Hi out there,
A friend of mine has got a milestone (gsm) and problems with flashing recovery and custom rom.
he says he has got root, but when he tries to flash recovery it says "no root rights" (via root console with su). moreover, his recovery is a .zip and not a .img which i was used to (am a htc hero owner). through not having custom recovery, he cant install custom roms, seems like no root on boot.
anyone can help? as the procedure on htc hero seems to be completely different i cant help him, will give him this link so he can see
thank you,

Dear Dudes
AMON_RA ... if you see this please HEEEELP
I'm newbie to flashing custom ROMs, but indeed a linux expert.
I try to boot into recovery mode, but that DAMN exclamation appears.
I SWEAR I have deleted that nasty install-recovery.sh file as many instructed, first renamed, then removed.
But still boots to stock image recovery!!!!!
2.2.1 stock ROM, rooted, no boot loader not unlocked.
HEEEEEEEEEEEEEEELP
If I'm not mistaken, I think there are 2 files you need to delete to rid yourself of the stock recovery. I have my bootloader unlocked so I just use fastboot. Much easier.
I found the init.rc
edited and remarked that line...
everytime I reboot...the remark goes away automatically!!!!
Its because youre running a stock rom. No matter how many times you install custom recovery, the stock recovery will restore when you restart your phone. If youre unlocked, install a custom rom, then install recovery.
Install your custom recovery, then delete these two files.
/system/recovery-from-boot.p
/system/etc/install-recovery.sh
How are you installing your custom recovery?

Hi there, after rooting my phone with the "DoomLord's via Zergrush Exploit" , and after installing rom manager and flashing clockworkmod. I just can't access it.
If I load into the bootloader and click recovery, I get an image with a ! sign and a picture of an android, the same happens when I load recovery through rom manager. I have flashed the recovery twice now and my phone's just not having it. My phone works no problem, I just dont understand it
All I want to do is to make a backup and install a custom rom
Am I doing somthing wrong?
(Yes, my bootloader is locked BTW)
Very simple - you didn't flash the recovery properly, so you're getting to stock recovery.
Yup like Jack_R1 stated, the flash didn't stick or you didn't do it right.
Open Rom Manager, at the top it will tell you what recovery you have.
Does it show anything?
You could also try adb if you have that setup
http://wiki.cyanogenmod.com/wiki/Nexus_One:_Full_Update_Guide#Installing_a_Custom_Recovery_Image
You could even install it via terminal on your phone
Heck try this recovery, it's good
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1291970
Try THIS. Install the application and it will install the best recovery
Rom manager tells me that i have clockworkmod 5.0.2.0
I'll try installing the recovery through terminal when i get back to my pc
Sent from my Nexus One using XDA App
EDIT: Having seen the other recovery you've stated, i'll try and install that.
Also, does it matter about which version of android i'm running? could that result of a bad install of the recovery through clockworkmod?
Its 2.3.4 stock rom if anyone's intrested
FINAL EDIT:
Thank you!
4EXT flashed perfectly, after using the app to reboot into the bootloader, it loaded up that. Many thanks!
I am having problems trying to flash a custom recovery on 2.32.651.2
I cant get flash_image command to work with the android sdk or terminal on the phone. busybox is installed
Also can't install rom manager from the market so i can get cw recovery working. Not compatible with the hero
I have searched and read most of the older posts that where having similar problems but they all just where able to solve with either options above.
Is there any other way to get a recovery on this thing?
Thx for the help
Edit.. So i found a put flash_image on per this thread http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=902493
Now when i try and run the command i get
[1] + Stopped (signal) flash_image recovery /sdcard/recovery.img
Are you rooted ??? Are you cdma or gsm ?? How did you obtain root ?? What radio/baseband are you ???
#Root-Hack_Mod*Always\
I bought this off CL on the cheep after I lost my 3d. It is a Sprint CDMA hero that had the last 2.1 firmware and radio on it. It also appears that it was a refirb unit that came from asurion.
Anyways i was able to root it quick with Htc sync drivers and Superoneclick.
It worked the first time, just it doesn't put a custom recovery on your phone for you like some of the other rooting methods out there for lower firmware versions.
Searching threw the forums and trying many different methods to get the custom recovery installed, i failed. After awhile I was able to find a old rom manager apk that i was able to install and get cw recovery working with no issues.
After that i went on my mary flashing way for s-off, newer recovery found in dastin1015 sig, and the beautiful Zero Hero rom.
Hello there fellow XDA members,
I just got a Nexus One and it is giving me quite a headache right now...
I am unlocked (using fastboot) and rooted (SuperOneClick) but cannot get into recovery / flash roms.
I have tried:
1.) Installing ROManager,4EXT, etc. apks, but get parsing errors in android
2.) Install CWM through fastboot, but get stuck on the logo when I boot into recovery
3.) Install ROManager, 4EXT, etc through adb, but get "INSTALL_FAILED_OLDER_SDK" error.
About my phone:
Firmware 2.1-update 1
Baseband: 32.240.22U_4.03.00.21_2
Kernel: 2.6.29-01117-g4bc62c2
Build number ERE27
If anyone could offer some help in getting me to a working ICS rom, I would be very grateful.
EDIT: Was able to use ARMONs recovery just aye okay, guess I freaked out too early. Just flashed an ICS ROM, time to see if it works okay!
EDIT 2: ROM doesn't seem to be rooted, but so far so good
Do you have Blackrose installed?
And I can safely say that *every* custom ROM you will find here is rooted.
Hi,
I got my brother's old HTC One M7 and tried to flash the ROM.
I have experience with Samsung Devices so I figured it worked the same way.
I install cyanogenmod using their installer. It worked, but dreadfully slow (slower than the stock rom).
So I downloaded Android Revolution 53.0, put in the /Downloads folder and went into recover and tried to install from zip.
It appeared as if the installation went through, and now the phone is stuck on the HTC quietly brilliant screen.
I can go into HBOOT, FASTBOOT, RECOVERY.. But I can't seem to get past it.
Just went into recovery and see "No OS installed! Are you sure you wish to reboot?"
Please help!
Thanks.
First question....what version recovery are you using

To revive this thread.
So, I was able to figure out the original problem or at least get around it.
For whatever reason Android Revolution HD wouldn't install despite trying to flash the ROM using TWRP or CWM recovery.
I was able to get CyanogenMod and LiquidSmooth to work without issues.
I later used a Nandroid backup of a Bell Mobility (CID BM____001) and return it to "stock" JB.
I'm trying to get KIT KAT on it, I get the OTA update notification, but after it initiates the installation, device reboots into my custom recovery.
So, I tried to flash the stock BM recovery, and BM Stock KitKat install starts, but then I get a teal and pink screen back to back and get stuck on the HTC / Beats screen.
Any help is appreciated.
OK, your first problem sounds like you didnt flash the Boot.img first through fastboot, before trying to install the ARHD Rom, extract it from the zip file you downloaded and flash it through fastboot, then flash the rom, I believe Sense Roms (ARHD) will not work on non sense rom boots like CyanogenMod.
Post 3 problem is you need to install the stock recovery first.
Thanks for the quick response.
I've gotten further than where I was about an hour ago.
I realized when I flashed the stock recovery for BM_001, it was an older version (mismatched my ROM).
I flashed the the stock recovery version of my stock ROM, and I was able to get KIT KAT.
Now, it's doing a 2nd OTA update to get SENSE 6.
Will post update as soon as it's done. Hopefully it's successful.
