[Q] Wont boot - stuck on S screen - Galaxy S I9000 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I switched my phone on this morning and found it wouldn't boot beyond the S screen. I'm using a stock 2.2 rom downloaded via Kies some months back. It isn't rooted. The phone has been running perfectly until now. I tried 3 button recovery/download mode but these wont work. This is what happens:
1. Power on = the GT-I9000 screen
2. Animation and song
3. S logo screen - the S changes colour
4. One vibration signal
5. Three vibration signals
6. Black screen and occasional single vibration signal.
7. Both soft buttons remain lit.
Is there a way I can fix this to avoid having to send my phone away for two weeks?

Remove battery for an hour and try .
Download recovery jig from General pages .
jje

Thanks - will try these

If you are able to get it to download mode, just get the stock firmware files fron samfirmware and flash it through odin....i went through the exact same issue a few days ago....dont worry..you should be fine

I've tried it but it still doesn't work.

I had the exact same issue on my phone when i got it originally and then updated to 2.2.1. Via Kies.
About once a week when i switched it off at night, come morning it wouldnt boot up, had to go into recovery mode and reset factory settings every time which was a real pain. Eventually read up on here enough times to figure out how to use Odin and flashed stock FW and never seen the issue since. You need the 3 button combo to work however to do this.
On GB now and all good.

[Q] Phone won't boot or enter recovery mode, but download mode is working

Hi everybody, I've looked through lots of posts, but can't find one similar to my issue.
This morning I woke up my phone was off, and would not start at all. At first I thought the battery was dead, so I plugged it into charge. I've been charging it all morning, but the charging screen does not show the green battery icon, it in fact shows a totally grey icon, and cycles on and off when plugged in.
Also, more importantly, I can't get the phone started. When I press the power button, the Samsung spash screen shows up for about 3 seconds, and then the phone shuts off again.
I've tried to get into recovery mode (vol up + home + power), and the same thing happens as a normal boot: spash screen for 3 seconds and then power off.
However I can get into download mode (vol down + home + power) - I see the large yellow triangle and the phone stays on until I pull the battery.
So I have no idea what is wrong with my phone at the moment.
I have Eclair stock JG9, and have only done the SGS sim unlock, and the SBL flash from JH2 to get recovery + download from here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=785201
Now the SBL flash I did was not the current "aries" one, but the older first one titled "gt-i9000_sbl_rcvdl_fix_final.tar.md5" which I did back in September when it first came out, and I have never had any problems with my phone since then. Also, I have never rooted or flashed any other roms on the phone.
How do I get my phone working again? Any ideas? Could it be a bootloader problem?
Thanks so much for whatever help you can give me!
Hmmm. That icon you see is the phone telling you kernel or bootloader is screwed. I get it often from failed kernel updates. See if you can install jm8 and see. Reason i said jm8 is that its a known stable rom
If no good then im sorry but ya phone is stuffed

Thanks for the info. I tried to reflash my phone as the tech support people told me over the phone.
I couldn't get Kies to recognise it in download mode, so I used Odin with the ugjh2 pda/phone/csc, a 512 pit, and the repartition option set on. It didn't make any difference - phone still didn't boot. So I took it back to the Bell store, and they sent it out for repairs.
same problem
My phone has just done the same thing. I never flashed anything to it. It has JH2 directly from Bell (Canada).
The last thing I did was verify that I could enter recovery mode, that worked. Then I verified download mode, that worked also. It wouldn't exit download mode. I waited 10 minutes and finally pulled the battery. Now it won't boot.
plug in USB -> grey battery and blank screen, alternating every 5 seconds
Power up -> initial boot screen "Samsung Galaxy S GT-i9000m..." for 5 seconds and shuts itself off
enter recovery mode -> nope, get the initial boot screen as if I was just trying to power up
enter download mode -> yes, no problem
how did things turn out with your repair?
Just sent mine in for repairs also after reading this
POLL: Bell I9000M Internal SD Issues?
Apparently it is a dead/corrupted internal SD card. Only happens to Bell phones and can't be fixed by end user.
You can get it working on an external SD but you are limited to 2GB available and the internal remains unavailable. I got that far, could make calls, but my phone was still broken.
good luck

I'm still waiting for my phone to come back. The website says parts expected dec 1st, which is this Wednesday. Hopefully that means they'll fix it and send it back, and I may get it by early next week. We'll see what actually happens.

Hi,
I also have quite similar problem. Mine is Galaxy s from docomo, Japan and I tried several things to root and add some other stuff and suddenly my body went down to bootlooping. . . Oposit to "Yatta - - - !!"
I really don't ask any more features than standard model so just wanna get my body as it was.
Will keep watching here.

