Building in windows? - Hero CDMA Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I have a very basic knowledge of adb and what not, but I was wondering if it was possible to build in windows? If not it's ok I have Ubuntu bit I'm curious
sent from my ginger-optimus

You can, but I would imagine it would be a little more involved/difficult to do seeing as the majority of the guides are aimed towards building in a linux environment

Could you point me towards a guide?

Like an android in general guide not just HTC

You want a guide on how to set up a developing environment on windows right? Just making sure I'm understanding you right.
I believe I gave someone a link a little while back on how to do that, so if nobody else posts a link I'll try to find it when I get back home tonight

Nope, guide to building, I have Ubuntu 10.10

[Q] Help needed with everything

I have a droid charge, and have no experience with LG's ....
My brother has a revolution running stock, and due to lag he wants root + room + kernel...
Now he has no idea on how to get any of this done, so he asked me ...
So I need help with:
-revolution rooting method step by step
-how to get a working version of CWM on the revolution (links please)
-Most stable ROM
-Most stable kernel
I know it is a lot to ask, but I will only have the phone with me for a couple of hours this weekend to get this done.
I will be thanking every helpful post, but i wanted to thank any help offered in advance.
Take a look in the development section. There are quite a few step by step procedures there.
Sent from my VS910 4G using XDA
as previously said, check the development section. check what version of GB your bro has, eg 2.3.4 or 2.3.6. if he has 2.3.4 its easy to root and flash everything. MT's guide as to do everything can lead the noobest noobs to very acceptable revo.
Sent from my ASUS Transformer Pad TF300T using XDA Premium HD app
I asked him, and apparently he is on 2.3.4 ... so one question what would be a stable 2.3.6 rom at this moment for the revo? With what kernel?

Look in the DEVELOPMENT SECTION. Christ, how hard is it to read and comprehend really?

Or instead of being a jerk you could just of easily said the only ROM is the broken out ROM or whatever its called.
There is no need to be a jerk on here.

I honestly don't mind helping people. There are however two previous posts that direct him to the correct forum with all the answers he needs. I was putting it into words he could understand because obviously the last two posts trying to help were futile in their attempts. Not being a jerk, it's just not hard to find the info you need on here. It's not like it's a huge forum with 1,000's of posts to go through.

Got it done, and not thanks to your temper. All I asked was for a general recommendation of what ROM, Kernel, rooting method to use. I never had a LG Revolution, so I had no idea of the issues and bugs on Roms, kernel, or rooting methods for it .... If cant say anything useful just hold you 12 year old mouth shut!

You should have done a quick search first, or looked at the home page...
This is the link to the Jelly Bean (4.1.1/4.1.2) Root Method
Althought djrbliss never mentioned it was for AT&T's 4.1.1, it was assumed as it was Jelly Bean.
Just use an Ubuntu Live CD/USB, Boot/Virtual Box into it, and get the android-tools, and any other required packages...
So you obviously look that hard man.

Some people are unconsiously oblivious...
Others just have a harder time comprehending the descriptions for the Guides here...
Then again, there are those who just skip that part anyways...

If you have any spare USB Drives, there are easy windows programs to easily make a bootable USB... If needed, I could put up screenshots showing (visually) what to do to make the bootable drive and how to root.

Thats the only method man. That's how it works.

You have to use Ubuntu 12.04 LTS. I was using Ubuntu 12.10 and I had the same problem.

Ubuntu Touch

Has anyone looked into creating a Ubuntu Touch build for this device?
I've read through the instructions, I'm thinking of giving it a go to compile a build, but I've never compiled anything before.
Here is the link to the porting page, in case anyone else with more experience would like to try
https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Touch/Porting
Why would you want it? It's just a dev preview. Not a working os
Sent from my HTC One using xda premium
We already ported it actually, just didn't tried to boot it up. Porting ubuntu touch only requires a working port of cm10.1 which we already have.
Ubuntu touch = cm10.1 rom without dalvik/java parts + zip provided from cdimage.ubuntu.com
Any dev with proper development environment can build it. I would compile it but I don't have time to setup dev environment since I'm using windows. I may try to make it happen this weekend.

That's why I decided against doing it, although if we get it working now, once it's finished we'd be able to compile is straight away

I started porting it, hopefully I can get a working build tonight. I'll upload it if I can manage to get a working(or at least booting) build.
That would be wicked

Yeah would love to give this a try

It's really not worth a flash until it's an actual os and not a dev preview.

The full version is up, when you download the images there is the preview to download or the full version.......at least that's what I seen.....

Did you have any luck? I had tried to follow the Porting Guidelines, but I couldn't get the image properly built. I just put CM 10.1 from the nightly onto the device yesterday. I'll try to just flash the most recent image from the cdimage.ubuntu.com server and see where that gets me. I'll report back this evening.

Ubuntu Touch m7spr port

Not sure if anyone has found it yet, but on the international m7 thread, a post was made by ModestMouse1312 with a Ubuntu Touch port. He has actually posted files as well on this thread http://forum.xda-developers(com)/showthread.php?t=2780273 (sorry I'm not allowed to post links yet) with an untested port for our m7spr devices. If this has already been posted on here somewhere, I apologize, I mist have missed it when I looked before posting it.
I haven't seen it yet but here's the link I don't have linux to try it

Negative, i will be contacting playfulgod for instructions and maybe to help out. The flex and gtab 3 are really under-developed. I would like to try and cintribute in some way
If you really want to help. Start reading everything you can about kernels. That's what's really needed is a kernel guru
