My question is...
I have Cyanogen mod 7 on my phone atm and I want to experiment with other roms. I'm going to try MIUI
Do I have to Re flash my phone if I already have open recovery and nandroid on my phone or can i just get the Miui rom throw it on the SD card , then go to open Recovery wipe everything and install the miui and reboot the phone?
And do I also have to apply the Google apps update as well (i'd assume i have to just like cyanogen 7)

if ur coming from cm7 to miui u will have to wipe everything .. no need to flash gapps ..

From ROM to ROM, all you need to do is place the ROM itself on your SD Card in OpenRecovery/updates and do a FULL WIPE (both caches and data).
For Gingerbread ROMs you need the GB Google Apps(Gapps). For Froyo ROMs (with the exception of FroyoMOD) you need to flash the Froyo Gapps.
Reboot into recovery and apply update, go from there.

When I nandroid backup my Cyanogen mod 7 settings will it be there when i do a factory wipe and put a different rom on, and if i dont like that rom i can easily go back into open recovery, click restore and boom i got my cyanogen again?>

when u do a nandroid backup u dnt backup only ur settings .. do a full backup n when u restore ur phone will back to the same state when u backed it up ..
u don't have to setup your phone again as all your settings (Google Account, Facebook, Twitter) and your personalised fonts, ringtone, wallpaper, widgets.... all get restored back.
u shud even do apps2ext ..

Someone answered this, but I wanted to help be really clear. When you do a nandroid backup, it backs up the ROM, your data (save for the SDCard) and the cache. Basically, if you hork your device (which I do a lot), you can restore from the nandroid backup right from recovery (hold down the X key while powering on).
The nice thing is that you really can't mess up. Make sure to take a backup before you play, and if you don't like what you see a few hours later, you can safely fully restore and be right back where you were on the old ROM with your old data.

Scenario where Nandroid backup comes in handy
Ok, so now you are on Miui ROM ver.1.5.27. You have gone thru the trouble of setting up your Google account, Facebook, Twitter, etc.
You have personalised it with your own ringtone, fonts, widgets and wallpaper.
Then u found out Miui ROM got new update today to ver.1.6.5 and you are eager to go flash it now until you forget to make Nandroid backup...thinking what could go wrong.
So u go ahead and flash this new Miui ROM ver.1.6.5 but then you found out that it drains battery life crazy or maybe this is the Chinese version.
So u decided to go back to Miui ROM ver.1.5.27.
But because you forgotten to make a Nandroid backup, you have to go thru the whole process of flashing the zip file, the Gapps and then setting up your Google account, Facebook, Twitter, etc and also setting up your personalised ringtone, wallpaper, fonts, widgets, etc.
Now... had u done a Nandroid backup of Miui ROM ver.1.5.27 before you flash a newer version, then your life would be easier because all you need to do is restore back the Nandroid backup of Miui ROM ver.1.5.27 and u don't have to setup your phone again as all your settings (Google Account, Facebook, Twitter) and your personalised fonts, ringtone, wallpaper, widgets.... all get restored back.

So, I've decided to flash CM7 nightly #127 (which seems to be the latest build) to my O2X...
I am completely new to this, so I am going to follow this tutorial: http://wiki.cyanogenmod.com/wiki/LG_Optimus_2X:_Full_Update_Guide
As of now, I've successfully rooted my device using SuperOneClick (so much easier than the method described in CM tutorial), and I made some backups with Titanium Backup.
On the forums here I read you need to also use NVFlash... That it is better that Rom Manager.... But there is no mentions of it in the official CM tutorial... All I found was this http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1054492 but I'm not sure of what it does, and if it is necessary to use it when flashing CM...
So, what should I do? I already installed ROM Manager and flashed the recovery thingy... All I need is a external sd card (which I going to get today) to make the Nandroid backup, copy the CM zip on it and Flash it...
Is this procedure risky? Do I absolutely need to do it with NVFlash? Is it ok to do this as I already set up Rom Manager?
Any help will be greatly appreciated!!!

