Just saw the news that the Tab 2 is 10.1". I had been waiting to buy a tablet for the Tab 2 with hopes of the upgraded hardware and still a 7" screen. I don't want a 10" screen for a tab.
I guess i'm just looking to see if the hardware on the Tab 1 is good enough for most things.
Guess I'm just disappointed in a 10".
Will you be using it as a phone? If yes, I would ask to re-think it twice about 10" for a phone lol
I actually am thinking about letting mine go and get a Dell Streak phone (the 5"). While I love the tab but I kinda miss being able to toss it in my pocket and don't have to use bluetooth.
Or you can just wait until Honeycomb will be released, at that time you will have an upgrade in your GT 7" from Samsung or from XDA.
At the moment the Hardware is capable enough to make everything you want, record video at 720, watch HD movies or play HD Games...
Personally, I would not move to a 10" Tab, as a 7" fits my needs.
I'm not moving. I don't have 1.
I was waiting to buy a tab till the 2, but it's 10". I've played with my friends Ipad, besides being locked down, I don't like how big it is. I really like the 7" size.
I don't think in NA I can use it as a phone. PLus I don't think I want a CDMA tab even tho My cell is Verizon.
I'm using it mainly as GPS, Game, email, hopefully Skype, etc. All over wifi. I travel for my job and would like to have this, and wherever I go I have wifi, and refuse to pay ~30-40/month for a data plan or w/e.
So was just looking to see if people felt I should get the 7". I mean I know it's my decisions, I guess I just want to know based on what I want to use it for, does it do it well.
I do plan on rooting it and stuff, I heard some of the ROM's actually remove a ton of the lag, and I doubt samsung will release HoneyComb so was hoping a xda developer would for the Tab, and the Tab would be powerful enough to run it.
The 10" was a big downer. I dont see any real use for a tab just in the home and a 10" is to big to have with you all the time plus its heavy for the hands/wrists to use longer times.
Now when im running Rotos JMI ontop a 1,4GHz ext4 kernel i cant realy ask for much more. The tab works great and are quick in the perfect format.
Would be fun if hc get ported to the sgt. But i will never buy a 10" when they are almost completly useless in my eyes.
EDIT: And i use my sgt as phone so i have it on me all the time. It fits in my front pockets on my pants without problems, but im a big dude so i have big pockets

I got big pockets too, the 7" fits.
I thought the tab 1 was 1GHZ not 1.4?. But you like it alot?
I don't think I can get calling in USA.
I'm glad the Tab 10.1 turned out to be a larger device. Now i can stop trying to figure out how to afford to upgrade, and stay with the Tab1 with its 7" of goodness.

He's flashed it with a custom kernel to run at 1.4.
If you buy the AT&T version, you can indeed get voice calling in the US, after you flash it with Euro firmware and insert a SIM from a voice plan device. You can also get it with the T-Mobile version, but there's a few issues with that. Good news is that both versions can use international firmware no problem, even if you don't want/use voice calling.
I'd stay the hell away from the Sprint and Verizon devices for a couple of reasons. The first is that they have less internal memory (2Gb vs 16Gb), and the other is that neither unit can use international firmware, leaving you almost entirely at the mercy of the carriers for upgrades.

