Flashing non-Sprint rom to Sprint tab? - Galaxy Tab Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi,
Just a real noob to the Galaxy tab- i am in Australia and bought a Sprint version Tab from ebay for use with wifi only (we do not have cdma over here). My question is what would happen if i flashed it with a rom from a different version and then the kernel for sprint? I have searched everywhere and cant find an answer. There was one thread but no answer..
Would it brick it or just result in it not being able to use the cdma data? I want to flash a GSM rom on it as there are far more to choose from...

Well you did search, so i guess that means it will work fine, so you should try it and see what happens, but you know it wont convert the tab to gsm, also seeing you are in australia didnt you see the tabs for $299 at telstra/harvey norman/jb ect...

Don't flash anything other than a Sprint rom. You won't brick it, but it just won't boot. No point is flashing a GSM as the Sprint Tab doesn't have a sim card slot. Your best bet is to turn on airplane mode and use wifi
Flashing anything other than Sprint will cause it to freeze up until you flash Sprint back on it. Sorry bro. I wanted to flash mine to Verizon and it keept boot looping. The cell radio isn't made for anything other than Sprint.

Telstra say out of stock, but see if you can still buy one online, then you'll just have to wait for it to come in

Problems with RUU

Alright I'm new here, and i was deciding to upgrade rom on my HTC touch pro 2.
So i ran the RUU and i get Connection error 260. So i read.
SO far i tried:
Restarting PC
Changing USB Ports
Putting the Manual file on device to force it into SSPL or w/e.
When I do that i load the file and it never goes black. nothing happens actually. it shows the loading symbol for a second then nothing happens.
So idk what else to try. It's brand new, never had any problems. What else do you need to know i will gladly respond with more information.
sorry to say i just found out i have the RHOD500, which i guess has no Hard-SPL so i guess im playing the waiting game! yay

Is that a CDMA rhodium? If so, then look into that forum. Ofcourse it not released yet, but I am sure they will comeup with one soon.
Well this is my first smart phone. So im still new with all this, but from what i was told CDMA phone do not include a sim card.
and mine does. so if thats correct no i don't.
Edit: It looked like i had a SIm card and i have SIm Manager tellng me about it. But from what i hear all verizon phones are CDMA so i guess mine is CDMA....

Isn't it true that CDMA-version TP2s have sim cards so that they can roam on GSM-3G networks when in Europe (tho not in the USA)?
Maybe thats why i saw the SIM card. because my phone is a world phone. has the lil world pic on the back of it too.
So if it is CDMA can i not flash it?
Edit: Seeing i have not flashed mine is it safe to be putting all these custom roms on my phone? Cause i did and they all work fine.

Bell Tab unlocked to Rogers and phone?

I'll be doing more searching to be certain but since my Galaxy S is in for the 3rd repair and I'm sick of it there is a slight chance I can trade for a Tab. I have the Bell Galaxy unlocked running on Rogers so if I trade for a Tab it will be the Bell version.
So, is it reasonable to think that I can unlock it, flash it, and run a Rogers SIM and get 3G on it like I do the Galaxy? I can get 6+Mbs on the Galaxy. And can I get it to do phone duties? Of course this is only useful if I use a headset.
Any Bell Tab users running on Rogers around here?
Bell Tab user running on Telus. Same difference.
Just follow the unlock and flashing threads on the main forum for the AT&T version, it all applies to the Bell and Rogers tabs.
I have a Bell tab running on Sasktel but it is unlocked and could run on any north american provider. I also have the phone working. I found all the directions to do this on these forums.

Thanks a lot. I wasn't sure if there are many versions like there are with the S which can cause trouble (A U.S. Vibrant rom an a Bell Vibrant == bad news).
There's only a slight chance I can get one but the shop has mentioned they'll discuss it since they know how bad the S corruption problem is.
So the bottom line is that there is little doubt that a Bell spec'd Tab (not yet sure if there are radio differences between the different offerings) can run full 3G speed on a Rogers network and can use standard voice? I have no doubt that VoIP is ok but if I can make it act like a bigger version of the Galaxy S then I'm good. I won't ask how to do it since I can research no problem. I just want to be prepared to tell the shop that yes I'll swap for a Tab.

