Hello everyone what is difference between this or T-Mobile version? Are they same I wana use it on wind/mobilicity in Canada wana know if both have 1700 and 2100 3g band. Cause T-Mobile phones work on wind/mobilicity if they are unlocked if I had to buy one which should I get? Which is better and y? Thanks

I think Tmobile G2xworks on wind/mobilicity
The Optimus 2x (O2x) does not work with wind/mobilicty according to this:
(Voice yes/data no)
LG P990 Optimus 2X
2G Network: GSM 850 / 900 / 1800 / 1900
3G Network: HSDPA 900 / 1900/ 2100
As for the difference, I assume only the brand logo on the screen or maybe some Tmobile apps.

I m too looking to waiting to get this into Canada.
However I'm worry about the freeze and otherse problem with this phone.
I'm holding it out until they have a *offical* fix and confirm it is not a hardware problem.
I have all the time untill SGS2 drops to around the price of this phone =)!
Plus it seems like the Motorola Atrix have reboot issue too..
My guess is a problem with the tegra 2 problem with software.. who knows...
*Edit* notice you're from Vancouver, how is mobilicity/wind service there?
Heard reception are crap =/
Mobilicity is awesome but wind service is crap. 10$ for unlimited data and mobilicity towers are built and maintain by Ericsson. Call quality is very good and clear. Even mobilesyrup.com said it. Ya also wanted sgs2 but no 1700 and 2100 band. I don't believe the random shutdown problem till I buy the phone.

I'm looking to purchase a Galaxy S next month. I live in the USA, but I travel to Thailand every year. I'd like to get one phone that will work on both AT&T and AIS for both voice and data. (3G on both would be great!) While traveling in Thailand, I really want to be able to tether my netbook through the phone.
Anyone have recommendations as to which Galaxy S I should get?
over in Europe + Asia they only have 1 model
they all come with triband 3G WCDMA 900/1900/2100
and quad band Voice/EDGE 850/900/1900/2100
so you wont go wrong in getting any Galaxy S as "There Is Only One" (hmmm... sounds which movie was it from?)
unless you get the wrong Galaxy Lite, or Galaxy 5000 series, or Galaxy 8000 series or Galaxy 7000 series
My concern is the 3G WCDMA 850MHz vs 900 MHz for data. I know that AT&T uses 850 MHz, but AIS in Thailand is using 900 MHz. While it's true that 3G is just starting to roll out in Thailand (limited coverage and all), I would like to get a phone that I'll be able to use when they do get it all covered.
If I get an unlocked Captivate for use on the AT&T network, would putting in a sim from AIS automatically switch the 3G WCDMA over to the 900 MHz band (if available)?
Or is the radio hardware-fixed on this? (I've searched for an answer on this, but can't find a straight answer.)
there is no phone with both 850 and 900 3g...
I think your only chance for a 3G phone that works in both USA and Thailand is the Captivate. True Move in Thailand has 3G on 850mhz, which the Captivate uses.

That's what I thought, but I wasn't sure. I guess the GSM radio is separate from the 3G CDMA radio (since the GSM can do both 850 and 900).

I'll be traveling to Trat and Koh Chang. True doesn't have coverage there as far as I can tell.
Anyway, thanks for the info!
i would buy the i9000m from canada or the i9000t or i9000b from south america b4 the captivate.. captivate.. has poor 3g upload, and no front camera.

As far as I can tell, there's no 3G coverage in Trat and Koh Chang from any operator in Thailand. You'll only get GPRS/EDGE coverage there.
Hi alls, I wish I had better news to bring. The good news is, as expected, the 2X runs stock Froyo.
Now the kicker: as you are all probably aware, At&t has gobbled up T-mobile. This means that when the transition is complete (expected a year to 18 months from now) At&t will drop T-Mobile's 3G bands to EDGE.
It may not affect some owners but for me, I usually keep a device until a big hardware refresh comes about- like a quad-core chip. I'm skipping the 2x for the Galaxy II or the Optimus 3D. I was on the verge of owning this...
Luckily the normal 2X do support UMTS 1900 (one of the 3G bands AT&T use), that's why I am consider buying it off contract from other place and use it on AT&T

