[Q] Multiple Ring Profiles - Captivate Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Advance apologies if this has been asked and answered. I am running continuum 4.1 on captivate. I would like to have multiple ring profiles in addition to "silent". For example sometimes I would like to ring on phone only and other times vibrate only or no ring and no vibrate. Can anyone point me towards a solution?
Thanks,
quielo

i don't have an answer for you, but you could just use the shortcut in the notification pull down. It would probably take you about the same amount of time to switch a profile as it would to select silence or vibrate whenever you want.

Yes, download the Simple Sound Profile app from the market. Its free and it lets you create several ringer/notification profiles that you can then select from the home screen widget. Works great and does exactly what you're looking for.
I never really understood why this isn't included in Android. I was previously a long time nokia user and you could crate as many ringer profiles as you wanted on those.

Want to add "Ringer Mode Selection" as a Launcher Item in HTC HomeScreen

I've got the 6 tab "HTC Homescreen" plugin installed on my AT&T Tilt.
Upon installation it included "Ringer Mode Selection" as one of the (9) launcher items. I accidentally removed it and now want to add it back, but when I attempt to re-assign it in the launcher, it doesn't appear in the app programs selection assignment list.
This launcher item is the one which allows you change the phone "ringer status" (on, off, vibrate, auto), and displays four ringer status boxes (icons) to select from. This item also displays & allows you to change the default ringtone sound.
How can I can get the phone "ringer status" selection item to appear in my launcher list again?
Thanks
Jazz
Ringer Mode Selection is actually a HTC Homescreen TAB
Thanks to Kavi's help via PM, I found the answer:
'Ringer Mode Selection' is actually one of the six HomeScreen TABS (Profile Tab), and not a launcher item as I mistakenly thought. I've now got the Profile (ringer mode selection) TAB back via HTC Home Customizer.

Umm just a word of caution if you use that tab and use calendar reminders. There is definitely some flakiness in the interaction between those 2 functions.
E.g. if you use calendar and have have events chime in to remind you of those events, then switch to slent or vibrate, sometimes those reminders will get shut off and wont ring even after you switch back to ring mode.
This has been a known proven issue for some time with the HTC Home app's "profiles" tab functionality. I thought it was fixed on the Kaiser, but I now know that it is still an issue. Its an issue with how it manages notifications in the WM database.
If you don't care about notifications, then it doesn't matter. But if you do, beware that sometimes you won't get your reminder notice or sound even if you switch back to ring profile after using the silent or vibrate profiles for even a short while.
I've since removed that tab from my HTC Home via the HTC Home Customizer app, and only use the Comm Mgr "Ring/Vibrate" toggle to make the switch back and forth. It works without causing the same issue above. A couple more presses, but nothing compared to missing meetings cuz the reminder doesn't fire.
Profile Tab (ringer settings) - "Sound: Automatic"
Jomo25, thanks for the heads up about the possible conflict with profile (ringer status) tab & calender reminders.
That said, can somebody tell me what the far right most 'ringer setting' called:
Sound: Automatic is supposed to do? Thanks.

Nice! So that is why that happens I could never quite place it when it happens once and a great while.
Know of any other good "touch based/home screen" profile selector?

[Q] Anyone know how to disable these things..

Hey guys, sorry if this has already been posted, i know double posts are silly and a waste of time, but the search function isn't working right now and my phone is driving me nuts haha
okay, i just got this captivate, i came from an HTC Desire to this phone, and when i got a message on my desire, it just made the sound and the indicator light came on. now i know the captivate doesn't have an indicator LED, but is there a way to stop this screen from turning on everytime. i use the no lock app and when it turns on in my pocket i start swyping.. hahah
oh, and this battery notifcation thing where it plays my notification sound super loud at 3 in the morning beside my head while i sleep.. can i turn that stupid option off too??
thanks in advance!
For the SMS notifications, I would try installing the app called ""SMS Pop Up".
You can control much more options for SMS notifications that way. But after you download it, make sure you disable the normal SMS notifications under:
SMS app> menu button>settings> notifacation
This is so the phone won't send you two notifications on two different apps. (The SMS Pop Up app isn't really an SMS app itself, but you get what I mean).
As for the battery notification, I would have no idea... Most of the custom roms I've tried have battery full notifications turned off as a default (cos it's pointless and stupid).
Yeah i noticed a lot of roms have it disabled, if your just rooted and dont' do roms does any one know what you do to disable it?
Is it editing a database or something?
For the battery notification, you can put your phone on silent out just turn notification volume all the way down otherwise I don't know, it isn't present in the froyo update
Your welcome
Now you say/press thanks
Teaching manners one person at a time
For SMS notifications I would use NoLED, not sms pop up. For not hearing the full battery notification I would use sound manager to turn off notification sound at the time you desire
Thanks peeps

[Q] Ringtone and notification volume

Can someone who already has this device comment on the volume of ringtones and notifications?
It's damn loud frightens me to death every time some one rings me

I don't have this yet, but I've heard it's like a freakin' blowhorn
Yeah, it's LOUD
Oh yes, it's dam loud, mine is on the lowest setting and it's still too loud haha.

its the loudest handset iv ever had even vid clips sound amazing and loud
but be warned if used as a alarm clock do a sound test first cos mine just woke the whole street up at 5-45am lol:victory:
That's what I like to hear, thanks!
dont find my ringtones that loud it was a lot louder on my galaxy note 2 but music and youtube is way louder
Yeah it's damn loud and for me it is a real issue as you cannot dissociate Ringtones volume and notifications volume.
You'll either have to lower the volume to the point notifications are barely audible or have everyone around you staring at you because your Led Zep Kashmir Ringtones sounds amazingly loud in your office.
If anyone got an idea to dissociate these 2 volumes please shoot
I didn't plan on using another ROM than the stock one but I'm seriously considering it for this very reason.
stock boot up jingle is very loud, its now gone, cos on rooted arhd 3.6
Loud. Too loud for my liking in most instances.

