Hey guys,
I have a Droid Incredible (been rooted since root was available!) and love it. Anyway, my question is should I get one of these Nook Colors? They seem too good to be true, the price is cheap and it seems like a great tablet when paired with CM7 or other custom roms.
But I guess what I'm here to ask is, how do you guys use your Nook Color? If I already have a rooted smartphone that is with me at all times, what are some of the benefits of the Nook? What DON'T you like about the Nook?
Thanks for your time
I am sure that answer will ultimately come from you. After all, 10 years ago nobody needed a smartphone either!
The beauty of the Nook is that it is cheap enough to get and then discover its place in your digital life.

Well, as a rooted incredible owner, i feel safe in chiming in.
Frankly, since getting my Nook, my incredible has seen almost 0 use, short of kicking on WiFi tether. The nook with CM7 is amazing, and does everything my Inc did, but better. Its more fun to game on, work on, and browse on, but still small enough to take with me everywhere. I love it.
What don't i like about it? Bluetooth range could be better, but thats about it...
When I'm not at work on a computer already, it's my go-to browser, email client, news reader, and e-reader.
I'm moderately jealous of the browsing experience on an iPad, and its silky smooth responsiveness.
I wish the Nook had 3G and a mic, but I'm certainly not complaining @ $249.
My introduction to Android was my Thunderbolt which of course I rooted and played with for awhile. Then the NC caught my eye since I've used a Sony reader for a few years and with a little net research I just had to have the NC.
Primary use = ebook reader
Bonus uses = games, internet and the ability to play with the Android OS with the comfort of knowing that no matter how bad I screw up the NC will boot from the SD card and can be fixed.
My NC normally runs the latest CM7 stable release but I can experiment with other roms whenever I feel like playing around and know that I can always reflash my last stable rom with all my settings and apps.
Btw is 225$ in ebay already.
The nook color is the first "tablet" I've owned. I've played with my friend's iPad enough to feel that a *minimum* $500 price tag was not worth it. Even compared to other tabs like the Xoom and Galaxy, I still feel $500 is not worth it.
The $250 price point is what did it for me. It's got great functionality and I've learned SO MUCH from this site and playing with it. my only gripe is it can get a little laggy. I haven't learned how to overclock it yet but that is probably the key to a more responsive experience.
definitely worth it.

I don't have a Droid Incredible, however, I do tend to use my Evo 4 G less that I use to because of the NC 7 in screen. With CM7, browsing, reading, gaming, & etc. are way better!!! My advice, get one!!!
Yes. Get one.

I also have an Evo 4g and could NEVER put the thing down. Honestly since the nook color I use my Evo as a phone except for wifi tether (well I am flashing mikgs 3.0 Rom as I type this for my Evo. I got my NC on craigslist for $100.00 from a kid that didn't read one book on it, brought it home, rooted it, put cm7 on it and couldn't be happier. I also have a first Gen ipad that I don't even look at anymore. I actually have the ipad on craigslist for a trade for a Xoom. IMO the NC is the best bang for your Buck. It doesn't have a cam or GPS but your Droid Inc does ... SO GO GET IT AND PUT CM7 ON IT!

Another Incredible owner here: Other than making a phone call, or playing a high end game that requires my Monstrous laptop my nook has replaced EVERY SINGLE DEVICE in my house, for both myself and the wife.
Now that i have one I'm not sure what i did without it!
Also using Incredible, I consider the NC one of my best purchases. So much can be done.
Still rocking the Incredible with the XDA Premium App.
I am not using stock firm, but always used CM7 ROMs. I loved when I used Froyo, but with Gingerbread update i hated it due to battery bug. It won't go to sleep and drain the battery in 2-3 days without any use. But since CM7 nightly 82 build, they fixed this bug, and I love my Nook Color with Gingerbread.. You will love this toy. Its great!!!

What do I like? Nearly everything. Web browsing, games, photo display, netflix streaming, email, notes at work, task management at work, etc..
What don't I like? It doesn't support stylus input for ****.
Sure, I consider the Nook to be such a great tool, for what it was made and for all the potential it has resting within.
For such a low price, you can't go wrong with the Nook Color.

Might be your stylus. I have one I got from best buy, soft rubber tip - forget the manufacturer, but it's all black. I can go find out in a few days if you'd like.
Works great, haven't had an issue with it. I prefer to use my finger most often, but it comes in handy in some games.
In regards to the thread purpose, the Nook is definitely worth it if you are already here in this forum ... you have all the tools in front of you to unlock it's potential.
I don't have a smart phone, can't compare to that, but like others have mentioned before - perfect size of portability vs. usability. I still prefer a real sized monitor if possible, but more often then not there is no real pc around.
It's big enough to make browsing the web worthwhile, and not squinting into a tiny smart phone. I used to have an ipod touch, which is about that size, and it just wasn't a good web experience.
It rides along in one of the cargo pockets of my pants, can't tell you how often i've been glad to have it (even before I rooted it)
The price point makes it. At half the cost of a 'tablet' you get all the functionality, and darn close the power.
I don't think you'll regret picking one up if you do.

