It is captivate with cynogen 7 mod but if you don't know what it is I'm guessing you don't have it (not to be rude) . So just get the regular captivate cwm update.zip .. Hope this answered what you need to know.

Ya, once you flash another rom it will depending on the rom replace the one from rom manger. Do if you want to keep that cwm recovery just copy the "update.zip" file from the root of the sd card. If your not rooted let me know and I will post it for you.

Yah, I'm rooted and everything, but here's my latest issue. If i hit reinstall packages in the samsung recovery thing, i get E: (insert whatever error it is here). And I can't go back to stock with Odin3 because it never reads my phone in download mode on my laptop. Thanks again!
I'm trying to figure out how to upload the zip from my phone, but if you look for "3e recovery" with search you can get fix fit that.

Yah, I've tried that, but it will read my phone when on and will have the yellow 0[COM:4] (5 or something like that) and as soon as I turn off my phone to go into download mode it goes away, saying "removed", and the yellow box disappears and doesn't come back until I reboot into regular phone.
While it is plugged in turn it off and then try adb download
Ithink it is; "adb shell" then "su" then "reboot download"..... Hopefully that should help

Well close odin, then (just to make shore correct on getting to download mode) remove your simcard and battery and external sd card. Next open odin (with phone un plugged) next put in battery and hold down volume keys, and plug in to computer and see if that works, because odin has to be open before you go to download mode

Try changing the wallpaper maybe?

Obvious question is have you done anything to your phone? Can you give any details about what has gone on prior to it going black, has it always been a black background?

Never done anything to it, except charge it up. Bought it from ebay and when I hold down the home screen button, I get the task manager pop-up, but that's it. But the screen is completely black, except the top half with the time, wifi connection, battery life, etc.

There is no odin for mac, but there its heimdall. It its more complicated them odin and takes more to understand what you are doing.

Software can be found at samfirmware.com
But before you go crazy with that, you said you can get into recovery. Have you tried a factory reset?

It says, "ClockworkMod Recovery v2.5.1.2" and it's green letters.
The way I got to that was when I got forced it into recovery mode, I clicked on the option to reinstall packages.
Sorry about that:
There is 'reboot system now', 'apply sdcard:update.zip', wipe data/factory reset, wipe cache partition, install zip from sdcard, backup and restore, mounts and storage, and then advanced
Do you have a external sd you can hook up to your computer?
Who ever sold you the phone obviously was playing around with the phone.
if you have an sd there may be a way to recovery but it is a long shot.
What happens if you hook your phone into your mac
Edit
In clockwork select install zip from sd, it should list the files on the sd . What does it say?

These are all roms. So obviously the last owner was busy. Listen if you try to install one if these 2 things can happen, 1 your phone boots up and you are saved, 2 you get stock in a boot loop and you will have to find a windows pc to use odin.
What do you want to do? If you want to try to install a eoin I would go with cognition. Scroll down to the zip, select, confirm, cross your fingers. Before you do anything give newer one minute, I want to confirm something

The link I posted was heimdall for mac. This is odin

Hey there,
Got my moms Galaxy over here. Thing wasn't updated and slow as hell so I thought I'd update it. Went through the Kies process but that didn't really work, phone just couldn't make connection despite what ever driver I used (win or mac, got both here).
So first things went haywire when I read somewhere to flash recovery I needed to do something via Heimdall. Did that with the command window and afterwards the phone got stuck in a bootloop (only the I9000+samsung repeating over and over again).
Then I tried flashing GB from samfirmware, which failed. All done through odin, the screen went purple at dbdata.rfs. So I went with stock froyo, from the androidworld.nl forums and same thing happens but now it's a blue screen at factoryfs.rfs.
What am I doing wrong?
Try flashing again via Odin and this time don't touch your pc while it is flashing. That yellow purple screen has happened to me while I was doing other things while flashing was going on in the background.
And check if your phone is i9000 or i9000+ and flash the their respective firmware .

Since the screwup started with Heimdall, might fix it with that?
Watch a YouTube video and see if you're doing everything properly.
What I do is
1. Go to download mode
2. Open Odin, select pit, PDA, phone, CSC files. And remember to check the re partition option
3. Connect your phone
4. Click start.

Hm, no. It's a replacement cable (cheap) which I used for my Desire, no problem with that at all. Though it might be it indeed! Will be two days before I can get the original cable.
In the meanwhile I got CWM-based Recovery v.5.0.2.6 working.. while installing cyanogenmod it goes "checking blm status", then "install from sd complete".. a bit strange and it doesn't boot into the rom but into the recovery.

You can use Mobile Odin by Chainfire (look for it in the market), it works exactly as an Odin built-in your SGS with no need for PC.

I'm not certain but it might be called update.zip, because if I remember that's the only name that will flash in the stock recovery. As for finding it, just try searching for update.zip. it should be on the root of the sdcard(no folder) because that's the only way I thought it could install. Any ways I'm probably wrong but at least you can try.

I'm not sure really what CSC code is but I think your talking about stock Odin flash able package. That should get you back to stock and flash the stock recovery and wipe everything. However i think it will bootloop after it flashes so you will have to boot into recovery and wipe data. If so check out the wiki. There is all the info you need. I have another idea though. I haven't done this myself but you should be able to push a clockworkmod recovery.img to the phone from a terminal if you have adb also in the wiki. I can't view your pic because I don't have a Facebook but maybe someone else can. Good luck
Sent from my Nexus 7 using xda app-developers app
That is the stock update pushed by Samsung from what it sounds like. Also sounds like a data packet might have dropped during the downloading of it causing a bad install. For simplicity get cwm Installed and boot thru that and flash from cwm. Wiki has all the info needs.
Wiki please read completely on rooting and install of cwm. Suggest 6.0.1.2 version. Personal preferences on that.

I have a similar problem. Which 3 buttons are we talking about? Power+Home+VolUp?
Easiest way, take out battery, push volume up and power, insert battery while holding, when Samsung appears release only power, when the android guy with package appears press menu
Sent from my SGH-T679 using xda app-developers app
Make sure you push the "Menu" capacitive button (left in the row of four buttons below the screen) when you see the green Android guy and the box. That will get you into the stock recovery menu.
I had to reboot into recovery a couple of times because I missed that part. What a pain!
