Hello,
I have rooted my Galaxy Tab P1000 (Tmobile UK) through z4root. After rooting, I cannot connect it to Samsung Kies to check if an updated is available. I have tried all of the solutions mentioned on different forums (disable debugging, restore stock launcher, delete long files etc.) but it doesn't work.
The only reason I was wanting to connect it to Kies was to upgrade to Gingerbread. Is there any way to do it manually? There was procedures specified in different threads but they specifically rule out carrier locked tablets (I am presuming my Tab is carrier locked).
Thanks in advance.

What ever you read that said you couldnt because of carrier lock is complete bollocks.
I too have a Tmobile UK Tab and Ive been flashing custom roms since 30 mins of getting it home and upgraded to gingerbread first day there was a custom rom for it.
Just go here and please ffs READ the guide, If you don't you will mess something up or lose all your data etc and then come crying and get flamed for not reading in first place
Also, Gingerbread is only available in Italy, it is not available in UK, when it is it will be announced on the Samsung UK website, until then its not available at all in UK, end of.
PS. Remember to click thanks
Hi,
I am not interested in installing a custom rom, so if it is not yet available in the UK, I will wait.
Thanks.

My new SGS just got delivered today, bought it brand new from ebay, it is unlocked but from orange so there are a few orange bloatware apps like maps etc, not happy with these and want them gone but after trying kies it says my firmware cannot be updated (maybe due to being branded)?
Anyway just wondering which of the unofficial firmwares to flash from the samsung-firmwares website, I understand they come with certain files that may put phone into russian or make it so market does not work properly, some advice on this matter would be appreciated, I'm in UK if that helps. Cheers lads.
Oh and my current versions are
PDA I9000XXJF3
PHONE I9000XXJF3
CSC I9000RAJE5
Hi Davey,
I've just done mine for the first time tonight. I used firmware JG1, but used the CSC file suggested on the main thread firmware thread (cant do a link, forum wont let me).
A couple of notes - I originally tried using a front USB port on my machine and it stuck on file analysis. Worked better when I plugged it in round the back. Secondly, mine showed up on COM5 not 7 as in the guides but it seemed to make no difference.
Good luck!
Cheers pal, jsut wondering have you had any issues with the firmware you used? Russian language? Paid apps not showing up in market? Thanks.
No russian as long as you use the separate CSC firmware (CSC_I9000OXXJF9), and no other issues other than swype crashing the first time I tried to use (restarted the phone, problem solved).
Some apps arent showing up though in market, and I think a root is needed to fix it unfortunately. Not a big deal though - if you're willing to attempt the firmware, than I doubt rooting is a particularly big deal.
I'm in a similar position. T-Mobile UK, galaxy to arrive tomorrow.
I've seen several people complaining about lag on the phone until a firmware upgrade. Could someone point me to a post/website that gives a list of the latest firmwares and a step-by-step guide to installing them on the phone.
Thanks
same here, i have found a few rooting + firmware article from other websites / blogs.
however I only trust the guides from XDAdevelopers

http://www.samsung-firmwares.com (register, login and select "i9000" from the list, the firmware files and guides are on the same page, as are the links to dowload the required tools).
I am on UK T-Mobile and have followed these videos in the order listed and have had no problems doing so:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PpWcM44On88
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VzFE8-jWku0
The above is to update the firmware, the only thing I did that was not on the video was to use a different CSC file (Not the Russian one, I used CSC_I9000OXXJF9), doing it this way, I had no problems with using Swype as some have reported.
I then applied Paul's Custom ROM R2 from Modaco (Great Job) - the update roots the phone so you do not have to. It is all worth it as now my GPS, Wifi and speed all work wonderfully. the video of how to update the Custom Rom is here:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uakGtQKmHNM
Remember to restart the phone after updating the firmware and also after updating the Custom ROM. Also make sure that you have installed the latest version of Samsung's KIES software which contains the drivers needed for the SGS. Also if you carry out this part, make sure you copy the update.zip file to the internal memory card for update to work as it fails to read from the external one.
I did all this on a Notebook running Vista 32bit without any problems.
I have a bell i9000 (Canada) and my kies is still not letting me update to 2.2 and it is starting to piss me off.
I have flashed my old windows mobile phone before but I like the fact that this one ran well out of the box so I did not modify it a lot. I wish to now update to 2.2 either though kies spoofing or installing a custom rom and I wanted to check out the options I had.
1) is roms country locked or can you flash any country and just change location information.
2) What is the best kies version rom for me? I keep hearing a lot of bad rep from the most up to date from kies.
3) what is some or the best custom rom out there for me?
[Q] Kies "This version cannot be updated"; Telstra-Samsung Galaxy Tab 7in ABANDONED?
Hi Friends,
Last week I bought 2 Tabs (Currently at AUD 400 outright). Since playing & today I found that, in Kies it says "This version of device cannot be updated." [See attached image]
What does it mean? Telstra model is GT-P1000T. Does it means Samsung/Telstra will not issue updates/upgrades for GT-P1000T??
what if we upgrade unofficial ROMs? Does these models GT-P1000T/GT-P1000L/GT-P1000N/GT-P1000 have any hardware differences that can brick the tab?
I appreciate you feedback.
Thanks & Regards,

