Hy everybody. Since the data base showing similar threads and my own forum search did not come to the issue I´m having, I´m writing this in the hope someone may have an idea on my problem and help out. Hope you do.
Since I´m having trouble receiving sms from a specific number, and only that number -as far as I know- the thing started with not receiving two sms in a row. Now it happens with all kinds. 1, 2 or 3 sms in a row. Sometimes I get them, sometimes I don´t. Sometimes making a nandroid restore gets them back, sometimes don´t. I see on google that many have had the same or similar issues. That is one point I´m having.
The other even more weird is that lately, whenever I nandroid restore my Milestone, ALL of the late installed apps still appear on the phone, untouched... It appears as if system settings remains the latest I had before the restore, plus what the restore had on the time the backup was made. Same happens with factory reset. Whenever I do a factory reset from the phone settings or from the recovery menu it happens the same thing. Installed apps do NOT go away as they use to weeks ago... It is the most weird thing I´ve had happening on this particular phone.
And man, as if this wasn´t enough, the sms problem is a real pain in the ass. Weeks ago a factory reset just did the trick. Weeks later the phone started evidencing the same problems. And now the factory reset is not doing what it was suposed to...
Really starting to get annoyed with Android. I started enjoying it at first, but I´m starting to see that, as time goes by, the platform easily revolves into some kind of a new bug... Frustrating stuff!.
Anyone has got any idea out there as what might be happening, and how to go about trying to solve the issue?
Any help, same experiences and ideas are very much apreciated.
Thanks in advance to everyone.

I hope someone can help me with this before I go stark, raving mad.
I tried to search for this problem but it's hard to know just what to search for. I don't think this is Raphael specific but was unable to find a general software forum.
When an alarm or reminder goes off on my Fuze, I don't (usually) get the normal popup dialog. To get it, I need to tap on two tiny icons, which is a major pain. I've been fighting this for months. I've tried a hard reset followed by installing my software a programs one at a time with an alarm test after each install. I've tried restoring several old backups. I've still been unsuccessful in tracking it down.
After a hard reset, it works like it's supposed to, but as I continue to install software and use the device, it eventually stops working.
Can anyone give me a hint as to where I might be able to begin looking?
Thank you in advance!
Not a single reply. :-( Am I really the only person who has experienced this?
I've been fighting with this problem for literally months. I just recently went through several hard resets and restores, trying to find some specific application or condition that causes the problem. It started happening again a couple of days ago, and I'm absolutely sure that this time I had not installed any new applications. The only change from the time that reminders were working properly to the time that they stopped working was that I had downloaded some applications data (email, etc.).
If anybody has any ideas at all, I will be forever indebted.
Thanks,
Keith
I have the same problem, I think. I will go into my settings and tell it to give me pop ups for new SMS, MMS, notifications/reminders, and then they stop happening and I go back into settings and have to recheck the boxes. I'm not sure what's causing them to quit though. I just flashed a cooked ROM to my phone, but I don't like it so I'm trying to find something new. The problem was on the factory ROM that came with my phone.
I have the same issue, im using the ROMeOS 6.5 ROM and i dont get notification too...
gonna try and fiddle around the advanced config app
Hello all. I made this topic because my one friend and I have had a strange messaging problem the last couple of days.
Now, we both have rooted G1's and flashed Micro Hero for the Hard SPL on our phones. We've been using this ROM for about a month without any flaws for the whole time, but now our messaging keeps acting up. What keeps happening is when we go into our messaging app, the messages we send all get sent to the bottom, and the messages received from others all get sent to the top. That, and all the time stamps don't usually have times but just say "Yesterday". The fix I used that worked was re-flashing the ROM, but for all of those who flash ROMs a lot, you probably know how much of a pain it is to set up your phone again after re-flashing. There has to be some other alternative to this. And yes, I've tried using different messaging up but it did the same thing.
So has anyone else had this problem, or it it possibly T-Mobile and not us? Or could it possibly be that we have too many messages at once? I only had about 140 messages when this started happening, and than about 20 the second time it happened, so I really doubt it's that. I just don't see why it would start happening now all of a sudden and not right away.
It sounds like a problem on T-Mobile's and time-stamping the messages causing things to go to weird locations because they are trying to sort the messages by time. But if you can fix it by reflashing, then would download Backup for Root Users and use that everytime you need to re-flash. Good luck.

