HD7, 7392, 3900mah=10hrs!?!? - HD7 General

is HD7 really a battery sucker?
i got a mugen 3900mah battery, no email schedule, wifi off, bt off, location on, 20 sms, 20 mins of gaming. no calls. screen brightness auto. 3G data allowed.
wth.
any tips on battery saving?

I have 1230mAh(default) battery , playing 15min , 60-70sms , 1 hour talking , wifi on , 3g off
keeps charge approximately 1.5 days
I think the problem is in ur battery

LOL, i think i just need to calibrate my battery. I've been playing games for 2 hrs. and it's still on it's last? bar? wifi-on and listening to internet radio for 4 hrs. and the phone hasnt shutdown.

With the extended batteries I believe that the os battery indicator becomes inaccurate because of the extended battery and how it reads it.

I'm not even sure Windows Phone 7 supports extended batteries , but if it does, then it is probably due to a lack of calibration or poor quality.

Same with me, i got a Yoobao 2200Mah, and when the battery is low i pull it out and put it back in and im back to 100% charge. im going to fully flatten it again to see if it helps

Diamond battery consumption

looks like I have made my life's worst decision of buying Diamond.
This diamond sucks battery like leech. The battery drops 25% within 10 mins of talk with
all programs off, only phone functions on. Another few calls ( 10-20 mins) and some config settings the battery is flat at 28%. Guys ! are you facing the same. I did some observations,
It takes appx 460ma + while on call( screen on ) ,
drops to 275ma + while on call when the screen is off.
goes to 440ma + for GPRS ( internet , data etc) ( phone on )
takes appx 150ma + with Bluetooth on (( phone on ))
goes to 175ma+ with WIFI on (( phone on ))
remains IDLE with 50ma+ ( no call phone On)
I am checking this on battery status and Power gaurd.
Please suggest if the above power consumptions patterns are fine....
ROM : 1.37.720.2 WWE
ROM Date : 06/16/08
Radio version 1.00.25.03
Left for work this morning at 9:30 (yes, I was late) with my battery at 100%.
Talked for about 40 min, updated weather 3 or 4 times, read for about 20 min during lunch break.
When I got back home at 18:30, my battery was at 68%.
Please note that I applied most (if not all) of the tweaks found on this site. Oh, and my screen backlighting was on Auto.

Update your ROM and also make sure you use the .05 radio, as it has been shown to be better with battery life.
I find on average my phone will last 2 and a half days or so with moderate usage (i.e. few calls/day, texts, internet, few apps run, bit of gps), you may also consider changing your screen brightness to a low'ish setting as this will help preserve battery life and turning gprs off manually. but I do keep mine on auto brightness and with GPRS on the normal default setting
a friend of mine uses the standard radio (.03) without using any tweaks and his battery lasts about 2 days (he calls a lot of people, uses wifi at least once a day)...
I can't tell my experiences because I'm using tweaks...
I've been having similar problems, with the battery sometimes lasting just 12 hours with no usage at all.
Yesterday, my battery ran completely flat, but today things are loads better (still 50% left after 13 hours, including some calls and browsing on 3G/HSDPA).
I'm starting to think that the problems were being caused by a program running in the background which got killed when my phone battery ran out. I'll do some tests over the next few days to try to find out, but I guess the main possibilities are GSen, Opera, Google Maps, or ActiveSync.
Has anyone else experienced similar problems with any of these apps?

My baby will get me through the whole laboral day 8:00am to around 7:30pm.
When I get home batt is around 10% left. I let it die then charge.
On the phone for about 40 30 minutes on various calls.
Weather check twice.
Emails 4 times.
And a quick look at xda-developers.
Works fine, you just have to learn how to manage the Diamond. Im still waiting for a new battery though.

A bit OT, but the Li-Ion batteries doesn't like to die out completely.
I had a phone interview today, around 55 min speaking and the battery dropped from 100% to 70%, so not that bad!

As far as I know it's OK to do a full charging cycle every some time, like once per month or so.
My battery easily lasts 2 days with moderate use
I get 2 days out of mine - note also that battery life improves markedly after a few charging cycles - mine ran down scarily fast the first 2 or 3 days!

This is what I know:
Every battery (doesent matter what kind) has for example 1000 charge cycles that will be 100% Strong. After the 1000 charges the rate starts to fall. You get only 90% after the 1000 charges ect.......
Soooo
You have to make the best out of your charges. The best way of doing this is by drastically cutting of charge sessions. You let it die and then charge it FULLY (and by fully i say till the Diamond tells you its full with its kick a** full circle.
Thats all fellas. Lucks to all!