This is the kind of information I was looking for. TY for taking time.
What about the Best Buy / Amazon version? Yea I was staying away from Verizon/CDMA. I have verizon for my phone cause of work, and not a huge fan.
However, I won't need calling on the Tab.
Does it function OK OC"d at 1.4? It doesn't get too hot? Stability issues?
Yea I don't want to be at mercy. I want to put honeycomb on it if I do get it. I probably will now that 2 is 10, so I'll get 1. Just gonna wait and see if price comes down to like 400 or somethign hopefully.
I am 7" fan, too. Would love to see a SGT with the specs of the new 10.1" SGT 2 (or xoom), but with 7" screen. I am not big man, but "rounded in middle" (spare tire). I can fit my SGT in back pocket, nicely. It has fully replaced my Nexus 1.
For the 7" fans, the question maybe to stick with SGT 1 or maybe look at Acer a100 (http://www.mobileburn.com/news.jsp?Id=13010) -- appears to be 7" but with Tegra 2 (and a bump in a few other areas). The 7" form factor may have been validated with rumors about a 7" ipad (but those rumor seem unsubstantiated) -- so that might make more manufacturers take notice.
What would be really intersting, IMHO, 6", or 6.5" with SGT (or better) specs. I am not sure a 5" with 1024x600 would work..
LG has an 8.9" odd ball too.....
I think there is some more to come from MWC...maybe sammy has a refresh for the 7" sgt too?
Don't forget Dell has a 7" tablet too and it has dual core CPU (unlike our SGT 7"). The only downer is screen size is 800x480.
I don't think you could buy a SGT (no contract) lesser than $450 unless used. Streak 7" is $450 no contract.
I was in the same boat - bought my GT two weeks ago on T-Mobile, hoping that if there is an announcement about GT2, I can take a look at it before my return window closes. And at 10" no thank you. I actually had an iPad for few months (my wife wanted it more than me...) but just sold it, because it kept sitting unused, as it was too big for a book reader or to take it with me everywhere, but too small for good browsing (have a 14.1" laptop with 1680x1050 res for that).
I looked at the Dell Streak 7, but that screen just plain sucks. It looks like Dell was trying to build something nice, then just decided last minute that 7" won't work, so they found the cheapest LCD they could lay their hands on. Not to mention the battery life...
While it would be nice to have a GT with dual-core, 1Gb RAM and all that, I think the current hardware is more than capable, and will run Honeycomb just fine. My next tablet would have to be a lot more powerful, and have higher res screen.
i will stay with my 7'' tab
the best thing about the tab is it's size and the cell phone. i dont want to go back walking around with two devices in my pocket, i used to have an iphone & a big ass ipad so i know what is like to walk with two devices not cool lol.who ever makes the next 7'' tab with all the good stuff and a cell phone included i'm buying that.

Well i came to the tab from a dell streak and i'll tell ya the tab does everything way better than the streak, except fit in your pocket...... i wont be going back to the streak.
Yea I've read about the Dell 7", not getting that for sure. Screen rez alone plus battery life, no TY.
So there is another 7" Tab coming?
EDIT: That Ace 7" seems nice, plus a WIFI only version. No word on release in USA tho, only Europe.
FYI: HTC annouced the 'flyer' at MWC. This is a 7" too. 1.5ghz, 1024x600, cameras, android 2.4 (?) or honeycomb, etc. GSM voice support unknown.

I think i may return my GT and wait for this. I will only be buying one Tab, so I gotta make the right choice.
Here is a decent comparison matrix of the newly announced Android tablets
http://www.droid-life.com/2011/02/1...-lg-g-slate-vs-samsung-tab-10-1-vs-htc-flyer/
no mention of phone/voice on any of these; this is a deal breaker for some of us.
It's a deal breaker for me as i was a "one gadget man"
my main reason i go with samsung was because it can be used as a phone
if it isn't i'd go with htc already
if flyer can be used as a phone too, i might be jumping ship to htc ^^
So my original Nook went to the great gadget drawer in the sky. I was able use my SquareTrade warranty and they sent me a check for replacement. I am now debating between a NC and rooting it for an inexpensive tablet or going for a Samsung Tab. A NC is $249, while I can find a gently used Samsung Tab for around $400.
When the difference between the 2 was $300, the choice was a easier. Now that the difference is closer to $150, it is a bit more difficult. I currently have a MT4G rooted with CM7 RC1, but would like something a bit larger for reading, web access and watching movies. From my research, the NC is a good tablet, but seems it lacks a cohesive experience. The Samsung Tab is a better tablet obviously since it is meant to be a tablet. I am concerned about a Samsung product since they don't have the best record for updates, etc. What say you fellow XDA'ers, a NC or a Samsung Tab? How is the ereading experience on a Samsung tab? Thanks and kudos for everyone's help!
it all depends, if you have a tmobile? you could get a galaxy tab on sprint for 300 and 30/month and have service ware your phone doesnt.( that's alot of places since sprint has a much better coverage area) now, honestly if you dont care abotu the device having it's own connectivity? than go for the NC also keep in mind you get to text and do video calling on your galaxy tab. if all you're doing is reading? you'll be fine with the NC rooted, it has pretty good wifi range and the screen while not QUITE as nice as the galaxy tab, is still nice.
basicly, if you want the camera/connectivity, go with the galaxy tab, they are really nice.
if you dont need those things the NC if fine for you.
Can you watch movies on the NC? What about the Samsung Tab? I was looking to add some of movies that I have ripped.