Just ROOTed & Clockwork Recovery installed..
It means the version of kies has a problem
Hi - Yes I have the same issue. I just upgraded to the latest version of Kies, and I have a Telstra Galaxy Tab, and get the same message "This version of the device cannot be updated"..
Keen to understand whether other ROMs are workable to upgrade the device past the JJ3 PDA, JJ3 Phone and JJ4 (Tel) CSC
You can update to overcome rom. I flashed my telstra tab the other week. Works fine!
+1 can apply custom ROM. FYI I also bought it for $400 3 days ago but checked today.. & telstra got it $299 out right online only price... no winning for me :-(
wich method did you use to get clockwork on the telstra tab
same in uk
+1 for the Galaxy Tab WiFi GT-P1010. The Kies program indicates that I have the latest and there are no options for OTA updates. The firmware & Android had better be able to be updated.
Wow. I got my tab for $899 from Telstra in December. Cant belive they are selling them outright for $299. fwiw these are the same network freq as the ATT tabs and they run custom firmware without a problem.
Sent from my GT-P1000 using XDA App
bought the tab from telstra on the 299 price tag. just installed kies on my windows pc and found that i have the same problem too.
Update: I got jmi via kies. If You are having issues try a custom rom at your own risk (jmi is way better than jj3)
I also have a Galaxy Tab, the P1000T. I have tried to root it so I could make a back up, but none of the rooting programs work. They go through the motions, but end result is nothing.
Correct me if I'm wrong, but to flash the device, with a 'unoffical' update, you need root access.
I don't want to brick the device, but I would like to update the OS/ROM.
Nowonmai, I have 2 Telstra p1000t's. You need to use super one click to root the tab. It's on the forum, do a search. Make sure to READ the instructions...
If you then decide to upgrade to Gingerbread, Follow the Instructions EXACTLY. I found the modem.bin in the [11.MAY.2011][ROM][GSM][2.3.3] ◄► Overcome ROM v2.0.0 BETA 2 ◄► GINGERBREAD!!! ◄► thread, the rest is in the [stock rom][2.3.3] p1000xxjq1 p1000xxjq1 p1000xxjpz thread...
Works a treat...

I searched for "super one click" and all I got back was "Super one hip", something about a bag for toting things for kids.
EDIT: I searched for it as superoneclick and located it. Sorry took a while for the caffeine to kick in.
did anyone find out how to upgrade to 2.3 on telstras galaxy tab??? please let me know. or post a link if already has been discussed in detail
Yep
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1073854
Works fine.
CSC can be changed after flash (I set mine to XEU)
Product code still ends in (TEL) though and same error from Kies about unable to update.
Otherwise works fine and lost crappy Telstra apps and boot splash.
All good!
Rooting not required.
Solved
hi i have the same problem too. but i found a solution. (Singapore Galaxy Tab owners - no need to go to service center))
1 first back up (very important)
2 check your region using *#272*IMEI# (mine is XSP Singapore)
3 then i change it to XTC (Philippines)
4 it will make factory reset
5 update you kies
6 plug it and ready to upgrade
7 after the upgrade you can return it back to the previous region (no. 2) (optional)
8 restore back up
9 download all your previous apps.
then enjoy..........
How do you check you region code ?
check your region using *#272*IMEI# (mine is XSP Singapore)
I cant type "IMEI" in the dialer ?
Sorry got it.... I inserted my IMEI number in that place and could get through.