I am so happy I found the NookColor. I was all rev'd up about the new Honeycomb tablets coming in 2011. It reached obsession levels. I tried a G-Tablet fast bust screen really sucked. Then I tried the Archos 101, built like a toy, great video but slow not enough ram and the screen sucked.
The real problem with these tab was that it they had no soul.
Enter the NookColor. I had read about people rooting them and having a good experience so I bought one thinking I would play with it and take it back in 14 days. Use up some time waiting for the Xoom. I rooted and shazam!
Well the NC has totally captivated me. It has a real soul and is now a purposeful part of my life. I am totally happy with the 7" screen and the speed of the device. No doubt the 512MB ram provides this great experience.
Build quality is excellent and I really feel like I saved myself a lot of money.
Let me hear your experience.
Happy Nook Owner!
I've been trying to decide between the Archos 101 and the NC. I've read all the pros and cons on both. Only problem is, all the people that talk bad about the other haven't even touched them. Finally somebody who has owned both, THANKS.
I bought a Tab and I honestly didn't like it. I returned it a few days after purchase. I picked up an NC two days ago for my wife and after rooting it and putting apps on it for her, I gave her my iPad
Its nowhere near perfect but it blew my expectations away. The iPad may be better for somethings, I'm digging the form factor and the feel of the device in my hand.

I too was thinking about a Xoom, but the size is a bit too much for me. Also considered Galaxy tab, but i don't need cameras, GPS, etc. The Nook has my needs nicely covered, is a perfect form factor, and saved me some money to boot. Just got it yesterday, but so far it is all love.

haha i love the title. I have had and augen gentouch, and archose 7 home, archos 70, and and archos 101 and i LOVE LOVE LOVE my NC. It feels absolutely well built. when im holding and using it i feel like it should have costed more than the archos 101. It is every bit if not more responsive. The video playback is not up to par with archos but that is OK. I have nootered it. Running screeming kernel with remapped menu and back to volume buttons and am loving this little beast. I tried froyo/sd with all the pushed gapps workinng and all but quickly went back to eclair. You will have NO regrets. I mean this is one cheap amazing tablet. YES, it IS a tablet. Anyone who says otherwise hasnt owned or touched a rooted one. No it doesnt have a camera, gps, or usb host but i dont miss those things at all. I have my DX for those things. I wireless tether with my DX with great success. I play pocket legends for hours a day on my NOOKCOLOR now!! haha have fun no matter what!!!
I just got mine a few.days ago and havent rooted it because i am running froyo off an sd card and except for video and a couple other minor things and its running great. I was thinking to just try it out and return it but its so nice i think im keeping it. Really like the size too, a ten inch tablet is really bulky to carry around and hold.
Sent from my Nook Color (zoom2) using Tapatalk
Ipad was too bulky, heavy, needed to be lugged around like a netbook. The Nook on the other hand is light, small, and fits in a pant pocket with no difficulty if needed.
Thumbs up for the nook.
I won't go to Betty Ford Clinic for being a Tabaholic!!
Hi I'm John and I am a Tabaholic. . .
I've been doing tablets for years (Ipad, window 98, Elocity, Samsung, . . ), and was ashamed. I would stay at home alone with my tablet for fear of pointing and laughing at me (and lack of internet connections). . . but now I hold my head up high and proud to sport around my Nook Color (internet via my Droid X) with the bright colors, all the apps, and lightning fast speed. This is what I've craving for years but had to settle for the garbage that didn't give me the fix I needed.
No 12 step program for me. If being a tabaholic is wrong then I don't want to be right!!!
John, I am glad you where able to face your inner demons and the NC has liberated you!!!!
Like you I have a Droid X and have noticed that many here do as well. I think what we are all experiencing (getting chills as I type this) is that the NC is a perfect companion to a Droid. The adhoc tethering, the fact that we already have a camera and gps on our Droid is really why we don't need these things on our tablet.
I think we are witnessing the Droid and the NC coming together, complimenting each other and in a way almost becoming one.
This power of collaboration has liberated me as well and I will never be in the closet again.
I have been testing the ipad and the galaxy tab before i got the nook. I did not like the ipad at first, it felt a tad bit wrong for me. Then my wife got a galaxy tab and that made more sense for me. I think it is due to me having a HTC Hero as my phone. A larger version of android really makes sense. So I do believe this is similar for iphone users using the ipad, you have the familiar environment in a larger formfactor. So I had to get a tab of my own but didn't want to fork out for the galaxy tab. I am really happy with my rooted nook, the only thing i do miss is a microphone but that might be fixed with bluetooth