you can watch some video formats on a stock rooted NC and more formats on the g tab, but in a month or so youll have many more options for videos and maybe even blue tooth in the NC
T-Mobile has pretty good coverage in my area, thankfully. I have been a T-Mobile customer for many years and love their customer service.
I am really torn on this purchase. I wish I knew how well the Samsung Tab handled ebooks.
I work for sprint, so i have some bias. I play with the tab daily and saw the nook and knew i wanted it. You can get a "overdrive" that does 3G/4G and duct tape it to the nook and you'd be saving money with more options. The tab does brick, but i haven't seen one person on here that says they bricked a nook. It might be that the nook doesn't have the camera, mic and gps to bring up any issues but i don't use those parts so why pay for them. Just a thought from my peanut gallery.

Why are you wanting to sell the NC?
I have a rooted NC running CM7 and love it. Best 250 i've spent in a long time.
I think GT is much better, at least it has 3G, Bluetooth, 4-button and the Amodled mon. It is a trade-off between price and function.
NC is the highest C/P ratio device!
I have both the NC and the Viewsonic G Tablet. I use both. When size is important, I take the NC (7") . When size is not an issue or I need flash, I take the Viewsonic G Tablet (10").
In terms of performance, the Viewsonic G is by far the best. For more info check out the Viewsonic G Tablet forum.

I'm looking for a Tab, but Transformer seems to big for me. P1000 is the perfect size, but it is pretty old device. Is it still worth buying today?
Thanks.
If you think 7" tablet is a perfect size for you then why not, the Galaxy tab is only 1 year old and it still stands against any other alternatives out in the market today.
I would hardly say just because the tablet is "pretty old" that it isn't a good purchase. It's well supported by developers and the fact that people are still purchasing it... Its a solid working and built piece of kit.
You won't be disappointed.
I would say that they are definitely still worth it. The price point alone is a great reason. You can get a Galaxy tablet for less than half the price of many of the newest tabs.
It's already been shown that these models are capable of running the new firmwares. There are ports of Honeycomb out there already, and though there are still some issues to be ironed out, they work pretty well. Since installing a 2.3.4 rom on my vzw tab, I've been very impressed with how responsive and cleanly it runs.
Having handled some of the newer and larger tablets, I've found that the smaller size is really more ideal to me personally. I can fit my Galaxy tablet in my pocket. My folks for example both have iPads, and they are just much larger and bulkier devices. You can't drop one in your pocket real quick while you are out on the run.
Anyway, hope that helps!

I live in eastern europe and here the tab's price is almost the same as Transformer's. And that one has Tegra 2 and a nice 10.1' IPS display. They are both here 540 USD / 380 EUR. I tried Iconia A500 Tab, but I was quite disappointed - it was very heavy, typing text while trying to hold with one hand was challenging. The OS and that big display sure looks great, but for now I can't see my self taking this out in the street while walking, or chatting (IM) while sitting in the bus on my way college. How much is the P1000 in the US? Or UK?

In the UK, the P1000 (if you can find any in stock) still goes for around £399 and the P1010 is currently in bestbuy/currys for £299.
But search on ebay or other sites, you can find one for a lot cheaper. I got mine brand new from ebay for £250 (P1000).
Of course, these will probably fall in price when newer alternatives comes out but for now, they are holding its value as they are still popular and people are buying them.
I just bought one today. So far I am happy with it.
I have seen the US models selling new for between $150-200 when you buy from a mobile provider. For example, I know Verizon was selling them earlier this year for $200 when you agreed to a two year service agreement. I've also seen the WiFi only tablets for $350. Personally, I was willing to sign a contract, because having the 3g data access was something I desired.
But, I would do as one of the other posters suggested, and check ebay. As I understand it, you can buy a US model and put a European firmware on it. I would double check that though, as I don't want to tell you something I am not entirely sure of.
Got mine a month ago in aussie land, on a 12 month contract. 0 dollars for the tab and $39 a month for the plan with 8g of data and I get 3 months of the plan for free. Was really happy with that price.
Got mine in Italy for 300 Eur. Best purchase of the year: perfect balance between pocketability and readability, and with Gingerbread it is lag free and quick.
Rumours are that Samsung is going to present a revamped 7" tablet w/ upgraded cpu and amoled screen. I won't upgrade unless it has usb host or otg, which is the feature I miss much on my Tab.

