Migrating from Root to CM7 - best practice? - Nook Color General

Searched and couldn't find but I assume would be a common issue.... how do I restore my apps after migrating from a root to CM7 installed internally? I was thinking to just use AppBrain but this is sort of a slow manual process. Afraid to use Titanium backup because I fear the apps will get corrupted - but maybe this is a non-issue?

Unless there is data you are trying to save, I'd just reinstall everything... doesn't take that much longer than restoring..
But yeah, you can use Ti Backup.. to backup then restore app+data..
Don't forget to do an Nandriod backup b4 you try to install CM7, just in case..
Good luck!

[Q] backing up for every flash

Hi, a small question.
As some of you here that uses Rocket rom and has been flashing every new update by Eybee, i have settings made for apps that i uses, i usually do a fullwipe, and it's tedious to redo all settings from ground up once i flash and redownloading apps. Are there ways i could save the apps and it's settings at the same time, hence i do not need to redo everything for every fullwipe/flash?

Yes. Redo backups for new data. Some apps won't hold it no matter what.
System settings is something I don't do a restore for just to be safe. I can have all my regular settings loaded in no time now.
I'd Suggest mybackup pro as a better alternative

TB doesn't back up system apps by default. You can have it backup whatever you want though. Years ago I paid for it so I still use it. Can't comment on the other as I haven't felt the need to try anything else.

Rooting without wiping? OR how to back up app data

I've got a 6 month old OB which I want to root & install an ICS rom but one thing I have not been able to find out:
Can I root it without wiping it first? I've heard plenty about Titanium Backup but that needs root access first.
Alternatively, what is the best way to backup all the apps & settings ahead of time?
I did a search and couldn't find clear answers to this, sorry if it has been asked before.
If you have Rooted phone, My Backup Pro is the best app to backup and install including Data with apk files
If you are not rooted, it can only backup apk, not data

I don't have a rooted phone. I'm trying to ask if there is a way to back up the data without rooting, or back it up before rooting.

If you aren't rooted you can't backup the data.
No backups without root accs

Ok, no backups without root access. Any way to attain root access without wiping everything?
This isn't a deal breaker, but it'd be nice to retain what I can.
Risk of getting bootloop or non usable play store, which apps do you want to backup so badly?

Rooting a phone you don't have to wipe anything. After getting a root you'll be able to make a real backup. Then you can wipe and flash any rom. Also you can flash a fresh rom without root, so you can "revert" rooting.
Good programs to backup your data:
- CWM - making a nandroid backup - best method to backup all data on your phone
- Titanium backup - very functional, professional program
- Go Backup - to store contacts, smses, call-logs and installed programs
IF you are on 2.2 you don't need to wipe anything.
If you are on 2.3.4 you need to wipe everything.

Can't use CWM if the phone hasn't been rooted and is on GB with the Current CWM injection method because it wipes all Phone on board memory.

You can root 2.2.2 without losing anything. To be safe : Make backups of your contacts, hopefully your email should still be on the email server and if you really need those text messages then you can write them down. If it is really really important to keep the information rather not risk it.
Back To The Original Topic : If you want to just backup apps (not other stuff) then ES File Explorer can do that for you.

[Q][ROM] Best way to migrate between ROMs

Hi All,
I've recently just came back to android after a hiatus with iOS, and I've installed the monxdified ROM and was hoping to try out the iHackers ROM. I have about 15gb of apps (some of them linked with link2sd) and was wondering if there was a relatively simply way to migrate my apps between fresh installs of Roms? Thanks!
:good:
One of my authors posted about using OBackup and Nandroid Manager. That is the quickest way and that's how I do it. You can read about it here http://www.hackmyandroid.com/switch...-loosing-any-data-using-nandroid-manager/5397

I'd say Titanium Backup. The free version should do, but restoring using the free version is a big pain if you have a lot of apps. I honestly don't know how Titanium Backup works with link2sd, you'd probably have to manually set that up every time you install a new ROM. The paid version of Titanium Backup can batch restore all your backed up apps without any problems whatsoever.
Maybe someone else here knows if there's an easy way to maintain your link2sd settings.

Hahahaha, with you on that, restored my apps once one by one with Titanium, because I couldn't find my license file.

Backup and Restore

Hi,
Ive been away from the android world for quite some time, what is the easiest way to backup and restore app data when you are a rom flashing maniac? I know that note 8 doesnt have a lot of custom roms but old habits die hard
So far, Ive used titanium, its really slow specially the restoring part when you dont have the premium version.
Google backup is also internet based, Im looking for an offline type of backup and restore
There is also twrp, but I have never tested it
Thanks

If you use TWRP to back up your Rom it works just like it's supposed to, been using it for years. If you just want apps and app data I'd invest in the license for Titanium Backup, you can batch backup, batch restore and even make a flashable zip for your apps and data.

Question Rom hopping, how to backup and restore?

hi,
how do you test new roms?
i won´t setup the phone so many times... it takes so much time
i´m thinking about using twrp?
is it possible to make a backup through twrp and if the old rom is better then the new, i restore the backup and everything works fine since before?!
which files i need to backup in this case?
if you are rooted you may use migrate, this one https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=balti.migrate

Hello bro
if you just want to try another rom you need to make twrp backup which i did not try coz i dont like jumping from one rom to other
but i must point you to an important note which is most roms demand formating data after installing so you may get your backup broken after restoring it
you have to try by your self
but i usually use more time consuming but safer approach :
i use alpha backup or you could another to backup apps with theirs data and restore them on the new rom
you may spend some time to configure the rom for the first time but imo this is the safer way
i can suggest cherish os try it if you need BB and speed
good luck
You can use Google One if you are on Gapps and want to use google Drive.
I'v used Migrate or Alpha Backup, working fine as well and without Google but it's a slower approach

For backups and easy restore, I've always used a spare SD Card (just another perk of having one) for the convenience of having an offline way to restore and backup data. Other apps, like swift backup works too.
I've been using swift backup to backup the apps and data to my sd card (requires root). It helps a lot, but there are some sensitive apps that don't like their data being restored on a new rom, like signal, paypal, banking app. For those, I need to delete the data and set it up again.

I have used both (paid) Swift Backup, Migrate-ng (looks abandoned, but keeps working...), and TWRP/ADB in a suspenders AND belt mindset. This has served me well up to now...