I just want to buy one just to root it and install froyo and gapps.
I already have a kindle for my ereader.
So is it a good tab for 250?
It is an awesome tablet, especially with the 1.1Ghz Kernel installed. Now, i will be realistic, and say that the current froyo build that is out there is nothing more than a test - i dont see people using it as a daily driver on it. But, it is still being worked on, as is a ginerbread build, so who knows where it will all be in a month's time.
Basically, this has the hardware (sans cellular connection, and at the moment, bluetooth) of the Droid X, with a better screen, for half the retail cost. If that idea appeals to you, then you will love this tab.
sounds good, im going to try to find one used!
also can i just root and keep eclair for a whileb ut use a different launcher?
Agree with all the last post said.
In addition, I would say at the moment, it is the best tablet in its price range.

Yes you can.. its what i do! The froyo build is interesting to play, but not quite all there yet (though, it has basically be started from scratch, so it has really come a long way). I use the eclair build as my daily, and with the 1.1Ghz kernel, the device just flys (and puts my HTC incredible to shame, on 2.2). I use Zeam, but Launcher Pro and ADW both work as well.
With the quality of the nooks screen and the fact that these are almost impossible to brick make the nook well worth the money.......imho for what it is worth

Unless there's a wi-fi only model out there I completely missed, the vast majority of us won't be able to get a Galaxy for close to $250 or even $350 factoring in the contract price which makes the Nook an even better deal.
No doubt there have been plenty of replies, and for sure it isn't like my reply is any more important than any of the others. But thought I would throw my 2 cents in.
I have an EVO, was pretty happy for the most part with the size for a phone and somewhat tablet. So I was pretty headstrong on wanting a 10" or larger tablet, was holding off for the new Tegra2's. My father and I thought a cheap tablet would be good for my mom who has memory issues etc to use to keep her active, so i bought a couple of Augen Gentouch 78's. Worth the $100 I spent on them but I fought and fought that resistive screen and knew it would be really tough for her, but was surprised that I was pretty satisfied with the 7" screen. So I looked at the next option and grabbed a couple of NC's. And I was blown away at the screen, the smoothness, the capability. The thing for $250 is incredible. It is very responsive, I mean it blows the responsiveness of my phone away at a slower speed. And after rooting, I mean the thing is limitless on what you can do. Mind you there are a few things from a true tablet it is missing, a camera, microphone and GPS, but honestly, I have my phone for GPS, my phone also has the camera for Conferencing, mind you that is the main feature I think i would like on a Tab that is missing it, but for the price, I mean really you can't touch what it can do and the speed for that price. I am completely satisfied, I am even more satisfied on the size, I do believe that 10" would be nice still for a at home all the time tablet or something, but carrying around it would be too big. The 7" is very nice, compact enough to carry but large enough to do anything. And who said size doesn't matter? So in my personal opinion it is beyond worth the $250 and makes a very fine tablet that can compete with the best of them. Mind you it is no Tegra2, but seriously is there any app out that will use a Tegra 2 power yet? I doubt it. Most games I throw at the nook have no issues. And the overclocking abilities that don't seem to overheat or cause any issues, make this beyond worth it.
So yes, I think it is a great buy, on top of that you have a perfect Reader. But with all the other abilities it is 95% perfect tablet.
My 2 cents, nuff said!

I add my voice to yes, it is worth $250. I have had mine for a week and love it--can hardly put it down.
Hey guys, so I'll cut right to the chase. I'm debating on getting the Nook Color or the Notion Ink Adam. I know it's hard to compare the two because of the specs but hear me out. All I really want it for is web browsing, occasional gaming, and flash videos. My laptop of 5 years is crapping out on me. Every now and then it'll overheat and crash right when Im reading some xda or phandroid. But anyways, the nook color IS cheaper and can be overclocked to 1ghz but it's smaller, doesn't have as much RAM and not dual core. But as I said I only really want it for browsing. So would it be good for that? And can it handle flash videos well? Thanks for the help.