Nothing wrong with the P1000. Good support is important. Even if it's a year old it still beats an ipad. Good resolution and speed, and very complete. Very sturdy, durable Gorilla glass.

I bought mine last month, and I love it. My pocket is not that big to fit in the tab, so I bought a small bag to bring around. I was confused whether buying Galaxy S (for super amoled and small factor) or Galaxy Tab (for bigger screen to read ebooks). Well, its worth buying
I bought one a couple of weeks ago, and am very happy so far. Yes, it's a year old - but the screen is very good (much better than alternative 7" tablets'), it's relatively cheap & there's lots of development going on with it.
The next 7" from Samsung is set to have an AMOLED screen & will probably be dual-core, which will be awesome, but I wanted something now & wasn't prepared to 1) wait & 2) pay much more than I did...
Make sure you root & stick Overcome ROM on it! It becomes a different animal once you do!
Got an Asus Transformer for the home/travel, but day to day chucking in pocket (albeit large pockets), still love the Tab. Got it for 200bucks so can't complain.
If I had to pay full price? I think I'd skip, for that price a newer 7" tablet would still be preferred.
Main thing it comes down to though is where are you, and do you need voice? if so, Tab might still be perfect for you.
It's a good question to ask here, as the answer isn't obvious. Without a tablet, I would, if I had the cash, get the Tab again. It's portability still makes it a winner for me.
Waiting for the next model is ok, but... these things always seem to take 6months longer than initially planned it appears.
Thee galaxy pad still a good tab/phone. its fast, not to big and have a lot of apps/games that works so...
Galaxy tab worth to buy.why?
The best tablet for 7 inch tablet.
Equiped with microsd, simcard for mms,sms,3g and telephone
the best size to carry around even easily beat ipad
Development of Custom rom and stock rom are always up to date
unless samsung release new 7 inch tablet with dual core processor and amoled sceen
then it is not worthy anymore to purchase
When I got the P1000, my standard in speed and responsiveness on android began to change. I began to compare the Qualcomm chipset based androids vs. the Hummingbird of Samsung. The P1000 (and the original Galaxy S Plus which runs the same thing) is really good and even better can match the next gen Qualcomm. See how the original Galaxy S graphics even beats the Galaxy S Plus (newer release), is because of the same speedy setup done before.
The P1000 is a very good device. Really crazy why Samsung shortchanged many unknowing people as they downgraded the P1010 with an inferior chipset and graphics.
Is there already a dual core 7" as good as the P1000? The Dell Streak 7 besides abit more massive has a problem with batt life. Archos I didn't bother to consider. Is there anymore? The Galaxy Tab 8.9 is coming out better (dunno when), but it is not 7". Nothing compares that I know... for now.
I've only had mine for about a week, I bought it second hand for a great price and I love it so far. I use it more than my laptop and my Asus Transformer. I LOVE the size. The 10" tabs you pretty much need to use both hand to hold it all the time, the G.Tab easily in 1. Plus being able to type with both thumbs instead of finger pecking is a HUGE plus.
Yeah, the Galaxy Seven will probably be out in a couple months but if you need one now then it's a great little tab.
I was at the shop today again, played with XOOM and again with Galaxy Tab. Damn its size is just perfect and the screen so detailed and feels high quality. But then I tried to do what I do on My N900 (Maemo 5 OS), and WOW :O IT CAN NOT MULTITASK. I never noticed that! You can not have skype online and browse the web while listening to music. I asked the guy at the shop. He confirmed, just some can "run in the background" but there is no task switcher... Maybe you can make it multitask? On iOS i have backgrounder and Kirikae and it works like a charm, can you do the same on android?
Skype online while browsing the web and listening to music? won't the sound conflict?