[Q] GALAXY S stuck for good?

For the last 2 weeks I was unable to upgrade to Froyo via Kies.
Today, after my patched KIES brings the 2.2 Froyo update, I started the process. It works fine downloading the new files, Kies switches to installing the update & the phone changes to a yellow fullscreen and KIES saying not to turn off during the update etc.
After 30 minutes nothing changes and i unplug the USB cable and the phone turns into a black screen with a PHONE to PC connection separated by a PINK TRIANGLE.
If someone could help and give an answer please leave a reply or a link to a tutorial.
The phone is working again..see the full story on the last post!
Now i am in download mode!!
i push the buttons randomly and now i have the yellow robot triangle!
You are back on download mode now. That's a good sign.
reflash to Eclair via ODIN first. Then flash to froyo.
Thanks for your reply!
but how could i simply restart the phone?
I just want to wait until the official update...
Unlikely you can, looks like your update process botched and the software on your phone isn't properly installed - you can't turn it on again.
I leave the phone in download mode at 11.PM and when i wake in the morning it was all black.
And now it is finaly stucked! the buttons didn't respond.
when i plug the charger the result is the same...black screen of death!

probably battery needs to be charged first.. ( wait 1-2 hours charger connected )
then try to go to Download more (Power Key + Menu + Volume Down)
start Odin v1.7
flash and Eclair ROM (2.1) JM8 for example..
then hopefully you can go back to Froyo..
In the end I succeed to repair my phone!
After three days of frenzy button-pushing I've managed to get into recovery mode.
I deleted all the data, wipe the cache, then I tried all variations of Odin flash that I found.
Finally, the version that works and pleased me was a stripped ECLAIR 2.1JM1. (tonight's 72 hours since I've never connected the USB or charger!).
Quadrant score is 975 (I did not need more on how it's work ...and Froyo is just a far desire).
After all the sufferings, i realize what it means to have a working SGS instead of a shiny brick!
PS, Thanks to all the good people who encourage me this week!

Try to flash with another firmware, I remember when I flashed to JM1 ( for testing purposes my download mode reverted to an older version and noticed that JM1 made a forced update ( rather downgrade ) on the Odin UI. I flashed to JM9 and I saw another message on Odin that my boot loader was updated.
how can i flash without the phone not booting up or go to download mode?

Can you still connect to pc? You can use adb command to go to download mode, that is you still have debugging mode on.
If everything fails, use the download jig, a thread started by TheBeano.
Good luck.

i tried using ADB, but phone is not recognized by the computer...
Build the jig, it shouldn't be too hard even if you've never touched a soldering iron.

[Q] Tab totally unresponsive.

I have a Verizon Galaxy Tab 7-inch with WiFi and 3G running Android 2.2 (Froyo). I mistaking tried to flash the new Android 2.3.3 before realizing it was only for GSM phones. I followed all the instructions using Odin3 (1.7) and everything looked like it worked except it never rebooted and I never got it into the Recovery Mode. I was still able to get in Download Mode so I tried to find a compatible 2.2 ROM to flash. I flashed the Roto JME rom, it didn't reboot. I flashed P1000NUBJM2_P1000NUBJM2_P1000NUUBJM2_HOME and it didn't work. Odin3 seemed to install these, I always got PASS. Now my Tab is totally unresponsive. Odin3 acts like it's installing but I can't get the Download Mode screen anymore. How do I get it back to factory or some working system? I don't expect to save anything I've loaded, I just want it to work again. HELP. Thanks.
P.S. If I can't fix this, who do I take it to to re-install the system? I got it from Verizon.
Can you get it into recovery mode? (Turn off, then Power + Volume UP)
No success
No, nothing I do will show anything on the display. I can't get into Recovery Mode or Download Mode. However, when I'm hooked to the computer and press the correct buttons to turn on/off or Download Mode, I hear the computer beep indicating it sees the USB and the yellow COM widget in Odin3 lights up and says it's up and in Download Mode. I can then flash it and it says PASS. I also just tried Heimdall and it also seemed to successfully flash the original Verizon SCH-I800_VZM firmware. Nothing displays when I try to go into Recovery Mode. I don't even see the picture of the battery when I plug it into the wall. Have I somehow trashed by screen?
Hi ! I got the same problem and now my Tab totally bricked...
Samsung just needs to give us the files and software to load these tabs back to stock! That would end the return issue for the carriers and let us unbrick them. Like any other device, there is a way to fix it without having to send it back.