I bought 2 SGT GT-P1000's. I wrote about a debacle I had purchasing them, as both said they were from U.K.-London addresses. Anyway, because they still had some Korean apps on the official Samsung Apps software, I sent them both in from the U.S.A. to Great Britain to have them "officially" put the correct English only software on them.
Long story short, got both back. One was updatable through KIES, one wasn't. They deleted all of the official U.K. apps that were originally on there(I guess they figured since I lived in the U.S.A., I didn't need or want them.
I had asked anyone before if there was anyway to get back what was officially originally on them as I too paid about $600.00 full price. I was able to flash both over to whatever rom I wanted and back to the stock Italy Gingerbread. But, yeah, it was weird that when they did come back(it was a long drama and took over 2 months-they were lost, sent to wrong service centre, etc., etc.
The reason I wanted the original software was because it allowed me to access the free $200.00 in software like the movies, music, ebooks, games that came with the purchase after I had registered them during their promo that Samsung had. They took that all off and when I go into the websites now, it says that I am not in an authorized network area-even if I change CSC or change time zone. So, I basically had downloaded them when I first had them and wanted to re-download my free stuff. Screwed yet again!
Does that mean if I change my location to UK or Sprint US, I can actually update the TAB throught the Kies provided by the local telecom operator?
Hi
I have a Galaxy Note bought from Handtec in the UK. They shipped me a Polish device. This Polish device has a CSC set to 'KOR'. The device is being used in the UK. The device is stuck on XXKJ4 2.3.5. I have no interest in either rooting the device, or trying out custom firmwares, but I do wish it to receive the official updates via either OTA or Kies.
From reading these forums, 'KOR' is not a valid CSC. So I use the *#272*Device IMEI# method to change the CSC. I select XEU as the new CSC which I believe to be for the UK where the phone is used.
I now get an OTA update which I download, but the phone refuses to flash it (tried several times). I try via Kies (downloaded from Samsung UK), it says "your device does not support software upgrading via Kies".
I wish to end up with a bog standard UK note at the end of the process, or at least something that will find/get the ICS update when it turns up.
Last time I order anything from Handtec. Updating a phone should not consume this much time, it never did on my iPhone. I love the Note, but need it to 'just work' due to a lack of time to muck about with it.
Can anyone offer a solution that does not involve ODIN, rooting, custom roms or any other non-Samsung provided solutions?
Kind Regards
Nigel (rather peeved with his Note!)
Just tried XEO (polish) CSC, and tried to update the phone again. Failed in the same way. Looks like I am going to have to send the pile of dung to Samsung and have them fix it up with a UK (English) ROM/CSC on my behalf. Kies still reports that it cant upgrade it either.
Waste of time
Rooting and flashing the latest stock ROM on my Handtec Note was rather simple and pain free. In the time you've already spent, you probably could've done it several times now with a time allotment added in for flashing ICS when it's released. LA4 was even a non-wipe ROM, so I didn't have to re-do all of my apps and settings.
And there are so many benefits to rooting, I don't see why anyone would go without. Full usage of Titanium Backup is in and of itself enough reason, let alone Ad-free Android, LBE Privacy Control, and several other great root only apps.
Well, I finally got it to flash by setting the CSC to DEU. It still would not update OTA, but at least Kies would finally see that it was an updatable device.
I used to spend many-a-happy hour fidding with my many WinMo phones and trying out various roms. These days I just need it to work (like my iPhone4 did!). That includes seamless major revision updates that see all my apps/config automagically put back on the phone after the update! It should not really be necessary to root a phone just so that you can do a full backup (incl settings) of it.
I love the note, its far more practical/versatile than my iPhone ever was, and the screen is superb.
Risk of a bricked device, too many custom firmwares, and custom firmwares that change every few days etc are the reasons I have not rooted/flashed with ODIN. I also do not know where to find a stock UK LA4 rom to flash to the device.
Due to the CSC being KOR, and having to change this, The phone wiped its self, that would have been the deal with or without root afaik.
The only stock UK rom listed on the sticky here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1424997 is UK carphone warehouse. Which I imagine means I would get all of their crud on the phone too.
Nigel
thanks
Hello,
in my company we are developing an android app. The lowest android version this app supports is android 4.3.
The company bought several testing devices including a AT&T branded Samsung Galaxy S4 Active. With Android 4.2.2 (Buid Number: JDQ39.I9295UCUAMF3)
I tried it for a while now, but I can't get the OTA Update to work. It says "Software update interrupted. Try again in 24 hours".
I can bypass the 24h lock by changing the date of the phone. But even after ~30 tries the phone is not updating.
There is no SIM Card in the phone. Is a AT&T SIM Card needed to update the device? I am not able to get one, because I am located in Germany.
Can I update the phone manually with Kies or something?
I don't have admin right on my machine so I need to know what to do, before I contact the admin to install a required software.
Could a blocked port be an issue? I do have access to the internet, but if Samsung (or AT&T) uses some non standard port, my company could be blocking it.
(Root is not an option.)
Kind regards
Cliff

Hi Cliff. I can't say for sure, but my guess is you can't access the OTA because you're not in the right region (someone correct me if I'm wrong). As far as I know, you shouldn't need a SIM to update, again could be wrong. More importantly, there are other ways to update. You could probably try Kies, but I wouldn't recommend it, it seems like users always have issues with Kies. I would strongly recommend you try updating the phone with Odin, a tool by Samsung that let's you change around your phone's firmware (among other things) when the phone is in download mode.
There is an exhaustive guide linked to here that thoroughly explains how to go from any version of android (official, for this phone) to any other version. In simpler terms, that link shows you how to manually update, which is what I think you're looking for. Also the files you'll need to download are located here. Hope I've helped, and good luck updating! :good:
Oh, just re-read your caveats: you almost certainly don't need a SIM for Odin to work, and you definitely don't need root either.

Thank you for your answer. Yes, maybe AT&T does region lock the update -.-
I've used Odin on my old Galaxy S2 some years ago.
I'll have a look into it and decide if this is the way to go.
Odin will do it as long as there are full install files for you to use.

You need an AT&T SIM card in the phone in order to install AT&T OTA updates. You can't use Kies to update because AT&T won't let Samsung post AT&T firmware on Kies. So your only option is to use Odin and the guide posted above.
