Change icon - HD2 Android Themes and Apps

Hi,
how do I change the icons in the menu? I want to put your icons there
thanks

I think it's at a folder called framework or something and then res/hdpi... You should use Root Explorer to do that because you need to access the internal memory of your device.
But I'm not sure, I'm not a themer. There are some tutorials here at XDA where you can find more information about that, with a lot of details. Some people have already made a few good jobs to teach us. I haven't tried those out yet due to my short free time but I'm sure that with a little search around the forums you can get all the infos you need to theme.
Good luck!

Have you tried a different launcher like ADW Launcher or Launcher Pro? They are customizable, there are themed supported. Take a look into that.

[Q] Metamorph custom icon theme on MIUI rom?

I've been searching around and have only found one guide on creating a custom icon metamorph theme, it doesn't seem too bad. Thy only problem is it only said you can only morph app icons in system/app so since those are only rom apps, is there a way to change the icons on downloaded apps? I'm not sure where they are located but can you just move the apk and odex files for the downloaded apps to system/app and be able to morph them?
I'm using the MIUI rom but hate the way it puts the purple rounded box around icons, I'd like to be able to change the icon to a larger size that fills up the entire box.
Thanks in advance for any help or guidance

Thanks for linking us to the pack - now we can all use it
P.S., There should be a new rule in xda. If you post an awesome homescreen or say you found an enormous theme pack, you must link to the wallpaper, theme and all widgets - otherwise you are just teasing us.

[Q]Changing notification bar

Is it possible to change the notification bar and/or its icons on a sense rom? Something similar to like CM7. I have read that Metamorph can be used to achieve this but I have no idea where to find its themes.
I am running Android Revolution+ no sense mod thus I have no access to the themes option in sense.
Any help would be appreciated regarding this matter.
I'm interested too
Found it my self, use UOT Kitchen and cook something delicious
Weok there are quite a few topics on this topic. But to give a little help.
First of all you can use uot kitchenhttp://uot.dakra.lt/
Or you can change the framework-res.apk yourself. Just decompile edit and recompile it again.
For both ways you need to be rooted.

An home-launcher it's an android app, so you would have to know java pretty well.
Usually it's much easier to make your own theme, but it depends on the home-launcher app you're using. Surely searching on google will give you the answer. Type something like "create theme" and your home-launcher app name. Hope this helped you out...
Thank you Ill do some research

if you want to create a custom theme for go launcher then use go launcher because go dev team gives a free software which will let you create your own theme for free it will need Java installed it is called go theme factory

Android Home/UI replacement

Hi guys,
Hope all of you are well.
So I'm back after a two year break from iOs to Android.
As I was browsing through the internet and try to look if there are any new alternatives to sweeter home I really couldn't get wiser out of all the information. So before I will start building themes again I was wondering if anyone knows what the top theme alternative apps for the moment are (2012-2013) and would like to share that with me.
In the past I have made some themes on sweeter home like these:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nOIopL7bbi4
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0QOCowHO65c
But that was in the very beginning of the mobile Android platform and there were not many options to customizing your home screen.
So hereby my humble request to some information in the right direction.
With kind regards,
DizzyDix

Great news
Wow guys,
This is wonderful, thank you all for the input.
I think you have helped me a long way now with all this info.
I was really stunned by the uccw app, because of its possibilities.
But I will surely check out all apps.
I was kind of disappointed yesterday when I found out my S3 has no scrolling wallpaper function, so they force me again to make my own UI.
And because I dont like using ROM's I rather work with a launcher app/home screen replacement.
While browsing I have seen many good functional and good looking themes, so it is really a challenge for me to bring something out.
First I will play around with android and hopefully start theme'ing after a while.
Wish you all a good day.
Cheers
Dizzy

Launcher/ Home replacement
Hi all,
There has been some mix up, I think because of me.
I get a lot of input from you guys and that is totally cool, never expected that but your info is by far great nice to see the xda community being so helpful.
The mixup:
I don't think I am looking for a "launcher app".
I'm looking for a skin app which lets me change every aspect of the android UI, in this case TouchWiz.
So let's say we have Touchwiz with bottom bar where the apps icon always is outlined on the right and we have the home screen with the status bar etc.
What I want to do is: replace all elements of the TouchWiz. So for example that my homescreen will look like the Mac Os Lion interface on a mac or like the Windows 8 interface on a laptop.
The only app which lets me do that (that I know of) is SweeterHome, but I can't find sweeterhome in the market anymore and Beta 2.0 has bugs.
So then I was informed about:
UCCW
Apex
Nova
Home
iHome
aHome
SPB
LIghting launcher with uccw (that is totally not what I am looking for as I am designing my own theme so I dont want to use someones theme as a consumer but use an app that lets me build a new UI on the android OS.)
Ss launcher
holo launcher
zooper widget (not looking for a widget shell, but thanks for the input)
So, the most important question:
Is there an app that can do the same as SweeterHome?
Im looking forward to hearing from you guys,
Regards,
Dizzy

Hey Bud, thanks for your reply.. but I dont think you understood my message..
I am not looking for someone's theme.
I make themes.
Thanks though..
Unless I'm mistaken it sounds like you're looking for something that would completely change the visual aspects of android ui such as the status bar, menus pop ups and things of that nature afaik the only thing similar to that requires you to be rooted and running custom roms, which has the theme manager and allows you to theme to entire system and framework of android, if your looking for only third party apps available in the market that are themeable I believe super status bar comes with a theme engine as well as omega status bar (for the status bar) however they don't perform very well, and many custom launchers such as apex and nova allows for custom icons and icon packs as well as docks etc... However most themeing will require root as well as a custom roms like CM or PA (paranoid android) or aokp which all have the theme engine included.
Just a side note the theme engine included in these roms are based off the tmobile theme engine and cannot be used as a standalone app

Sorry for the double post, just wanted to let you know there are third party apps that you can use in place of rooting however none will be as effective or theme as thoroughly as using the theme engine. Here's a list of some apps that might do what you need
Widget locker (for lock screen)
Super Status Bar (for status bar)
Go Launcher Pro (for home screen and launcher) not much experience with this but it seems pretty thorough in its themeing capabilities
Hopefully these can be viable alternatives for you ill add more if I think of any or of you have any other questions lemme know

+1 to what he said ^^^^ very detailed. But here is my shorter version, look into how to make a "Theme Choser" (or Theme Engine) theme, that is the most complete way to change how your phone look. Another alternative would be MIUI ROM, which is extremely customizable and dynamic when it comes to theming capability. Hope it helps

Yesss!!!
Kagedin, thank you you've just answered more questions than I needed.
I was not sure if I needed to root but this confirms it. I got very noob at the moment because of the breakaway of 2 years from android so sorry for the complex questions.
But your answer confirms that I need root. And I also came to know that if you want to make an Apex theme... these days its done on your desktop through Python or etc.
Things has changed a lot since the beginning of Android, back then it was root into your phone, take aspects of the UI, redesign them on your desktop and place them back into their original folder on the phone and you where good to go.
I will go with Widget locker, Super Status Bar, Go Launcher Pro and Apex for the moment but first of all root.
BIG THANK YOU!

Where are icons located?

Does anyone know the directory/folder where the "app drawer" icon is located? I plan to modify/change the icon to match the rest of my icons and theme. I dont want to use a launcher I just would like to locate the file so that if possible, I can change it manually.

Yeah, I know, it seems like they really didn't want that app drawer icon messed with. But now that I think about it , I may be completely wrong. It may not even be an icon at all but maybe something more like a widget.

As far as im concerned everything is "changable" on the phone, its just a matter of how far your willing to go to change it. One way or another I will get all my icons to match, including the app drawer icon, and i'll be sure to post how i did it here.

Have you tried this app? https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.jy.iconchanger.ad I think it may work for icons one by one, I think I've read about people using it for the app drawer icon. For applying icon packs system wide, the Xposed module Unicon is great for that. Especially the beta version, it has the ability to use icons from multiple packs using the custom icon assignment feature. Theming the app drawer icon is also a plan for the future, just currently not available.

Thanks for the info, I like the app. I just flashed a new ROM so I'll be making use of it here soon. And theming the app drawer icon would be a great addition to the xposed module. Right now to get the look I want (all icons being same shape and size) I have to switch between themes that use either a round appdrawer icon or a square one. And then have to have all round icons or all square icons otherwise the appdrawer icon sticks out like a sore thumb. But the app you referred helps to find matching icons, thank you. I'll check out the xposed module too, probably tomorrow.

I'm thinking now that the app drawer icon is actually part of the theme more so then an actual icon. Could be wrong but would explain why there is no actual icon anywhere.

I'd think the themes for the LG launcher work similar to Nova launcher themes. Skinning images in the LG launchers res folder. If you browse through the LG launcher apk you should see a res folder, with other folders inside. Somewhere there would be a app drawer icon. Usually to replace that, you have to use something like apk tool to decompile the launcher apk, change the launcher icon to whatever you want and recompile and install the apk, or go through the same method with a launcher theme. Decompiling it and so on. Which might be a little easier. I've never browsed through the LG launcher, but that's how it works on other launchers usually. The icon changer app would be a far easier approach if it actually works. But I'm not 100% sure it will since I haven't actually tried it.

That information is very much appreciated. That is exactly the info I've been looking for. I just came over to android from iOS so I'm still getting familiar with everything. I run Linux on my PC though so I'm picking it up quick. Anyways thanks again for the info.
Icons are not stored in the system. They are pulled from the apk files and then listed in the app drawer. This is all done via the XML and java files in the system.apk and then the application.apk. There isnt a way to just swap out a icon unless you use a modding app or you decompile the apk and rebuild with a new icon. If you want a perm way of change the icon, you can pull the apk from your phone and then open it with 7zip, and then just replace the icons in the /res.drawable-* folder. Other then that you need a modding app
The app drawer icon was the only icon I was having trouble figuring out how to customize. I really appreciate the information you provided already but do you happen to have information pertaining to the app drawer icon itself?