strange problem with charging, bootloop, pls help

Hi,
I rooted my note some weeks ago and I was searching the web, reading all kind of threads and thinking what the problem might be for the last weeks. Finally I decided to register myself on xda and to post my problem.
Like mentioned before I rooted my note via CMW and then flashed a franco kernel, unfortunally I dont know which version, but no custom rom. It all worked fine for 14 maybe 16 hours, then the phone froze after opening a app and after that it stuck at the Galaxy Note N7000 logo. I tried to enter recovery but it didn't work, I can enter downloadmode but I ran out of battery before I could do anything.
Now the phone keeps turning itself on and off the whole time when I try to charge it, the battery image comes for like 1 second and after that the screen turns black again. The battery itself is new so that shouldnt be the problem. I charged it like that for like 4 hours and then tried to enter downloadmode but it only says "battery to low to download".
I hope it is not a hardware problem. If anybody has a idea please help me, I am getting desperate.

EDIT: I came from offical 4.0.4 ICS
How old is your phone? Try with another good battery.
Suggestion: you may flash gb via PC Odin and check phone back to normal.

I got my phone last april, so it is not even a year old, but I got a new battery some days before rooting it... I'll try/have to get another one anyway.
Could you give me a link for a stock gb rom please.
Thank you for your quick reply.
Kindly go thru Guru 'drketan' threads and posts.

Found it. Should I use a rom with three parts or with only one? And can I use any rom or one with a special "code" that suits my device, e.g. german....
And just flash the rom and then fullwipe or is wiping not necessary?
I am sorry for the questions but I want to do everything right.
You can use any. Wipe in GB recovery.
Thanks a lot.
Yesterday I finally found somebody to charge my battery, today I flashed a GB stock rom, but I still can`t get any further than the Samsung Galaxy Note logo... It worked one time but I turned the phone off to insert my sim card and it got stuck again.
I tried flashing with pit file and bootloader as well, but no luck.
Could it be a hardware problem? Could a J-tag repair fix it?
Thanks in advantage.

Now your on safe GB rom, enter recovery wipe cache, factory reset, wipe dalvick cache.
Let's know the result
I tried, but I am not able to enter recovery... I press volume up + home + power but I only get the N7000 logo. I have read that you have to press the home button in the right moment to enter stock recovery, could somebody tell if that is true and if yes when do I have to press?
Anyone an idea please? I can enter download mode but not recovery, I downgraded to gb 2.3.6.KK5, I flashed abyss 4.2 but I can get to recovery mode or past the GT N7000 logo. Three times it got to the "package installing" page and one time it even started then I switched it off to insert my sim card and again stuck at the N7000 logo.
I need help please...

You have to press the three button combo "a long time" and the power button should be the last one to use.
I always wait until the Samsung Logo appeared 2 times and I see the next animation (depends on your kernel/recovery).
So please try again and hold the three buttons longer.
I flashed the 3-part lc1 gb and did a full wipe. The phone now starts sometimes but gets stuck at the n7000 logo most of the time. When it starts the whole UI feels very laggy, eg. while typing. Recovery mode started one time out of 1000 tries. I am afraid that something with my hardware is wrong. Any ideas? Could a Jtag be a solution? Please help.
try again to get into recovery and do a factory reset from Gb recovery..
press it until you get to recovery. DO NOT remove your fingers when you see n7000 bootlogo. keep pressing . keep pressing. keep pressing.

I made it in the recovery, did another fullwipe, but it still lags while typing or opening/closing an app and still does not boot proper, I have to try several times to get past the logo screen and it works only when I go in downloadmode and boot from there. Entering the recoverymode still only works randomly. Any idea?
Edit: it also lags while scrolling down/up

In all you posts here you never wrote exactly what version of which Rom you installed in whatever way.
That's why I'm still not convinced that you have "defined state" and giving good advice is try&error.
So please start telling: how did you flash, what GB or ICS or JB version, Stock Rom or Custom Rom.
,Sorry, I flashed the n7000xxlc1 - open europe with odin PC, stock, prerooted and in 3 parts. After that I did a fullwipe, the phone turns on after a few tries, most time after I go in download mode and restart from there. It lags while it is on, like short freezes, I tried to install the OTA update to ICS but failed.
Before that I was stuck on the Samsung Galaxy Note logo after flashing a franco kernel via CWM (I am not sure which version but it came with the guide to root, so I thought it could not be bad)
Edit: I flashed the xxlsc 4.1.2 jelly bean offical leak via odin PC, and I still have the same problems. I takes 5-6 reboots to actually start the device and it is very laggy, almost unusable. Every second or so it freezes for short time.
Any help please? I would send it to someone to do a JTAG repair if this could help. I just dont want to waste the money, so if anyone has experienced a problem like this please help me.
Is this a brick revived phone?