Same with me. The first two or three days I was barely getting a whole day. I use push email constantly and make regular calls. I occaisonally use GPS. My battery happily lasts two days, although it is very low by the end of the second day. I also turn the phone off overnight.

I found this to be my biggest problem. If I turn this on my battery is fully flat in about 6 hours. Until my new 1800mah battery arrives, i'm back to pop/smtp.
Just to be on the safe side I bought a cradle which also charges a spare battery, an extra ordinary size battery and every night charge the device and the spare. First thing in the morning I swap the batteries over and pack the fully charged spare. Got mine from gpsforless and it cost £17.99 with the spare battery. Bargain.
blimey, that was a bargain considering it includes a spare battery as well!

Got the same one. So far the battery life has not been great but I am hoping it will improve over time as some people are reportin. Will get a 1800 battery for power use.

I had exactly the same problem where my diamond battery barely lasted 3 hours.
Turned out to be a faulty phone, not the battery. Tell tale sign is if the Diamond gets hot below the battery, not the actual battery

Diamond battery life

Hi all,
I have been testing (sofar day 5) how long can my HTC Diamond last on standby without needing to recharge.
Phone is constantly on (day and night). It is on standby i.e. screen off, but the power is on. So every time I tap the little power button it shows me how much (%) of the battery is left.
I am on day 5 and the battery is 66%.
Will update tomorrow.
I don't know if anyone done this before, but I am trying to find out, how long will battery actually last in real world (in standby).
Cheers.
Are you just using Flight Mode?
And none of them is turning on ?
1. 2G / 3G phone (stay at one place / moving day & night )
2. Wi-Fi
3. Bluetooth
day 6
DAY6......checked battery status this evening.....52% left.
Phone is on standby (screen off). Everything else is on.
This is just my little experiment. Probably does not make sense to many, but maybe someday, someone would wanna know that, how long the battery lasts this way
to ykwong
sorry did not notice someone has replied.
phone is essentially in flight mode.....phone itself is off (no calls coming in or out)
but, Bluetooth and WIFI is on. Everytime I check for battery status....it notifies me of my WIFI connection.
If your mobile is in standby Wi-Fi and Bluetooth even if they are turned on are in standby too (except when you turn it on to check battery charge) thus they don't consume power.
Ive been testing mine aswell andi've found i lose 6% every 8 hours, thats with minimal use and screen off once used. radio 1.25.00.5 and the offficial 1.93 rom and with settings from shcaps advanced config.
wifi is turned off automatically when in standby mode, and turned on when you activate the phone again unless you've done a registry hack to force it on.
Moreover this test is quite useless as battery life consumption depends on the power of the signal, your battery can easily last half the usual time if the signal is weak and twice longer if you just under a cell

Indeed, thats true.
Battery life is poor
I got Diamond 2 days ago. What I noticed was the battery life is appalling actually. I charged full and with normal usage (ie, 5-6 calls lasting about altogether lasting less than an hour and some pplaying around) it doesnt last more than a day. Battery shows 10% at the end of the day. Is that normal? Or is it just mine. (By the way 3G on, Wifi, bluetooth off)
I charge mine twice a day...
i have to charge mine everyday after work and im not using in THAT much, some calls and checking some mails. the batterytime really sucks, my old phones have loads of better batterytime, so what if i surf some on the net and checking some videos to do i have to charge it every hour or what? really sucks :/
htc has released a new battery for longer standby time. the battery volumn is 1350MA, with a back cover. the price is around 40 pounds.
unlike the third party battery some of us have bought, does the gps still work with this one?

How much volume and weight doe it add up to the sleek diamond? Does it not kill the joy? What will be the difference then b/w diamond and raphael thickness and weight??
day7
today.....power at 43%
to posters: I know that this test may sound pointless to some. All I am saying that someone someday may find this informative.
If you have the phone off, there's no point in this test - at all. When the screen turns off, wifi turns off as well. This would be the most battery consuming application you have, so it would last a long time regardless of battery or phone.
My settings shows fully loaded battery but the ROM update screen tells me that i have less than 50% available. Who is correct? And is there a way to unload the battery totally w/o having the diamond on all the way (already tried, is not working) to refresh it from base? Thanks!
day 8
battery at: 29%
........I will check and finish this test tomorrow , I assume it will we under 20 %
I'm starting such a test myself today, see if I can make it to Monday. I will be using my phone for calling, i.e. the phone function is on (except when I sleep, don't want to be disturbed ), the occasional internet (checking train schedule, maybe using it as a router for my laptop for 5 minutes), and maybe 5 minutes of teeter or something. The average day use I'd say.
Question: how do I see the percentage of my battery charge?
Test starts as of NOW, 15:47 in Amsterdam, which is 13:57 UTC. It's fully charged, so I don't need a percentage reading on this one

first 25% of battery drops fast?