No doubt whatsoever. None. Zilch. Nada.
It's a sure thing, a cinch, dead certain.
Follow the instructions for unlocking and the AT&T how-to-flash-voice in this forum.
You'll get full 3G on both bands, you'll be able to fall back on Roger's EDGE network if need be (great for saving battery life too), and you'll have world-wide GSM voice, via speakerphone, Bluetooth, or the included wired headset.
I want to know how you convinced them to swap the Galaxy S for a Tab. Mine is in repair right now and I'd love to do that
I didn't, it is just a possibility. Actually they brought it up after my successful campaign to convince them that I used the SGS as a tablet and is why I don't show up as a Bell customer. We're not supposed to be able to buy them without at least a PAYG plan but that was my other success when initially buying what is now my regret. You'd think that buying the full price no contract would allow that but the fine print says no. It took me 5 stores before I was able to outsell the salesman.
I'm pleased however with how nice people have been so far around here. I did see a brief spat over someone's claim to use their Tab as a primary phone. That's what I intend to do since voice is low usage for me but I'd still need voice at times. The Tab can stay tucked away and use a headset so I'm not too worried about the size. I'm old with fat fingers so the size is very useful for me.
I'm in the same boat. I've got the Captivate from Rogers, and I picked up the Tab from Bell. (Way cheaper from Bell buying it outright) I'm going to hack the phone into working and unlock it tonight.
Voice is the least used feature of my phone, but I still need to have it.
I've just got to figure out a way to carry it around easily come summer when the Jacket pockets go back into the closet.
Let us know how it goes. If I get the same defective hardware back from repair I'll be asking to trade for a Tab. So with you having a Bell Tab and making it work on Rogers with voice is something I want to hear about. Did you get one month PAYG SIM? It seems you have to activate it to get it at the best price.

I signed up for the Tablet Flex Plan, but then cancelled it. I'm going to be billed for an extra month, so I'll use it sparingly and just eat the cost...
I bought minbe from Future Shop out right without having to go month to month or anything. The Rogers one was $20 cheaper aswell when Buying out right. $629 on Rodgers vs. $649 on Bell. If you want to avoid having to pay for a month of service and another sim just get it from Best Buy or Future Shop. They also have open box ones for $609.
Hey guys got a tab today on rogers , does anyone now if canadian tabs have Media Hub? Cant find it anywhere?

Will it also work on t-mobile 3g?
I am new to android devices, and I have a few questions:
#1. I got a tab with bell as the carrier.
#2. The bluetooth does not pick up headset or handsfree profile devices at all
I want to use a headset with this device
If I do the flashing and install new roms, will I be able to get the bluetooth to work?
Has anyone else had this problem and resolved it satisfactorally?
Rogers Stock Rom
Rogers tab stuck at samsung logo. I need to reflash to Rogers FW. Anyone has it ?
Thanks
Sorry for resurrecting an old thread, but could someone please let me know if there have been any changes to the flashing procedure?
I am a new owner of a Bell Canada Galaxy tab, and would love to have it unlocked, in order to use it freely...
Someone here noted that their Tab was already unlocked when bought - how would I go about to verify if mine is locked or not?
Thank you and sorry if my questions are too "noob"-ish...

Easiest way is to stick another carriers sim in the slot and see if you get signal. I unlocked my Bell Tab and use it on Telus as my main device (phone and all).
I used this for unlock. Then just follow the guide for the Overcome GB flash and you'll be set.

check the first value network lock and that will tell you if it's unlocked or not.

Mt bad I didn't realize there was a difference between the i9305 and gt9305 sorry
No difference between them, but big difference between GT-I9305 and the American models (model numbers beginning with SCH or SGH). If you have an I9305, there is no way to flash it to a CDMA/3GPP2 network, such as Sprint or Cricket, as it's a GSM/3GPP phone. (3GPP and 3GPP2 are rival standards bodies, making deliberately incompatible standards.) CDMA requires completely different hardware from GSM.
If you have a Sprint or Verizon Galaxy S3 (both CDMA models), you can flash them to Cricket, but you should ask in the Sprint or Verizon forums, as we are not familiar with the CDMA Galaxy S3 versions.