Let me understand: do you mean the non-US version of the 2x, the off-contract US retail model, or both? Thanks!
It's been reported that the G2x will support T-Mo *and* AT&T bands:
http://www.anandtech.com/show/4231/lg-optimus-2x-coming-to-usa-as-tmobile-g2x-
UMTS/HSDPA/HSUPA Support 1700 / 2100 (AWS) / 1900 / 850 MHz
So you can rest assured that T&A-Mobile will support the bands on your phone right through to the bitter end of HSPA over AWS, right?
Ha! I was spying Engaget & Giz all afternoon yesterday & the announcement was made @ Anand...! Thanks for the heads up!
at&t hasn't officially bought T-Mobile yet -_-
An acquisition of this magnitude might not even be legal, it has to be approved by the FCC and the DOJ
Just checked the specs on this new phone on the T-Mobile spec sheet that was posted on T-MO News ad and that device supports both T-Mobile and AT&T's 3G Networks. I had to recheck it over 10 times during the day in case it was a miss print and they are still posted.
Has anyone else found any news that is different???

Yes, this says different. (Dang it, I can't post links. Search on Engadget.com for "T-Mobile G2x lacks quadband HSPA+, shatters dreams")
That said, I'm still curious to find out if anybody else has tried the the 2X or the G2x on AT&T yet. I'm not smart enough to understand what the lack of 850 3G means. Is that an upload speed? So would I be able to download zippily on the 2100 Mhz band but my upload would take forever?
Seeking original poster or the multitudes smarter than me for answer.

Further adding:
I'm interested in potentially buying the Optimus 2X (900/1900/2100 UMTS) not the G2x (1700/2100 UMTS). Anybody able to explain why the 2X may not work with AT&T, or share experience with it working?
The 2x will give you 3G on only the 1900 band with At&t, and not on the 850 band. So your 3G coverage will be worse than phones designed for the carrier. It will not get 3G on T-mobile.
You may as well just wait for the "Thrill 4G".

what are the speed test for this phone on tmobile?
and so if it dosent get 3g will it be getting edge?
Just in case someone finds this thread again, the G2X DOES NOT support *any* AT&T 3G frequencies:
http://www.phonedog.com/2011/04/27/...-quad-band-hspa-plus-won-t-work-with-at-t-3g/
It was a screw-up by T-Mobile to say it did.
I have been posting in the optimus forum for help. I just noticed last night in a topic yesterday that LG Thrill and LG Optimus 3D are the same, except Thrill is 4G.
My phone is called LG Optimus 3D p925g, it's from rogers and I got it October 2011. It's 4G.
is mine the same as Thrill?
What happens if I use LG Optimus 3D 3G roms on a 4G?
Nothing happens. It's the same.
ok Thrill must be an american brand name or something.
when I flashed cyanogen mod ROM I remember seeing my 4G turn into 3G icon. Does it actually change to 3G or no?
also is this forum more active for help? I wonder why they have 2 forums if 4G/3G is only difference.
It's not even real 4G though. So it's all good.
The other difference is that the basebands are different.
One is international, the other is not.