Ok so this is what i noticed has been happening with my phone...
I wake up in the morning and i unplug my phone from charger at 100% battery life...
after about 1-2 hours of no use (outside of occasional check of time) and no programs running i notice that 25% of life has diminished...
i have turned 3g off and done most of the kaiser tweak settings that help with battery life. for the rest of teh day i can use the phone and battery life runs normally but it seems the first 25 to 30% drops real fast without use
is everyone experiencing this? is it normal?
KP
The problem lies in your first sentence. "I wake up in the morning and unplug my battery." You are charging your battery too much thus killing it's battery life. I only charge my phone in the day while I'm at work. That way I can unhook it when it's fully charge. I would go on ebay and type in OEM battery Kaiser. You can pick one up for 15-30 dollars new.
From what I understand. Leaving your battery in the charger when it is fully charged should not damage the battery as long as its not there for an excessive amount of time but i might be wrong. Either way i have no way of charging the phone during the day as im on the go most of the time so this would mean even if i get a new battery it wont matter because it wile eventually do the same as i have only used this phone for about 3 or 4 months now. any other possibilities or solutions?
or should i just take it as it is and just buy a new battery maybe a bigger seido?
I thought Lithium ion batteries have overcharge protection. I charge mine overnight which I am sure a lot of others do also with no negative effects.

I do... Maybe I shouldn't?
I would hope it has Overcharge Protection!!!
With NiCad Batteries if you overcharged them you would kill the life of the batteries.
And while all batteries do this LiIon are least tolerant. If you overcharge a LiIon battery, that is without Overcharge protection, the LiIon Battery with BURST INTO FLAMES! Thus the problem with the Sony Batteries that caused all those Laptop battery recalls.

Thats total BS with lithium batteries.
To the OP: Try running down your battery completely once, until the phone switches off by itself, then recharge fully. If you never do it and always recharge before the battery is empty the battery's power meter can lose its calibration over time and display weird things.
If it doesn't help, and you can notice a drop in overall life time you might need a new battery.
I have the exact same "problem" with my Tytn II.
Is slows down evenly though. (So the first 5 % of battery vanishes in minutes basically while the last 5 % can last for an hour, when it's half full % will last somehwere in between these two extremes).
Personally I've just interpreted this as poor measuring done by the hardware and/or software. (Ie I don't think the battery performs better the less full it gets as the meter in Windows would have me think)

Hmm...I don't see how turning my phone off to charge would increase the charging rate dramatically. My phone in standby mode uses 1% every 2 hours.
depends highly on roms and especially on radios.
with a crappy rom, battery could drop as fast as 10% per hour.
with a decent rom, battery drops in standby mode at a rate about 2% per hour.

If the phone is on but on standby that barely changes a thing. If it's on, with display illuminated then yes it might take you an extra 20 minutes to charge.. no big deal either.
*UPDATE*
ok so i drained my battery last night completely(turned on navizon, tt7, and skyfire) which took me about at most 2 hours.
Put it in for a charge
woke up at 9 and checked to see and it was 100%
I have push mail set to update every hour and i also run pocket sportscenter autoupdates which updates every 10 to 15 minutes
I used the phone for 5 minutes of calls
5 minutes of web surfing
a few text messages
and the occasional time check
at 6:30 pm battery life was at an amazing 90%
i was thrilled.
i continued to surf the web heavily from 730 to 8
a few more text messages
at 9 battery was at 67%
so i gotta believe that draining the battery helped recalibrate it...
i guess every 2 or 3 months i got to drain it out and give a full charge
thanks for the help guys
really appreciate it

Batterytime on Xperia

Is there anyone else here that experience that the batterytime is max 3-4 hours standby?
No, battery time is more than great. I got my X1 last monday and the first three times I charged the battery to full and then let the X1 with full screen light on. This lastet more than six hours!!! Then the X1 shut off itself. The same at the second charging zyklus. Again more than 6 hours of best screen-light before switching off in cause of less power.
This is the best result I evere had at a PPC
guess you'd have to replace your battery. seems to be buggy.
my battery lasts about 6h+ of video playback (700mb, avi, dvdrip)

Wow,
I'm using Sync and wifi. can i't be because?
I got 4-5 hrs with wifi and bluetooth while streaming with the screen on max brightness. I COULDN'T BELIEVE IT!!!
It's Media Panel
Have you launched the Media Panel?
I noticed that if I used the Media Panel for music playback
the back/battery was getting VERY hot. Not good for its
lifetime . So this Panel consumes a lot of power. I guess
the Xperia developers got some work to do.
Also Wifi needs lot of battery power.
Using both about 4 hours are thinkable.
Greetings, Diewi

