Voltage control extreme (overvolting) - Epic 4G Themes

Anyone use this and experiencing any benefits from overvolting. I know its pretty unsafe to overvolt but my phone has trouble staying stable at 1.3ghz for more than 20 minutes and was wondering if overvolting it to 1325mv would help? I just don't feel like spending 2 dollars on an app that might not even help.

Don't you mean to say Under-volt because Over-volt which isn't possible, would mean giving more voltage to the frequency meaning more juice being sucked, and most likely wouldn't work out in the first place. haha
1.3Ghz should normally be @ 1325mv anyway, so you would want to Under-volt it 50-100mv if you can, i normally have 600-1000Mhz UV'ed by 50mv, 200-400Mhz UV'ed by 75mv & 100Mhz UV'ed by 100mv. I dont even use anything higher anymore seeing how there is no use for it besides saying " Oh hey look my phone can do this or can do that" only purpose is to
benchmark and who cares anymore haha. Its fun every now and again.

Technically, the over clocked frequencies are under volted by default. That is why some phones can't handle the OC - it's the same issue people have with too much UV on the stock frequencies.
Higher frequencies require higher voltages, but the voltages required by over clock frequencies would exceed the maximum voltage rating of the chip. So the developers had to UV those frequencies to avoid exceeding the max voltage - they decided that instability (and recoverable problems that may result) are a safer risk than burning up the chip

I overvolted 1.3ghz to 1350mv and it has been smooth ever since. I know its gonna waste my battery away but I needz my 1.3 jiggawatts. Not really but its fast lol and helps dungeon defenders not stutter as much.

I'll chime in, you are absolutely correct. XxLostSoulXx, you are definitely wrong: of course it is possible to overvolt. I can see the OP's reasoning and I would say go for it, just be careful and keep in mind that you are already above spec voltages for 1.3ghz.

I guess if you say so but i cant OverVolt it only allows me to UVolt.

I think you're misunderstanding a little. Undervolting reduces the voltage it uses. So less power. Higher frequencies require more power to function well. So taking power away would only make the problem worse. Undervolting is ONLY useful for saving battery power. Overvolting would eat your battery, but give more energy to the higher frequency, and level out the stability.

No. He needs more voltage to power the frequencies he can't handle. Why do you think the phone freezes if you UV too much? And Overvolting is more than possible.

Okay can you give me a screen shot of doing it or a link to the voltage control because i believe i have the latest and i cant theres no option for me to OverVolt when i hit the frequency the bar. its to the right and only can move it to left thus UnderVolting seeing how it says -25,-50 and so on.

Look it up in the market it costs 2 dollars I bought it yesterday

do you mean to say that in the free version its a feature or there saying in the paid version you have the option?

Bought it earlier today, got me stable at 1.3 (instead of only 1.2) with an extra 50mv on both core/internal voltages. Awesome. And its TRUELY faster.

The paid version is called Voltage Control Extreme. It is a paid app. Its an add on to the free Voltage Control. So if you get it and install it, it doesn't show up as another app but it will allow you to overvolt instead of only undervolt. It will help those who can't get 1300 or 1400 stable as long as they don't go overboard with it

Q: is anyone OCed at more then 768 MHz?

Just wondering if anyone has a hack or somthing if so what kernel to get it over 768 MHz?
Not with a great deal of luck.
I've been oc'd up to 844, but started to get the occasional reboot. I was stable at 821. I didn't notice any performance gain, but I did see a greatly increased battery drain. Truthfully, it isn't worth it.

Im oc to 806 runs great. But like user said battery drain for real. And some apps work funny so I agree not worth it. Plus it makes my phone screen warm.

I dont think going that far up really gives that much of a performance gain though. Just saying
Not really and my phone freezes at 844 but it is stable at 825 but the same minimal performance gain as 806mhz.

Possible overclock?

I found this thread on the bionic forum http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1439013 with overclock zips. The modules for d3 are available here http://code.google.com/p/opptimizer/downloads/list from what I read in the official thread here http://rootzwiki.com/topic/14511-op...4-overclocking-kernel-modulesofficial-thread/ it would show up in set cpu and wouldn't require having the MIN jacked all the time. anyone see any reason this wouldn't work?

[edit] So apps do see the max as 1.2, Rom manager, cm settings etc. Linpack shows better performance no different than the 1200 overclock binary. The only thing missing is the 1000 slot, 300 600 800 and 1200 are all useable.
I'd say it's very safe just don't go too high.

Reading in the other threads it appears that much over that and phone will just reboot due to lack of voltage. I thought this would be nice in that the kernel sees the change and we don't have to have the cpu at full throttle

Then go to updates. There should be updated modules there for droid 3 with voltage control.

