I have a GT-I9000 with stock ROM (& moded kernel, but the kernel is not the problem).
Today, my phone turned off while I was working and didn't paid him much attention.
Then I tried to turn it on, I waited some time and decited that it takes too much.
Then I opened it's back panel and removed the battery. after about 4 hours I charged the battery and turned on my phone.
That's where the problems begun!
The phone booted as ususal till it got to the lock screen, but then it vibrated (the app crash vibration), I unlocked and then ALL of my apps crushed one after another, about 50 apps one by one even though I just turned on my device.
In addition, I've been asked by the device for some info, such as my facebook loggin details, and wifi/3G settings.
Every time I try to use a crashed app, it crashes again.
In my notifications bar, the "noteeverything" app tells me that the Datavase is unreadable and GO Louncher keeps crashing time and time again.
Any1 knows what happens and what should I do?
If formatting the flash is the only way, might I save my apps and their data?
Please help me save my PICTURES!!! ><
Thanks in advance
i would suggest trying to uninstall go launcher, sounds like that's where the problem begins
if it doesn't help you might have to flash your phone, also you should try to save your stuff via Kies if it still is recognized by it
good luck mate
I don't know what you have stored on the actual phone, but I'd try everything to pull what you can off, uless you have recent backups... which you should. One thing I've learnt with smartphones is backup backup backup. I lost my calendar through similar circumstance to you, phone froze, i rebooted it and calendar would always crash... had to reset it =(
Worse to worse, you'll probably have to do a factory reset on it. This only resets all your apps, contacts, sms etc etc... basically anything stored on main phone memory. All data on your internal SD card will be safe... this means your photo's.
If you have kept all your data backed up through google (contacts, calendar etc) then you'll have almost no issue. It'll all restore itself after you wipe and setup your account again.
Flash with Odin. Pictures on internal SD are safe.

Thank you very much, I'll do that.
Though if I flash, maybe I should have something better then my current 2.2 version.
Any1 knows what CM7 nightly (if at all) I should install so I will be able to do my basic staff? (phone calls, Wi-Fi, 3G, camera, and the basics).

After updating Froyo in India. Here are the list of issues that I face.
1) It keeps on crashing .. Sometimes for no reason whatsoever. a Little 'Vibrate.. Pause.. Pause.. Vibrate.. Vibrate'.. And it almost reboots itself.
2) I am having strange issues with the EDGE. I am on Airtel 2 GB plan. Had no issues on Eclair. However with Froyo i keep on getting web page unavailable message. I have to go in Network Data settings and Uncheck.. and Check it to get it working again. STRANGE..
3) If trying to open some flash base content then also it reboots itself.
4) Initially the phone felt very zippy for a few days. However lately i have been experiencing lag. Again.. The Apps do open pretty quickly however there is lag in Contacts, Contact Search, Logs, And "Sweep Right To Call" options. Pretty frustrating. I feel this might go away wid the TW Launcher change.
Well this is a known issue when upgrading from enclair.
Do a backup on you apps and all you important stuff to a external sdcard.
Then do a factory reset.
Wipe the catch and format the internal sdcard.
Then the phone should work fine.
Then put the apps back.
DON'T restore any system data.
This will wipe all your data on the phone. So make sure you do have a backup or it will be much work for you.

You will have to do a hard reset. Dont worry about the paid apps since they are linked to your google account. Vibrate pause vibrate vibrate is an indication of some app force closing. Using airtel 2gb but no probs on that account.

now when i have tried to take backup through kies. more problems.. kies is recognizing my phone but failed to take back up..
any suggestions ?
rahulshanu youre not alone... created this thread the day I upgraded to 2.2 http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=866927
Im getting the same issues you seem to have but also slow game and UI response. This weekend i'll be trying anything to get my phone back to a reasonable state after the naffed firmware upgrade.
I'll be plug the phone in via USB to copy pictures ect. Contacts are held on gmail for me so not an issue. you might be able to do the same and forget kies. As for apps.. I have them all on laptop as I came from a G1 so dont mind losing them on the phone.
Purg,
it is really surprising that i was able to take the back up of contacts...and can still take the back up of videos, pictures & music .but cant take back up of messages.
When I contacted the samsung indain on twitter ..they have suggested for hard reset.
Galaxy S is a perfect example of blend of some amazing and disappointing technologies..
Don't use kies to make backup.
Use titanium backup.
The problem with upgrade from enclair to froyo is the lack of information on what it means.
You do change the os in the phone.
Its not a little upgrade.
You can see it like going from windows xp to windows 7.
You got many things that don't work in the new system.
The best is to start from scratch.
I run jpu firmware now and it very easy to say its the best phone now. Both hardware and software works from stock. This is how the phone should have been from the start.