Call Sprint (or whatever telecoms company you plan to use).
If the phone is not registered as stolen, then no problems.
If the phone is stolen, then report it to the police and eBay. You should get your money back via eBay and the thief will get nicked. It will stop the thief from selling anymore stolen phones via eBay - thus you are helping others.
I don't have insurance on my phone, so if it got stolen it would be at great expense to me. Also I have tracking software on mine, so I would be hunting the thief down.

Sprint HTC One to Straight Talk

Ok, before I get "noobed" or told to read, I've read so many threads my head is starting to hurt.
I have an HTC One that I bought from someone on craigslist. I bought a "bring your own phone" kit for Straight Talk that says it's for "4G LTE and HSPA+".
I have rooted the phone, have S-Off, it says it's Unlocked on the bootloader screen, running hboot 1.56, radio 1.00.20.1108.
When I put in the sim card I don't get any message about simlock
Is this going to be able to work or am I beating a dead horse trying to get this thing working? I'll flash whatever or do whatever I need to do.
If it isn't going to work, I'll just throw it on ebay I guess

glad youve read up already... ive read a bit myself. heres what i have for you

this explains a bit of removing the cid lock on your phone. read the article if you havnt already. it explains all you need for all carriers. ive done a few straight talk change overs before...you def are going to need a rom that has epst built in or find an .apk for the one. you will have to use this to configure the phone to flash. but you must have the cid unlocked first. i hope this helps.

there are two diff locks that a carrier may administer to keep a device on there network. one is the sim lock, the other is the cid. in your case, since youve already sim unlocked (if you havnt you need to.) you would need to do the cid unlock to be able to use your phone on straight talk network. whoch was step by step in the link i posted. wrapping this all up, cid unlock allows you to switch from the sprint network to straight talk. without it it wont work. so after you cid unlock...youll be programming your phone onto straight talks network, which us explained in their kit or you can call their cs #
also, calling their cs # is adviseable due to this....all the phones ive flashed over were from spriint. they do not have sim cards. never needed to put a straight talk sim in. only had to program the phone through epst,,,which is what allows you to input ## command codes through yiur dialer. all i think you should have to do is cid unlock and program onto straight talks network through epst.
Ok so I used the Super CID and it changed it to all 1's, now what? Do you have any ideas what the next step should be to getting this working on straight talk? I'm sorry for being "noobish" but I'm just at my wits end and am giving up hope on this working.
guess there's nothing left to do but sell it on craigslist or ebay....because I'm guess the Sprint HTC One on Straight Talk just doesn't work or at least doesn't work with the sim cards available in my area.
I have tried everything and no dice

ST has a CDMA option. You cant use this with CDMA but the GSM bands don't match up that well so you'll be left with spotty or no service. Not sure if you'll get LTE but 3G shouldn't be problem

Sadly, no. It's not possible since Sprint is CDMA.
You can unlock the SIM card slot which will let you use SIMs from international carriers. See the thread in the main Sprint HTC One forum.

Ive been through hell with this, this past week.
Sprint m7
You would think once you root, rom, s-off, cid unlock, sim unlock and bake a cherry pi for it the damn thing would work with ATT compatible sim cards.
NOPE. well, sure, you can SOMETIMES trick it to get onto the network, but it doesnt stick, its not fast, and theres no data.
WHAT A PAIN.
I want to sell this now, but Im not even confident it will work on international GSM networks, even though the sim is unlocked (and cid unlocked!)
i dont think ill ever buy a non-international phone again. Well, my one X+ att flavor worked out ok, but there are so few roms for it... oh well...

i am fully vested in bringing this model phone back from whatever hell its been through now. stayed up till 2am last night reverting this thing back to stock after it went through all the OTA updates. I am an HTC one m7-wls master now
i wont be home until tomorrow, but i will be trying the fix in that link. i really hope it works.... i made a crystal clear call yesterday before i lost the network, so i KNOW this phone can talk to the towers near me on H2O plan... i just have to get the stupid software right.
OK, so I am done.
Recap (without getting boring)
I did the sim unlock, and also the "fix". FINALLY got the phone to register on H20. And I do have data too, but its GSM only (very slow). The only way I got any of this to work is be fully 4.1.2 stock.
It is set to WCDMA preferred.
also, even though I did the "fix" it still loses the network after a reboot.
I am so done with this phone. I am updating it fully and throwing it on ebay. F this thing! No more sprint phones for me, thank you.