Thanks, and I'll try that as I'm downloading Backup for Root Users now. I just hope I don't I find a fix besides re-flashing though because I'm having to re-flash once a day at this point. It's really annoying.
Hi all,
for the last 5 or 6 days, my phone has crashed every single night. :-(
When I go to bed, I just leave it on the table, not charging, but with enough battery left to easily last for the night. The next morning, the phone is switched off and I cannot switch it back on, because the battery is completey drained.
When I charge and then turn the phone back on, it has done a "partial reset", meaning that all settings are back to factory defaults, contacts are gone, ... All accounts, apps, ... are still there, though. The worst part is that I cannot receive calls anymore either, in this case. Callers are immediately redirected to my mailbox, even though the phone has a signal and I can make outgoing calls without problems. The only way to fix this is a factory reset.
The next night, the same happens again.
Has anybody had a similar problem? Does anybody have an idea how to fix it?
Thanks and regards,
Andy

I'm sorry that I have no advice for you Andy, but I'm interested in hearing any solutions you may find.
What firmware/ROM are you using?

I am still using the stock Froyo ROM that the phone came with. The phone is rooted and I've installed a SpeedMod Kernel. However, both (rooting and new kernel) have happened months ago, so I doubt that they have anything to do with the problem.
(partial) solution found
Since a phone that crashes every night, using all settings in the process, is fairly useless, I decided that I might just as well trash it completely by trying (and maybe failling ) to install a custom firmware. So I downloaded Darky 10.1 and thanks to an excellent installation guide, I actually managed to install it.
Since then, my phone does no longer crash every night - it now reboots a couple of times a day The good thing is, though that after the reboot, the phone is back "in action" after maybe two minutes and it does not lose any data, setting or anything. So, it's not ideal, but much better than before ...
I was going to recommend trying a new ROM, but I found that as a workaround rather than a solution to your problem.
Did you perform a wipe or no-wipe install?

As I had pointed out in my first post, the crash that happens every night breaks something so that I can no longer receive calls and have to do a factory reset. Thus, the phone was basically wiped, already, before I did the installation and I then did a no-wipe install.
You are right, of course that this is more of a work around than a solution, but since I was thinking about putting on a new ROM for a while, already, anyways, it is a fairly good work around for me - and I really like Gingerbread and DarkyROM so far.

In the end it turned out to be a hardware problem and I needed to get the phone replaced.
I installed that update that upgraded the phone to 4.4.3 and enabled Wi-Fi calling about a week ago. And since then, the SMS app has been incredibly laggy to the point where it is near unusable. I am not exaggerating, it takes literally about 20 seconds from me tapping a letter, for the phone to vibrate that it recognized I touched the screen and display the letter on the screen.
I know that internally the SMS is working fine since I can get replies back on my Pebble before the message I sent that they are replying too even appears on my screen.
Also, this only happens to specific contacts, but always the same ones.
Everything was working perfectly before this update, but directly after installing it this happened. Any ideas?

Backup & do a hard reset will take care of it. I always recommend doing a hard reset after any kinda of big update anyway. I would also do a profile update once the hard reset is complete. There was some issues with connectivity for this update that a profile update should take care of, although it's not going to solve your sms problem.

Wouldn't restoring the backup bring the problems back though?

It's possible, doesn't really hurt to try. I usually try and restore as little data as possible and do everything by hand. One thing you can do if you wanna keep your sms, is export it, then import sms only back in after the rest. I have had good luck with it. Certain apps I use titanium backup to restore, but a lot of stuff I do by hand. I have tried HTC's backup on a friends phone, it actually worked better than I thought. Sometimes it's nice to not do a backup (other than like sms & photos) It will clear out the old apps you don't wanna use.
hello everyone, i need some help with this issue i'm having.
i'm currently fixing a GT-9070 with a rather odd problem: everytime it reboots, it's like it's stuck in somewhere around last year, it even displays as unread a text message the phone received back then. the time and date are reset to factory settings, and basically everything done before reboot just disappears.
some kind of groundhog day stuff going on.
what could it be? so far i've only tried doing a factory reset, to no avail.
usually googling the problem does the trick, but since i found no similar cases, i didn't want to try any more radical methods before having some information on about what's causing the issue in the first place.
the firmware is xxld1, let me know if i need to post any more specs
thanks in advance
I've seen a couple of phones with this same problem, an i8190 and an s7500L, i could never figure out the cause...
Tried flashing everything in Odin, all success, but no change at all.
Tried wiping in recovery, success, but no change at all.
Tried flashing pit and FAIL instantly.
You can use the phone normally, call, text, install apps and everything. Once it reboots it's back to first square.