Hello,
for a few days now i have something strange going on with my galaxy s. When i reboot the device, somewhere around the moment you can enter the pincode for the sim, the phone shakes one time first and and then two times as if there is something crashing.
After that all seems to be working fine... That is, until i notice up to two times now, an app went missing, from which i can't remember i removed it. After i reinstall the app, all settings i configured before for that app where there in place...
I am not sure if these two issues have something to do with each other...
I am running the stock Froyo rom 2.2.1 with the speedmod kernel (k12t)...
Is there someone out there who has an idea?
Thanks in advance.
Regards,
Mart
Did you recently change to the froyo 2.2.1 rom, and did problems only occur after changing?
Did you do a full wipe when changing?
Thanks you for the reply...
well no, i am running the 2.2.1 for a few weeks... As far as i am able to point to the moment it started it was just after i removed the battery when the phone was locked (i mistakenly thought it was off). After i placed back the battery and started the phone, i started noticing the possible crashing...
A day or 2 later i noticed an app was lost, the icon was still on the desktop, but it was a green android (like that from the market) and won't start. Because i didn't remember removing the app i looks strange to me. After reinstalling the app all settings i configured before where in place, as if wasn't gone for a while... That's why i notice it, because when i remove an app, i normally make sure everything is removed including settings...
Up until now i have found two of these in a strange way lost apps...
Because there was some time between the removing of the battery with the start of the first issue and noticing these lost apps, i am not really sure they are connected...
It seems that you have any kind of data corruption. If the phone shakes 1 and then 3 times, it is saying that some process has stopped. Also if you lost some app without your intervention... looks like I said. Consider backup your data, wipe and reinstall.
Good luck
this seems to be happenning very ofthwn for my phone, and it hasn't disappeared even with using a different ROM or kernel.
I'm on tweaky's 2.3.5 JVS now, and I sometimes when I am in dialer and I type in 3 numbers, it just closes itself and shoots me back to the homescreen. it keeps doing that, and I'm unable to dial out because of this, until after a while and it irritates me to no end.
this also seemingly happens with me using whatsapp or Viber, where when I want to reply a message, after whatsapp has loaded up, it shoots me back to the home screen.
now, I've tries to get rid of my task killers, and saw no changes whatsoever, so can someone enlighten me on what's going on, and how to rectify this????
You say you did try a couple of roms, have you performed a factory reset or re-partition when flashing the roms?
Yes I did, all the time with Odin... Happenned with Darky, symply, simplicity, all of them
I wipe data and factory reset, even format the storage.
I'm not sure but as you said you've tried to change both rom and kernal yet there seems to be some sort of constant.
Are you backing up your apps accounts data etc and then restoring data? or the apps themselves? Because this can cause in-compatibilities.
If you do then start from scratch install only apps but only from market and one by one. Try play around half a day or something (or if you know a definite trigger see if it happens) if nothing then install another of your old apps.
Also have you tried installing no apps just use those that came with the rom. If it still happens after everything has been wiped (cache, dalvik cache, repartition, format sd, no external sd) then im inclined to say its hardware... When did this start happening?
Hi, thanks for the reply.
I back up my applications using Appmonster, and this retains just the program itself, I reset everything back to how it was after I wipe.
I'm not sure, I tried to think on whether its an issue with like lacking of ram or something, because SOMETIMES it behaves after I kill of some apps and free up some RAM.
I also thought it might have been a task manager which is doing it but uninstalled that and nothing changed.
I tried to install the programs slowly and individuality and it was a VERY slow and painful process, and it got me really nowhere, as like after i uninstalled and backtracked it still happenned.
I was wondering to myself if it was app incompatibility, as I have a relatively large list of apps installed.
It doesn't seem to do it if its fresh, so I'm not too sure myself.
Any ideas per se? Maybe a list of my installed apps? IDK I'm trying to find a solution to this.
At this rate I'm tempted to get a new phone
No harm in sharing the list of apps I guess, maybe someone more knowledgeable can give you a hand with that info.
Okay, But are there known apps that do this to the system? doesn't seem to happen for games but for Dialer and Whatsapp and Viber.
Everything else just works peach.
I just realised it might take more than a while, perhaps I will try a slow install of only the absolute necessities then.
I'm just wondering if I'm the only one who's encountering this issue. I'll try a week of the basics soon.
Thanks anw. :3

It happened to me too.
I am also seeking the reason.
But the latest ROM Gingerreal v7.14 was okay..
That's really strange then.
Perhaps its the combination of apps... I don't know, I'll try getting rid of the unnecessary and see if it'll cause the same issues.

Hi,
I have been using Team ICSSGS RC3.1 for a long time now, didnt really feel the need to migrate to RC4.2 etc. Today, I suddenly started getting "Low messaging memory" errors saying an incoming message was rejected. The fone started lagging, and many apps started crashing. finally i reboot-ed my fone, hoping it would get better, but its now stuck in a boot-loop with the ICS boot animation.
I havent taken any titanium-backup in a long time, so afraid of losing all my messages. Any fix for this..please suggest!
TIA
Hi, can you boot in to recovery mod with 3 button combo?
vol down + Home + pwr
OK, since you're now bootlooping the solution will take more time... you should go to recovery, wipe everything and reinstall rom.

Also..for future reference..is there a way i can sync my SMSes in the cloud..just like i sync contacts with my google account!
Thanks.

low memory and backup SMS
Hi!
i've lived just a couple of days ago exactly the same situation: low memory error comin up about every day >> annoying lag (RC3.1 since.. well when it was published)
so i downloaded the 4.2, hoping in this new release the memory usage was fixed.
the phone was badly lagging, when i connected through USB to download a couple of pictures from apps like whatsapp ecc (not synced with google): suddenly the phone rebooted by himself and started to do that LSD-trip on start
i solved it this way, simply: 3-buttons, install from zip (the RC4.2 on the external microSD) and it started working again, with all my data and apps as nothing happened.. i have to say, it's a bit slower, but i want to figure it out this weekend, after backing up photo/video/mp3 i'll do a wipe and a fresh install.. just to be sure that the previous situation won't mess up with the new one.
To back up SMSs i found months ago the BEST APP to do that (imho):
SMS Backup+ (the icon is a green bubble comin out from a small Gmail)
It syncs all your SMSs (with a schedule, choosing under wifi coverage and some other useful options) with your google mail, so you can always find them simply as if they are mails! the app creates its own folder in gmail and dont mix them with the mails in the inbox.. look, i sleep like a baby since i have this app..
If u keep all other stuff synced with google, SMSs with this app and other apps with related services, you can change a device every day without losing anything
i hope this will be useful for everyone who had these problems
cheer
Ok, this is getting really, really annoying because i have to wipe data every 1-2 days, luckly i have Titanium Backup...but i can't keep doing this forever!
The issue started using Eclipse ROM, i was using Holo Locker, and one day the phone refused to unlock...i clicked every bloody button on the phone, i tried everything, and i got something only plugging it to a PC... the screen turned on, and what i saw was disheartening: The wallpaper was gone, it was black, and the touchscreen wasn't working...rubbing here and there i managed to make the touch working and managed to unlock the screen...but it didn't unlocked it just stayed...black! Totally surrended to my phone, i wiped everything and patiently i reinstalled some apps... and then it happened again! I initially thought that the issue was caused by Holo Locker, but i was wrong because stock locker was stuck too..but it was messed up, with some elements shifted a little lower...and this time, it didn't unlock!
As of now, i tried this with 3-4 Gingerbread ROMS, SBF'd 2 times, and nothing changed...sometimes, it just freezes...here are my guesses:
- Something messed up with phone itself (dunno what could be, maybe something that didn't get involved in flashing ROMs and SBFing?)
- Something stored into Google Backup (probably, it's this too, because i noticed that if i choose to put backups on the phone, at startup, it freezes after a very few minutes)
- It's something involved with the kernel, because it doesn't happen (for what i tried, it didn't) on ICS/JB ROMs
- I thought it was launcher's fault, but i tried multiiple launchers and it didn't worked anyway so...
Any guesses guys?
This doesn't happen to me, so I'd say it's either the phone or perhaps it's one of your apps. An interesting experiment would be to run the phone stock (i.e., install no apps, do not restore from Google during setup, though Google calendar, contacts, Google+, GMai, etc., sync should be ok) and see if you can get past where you usually see this happening. If so, then it's probably one or more of your apps. So, at that point, rank your apps from most to least important, and then install them in batches of 5 or so apps. If the freezing happens again, then maybe you narrow it down to one of those 5 apps.
Which SBF have you been using?

Yep, already done this, i ran the phone as stock, but nothing happened, now i flashed once again minimoto, AND restored from google account, and used the titanium backup from earlier...as of now nothing happened...i'll wait...
Thak you anyway
Ok, if anyone could ever have this problem, probably the issue was caused by the application "Wallpaper Changer" that i used to switch wallpaper every 2 hours...it probably got stuck somewhere and freezed the phone...as of now, it didn't freezed yet so i think i found the solution.