Yes I just read through the entire thread. Voltage control is a fail for the bionic sadly due to reasons I mostly but not entirely understood. I think the d3 is gonna have the same issue from what I (sorta) understood. However when I have time to sit down and try this I will def post in the official thread to let him know my experience.
I just wanted to show it to the xda d3 community, as the idea of voltage control and a 1.5 or higher oc is exciting (if you're like me and get excited about such things )

I was looking in downloads. OC'd and increase voltage works, my device doesn't like being oc'd much even with the volts up it's unstable above 1.2
What voltage are you trying? 1388000?

got as high as 1394000 before reboot

also, afaik undervolting does not harm your processor. although the performance will suffer a little. just based on experience.

You can check with Bat Stat. It's a widget and work very well.
From my experience a mobile completely in idle should stay at 25/30°C, messaging and do some other light things up to 35°C and gaming 45°

mine is like 35 when charging and browsing XDA apply like right now. and with light browsing and stuff it goes up to 37

hmm, it seems I'm not the only one but ATM mine is off charger and it is 20 after a phonecall for 5mins and now xda so it is very strange as I noticed this happening since like a week...
and the temperature change seems to affect my batt life... i used to get like atleast 24hours.. now it is far from that

Temperature change means that your CPU is working. That's why you use more battery. If you want to preserve your battery on a rooted phone you can use apps like "SetCPU" and set as max cpu speed 1016 MHz. This will not reduce drastically you phone speed but will help you to preserve more battery. When you want to play some game set the max value back to 1500 Mhz

Atm I was reading a book from Play Books and temp is 29. With my Note I had similar values.
The thing that is different between XZ and Note it's that XZ can't exchange hot cause it's waterproof and Note can do more effectively.
XZ has a front and back "glass" so it's more sensible about external temp.
Here in Italy summer it's coming and I'll expect about 30° CPU temp as normal

My fault, i was talking about battery temp. Cpu temp can't be monitored, but i think that is directly propotional with battery temp
Yeah is normal it is a special feature Sony build in. That's foe the winter time to keep Ur hands warm when u use the phone. To bad they do not included a turn off switch for it.

Today I wanted to test how is the battery of this phone. I had unplugged from charger at 6.30 AM and connected to PC for 10 mins during the day. Now I have 33% remain and I went on YouTube, listened songs with Spotify (offline), SMS, FB, Twitter, Viber, Play Book: a normal daily use for me.
I have .253 fw and Doom Kernel with wheatley governor and cfq scheduler. 1026 MHz max - 192 MHz min. Juice Defender Ultimate for mobile data and WiFi always active when I am at home or at work.
About 18h without charge. For me it's an exceptional battery life. (when i hade Note I used to go with 3 more battery in the bag!)

Timing is more critical on a class 10 card than the slower cards. Over clocking and you can get hiccups with the timing on read/writes with the card, leading to corruption

I have Raspbmc installed, you can do a custom overclock.
My settings are:
CPU 1100
Core 450
Image sensor pipe 450
GPU 250
RAM 450
Overvolt 6
With a small (50 mm) fan powered from a usbhub it never gets hotter than 42C.

Thank you for your reply. I have a large Alu heatsink on the CPU and smaller heatsink on every chipset of the Raspberry, even on the power MOSFET. On top of the heatsink I have a big 120mm 12V fan, which is working at about 9V to maintain silence.
The CPU has been overclocked to 1000Mhz, and I've never seen temps over 38 degrees on the CPU when the fan is running and 44 when the fan is not running. If I keep the stock frequency I have 28 with fan turned on and 34 without the fan.
Which is the maximum frequency that the Raspberry CPU can take?

Thank you for your reply. I have a large Alu heatsink on the CPU and smaller heatsink on every chipset of the Raspberry, even on the power MOSFET. On top of the heatsink I have a big 120mm 12V fan, which is working at about 9V to maintain silence.
The CPU has been overclocked to 1000Mhz, and I've never seen temps over 38 degrees on the CPU when the fan is running and 44 when the fan is not running. If I keep the stock frequency I have 28 with fan turned on and 34 without the fan.
Which is the maximum frequency that the Raspberry CPU can take?

1000mhz with warrenty
But how much past 1000Mhz? I don't care about warranty, it's allready expired.

Over 1ghz you have many chances to destroy your RPi, and I don't know how to do it.

I know the risk, but still... I want to know how much I can go past the stock 1000Mhz. The performance would be great with a Class 10 Card (I will take this risk too).