NVflash is not necessary, in fact not even needed. Just need the cm7 zip file which needs to be renamed to 'update.zip' and put it in the root of the sd card. I think it's possible to flash using the internal sd card but I'm not sure. Once you flash that, you should flash the gapps file using 'install zip from sd card' using clockworkmod. Both of these flashing methods using CWM. I didn't use ROM manager, I just booted into CWM recovery and then flashed it. ALWAYS make a full rom backup before flashing and you should be safe and yes it's very safe.
Nv-flash is only needed when you have to restore your phone from some thing close to a absolute brick (when you have flashed some thing wrong or done some thing really bad, and it don't start by any means). That's when nv-flash is used to restore it as an last option. When nothing else works then you use it.
The metod described in the update guide is more advanced and yea its a bit of pain. But at the same time you do gain some practice on things that might be needed to do later in case you have problem with your phones. Things that people here on this forum almost assume that you know how to do. Also it works on all current known firmware for LGO2X. At least follow the steps until you have the adb set up. It might save you the frustration when you sit there and have problem with the phone.
Flashing is easier and faster with the rom manager app. Just remember to move your backups from titanium to the external sd as well. You don't want to lose those backups, right?
Last but not least.
Welcome to the living hell of always flashing the latest firmwares =D
And constant hunt for the highest ver numbers!
PS: Its safe as long as you remember "BACKUP BACKUP BACKUP"

I have now successfully flashed the latest CM nightly build !!! And it rocks !!! I can't believe how sluggish my phone was with the official firmware... It is just crazy...
I had a few issues though:
- When I flashed CM (after data/cache wipe / factory reset), I couldn't find anything on my external SD card... To access the CM zip, I had to navigate to the internal SD card, and there I had a "_ExternalSD" folder... a bit weird...
- I exported all my contacts' numbers on the SIM card before flashing, but CM did not find anything... Hopefully I had a backup on my desktop, and had to manually re create all contacts (good thing I don't have too many...)
- I flashed the latest google App from http://wiki.cyanogenmod.com/wiki/Latest_Version#Google_Apps but the Market is the old version (2.x)
Other than that, I am now a happy CM user... No way I go back to official LG bloatwares!!!

You can flash (with CWM recovery same procedure that you used to flash CM7) latest Market from here:http://www.mediafire.com/temasek (Go to Misc Folder)

I just saw that a new CyanogenMod nightly build has been released (#146) and I'm eager to update (from #127).
But I am wondering if I need to go through the whole process again (Nandroid backup, clear data/cache, wipe, flash CM, flash google apps)...
Or can I just go to recovery mode (from Rom manager) and flash the latest CM build??

NVFlash is used kinda like fastboot for our device (Cyanogen said so in the RC1 forum), a just in case scenario. As if in rom manager gives you an endless bootloop and you can't boot into recovery mode. You can use the NVFlash CWM or rom manager, I actually never use rom manager; I just uninstall it.
As far as the CM Wiki goes, I'm trying to change it to include NVFlash but the wiki people are a bit strict on what gets linked to what...

i start flash custom roms couple days ago, trying out "temasek's UNOFFICIAL BUILD RC1-94" everything work great, just some of the .apk was not working, so i decide to go back to stock roms, i thought it be simple process restore it backup, but adter it restore LG logo keep boot and restart. so i start reading found this thread i try it out, load it install this zip file,

Yes - that happened to me also. My first "bad" experience with flashing
from what i read CM7 running ext4, stock runing ext3 right?
so now i'm back with stock running froyo, i still have my backup files on with sd card. Do i root and install rom manager then install Back2Ext3, and final running restore? will this restore back to my original state since i backup using cwm to backup.

yes, cm7 uses ext4 system mount. i just use a zip file which i flash from recovery if i need to get back to ext3.
here it is btw if you are on stock froyo and want to restore stock gingerbread (if i understood you right) you dont need to use back to ext3 again, just restore your back up.

Restore stock backup from CM needs to flash an ext4-backto-ext3 zip with cwm, what a pity you overwrite cwm with stock recovery.
Now you should try to rescue your phone with SmartFlash, finally consider nvflash method.

well i notice the froyo firmware is way faster than the GB i have, no lagg at all battery is really good, is there any GB stock rom run smooth without bloatware.... (like international version)

If you mind, try Django Manouche, Custom but stock based ROM http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1410662 . I tried many CM and MIUI roms but always ended restoring Django back

i have just flashed ICS_Stunner_1.4.26.1 onto my Note.
Its amazing, I love it.
I have changed the dpi to 189 and changed it to forced landscape with 10 x 10 icon layout.
It was working fine the whole day and now when I turned on my phone the icons are cut in half. Not sure how to fix this?
Secondly I flashed from GB 2.3.6 with abyss kernal... they say you must charge battery to full then discharge empty and then charge to fill and delete some battery config. Is this true?
What would your path of action be when flashing a new rom? Also how do I restore all my contacts? I made a complete backup using titanium backup (system, apps & data) when I was on my root stock rom...
I got a few questions there and hopefully I can be pointed in the right directions...
One final question, if I wanted to try out KingDroid rom. How would I do it coming from this ICS Stunner Rom?

