Android 2.4 for Galaxy Tab GT-P1000 - Galaxy Tab Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Guys did you hear about android 2.4 for Tab? Is this true? Share your knowledge guys. Thanks...
Sent from my GT-P1000 using XDA App

There is no 2.4 android version announced. The next version is Ice cream sandwich, which will probably have another number, like Android 4. (2.x is smartphone only (at least in google's mind), 3.x is tab only, 4 or another number will be for smartphone/tab merge.)
The next gingerbread version is 2.3.4 already released. Nothing is announced by samsung for a new firmware release yet.

Wont happen until a dev from here does it..

2.4 doesn't exist and never will
the unifying version of android is ice-cream sandwich which has the designation 3.1
EDIT: this is also not a thread appropriate for the dev section, take this kind of thread to general

I second this. I'm over these silly little threads in the dev section. IMO it really reflects badly on xda that it continues with no repercussions to these individuals who just east everyone's time with questions that are often not even worded politely ... share your knowledge? Seriously? Wthay to come in here like that?
Ill share for sure... Google is your new friend... continue like this and its prolly gonna be one of the few... around here anyway...

3.1 is the latest update to Honeycomb, the tablet-only OS. It's already out apparently. The "unifying" OS update Ice Cream Sandwich was always rumoured to be 2.4, though it could be 4.0 for all we know (or care). Agree though, this thread should be moved to Q/A.

3.1 is Honeycomb and the SDK has been out for over a week.
ICS will either be a new revision of v2 or v4.

Anyway, you cant say there wont be a 2.4 when you have no idea what the next phone firmware number will be. And as Athiest said, 3.1 is still Honeycomb so maybe you should use Google before you try and make a point.
@OP We probably wont see 2.3.4 for our Tabs unless Tech merges it into his CM7 port. I doubt we'll get any more major updates from Samsung any time soon, or at all.

Cm7 is 2.3.4
I also doubt anymore updates.
I allways say I think samsungs stance on the 7 inch tab is: ' take this horribly written adaptation of gingerbread and be happy some of you got any update.. Honeycomb? You want sweet ass new HC? HA! Tell ya what. Buy our new sweet ass device. We promise to adapt HC just as horribly as FROYO and GINGERBREAD. Oh, and have XDA have to step in and clean up after us. Plus we promise to rip apart the tabs gutts, and only give some countries full hardware. Piss off.'
You guys know that most 7' tabs are missing hardware, right? There are three versions with digital and analog tv's!

We'll shall see when something is released.
Really there isn't any reason we shouldn't be able to (we can run honeycomb and gingerbread). The better question is more what's the point :/ After 2.3, android seems to be getting flashier and more dependant on tougher hardware so there's probably not much point in it anyways.

This is not true, I have been following the honeycomb port since spacemoose first posted about it, there is no 3.2 port for the gtab7. As far as I've researched another Dev has stated that spacemoose has closed all threads retaining to hc has abandoned the project and past it on the the same Dev that claimed the abandoning. The same dev also states that since they do not own a gsm model they will not be finishing the gsm version but they will be slowly working on the unfinished cdma version. If this is incorrect please let me know, I want hc on my tab just as much aa the next person. I was using alpha 2.5 but too many broken things so I flashed to gb.

The project has been abandoned. The dev who said they may continue doesn't really seem interested in HC so it will likely never get finished now.

Exactly, we'll have to wait for a 3.2 port from the 7.7 or other device if it is ever released. Unless Google decides to release the full source code for HC

I don't think any version of honeycomb will have voice capabilities. due to the fact that HC is for tablets only. And since the 7.7 isnt out yet I don't think anyone can verify what it will and won't have from the factory besides speculation. Anything can change before they release the device. But my speculation is that the phone.apk will be left out, but sms should be possible.

This, so far Roms have always been faster and better updated than official updates.
I don't even want to think about how badly made an LG Official ICS Rom could be :S
I have the NS4G and my wife has an LG Optimus S...Terrible stock. Gotta get that thing rooted. LG roms are doodoo. Her phone hard reboots itself at least 3-4 times a week.
Our O2X is based on Tegra 2. It seems that most tablets that run Honeycomb are also based on the same SoC. And that ICS is a merger of GB and HC.
Also Google promised that ICS will be open to developers (HC is not)
What do I mean?
That there is a possibility that the community will be able to make a descend ICS for our phone, as they will have their hands on all ingredients.
For stock LGs ICS, I really doubt...
At this rate, probably not
Cough.. cm9.. cough
Cyanogen will 99.99% likely have it for the O2X eventually, they said at the android bbq that it will take them probably around 3-4 months after ICS release to get the first nightly out for any devices, and it won't be long after that for the O2X hopefully!
ya'll waiting for ice cream sandwich for the O2X?? im giving my O2X to my dad and in getting myself a nexus prime/galaxy nexus.
no more problems with updates.

[Q] Is JVT end of I9000 developement by Samsung?

Hello. That's our 17. month with our devices. I hear somewhere 18 months total for developing officaly. Do you think that's last rom for sgs? I guess that is. And no chance for ice cream by samsung. Because they don't want to work for a new touchwiz again for our old sgs. Just my idea. What do you think?
Read somewhere that samsung wanna bring ics to sgs too. Maybe its the end for gingerbread but not for the develop of sgs.

Impossible to say at the moment. It's been confirmed for the SGS2, but not the SGS (yet... ).

No,it's not. Samsung has very few good phones( 512mb ram,1gz minimum, single or dual core,3.7 inches or more),5 or 6, so it would be a good move to bring ics to those.

Thanks to Paul O'Brien over at MoDaCo we now have a full system+recovery dump of the Galaxy Nexus running Ice Cream Sandwich.

Wow, hopefully now developers can create ICS inspired custom roms. Cheers!
there's like 10 of these over at the dhd section lol

These are the files you need to port a device. They need to be altered severely to run on the incs. Extreme development knowledge is needed to make use of this. However a developer could grab bits and pieces from it if they have greater knowledge in one area than another.
The ics update will be coming to this and many other htc devices as stated yesterday to myself in a bell store by an htc rep.

Let me quote myself:
"Right now[...]"
You see? I'm talking about what they've said so far, but what'll happen in the future; sorry, I can't tell and therefore I won't do anything else then hope that HTC will give us an official update to 4.0.
But from what Google said when they showed 4.0, I think that it'll come to the IncS. Sometime.
And to your last part; no, they didn't.
"We’re continuing to assess our product portfolio, so stay tuned for more updates on device upgrades, timing and other details about HTC and Ice Cream Sandwich."
From the same link that I linked in my previous post. So, I'm fully aware of the fact that this only seems to be a preliminary statement from HTC.
