has become really hard to press (like it is lower than it used to be). I have to press down just right to get it to register. I know that others have been having power button issues and was wondering if anyone has ran into this? Any suggestions on actions to take? What were others peoples power button issues?
Thanks
Yea, I started to use No lock from the market its free. With this program you can use the trackball to unlock you phone or bring it from sleep mode you will not have to use the power button as often.
Hope this helps
Is your button hard to press or just not registering?
Sometimes I would have to push it more then once. So I don't believe its really hard to push but, more so just not registering all the time.
It's not to often I had that problem. but, I did notice you have to use the button alot so I didn't want to wear it down.
Mine used to be like that and then eventually it became extremely hard to press. Practically took 10-15 tries using force to get it to turn on. I sent it back to HTC and now it's more responsive than when I first got it. Took about 4 days total.
Leo Laport's nexus's power button broke. Just send it back.
It could be just dust under the power button. I just took off the back cover and blew at the space under the power button. It's working every time now. Worth a shot before you send it in anways.
I have the same issue, hard to press and sometimes not registering at all.
Unfortunately trackball wake is not available for froyo yet. This would be a fine workaround for me.
I was having problems with the power button not working well, but it seems to be much better under the new FRF72 Froyo build.

+1 on the excellent suggestion.
The rear battery cover is integral to the power button assembly. It keeps it aligned on the fore aft axis. So dust and crap therein seems to restrict it at times. If you have power button issues, at very least remove the battery cover to see if releasing the friction it creates improves things. The power button becomes somewhat wobbly and loose with the rear cover off.
hi, i was wondering if its possible to turn the screen on(after locking, to unlock) by pressing the volume buttons instead of just the power button? Its really annoying having the power button the only means of turning the screen on, my old renoir worked with my volume buttons(and anything else) same as my dads arena .
Also does anyone know how to change the auto backlight settings? The intervals are terrible, it doesnt drop high or low enough to save battery but the steps are so close you notice the backlight drop just by tilting it away from any light source lol (very sensitive and annoying without really helping battery life!).
Tried searching so I apologize if its already been mentioned but i havent found any mention or solution .
i saw an option of setting the volume button to turn/wake the phone up. i believe it's from the CM7 build..
Yep, turning phone on with volume buttons is definately available on CM7. But I don't think there's that option with any of the MRC roms.
I'm sure that tiny power button will wear out sooner rather than later...it would be good to have another way of waking up the screen.
Yes option is available in CM7, but not still got a few bugs
Okay, have read, right across the net, and unfortunately the more I read, the more muddled I have become, so utmost apologies in advance, as I know this has been asked on numerous occasions, but I can't for the life of me, interpret the information correctly. Basically I bought a used nexus one, with the all famous dead power button. After struggling to wake it using the battery pull technique, I eventually managed to get it going. It came with cynogenmod 7.2.0-passion, already installed. Now I thought there was a way to start the phone, after its been powered off, by pressing other buttons like volume up or down, and I went in cynogenmod settings, hit input and ticked volume rocker awake, but this won't turn on my device when it's off. So not sure if it's possible at all to use some hack to turn on the phone with other buttons other than the dead power battery, because the pull battery technique, is not very reliable. Thanks in advance.

Hey dude, I feel your pain as I had a similar experience last week. But unfortunately, there is no way you can start your phone unless you get your button fixed. The only other way is to do the rather unpredictable battery trick.
The volume wake and trackball settings are there only to awake your phone and not to turn it on.
Sent from my Nexus One
Cheers buddy, will just eBay it, then.