No, not mediapanel.
Well, i test without Synk and Wifi tomorrow.
That's it. It's Wifi. Having Wifi turned on all the time you
will get these results. It's one of the most battery intense
functions. Only turn it on if you need it. For example,
notebooks with much larger batteries will have much less
runtime (bad english, I know ).
Sync isn't responsible for this. I have an hosting exchange
server running but I didn't notice any effect on the battery.
Hope, I could help.
Diewi
im able to switch my wifi on for 3 hours then music for another 2 hours and 1 and a half hour calls still manage to have 3 bars left on my phone whats wrong with yours?
the battery on the x1 is insanly good compared to the diamond.
(however, when i was charging it yesterday there was somekind of bug that drained the battery when the charger was plugged in, it did not detect the charger after a while, havent checked what it could be, had msn/skype/wifi and the arc slider open )
edit: softreset solved that problem
the battery of X1 is working fine, 10 hours continues use time (for internet + MSN)
WiFi is something that should be only turned on when you are using it. Same goes with BT too infact.
so my accu holds approx. 1 day with music, Games, wifi, video, but I think the accu is already become better as in start in the normal one use he holds 2.5 days
Wow, 8-10 hours without Wlan!
on 2g i got msn/skype running from morning to bedtime, 3pushmail accounts and normal usage, 2bars left of battery at bedtime so its good.
But. i get strange problems when charging the battery and the phone is on. it seams like when the battery is fully charged, it starts to discharge if i not plug out the charger, this morning when i woke up the phone was off but fully charged, it could mean that the battery was charged, then discharged and shut off, then charged again.
a normal businessday: 230 min phone, 30 mails, 15 SMS, bit Internet ....and the Battery is still alive....it´s good enough for me )
sonox
it,s the poor reception that drains the battery, seeking for a signal most of the time..
Since having the X1... Now 1 week... I would have to say its the best battery life on a WM device I have used...
I get approx 2days of usage without charging... which I think is good.
Cheers

yes it consume a lot of battery, more on 3g than on 2g, if you think its a problem. just increase the time to 30min or so.

Battery issue???

I think I might have a problem with my battery, but I'm not sure. I had it on the charger for 12 hours. So the battery should be full. When I took it off the charger, the status bar indicated that it had dropped down a notch. Is this normal? I was expecting the battery indicator to be fully shaded in white.
Ok. So I restarted the phone. Now the battery indicator is showing that it's completely full. Hmmm.
This happened to me too today. I'll try a reboot...
Sent from my HD7 using Board Express
Please remember that your battery needs some time to kick in and settle before you'll get full charges/power and correct indicators. If you just got your phone on Monday, wait about a week, and your phone should last longer and display more accurate approximation of battery life.
If it has been much past a week though, and your battery life is still significantly poor, then it may be your battery, device, or how you have the system configured.
I've commented on this a few times before, the same thing happens to me.
Its obviously a bug with the OS or something as I am now on my second HD7 and it does exactly the same.
let the phone battery drain out then let the phone charge completely with out using it. You will see a huge improvement on your battery life and the phone will charge alot quicker. That will also fix the battery indicator bug.
Ariel is right.
Remember for best optimization of any battery is when u use it 0% to 100% and then let is drain to 0% again.
i have the phone since a week with 5 charges i am not happy YET with the battery. Hope it opens up as ppl are saing.
I forced my battery dry a couple of times between charges using the HTC Flashlight app.
Run the app on maximum beam (you might have to wake it up every now and again) and the battery drains very quickly. I turned on wifi and set some music playing as well for good measure.
Then charge using the supplied charger rather than a PC USB connection. I'm not sure if that's meant to make a difference but mine charges up much faster that way.
Charging your phone through USB to PC always takes longer then using the charger
I'm getting about 15 hours of battery per charge. That's with moderate use (text messages, e-mail web browsing, a couple phone calls). This is MUCH better than when I first got my HD2. The battery would drain about 1% every 3 minutes. It was absurd. I'm pretty content with the battery life thus far. Windows Phone 7 is such a pleasure to use.
friend has an evo and he's trying to sell ot to get an hd7 lmao

I got the HTC Surround and I noticed the same thing. After coming off a full charge (the whole night) I loose what looks like 5% of the charge within the first 5 minutes. Sometimes it's after as much as replying to a text.
Hopefully the battery has to 'settle in', as others have suggested.