Try using a volume control app, it seperates the ringtone from notification. I have the notification & ringer on 1 (of 7) which is fine.

Have a rooted Dev Edition One. Not being able to set separate volume settings for Ringer and Notification was pretty frustrating. I installed Power Toggles and can now set separate volumes for Ringer and Notification.
I have always used Tasker to change these volumes depending on where I am and the time of day. However, on the One, even though Tasker shows separate volume settings for Ringer and Notification, it sets them both to whatever is the last action. For instance, if I am at work, I set my ringer volume to 1 and notifications to 5. Depending on which one I put first, both volumes get set to the last one set. Any thoughts on how to set these separately using Tasker?
Thanks.
What app

What app are you using?

Just tried around 15 different apps for controlling the volume. Most of them separate the ring and the notifications, until you go back in and they have linked again.
There does not appear to be anyway of unlinking them

Dang it! You're absolutely right. Power Toggles appears to allow the volumes to be set separately, but, when I go back and look, they are set the same. I set my ringer at 1 and notifications at 5 this morning (I use a really quiet notification sound and even at 5, it is not too loud). Was in a meeting at work.. I get a call and the #&%$(*(*$ ringer goes off SUPER LOUD!!! So terribly embarrassing and uncool.
Hard to believe that HTC would have goofed this one. Haven't seen any other phone to date that does not allow setting the volumes independently. If I can't find a fix quickly, this will force me to start flashing custom ROMs. (I really like Sense 5 and had made up my mind to stay stock (albeit, rooted) for at least a few months).
The only app I've found can actually separate and keep the setting is ICS Enhanced Ringer Control (or Volume), it is a paid app, however, after changing system sound profile from normal > silent or vibrate and the phone still rings... I am so frustrating, it is either adjusting the actual notification file volume for a workaround, or install the ICS control app but you will lose the sound profile feature.....
The other alternative is Sound Profile apps that takes over system profile, it separates notification from ringtone and has its own profile widget you can put on your home page for fast switches. It also comes with scheduler that replaced my other sleep silent apps, so finally I picked Sound Profile for all trouble saver, and it is free.

I agree; these suckers are too loud.
To help to deal with this, I installed HandyPhone, which allows me to set any ringtone to become an ascending ringtone. With luck, I can answer before that ringer becomes really intrusive.
Honestly it hurts my ears someyimes because of how loud it is

QUESTION: Options for opening Ring Doorbell in Live View

Hi All,
I have created a home automation UI using zooper and tasker. Within tasker, I have created a task that does the following once a user taps on the 'Camera' widget:
1. Open Ring
2. Waits 4 seconds
3. Performs the following actions (clicks)
- Clicks Menu
- Clicks Devices
- Selects Doorbell
- Clicks Live View
This works great and functions as it should, but as you can imagine it is not clean at all. I was wondering if there was a way in which these actions can be performed in the background or if there were any alternatives to getting this to work where the user would tap the 'Camera' widget and Rings Live View would open up. I also have Wink with Ring integrated into it, but it wouldn't allow me to create a shortcut for Ring. I've also checked IFTTT recipes but didnt find one that would work.
Any help is appreciated.
Thanks,
Scott
You need to use intents. I don’t have a ring doorbell so I don’t know the intents that ring uses sorry.

Thanks! I'll google it to see how to use intents with Ring.
Looking to do similar. I'm trying to open motion or ring notifications to the Live View. Any luck with this?
The only intents I saw were to go straight to devices or list of events.

Can not set my text notification to a downloaded tone.

Hi Everyone!
My name is George and I am setting up my new Note 9 and I have run into a snag. This is such a trivial thing I am almost ashamed to post about it.
I have downloaded several message tones from Zedge that I want to assign as my text notification tone.
My second issue is with the volume of the text notifications. I can't seem to raise the volume for those either.
I look forward to hearing any input, suggestions, thoughts, and opinions. Thank you all and have a great holiday weekend!
Respectfully,
George D.

You should have a folder called 'Notifications' on your internal storage, put your tones in there and reboot, you should be able to choose them after that. 2nd, press volume up/down on the side, click the arrow on the top right so it expands, the notification volume adjust will be there. Don't be ashamed to ask questions, we are ALL learning ALL of the time.
Thank you for the help, padlad! It is greatly appreciated. Is there a way to set a separate notification sound for texts and for everything else? My text tone is going off for every notification I get. It is really annoying when it goes off 3 or 4 times in 5 minutes. I was able to set a separate tone for my texts and everything else on my Note 8 but I cannot figure it out on the 9.
Thanks again!
Respectfully,
George D.
It sounds like you set the sound for notifications within the main settings, you need to set the sound within the settings of the messaging app.