I'll be getting it as soon as it comes to Canada. I've been waiting for this tablet for quite some time.
if they sell it in US and the price is under $400, then I will get one. I have both Galaxy tab 7 and 10.1.
To be honest, I love my tab 7 more since it so easy to hold and most of the apps/games are compatiable with Gingerbread.
10.1 is nice and fast.. but it is a little bit too thin and too large. hahah.. I am probably the only one to complain the "thin".
Anyways, the 8.9 is still too large to hold by one hand (I have a small hand) as well as my 5 years son.
Tab 7 is almost perfect for me except the CPU is a little bit slow, there are some lagging..opening apps/games..
So, 7.7 is dual-core (small size) is perfect for me. Hope Samsung keeps the price low.. Anyways, I am selling the 10.1 Anyone?

I'm thinking about jumping over to the xoom or acer a500, i am really cheesed off with the lack of support from samsung.
I bought my P1000, 3 days ago.. So now I am still ultra-happy..
I saw that 7.7'' but when will it come out..I could not wait..
I LOVE that amoled screen (after some time using P1000 than switch to My Galaxy S phone to do something.. only then I see that BIG diference between screens)
Anyway what is most important to me and if someone can answer me, as far as I can see this new tablet 7,7' will NOT have that she.t of nVidia Tegra..
So can I presume that new tablet it will support all video codec's as Tab P1000?
If it will I am definitely selling this (new one ) and geting 7.7..
Definitely gonna upgrade, but I dont think its gonna come out soon
and before that, I would love to taste the Ice Cream Sandwich 1st on the original tab
if the taste is good enough, i might prolong my tab life before upgrading since ICS is newer than honeycomb and prolly have better features too
I would never get an iPAD unless the incorporate some sort of cell phone capability, be it a remote device that belt clips with a display or actually on the ipad.
I love the SGT 7" that I have, it is perfect, for cell calls, and surfing the web. Think carefully, do you REALLY want to help the Apple machine make more money?
Does anyone know when it is coming out?
Actually when the last Galaxy tab 7 was released, could we buy it unlocked somewhere?
I ask because I need the new 7.7 to work with Bell. I already have a Bell 3g SIM card ready to go.
Thanks
If I could I would.
Once I have the money for the tab 7.7 ill definetley buy it.

Let's see, it's 7.7 so that's too big for a small tablet, won't fit in a pocket any more...
It runs Honeycomb rather than a phone version of android, I don't like honeycomb on larger tablets and surly its even worse on smaller screens... I have also yet to see an ambled screen that beats a common LCD (Galaxy Tab 7, iPhone 4, iPad all look much better than the Galaxy S 2 screen and it's supposed to be one of the best).
That means it can't replace my Galaxy Tab and it can't replace my iPad as it's smaller and would be missing some apps (mail and calendar for starters, android just can't compete with on that front IMO)...
So no, I won't be downgrading any of my current tablets
i like my galaxy tab 7 but im not sure if im going to invest in any more Samsung devices after they kinda wrote off this device as a red headed step child.
Ive put some thought into it and either the 7.7 or 8.9 would be nice i love the fact the 7 fits in my pocket. 7.7 has what i want and that's honey comb tables I'm a medical student and some of the apps like Google body are very useful.
So ya i think I'm gonna hop ship to 7.7 just hope there's a lot of good development on it get rid of that tw ux garbage
correction if http://sammyhub.com/2011/09/05/galaxy-tab-7-7-and-galaxy-note-pricing-for-scandinavian-countries/ is correct then no i will not be upgrading that's some insane pricing.
After using my tab as my phone for 12 months I've recently got myself a SGS2. I love the s2 and I really must disagree in regards to screen and picture quality. The S2 is far superior to my eyes. I miss my tab though, and have found it is used as a wifi device around my home as my primary portal to interwebs and the world! Its perfect and with the car kit set up in my kitchen (suction cup works well on my benchtop) it is extremely convenient and I love how connected I feel even when cooking breakfast! Its fantastic. The S2 is about to be violated and I'm hoping this'll breath new life into it but I can absolutely see myself going back to a tablet of around 7 or 8" and don't ever carry my 7" tab in my pocket so would lean towards the larger device... I would like to see a device that is a phone that goes inside a tablet that docks either @ your entertainment hub or in your car or both. The phone would be the primary CPU and such with each step providing supplementary hardware enhancing the GPU and CPU and memory extra. Or a more solid mirroring across devices.. its frustrating not being able to just put one device down and being able to continue seamlessly on another device.. its kinda exciting when you think how easy some of this would be with current tech.
I have more ideas.... but I've said too much already.. patents pending Nobleskill Inc.

I'll get the Galaxy Tab Plus, not the 7.7 one.
7.7'' is too large for my pockets and if a tab is not pocketable then it's useless to me. The Galaxy Tab Plus will have Android 3.2 and the same 7'' screen as the current tab. I'll stick to this form-factor forever (or just not upgrade my tab :-D).
Here's more info on the Tab Plus: http://thisismynext.com/2011/09/20/galaxy-tab-spotted-7-inch-honeycomb-tablet-t-mobile/
Dont think I will
I have been using the 7" for about six months and it satisfies everything I need. I can do my work on the go, remote some PC's that need fixing, surf, youtube and even gaming!!!
I don't think I will upgrade just for the sake of having a faster device as I haven't noticed any slowdown on this device.
The screen on this device I think is brighter than the s2 screen and clearer, maybe amoled is only for people with blue eyes!!!
Hi all. I'm looking to buy the Samsung Galaxy Tab S 10.5" tablet. Just needed a couple questions answered.
One... I notice in development that there is SM-T700, SM-T800, SM-T805 and so on. The one I'm buying says SM-T800. What's the difference between the others?
Two... My aunt got me an iPad Air but I never told her my hatred for Apple products. Would Best Buy take the iPad Air for money or exchange? I don't have the receipt. Just the box it came in.
Three... Is the Tab S the newest product by Samsung even though I see it was released last summer?
Four... I can't tell which product has had better reviews between the Tab Pro, Tab S and Note. Are more people on the Tab S than the other 2?
Five and last question... I bought the Note 4 a couple days ago and I have seen people talking about buying tablets that pair up better with what phone they have. Will the Tab S and Note 4 go together well?
Thanks for any insights.
1.) SM-T800 is your model (wifi version). The SMT805 is lte, Smt700 is the 8.4 tab s model and SMT705 is the 8.4 lte tab s.
2.) Probably not... Idk different stores have different things
3.) Its the newest. But the Tab S2 will be coming out this summer
4.) Less people I have seen on the tab s idk. Tab pro threads are kinda dead since the tab s release. Not sure about the tab note.
5.) I dont own a note 4 sorry. Side sync did work with the s5 so my guess is that it should work woth newer models. Best to ask bestbuy/samsung support for that.
Hope thos helps!

Thanks for your input. It helped a lot. I had to dig in more about if Best Buy would take the iPad. They will as long as iCloud Activation is disabled and everything wiped off. Doing that right now. They will give me $115 for it. I'll use that towards the Tab S 10.5" tablet.

I'm not a lover of Apple products either. But I'm betting you could sell the iPad Air for significantly more than Best Buy is offering. Assuming its the Air and not the Air 2, Apple is selling new 16 GB WiFi only models for $399.00.

Bet you could get at least $200 for it and possibly more on a private sale vs the trade in.

Yep its an Air. Not Air 2. Its exactly what I would do what you said. More money is better but the issue is I have only one day to do this. It would take a considerable amount of time trying to sell it for more.
I want to buy t700 or t800. Have 2 doubts: which screen is better , is there any significant difference? Second, I saw friends t700 , stock dpi is to bad for me- everything is too small. Which is stoch dpi on t700 and t800?
Thanks

I have Tab S 10.5 wifi and love it! Also, I have a Note 3 and it works very well with Sidesync for the Tab S.
Hey guys. Just reporting in that I bought the Tab S 10.5" tablet today. Got a great deal on it. Best Buy bought the iCrap iPad for $201. Only downside is the store didn't have any new Tab S in. They did have a used one that somebody bought and returned it the same day. I asked all kinds of questions why they brought it back. They never mentioned that the touch screen calibration was messed up. I found that out when I got home to sign into it. I did a simple factory/data reset and cache wipe and all is good. The Tab S is listed at $499 not including tax. This one was $349. I only paid $148 for it. There is no scratch and no issues with it at all. Guess the previous owner got fed up with the touch screen issue and returned it for an iPad. Oh well. Time to root it and try out ROMS and other stuff. I'm in love with it already!
As much as we hate iPad Air, I think most of us would have been more than happy to buy the iPad Air off you for more than $201 when we could easily resell it for double the price...