I follow the procedure suggested by xda thread when I change from ICS rom to another ICS or GB rom:
1. download AbyssNote 4.2 kernel and place it on your internal/external SD Card
Also download the ICS Rom you want to install and put it on your SD card.
2. reboot to CWMR and do a backup of your current system
3. after your backup is done, stay in Recovery
4. go to install a zip from SD card --> select AbyssNote 4.2 zip and flash it
5. go back to CWMR's root menu --> advanced --> reboot recovery
6. you'll find yourself in AbyssNote's Touch Recovery
7. factory reset --> wipe cache --> wipe dalvik
9. flash the ICS Rom of your choice
10. reboot and let the Rom settle for a couple of minutes
I have no problem with this procedure so far.
If you want to be absolutely safe, you will use PC Odin back to stock Gingerbread, root it, then flash a safe rom/kernel combo. Abysskernel will work, but it's not 100% safe.
Your contacts should be restored if you had them synced with Google (Settings --> Accounts).
When you restore with TI Backup (if you do) don't restore anything system wise. Just apps and data with them only. If you have bugs, you will have to re-flash and NOT restore apps.

Use PC Odin back to gb stock prerooted, the stunner use a bad kernel i think and wipe can cause emmc to break?, so i suggest using PC odin back to stock prerooted gb , then follow some guides ( i used abysskernel ) then Asylum as its same and good rom!

If you restore "Phone" and Contacts app + data with TI backup, it MIGHT restore them but no guarantees.
You can restore the backup of your GB rom IF you are NOT using CWM on a stock ICS rom. Use Abyss Kernel to restore nandroid backup. Flash Abyss. Reboot recovery. Restore nandroid.
Go to stock ICS OR franco, speedmod, or CM9 kernels or a CM9 build.
ok I flash abyss kernel via cwm... then advance reboot recovery... restored my backup via cwm... merged my phone contacts with google...
Then i got curious about Kingdroid v2.0 with s3 add ons. So I downloaded that and flashed it via cwm... the play store wasnt downloading apps but i could browse internet, so reflashed abyss kernal via cwm and re flashed ics stunner...
I am back on stunner now. I prefer to look of this rom. So i guess as long as your flash abyss kernel you should be fine with flashing different roms and retaining root?
Just need to find out about the battery issue... when flashing a new rom what do you do concerning the battery to ensure correct % and charge...

also still having problem with cut off icons with apex set at 10x10 in landscape mode...
ok i think i has figured out the solutions...
At current apex doesn't support icon resizing so i changed my layout to 6 x 6 for now.
also was having problem making calls, it kept fc. I found out somewhere that if you use 160dpi you can use a fix or change to 200dpi and you don't need a fix and it works and still looks awesome.
I am very happy with this rom thus far... otg works which is a plus. I think i will use it for a week or so and then try the next one...

Dont take me wrong dude but all these fixes including the call fc are in the stunner page,if u read everything before flashing u will not have problems and if u do, u would know how to solve yourself...and be careful restoring nandroids from cwm,flash abyss,then restore.

Cm 10.1.3 works perfectly fine. But once i flash it with my Titanium backup update.zip file. There will be errors, and after i reboot it, it iwll just get stuck at the spinning blue circle. I have tried everything, from apps+data to only app data. Nothing works.
I would have to factory reset and reflash it again.
I use clockworks mod recovery.
My phone is a odin rooted Galaxy S3 Lte (i9305)

use recovery to flash roms not TB, its much more reliable.. i think the problem is because of apps and data you trying to restore with the update.zip. i know you use tb because you want to restore your apps+data easily while flashing new rom, but tb seems to give problems with this method

Nah, i didnt flash my rom with tb, i flashed it with recovery. Then once everything was done, i would go back into recovery and flash the update.zip file

yes i see, but that seems to be the problem ''restoring apps, data with tb'' and from what i know it occurs that this sometimes gives errors, fc's and bootloops like in your case

you could try to export your backups (only data) to pc temporary and after having flashed the rom with full wipe, install the apps again and put the backups manually in corresponding directories and see how that is gonna work out. I gave up on TB because of this problem and usually i always start fresh with new flashed roms. I only put my personal files on pc and put it back manually after rom install.

yes, most of the times works fine but cant guarantee it will work with every app, i guess has something to do with permissions i.m.h.o
