I laughed before I realized the thread likely got moved after you posted... At least I hope so.
Back on topic... Are you certain you flashed the correct modem. As far as I have heard that is the only thing that really can prevent the tab from seeing the card.
Yea I saw it was moved. Sorry for wrong area.
I flashed jk3 modem since it looked like the correct modem for my att tab. But that was just frim reading the forums. If there is a better choice for a modem I will be happy to flash that. I tried several different sim cards too and it didn't recognize any of them.

This is strange my phone says
PDA: I897UCjH7
Phone: I897UCjH3
CSC: I897ATTjF6
Don't ask me how that happened lol must have been through the many sre changes but that is what the phone is reporting. I used the SGS Toolbox app to retrieve this information.
Is this an issue to have the pda as jh7 and the phone as jh3. If so then how do I get it back?

no this isn't an issue, and what you probably did is ODIN'd JF6, then ODIN'd JH3, and then either did a nandroid to something based on JH7. no this doesn't matter. the only way you can change phone or csc is through odin
edit: should also add, this is the WRONG section. this isn't development related, please post in general or Q&A
This was regarding an SRE issue but I forgot to state that and did post this in the SRE thread but it got lost. There was no nandroid restore involved with this. This was a master clear to jf6 then jh3. I did have a jh7 on the phone at one point but that was before the master clear.

either way, short answer is "PDA" can be changed through things that aren't Odin, "PHONE" cannot, and "CSC" cannot either (I think, haven't tested). it still doesn't matter if you got "ignored" in the SRE thread, this isn't development related and doesn't belong in this forum. you could keep asking in SRE until you get an answer or ask in general or Q&A next time.
Fine then report post to mod and have it moved over to QA. Or you can have the whole post deleted.

I'm not going to report you for making a mistake, I'm informing you for future reference. Your question has been answered, but the NEXT time you have an issue, consider if it's best to have it addressed in the thread of where the issue cropped up (you might get ignored, but that's the name of the game sometimes) OR to post it under general or Q&A (since it's a question after all not related to the development of android on the Captivate)
ok, i tried the method posted on samfirmware.com
flashing the jm8 with repartition 512 pit, then doing pit803 jpm with reorient kernel. the issue is whenever i do sd reformat/data wipe, i get some errors during bootup (red lines saying unable to datawipe or something). i went ahead and flashed the jpm with 803, but then i get more errors during data wipe/sd reformat. is there a specific method for flashing JPM with reorient kernel for captivate users? thanks guys.

a) wrong section
b) search is your friend, reaver117 made a very detailed instruction set of how to run i9000 firmwares on our phone, and it's still applicable
c) if you can't figure out a and b on your own, maybe you should stick to captivate firmwares

Not really, he's just tired of people asking the same questions daily, not searching or reading anything, and making their own thread (especially in the wrong subtopic).

lol I would love to know where the "troll" in my post was. I told you to take care of it yourself and pointed you in the right direction. I've seen your posts here and there, and, to be quite honest, they're usually "can be solved by a simple search after 30 seconds."
People ask dumb questions everyday, I actually took the time to be a tad bit civil to you. I don't have to baby you through it when you should be able to take care of it yourself. Whatever, I'm done with this thread and I'll be sure to not help you again.
(MODS, PLEASE MOVE TO Q&A)Sticky Guide for flashing custom ROMs has a broken link?
The top sticky for flashing a custom ROM has a broken link to the ODIN file I need to download. Do you guys know where I can find it now?
Try posting in the Q&A section, I'm not at my home computer right now but if your question still isn't answered by 4:00 I'll give you my link.

Do not post questions in the Development forum. That is why there is a Q&A forum.
If your phone has the 3-button issue, use this one. Otherwise, use this one.
The links in both of those threads should be active.
I have never rooted or flashed my Cappy, so I'm still on stock 2.1. Also, I have never had any issues with the 3 buttons on my device, but briefly looking at the "3-button issue" thread, that appears to be a problem only with people who have already flashed their phones, not anyone with a stock unit. So, if I wanted to root/flash my phone for the first time using the sticky thread tutorial, I would want to use the ODIN link in this thread: "[STOCK ROM] Odin3 One-Click Downloader and Drivers CAPTIVATE ONLY".

Yes, you will want to use the one from the second thread that I posted. Also, look underneath your battery. There will be a four number code (1007, 1008, etc.). What's the code on yours?
between the S/N and SKU the 4 digit number is: 1012, thena short bar code, then it says REV0.4
O wait, I only need to use ODIN if I'm not on a stock 2.1 unrooted Captivate, right?

Don't use 1 click on that build. Or you will be a sad panda.
Edit: correct no reason to flash stock from stock.
Would I be right in assuming that one-click ODIN puts an older version of the stock ROM on my phone, and I don't need to use ODIN at all because I'm not rooted and still on the stock ROM?

That assumption would be correct.
But as stated above. Never use the Odin 1 click that I posted earlier. You will indeed be a "sad panda". Your phone will be bricked.
Anyway, wait for someone else to come along and tell you which Odin to use. I'm not sure myself which one you need for your phone.
But regardless, for your first flash, you shouldn't need to wipe your phone.
Hi All,
I have been searching around for ages to find an answer with no luck!
I just flashed a mates tab with the following: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1074759
"[7.July.2011][ROM][GSM][2.3.3] ◄► Overcome ROM v3.0.0-ICARUS ◄► Kernel v3.2.0 ◄►"
The tab is from optus here in australia - the problem is now it asks to inset the sim card - but its in there.
Now I made sure to flash a modem for optus...
What am I missing?? He is here watching over my shoulder lol
I am trying a full relfash using the JPZ modem.... any ideas as to what is should be?
***EDIT - OK - it seems following the overcome mod steps - when I do the odin flash with the choice of modem its all ok.
It reads the sim card no problems and gets service.
But when I update to the overcome mod via CWM using the zip file - it no longer works...
Any ideas?
help?? I still can't post in the dev forum even tho I have been here for ages

i think you need 10 posts.
yeah - I have never had enough issues to have to post before of wellz lol I have tried every modem with no luck which suxs as I really like the way the rom looked.
I'm a dev and I've spent 2 hours reading and trying...
Can I flash KC1 or KG3 from ClockworkMod 4 or 5 ? I'm on Linux and I avoid ODIN if at all possible.
I flash back and forth between CM7 nightlies and various MIUI ROMs. I need my SIM to work for s/w testing, for data and voice.
This i9000m phone is pretty new, was a Virgin Mobile model (pretty much Bell) and I use a SIM from an MVNO of Bell. (President's Choice.) With the stock ROM this worked without unlocking.
I tried some ZIP files for these basebands, meant for CWM3. I also tried replacing the modem.bin in the latest CM7 nightly. Nothing I do makes Settings -> About show a baseband other than "I9000XXJVK".
When I do a search for networks, it eventually shows me: 302610, 30220 and "CAN Rogers Wireless Inc." and I have emergency service I believe.
At the dial keypad I can't make "*#1234#" or "*#0011#" do anything.
Thanks !
No thoughts ?
I managed to get KC1 and KG3 loaded fine when installed along with Darky ROM using heimdall.
But when I install CM nightly, it overwrites the modem.bin.
And when I then use heimdall to flash the KC1 or KG3, CM says "Baseband version Unknown".
Same when I flash a modified CM zip with a new updater.sh and a removed modem.bin over Darky.
EDIT: Solved. I guess I need CM7/MIUI specific modems from this thread: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1158783