not real 4G? What are you talking about.
I don't know what basebands are so okay.
Well if it says 4G, you're getting almost the same speed as 4G. There's a detailed explanation somewhere. I gotta find it.
Its 3.5g the way i have it my p925g. Always says 4g i dont know why even if i dont havr 4g speeds
4G implies 4th generation technology and standards. Ignoring the fact our '4G' is actually HSDPA+ (which is pretty much what 3G was supposed to be, but they did the same marketing BS with 3G)... we are nowhere close to the simple basic, no BS 4G standards of 100MBPS+ data speeds, with true multi-tower connections.
As well, all 4G means for most GSM carriers is that the phone has the HSPDA+ protocol enabled, and the towers in that region have the same... which is a simple software upgrade. You could be on a 500Kb connection, but they call it 4G simply because it has HSPDA+ protocol delivering those 2G speeds with a 3G technology.
The closest thing to true 4G on the market is LTE, which is totally new radio technology and tower technology, not simply a software upgrade that increases speedo's top speed from 5Mbps to 45Mbps, even though the motor is still only capable of 2Mbps.
The motor, btw, is the tower backhaul, and that is the real bottleneck in all of this and is what will determine your actual speeds. As it stands, there isn't enough hard line bandwidth out there to give true 4G speeds, and likely will be 5+ years before there is.
By then we will be on "6G" and some will still be running sub 1Mbps connections despite the hype.
ya we got lte phones hear now system isnt even up but rogers is claming its going to be 150mbps downloads
The Only difference
Thrill 4G Networks GSM 850 / 900 / 1800 / 1900
HSDPA 850 / 1900 / 2100
Optimus 3D networks GSM 850 / 900 / 1800 / 1900
HSDPA 900 / 1900 / 2100
HSDPA 850 / 1700 / 2100
maybe it is
HSDPA 900 / 1900 / 2100
OR
HSDPA 850 / 1700 / 2100
because 1700 / 2100 mean AWS and i don't think this phone (p925g) is aws
don't know what to do.
Hi,
someone offer me a Lg p925G from rogers which is unlocked. the problem: I live in france, when I put a french sim in the phone didn't find no network at all even a simple GSM; I tried to register manually to my network (the phone find it) but say that 's impossible to connect it. The phone is under the last V20C rom from rogers.
My question is simple: is that a hardware problem with the frequencies? or just a problem from the rom?
thanks a lot!
UPDATE: please ream my post from March 13. Thanks !!!
Hi!
Today at the table in lunch room I noticed that buddy next to me had 3G connection on his iPhone. But I had only EDGE. So the obvious question is WHY? Should I play around with baseband+RIL? Any other suggestions?
Thanks in advance!

Yes, we are on the same network. Yes, I have 2G/3G enabled - at home I get 3G/H.
Any other ideas?

Your phone doesnt support the network frequency. Optimus 2x does 900 and 2100mhz 3g. If your provider uses 850/1900 for example its not going to work is it?

Do you think iPhone has more frequences than 2x?
As I said in OP, at home (50 km from work where my buddy gets 3G and I don't) I get 3G and H. So my phone is capable. As far I tested 725 and 218 BB+RIL. Tomorrow will try 823 (can't flash BB at work).
Thanks anyway!

iPhone 4 3G supports: 3G Network HSDPA 850 / 900 / 1900 / 2100
2x: 3G Network HSDPA 900 / 1900 / 2100
So yes we're missing the 850mhz band, which is unfortunate because the best provider in Australia uses 850mhz 3G, I only get 2G EDGE when I put a Telstra sim in my phone.
Ok, quest continues...
I tested 823 bb - same thing...
Yesterday my another buddy got used LG P925 (3D) and asked me to root it. So I did.
And when I tested his his phone with my sim at the same spot - I had 4G symbol and Speedtest showed ping around 150 and download speed around 2000 kbs. My LG P990 is on Edge and has ping close to 1000 speeds around 200... WTF?
Here the only difference :
my phone is from UK and his is specifically Canadian (we are in Canada ).
But I checked LG UK site and it says that phone has 850-900-1800-1900 bands, exactly as my buddies.
My buddies P925 says UMTS network, while mine only HSPA... Does it makr a difference?
I really like my phone but being on Edge kills me... I guess I will return this phone and try to find used Canadian one...
Any ideas?
ADDED: I read and read and read and finally read about European phones not having 850 frequency enabled... I guess this is my case - my phone is from Europe and buddies - Canadian. So I found how to get to hidden menu on stock ROM and modify preffered frequencies. But is there any way to get there in CM7? Ideas ???
ADDED 2: ok, looks like European o2x doesn't have WCDMA850 enabled... Here my experiment:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=23588400&postcount=16
Is there any way to enable WCDMA850 band through some menu? (I've read that Samsung has such feature)
Thread can be closed...
Hi everybody!
I think thread should be closed - I find the answer.
This European phone doesn't support WCDMA850, only 900, 1900 and 2100. So in my case in the little Ontario town I didn't have 3G connection because Rogers (provides) has only CDMA850 band for 3G...
Only big cities have 3G in WCDMA1900 band...
Just all of you know.
With best regards!

Well, it depends on the type of o2x you have.
I have an SU660, which unlike what's written in the GSM Arena, does not have 1700 band. So, I learned the hard way and found out a little too late (which I also noted about this in another post) that mine cannot use 3G on T-mobile USA.
OP's O2X is P990, which should work on AT&T. See here:
