whats the latest swype ver i can use with cm7 on my cappy? when i restore from tibu it says used for a different device or something like that, i forgot. just give me a version number or something..theres too many files on mobilism.org and i dont wanna do that beta testing you always have to renew it everynow and then..i just need the latest ver apk file install and use it continually..thanks a lot!
i have also used an older ver but for those who can tell..the newer versions have nicer bigger keys like theyre all spread out..the older ones are smaller and kinda darker..new on is nicer looking and i have big fingers..thank you again.
No one in the CM7 Q&A thread knows?
The ROM-specific stickies are here for exactly this kind of thing. Post there instead of starting a new thread.

Sorry if this question has been asked before. I did a search but could not find anything so it may be a matter of how I worded my search. I am currently running Cyanogen 4.2.5. I upgraded to CM4.2.7, but decided to go back to CM4.2.5 so that I could continue to use a theme that I really liked. So my question is, is it bad to go backwards with roms? I have found a theme that I really want to try, but it was created for a much older Cyanogen rom. It was actually created for CM4.0.4. Is this considered a bad thing with the G1? Mods feel free to move this thread if the Q&A section is the wrong place.
My specs
G1/Dream
CM4.2.5
NabzHero theme
Haykuro's Danger SPL
DRC83 build
Moving backwards as far as ROM's go isn't harmful if that's what you mean by "is it bad".
If the theme hasn't been updated since 4.0.4 it will not be compatible. The build has changed from the ground up since then.
Thanks for the quick reply. Let me make sure I understand you correctly. If the theme I found was made for Cyanogen 4.0.4 and I flash the Cyanogen 4.0.4 Rom it still wont work because the build is different? By build do you mean the fact that I'm on DRC83 is the reason it wont work?
Thanks
Contact the maker of the theme and ask them to remake it as a Metamorph theme. Then it should be good forever.
I liked NabzHero too, but updates were kinda non existent. Enoch is similar, updates with in hours of the new CM version and is available via the CM updater.
Wish Enoch would change the tab for the drawer though...I don't like the way it looks.
Off to pm Enoch...
Simple answer: No, it's not harmful, bad, or wrong to go back and use an older version of a ROM. But, if you're using an old ROM, don't be surprised if something you find here that says it works on Cyanogen won't work--it may be intended only for the latest version.
The build is fundamentally different since 4.0.4, but you can still go back and use it. But, you may have to do a wipe from recovery before you flash it. Just try flashing 4.0.4 over 4.2.7.1, and if you get errors, reboot recovery, do a full wipe, and flash 4.0.4 again.
Since everything I need to know is scattered across various threads and there is no specific information regarding my question AFAIK so I decided to post a new thread. Forgive a newb for being worried.
I've decided to root my N1 and am running the EPF24B European build. I just had some questions and concerns:
1. What ROM do you think is best? I think the majority of people like Cyanogen.
2. If I root my phone now and flash on Cyanogen, when Cyanogen releases a Froyo ROM how will I update? Does that happen through a dedicated app? OTA?
3. How do I keep all my current programs and settings? I've heard of Nandroid but have no idea what it does. I presume it has something to do with the NAND memory?
4. btw how stable is a rooted phone?
5. I've seen a number of guides here, but don't know whether or not they are the latest versions. Can anyone point me to a proper guide? Or are they all the same?
Thanks if anyone can answer this.

you might get flamed for this or get this thread closed but i will try to help u.
1)while cyanogen is the best rom in my opinion, froyo is the ****. no matter what. and when cyanogen finally puts his touches on it, it will be even better.
3)no you cant keep them. u would have to be ROOTED first and then you can use titanium backup to make a backup or all your settings and freeze apps. til then, nope u have to completely wipe and start over again. i know when i switch from rom to rom, google automatically downloads the apps that i have had installed before i switch roms if that helps you any.
4)rooted phones are VERY stable and even faster than stock. more memory, runs smoother. the only one that might not run as smooth is the Desire Rom because of sense ui but i love sense ui and have it on my G1 but yes rooted phones are stable.
5)i have followed the instructions of this guide that was for macs tho. u have to be a bit specific if your on mac or pc
I'm using a PC.
And thanks for your input.
btw you didn't answer question 2. If I update to CM now, will I be able to update OTA when a Froyo version comes out?
Hi bit of a beginners questions but how do a port an application from one rom to another.
A am currently running MicroMod's 2.5 Rom but the FM radio isn't as good as the one on Cyanogen so I thought I would install it on Micromods rom.
This is what I tried, open up the nighlty build of NC rom, went to system/apps and copied the fm.apk to my sdcard. Then I installed it using Astro in Micromods but when I try to use it I get force closes.
I suspect it different or missing ddls files but unsure were to look to find this out.
Any ideas
Im pretty sure the fm.apk is linked to the CM6 framework so it would only work on CM6 atm...
I would also like to know the best way to do try to do this in general. Ive always wanted to put the browser from cm into an enom rom but the same thing happens as op said and it just fc's. If I were to use root explorer or 7zip to unzip the apk is there a specific place to look to see what other files need to be where in order for the apk to function properly?
it's pretty complicated which is why people tend to avoid it. You basically need to copy the right sections of Cyanogen's framework code into MicroMod's framework.. and since I believe MicroMod's ROM is based on HTC, that would involve some disassembly (look into smali/baksmali), but that would require some knowledge of assembly language.
It's a LOT of work, and a lot of testing (and swearing.. haha). Hate to discourage you.. but if anyone knows of a better (and more feasible) way I would love to hear it
I honestly doubt it's possible. CyanogenMod uses the MIUI method for the FM radio, which is most likely completely different than HTC's proprietary method. Kwazi is right though, it lies deep within the framework.
Noob question here, or major brain fart...
I just installed a kitchen rom. and all things work pretty good. I want to install a theme on my SGS.
But i'm a bit confused as to what all the versions that themes are compatible on mean.
The base rom version i got was the ZSJPJ one. (I also have ZSJPK but i screwed up some apps so i went back to JPJ) i can always cook up another JPK one.
When i browse themes, i can't seem to find one that says it's made for JPJ. They all are made for different versions, and i'm coming to think i'm just missing something... For example a theme will say made for JPU/X/Y. Will that work with mine? Should i be trying the JVx ones? or the JSx ones?
Any insight would be appreciated...
JPx and JSx work fine.
JVx are fror Gingerbread (not the same framework).
okok, thanks. I was making sure... cause i dled one of the JPx ones and it caused some FC's when i booted up. Maybe it was just that theme.
Make a Wipe Dalvik cache after installing your new theme.
My girlfriend's old flip phone broke, so I set her up on my old G1 with cyanogen 4.
She likes it but it is android 1.6 so a lot of apps don't work.
I see a lot of roms talking about flashing radios and such and am lost (I am spoiled by safestrap on my D4).
Was looking for a good gingerbread or later rom that will function (calls, wifi, gps,bt,audio, camera, etc) and a detailed how to on flashing the rom and any required radios/kernals/etc. I tried cyanogen 6.1, but it kept rebooting.
Thanks in advance.
EzGingerbread is very stable and eeks just about every last drop of speed the old G1 is capable of providing. The opening post of that thread has pretty extensive instructions.
He also provides links to older versions of apps that work well. Newer versions of some apps like Maps are just too bloated to run on the G1.

Check out Royalknight6190s ROM Bible, and my recently posted G1 Oracle. I would recommend Feoyo by Laszlo, or any of the variants. Gingerbread is not a great idea on the G1. Take a look in the G1 XDA wiki for guides. Google's a good resource as well.
Do your own research if you want a ROM that lives up to your OWN personal needs. Which will probably be speed on a G1. So go for something old and lightweight.
Also, this is a development forum this thread should be in Q&A.
I agree that Froyo by Lazlo was a good build, but you will need to flash a different kernel over it - either Farmatito's or EZTerry's. There's a known battery drain bug with the stock kernel.
thanks for the input guys, I finally hunted down the old hboot and danger spl files, as well as a tiny gapps and have cm6.1 on it.
I might have to add in the EZTERRY 14mb hack, but that will have to come later.
