[Q] wifi over adhoc network - HTC Incredible S

Has anyone succesfully established connection to his/hers windows 7 ultimate adhoc network? I'm trying to add my adhoc network to my IS but I can't find it when the phone scans for wireless networks, and when I try to manually add it it says "not in range" is there anything I can do to make it compatible with my win 7 machine :/

as far as i know, android out-of-box phone does not detect ad-hoc network, you will need to root and modify the wifi or something like that( forgot where i read it)

Nope

Ad-hoc mode is not supported (No out of box support) . It supports only wi-fi Hotspots . Rooting your phone will help you to get Ad-Hoc support
Tried Ad-Hoc Mode in windows 7 , Xp , Ubuntu 11.04 . None worked.

Thanks for the quick replies.. sadly enough I'm not willing to void my guarantee just yet

You can use software called connectify to create compatible hotspot. But you also gotta set up static ip for the phone manually.

Virtuous Unity 1.31 added support for ad-hoc wifi. I've never used ad-hoc wifi before but I remember seeing ad-hoc wifi name with Wifi Analyzer, so maybe it indeed works.

Looking for an official 2.1 build rom that...

...is mostly stock except includes everything you need for wireless tethering to work, and maybe the occasional battery life tweak which doesn't sacrifice a ton of functionality. Any ideas which would be ideal for that?
bueller? bueller?
WiFi teether only requires root to work, nothing else needs to be added to a rom. Find SpintUpdate2.zip and then download WiFi tether from code.google.com you can google search for "Android WiFi Tether" and its the first result. I use v1.6.
I am not sure if SprintUpdate2.zip has SuperUser Whitelist, but if you don't see it in the list of apps, just download it from the market.
Also make sure USB Bebuggin is turned on and that Install Apps from Unknown Sources is on.

wifi tether also needs a netfilter enabled kernel though. As far as I can tell the damageless leaked rom doesn't have that.

The official page disagrees: http://code.google.com/p/android-wifi-tether/
This application requires a "rooted"-device and a custom-kernel which supports netfilter (iptables)!

[Q] ICS Stuner Rom v. 5.0 Questions / Bugs!!!!!!

Hi there....
I´m currently using ICS Stunner v.5 coming from the repack and then 4.5 and then 5.0 i think is far better and superior to Imilkas
everything works as promissed and does a pretty nifty job on all aspects and the customization of this rom is simply lovely,...... although i dont know if its because im a noob and i dont know how to enable them or make them work so this is where i need a little bit of help!!!!!!
1st - I dont know how to enable the MTP connection of the previous GB rom i need this since my security policies on my work computer are being override by this type of connection.
2nd - I dont know how to make the Wifi direct option work correctly it does appear to me on the menu but doesnt bring anything new or work or is being recognized by any other phone whith this capability.
3rd - The Spen is not working (not the pen but the built in features that it previously had.) i know that this is not supported by the rom but maybe the Gurus or android gods in this forum might be able to help me with any solution.
4th - this is the most important thing that i have noticed.... the USB transfer rate is awfully slow from what it used to be with or without the USB debbuging option the most that i can get with big medium or small file sizes is nothing more than 2.5 Mbps if lucky and previously i was achieving arround 8 - 10 Mbps
if you have a solution or Idea or want to help me please share your thoughts or send me a PM
thanks a lot!!!!!!

I think there is no MTP connection on ICS roms. There is just USB connection to transfer files. Just connect your phone to your pc, drag down the notification bar and select the USB mounting notification.

Unfortunately there is no solution for it until Samsung releases the offical ICS rom, so we can build roms on this base.

I don't think that you can fix this. Maybe you can try mounting the sd card via cwm and try to copy files on it.

If you have posted the apk of a paid app then that is warez which is NOT allowed on xda forums. You are ripping off the work of developers if you just post sh*t without permission.
The freeware, open source and free, solution is "Android Reverse Tethering 2.30".
That program has a client (apk on phone) and server (program for windows) which allows you to surf the web while connected to ur PC.
EDIT: Works for OFFICIAL LG GB and Froyo but not Zeus (i have tried!!!!!)
@FunkyGanja
Official GB has USB tethering option? I don't rembember. If yes than it would be nice to have it in Zeus...
You can also find it in cm7. Go to settings--> wifi --> hotspot. There is a setting to do it. I think it should also be there in zeus rom...

USB tethering is totally dependant on the ROM and LG doesn't natively support it in any of their OB roms. It is one of the things (like HDMI output) that LG hasn't built into our phones.
HTC natively supports USB tethering in SOME of their phones but other than that I'm not sure anybody else does.
Btw, nooby we are talking about USB reverse tethering where you access the Internet via the USB cable through ur pc.
Wifi tethering is what ur talking about where u use ur phone to supply Internet via Wifi.

Hi, just I tried to help him what I can help, nothing but other thing..
As u said I went on to link and it is only for rooted users only, (also there is option for non-rooted phones), but it is waste of time 3 hours for me..not worked..
If u know the procedure to work for non-rooted phones, send the link and help..
Saying words is easy than working..
I've tried the "The freeware, open source and free, solution is "Android Reverse Tethering 2.30".". It didn't work.

CMIIW, but CM7 does have it in Wifi/Tethering Options. There is an option called: USB Tethering...
I think we mean the same thing, maybe you should just try CM7

It didn't work for me when I was using zeus but it worked on the stock ROM. The developer says that the compatibility of the app is dependant on the kernel of the ROM. Since heuxxx has tweaked the ROM so well, I'm sure that something has been lost in the process. It worked for me on stock ROM and CM7 based Mokee OS.

Yeah I didn't realise that CM7 natively supported usb tethering until I tried out boypes CM7 the other day. My apologies.
But mind you, I did say that it was totally dependant on the ROM.
On another note, why don't you just buy a wifi router and use that to access the Internet? There few limitations with USB tethering which wifi doesn't have. Plus they are dirt cheap atm. I just got mine for $50

Could be your DNS settings are screwed up and over writing the router's settings. Download set DNS and uninstall it from within the app. This will reset your DNS to the factory default settings.

The changes in my link reverts the driver settings in JB back to same as ICS.
Even though the driver itself might be different in JB, but following the instructions will set the settings identical to the ICS settings. I do not experience disconnections or problems to connect to certain access points anymore. Let me know what happens after you tried it.
Also, the instructions will work only if you have rooted your phone. Keep in mind to mount the system folder as Read/Write
