Cheapest country in the world to buy gadgets - Off-topic

Just curious where one can buy the cheapest gadgets in the world. I'm talking about well known brands, not fakes or unknown crap. I'm also talking about buying outright, not on contract. I know this varies with exchange rates, so let's all give examples in the same currency... Let's say US$.
I'm from the UK, live in the Philippines but travel extensively with my job. I've generally found the cheapest places to be developed countries & UK in particular. I haven't been to the US for a while so I'm out of touch there. I know it used to be cheap (when the £ was strong). Philippines & India expensive! Example... I just bought my Galaxy Tab in Australia for $290. In Philippines & India, the cheapest I could find were around $450.

I would say Hong Kong or Thailand

Ah, yes... HK. Forgot about that. I've bought cameras from there in the past considerably cheaper than in UK. Although these days, I usually never leave the airport, which is not so cheap.

Places to go in HK are:
Mong Kok <-- getting a bit too touristy over the last few decades though
Sham Shui Po <-- for all you MP3, PC, DVD, Console needs.
Places to NEVER buy things in HK are:
Tsim Sha Tsui
HK island in general (although there are a few good places in Causeway Bay).

Topaz from Australia in Europe

Hi! I'm new on xda and I have a very important question.
I want to buy TOPAZ in Australia (by eBay) and I'm wondering if it will be working properly in Europe (Poland exactly).
Price is the main reason.
If you can, tell me also where you can buy (which country) cheapest, brand new TOPAZ
Peace!
i'm in Australia and bought mine from the UK as it was available there, but not here, and also it was cheaper there than would have been here (under AUD$800)
The UK version of the phone works just fine in Australia, so as long as Poland uses any of the frequency bands the Diamond2 supports, it'll be just fine.
i think that for me is cheaper to buy in Australia than in UK because of my currency. for 1 pound I must pay 5.3 polish zloty (PLN) and for 1 australian dollar only 2.6 PLN...if I want to buy in UK it should cost about 300pounds...do you know any good, trusted eshops?
Clove.co.uk is very trustable...
got mine from ebay:
cc-electronicshk
under $700AUD delivered including an 8gb memory card!!!
bewdiful mate
I've searched on ebay some fine offers and I think that Australian Dollar is the best option about price. However it's making another problem. CC Electronics doesn't ship to Europe...

which supplier are reliable? HONGKONG or China?

I searched on internet, and find many suppliers, some of them is in HONGKONG, and some in China. As far as I know hongkong is belong to China if i am not wrong.
Some claimed that they are in hongkong, but their website name includes China, like Chinabuye, Chinavasion, ePathChina etc. I like these sites. But I really have some concern to choose China supplier or Hongkong supplier, please advise if you know it. thank you!
Most probably, they buy their stock from mainland china (where prices are cheaper), import it into hongkong (Which has more relaxed laws on trade ect, because up till 1998 I think, it was a 'part of the UK') And then sell it on from Hongkong.
Allot of my photography equipment has been sold to me from hongkong based sellers and I've had no problems. You should be fine, as long as they are clearly a dodgie dealer lol
hongkong or china
Well, i had experience with both these country suppliers, so i dont find any difference as of countries, except for suppliers in same country. I usually buy from Chinabuye, they are from China, i find rates and quality are good. But Chinavasion i find the rate is costly, they are from China too. So it depends on suppliers, not on countries.
I bought a xbox 360 dvd drive from hong kong, no problem! Delivery was as listed. VERY happy with packaging.

I ordered some stuff from hong kong once from this site http://www.sw-box.com and where better than the original, shipping took only 10 days to israel
Yeah I've bought a bunch of different things from china/hong kong and never really had any problems except for lengthy customs delays ;D
Careful

Nexus 5 - Hong Kong

For anyone who cares the Nexus 5 is officially out in Hong Kong. Its being sold by LG, rather than Google. Price is around HK$3,800 - 3,900 depending on where you buy it. Big name retailers such as Broadway are selling it. Only the 16GB model is presently available.

Why is it HK always gets the low storage. First note 3, now this! Infuriating!!
Nice! I'm in Hong Kong right now, considering this (my Google Play order wont ship until November 8). Do you know if the International version will work on US networks and LTE bands, specifically T-Mobile?

no. LTE wont work in North Americia. But 3G will work of course.
Damn. I had a feeling LTE wouldn't but was holding out hope. Oh well, guess I'll have to play the patience game some more..
Hond Kong LTE use band 3, and the US version of Nexus does not support that.
But does anyone know on the UMTS 2100, is HSPA supported by the NEXUS 5?
wonder when nexus 5 32 gb will release in hong kong.. right now for that price its still a steal!
heard from wilson guy that around nov 20 there will be google play order available in hk, with price around HKD3200..
dont yell at me how ridiculous this may be.. im just repeating their words..
is this really possible (that google play order is coming to hk)?

HK Google Play store would be a very welcome development.
I think I am probably going to wait it out for around a month or two and hopefully the N5 price is drop a bit or at least a 32GB model will make its way to HK, otherwise seems the Oz store has the best value at the moment.
Fortress
Dear All,
I was at Fortress MK (MK New Century Mall) and they are selling it for $3,880.00. The guy says ONLY 16GB and I asked about 32GB and he said no. I don't believe him since he had to check 5 minutes to give me a price on the N5. Late Nov. HK PlayStore have it? I highly doubt it. I'm waiting till close to Christmas to buy it as the price will go down and retailers will have discounts.
if u go to "smaller" shops in mongkok/wanchai etc. the price is now in the range of 3700+..
Make sure..

Yes, parallel import will be cheaper in price but watch for what you get. Remember, US version (D820) won't work in HK for LTE. We have (D821) which is international version to work for Asia. I would stay with Fortress, Broadway etc. to be safe.

As long as the smaller shop confirms its HK stock and you can get local warranty through LG I don't see an issue buying through them.
Remember the D821 is also being sold in Australia where the price is actually quite comparable to the North American prices. But you won't get local LG warranty if you get that.
Was at Broadway Shatin on Friday, asked if 32gb was available, sales said usually Hong Kong only get one version.
Agreed that it is expensive to buy from them, if really available through Play Store at end of November then Ill be one of the first to buy from there!
Was just in WCC.
Asked two shops for price, one said HK$4.2k the other said HK$3.9k!!!!! Local stock.
Wasn't going to buy and was in a bit of a hurry so didn't ask around too many places or try and negotiate for price.

HK Airport Note5 Purchase?

I have a bit of an odd question. I need to pickup a Samsung SM9208 next week and am in HK for a 2.5 hour layover.... Not enough time to head into the city. However, does anyone know if one of the stores at the airport carry the 64 GB Model? I know that there are a few cellphone shops in the airport but was wondering if the 64 GB model was readily available in HK. Unfortunately, eBay isn't an option where I'm living and traveling too so window is likely all I can get to pick this up.
Thanks for all the help!

It doesnt get that detailed online. Best hurry and check Nobletime and a3 while you can.
Just so that you know if there is any problem with the Smartphone they will make you take it up with Samsung in Hong Kong. If there is any scratch on the smartphone they will not replace. The smallest scratch that you could imagine and they will only fix it. I believe the return policy in Hong Kong is 1 or 2 weeks by law. In Taiwan it is 1 week by law and after that it goes to repair shop.

Thanks for the heads up. I'll be taking it out of the country in less than an hour so I'm going to be stuck with this one way or another! I can't see a downside of using this over the US models. I live in Asia, travel a ton in Asia, Europe and have a T-Mobile US line that I want to keep in my phone all the time so I don't miss texts and calls while still using a "local" sim for data, etc.
I doubt HK Airport would have 64G as the rest of HK officially only has 32G models (silver and gold).

Typical Samsung HK. So many models they only bring in the base model. Had to pick up my Note 5 64GB in Taiwan.
If you do buy run it through *#0*# (General Test Mode) before handing over the cash. Not that I have ever had a Samsung phone with as much as a single dead pixel.
Good Luck.

I don't know my regions and I don't know if the HK version is region locked but if it has a region sticker on the box be sure to use an HK SIM card to activate and for your first five minute phone call on it so that you do not wind up being "region locked".