Not sure about the specs on the Ink, but right now there really isn't any flash on the Nook.. There is some progress on it, but it requires Froyo of course and that is not ready for prime time yet.
There is much talk about other roms, but doesn't look like that will happen anytime soon.
If the Ink has flash and if that's what you need then your probably better off with something certain.
I bought the Nook with the assumption we would eventually get flash, but I am starting to question if I made the right choice myself. Its an excellent piece of hardware and worth the price, but my fear is it could get abandoned with all the new tablets out...
No flash isn't really a deal breaker for me. If I really needed it I could just use it on my X. I think it will eventually be on the Adam. But the money thing is what's holding me back. 120 bucks is a lot of a difference. I'm just considering trying the nook and if I dont like it ill return it.
Think of it as do you want an ereader that has been hacked to be a tablet or do you want it more of just a tablet (which you can add reader apps to). If you want more of a tablet function go notion ink. If you want more use as just an ereader than a tablet go nook

i bought the nc because i did not want to wait for the Adam. I am very happy with the Nook. It suits my needs for now. one thing i really like about the nook, is the hacking. From what i see the Adam is going to have a pretty well baked interface when you get it. its faster, and offers the pixel qi screen which interests me a lot. the total cost of the device with shipping is a bit of a turn off, but it will have more manufacture development then the nook ever will.
For the 250$ price point the nook is a superior product in every way. but there's still a bit of things that are lacking on the nook. but every day someone posts something in the dev form that gets me more and more interested.
i suggest you go to bestbuy, buy a nook, and play with it for a few weeks, see if you like what it has. if you want more return it. no harm. its very easy to reset back to stock for a return.
Cost. The main issue is cost. For 250, I think there is no beating the NC. The GTab lasted 1 day at home. For the cost, it wasn't worth it...
NF will soon be very stable and capable. It gets better every day. The screen is great, form factor is great, community is great, and you never lose the fact that it can be returned to stock to be a great e-reader when something new comes out. It will always be a very capable little tablet even after you have transitioned to a new device.
Oh, and good luck getting your hands on a Notion. Initial quality problems and backorders will keep it out of most people's hands for a while...
I was a little torn between the NC and Notion Ink myself. The bottom line, for me anyway, is the form factor. I personally think the Nook is the perfect size.
I was on the same boat as you but I saw my friend Nook rooted and that seal the deal for me. I have no regret and this have become the go to gadget at home between me and my wife.

I have a Nook Color and love it. But I also have a Pixel Qi and LCD version of the NI on order. To me it's like apples and oranges. I dont read books, or that many really. I just got hte Nook to hold me over until I got a respectable Android Tab. I use it for movies, XDA, Twitter, Email, etc. But in no way is it a full service tablet.
The Adam is designed to be almost a laptop replacement (out of the box). I was fully impressed with the full buildup of details down to almost every screw with the Adam and can tell you from personal experience that there is NOTHING like the Tegra 2. If you want to replace your laptop, then get the Adam. If you want a cool little ereader that doubles as a usuable tablet then go for the NC.

Yeah that's what I was thinking. I DO want a replacement for my laptop, but I mainly just want something that's easy to browse on. I know no tablet I buy will fully replace a laptop or desktop. For my browsing needs I think the NC would be good. But then I think about watching the guy play games on the Adam and switching between like 5 games with no lag. I do play games a lot and would love to have a decent sized screen and a good processor on it. I'll probably end up buying a color because I'm impatient and if I don't like it I'll return it. Only problem is the nearest B&N and Best buy are 2 hours away.
Thanks for all your input guys. It's much appreciated.
to be honest i think a 10" screen is just too big to be practical at least in most situations outside of the home. my plan is to use my nook for awhile until these sweet powerhouse tablets come down to earth price wise. once i can get an 8-8.5" tab with dual core tegra for under $300 i'm in
really the nook is great for web browsing and games as it is. once we get some solid roms going it will only get better.
I know there are 2 million threads like this but I'm going to be picking up a nook color maybe...do I need a faster micro sd card you run honeycomb?

Its the best 250 dollars you could possibly spend, plus it made gadget of the year on engadget alongside the likes of the ipad etc. Nuff said.
Plus if you have an android phone you can tether your Internet and practically have a 3g tablet.
Just my two cents.
I hate books and it was my first time in a Barnes and Noble, for 250 you CANNOT go wrong. I tether my internet from my phone and have internet everywhere my phone does. Get one, you wont regret it.
take action
Buy one and play around with it. Barnes and Noble has a 14 day return policy so you really have nothing to lose.
If you use the microSD card method with Honeycomb then your Nook won't change. However you can still root the installed OS and play around with the Nook, restore it to stock and return it if you don't like it.

Well I have an evo and in my opinion its well worth getting. It IS actually high end quality and you can't really judge by whats in the store because that is the very limited stock OS.
Sent from my Evo.
So far it seems to be a good buy. I had had mine for three days. The first day I ran it stock. Too boring.
Second day I ran it with Monster root which made it much nicer as I was able to load apps from the Market.
Third day tried the Nookie Froyo on SD card. Cool since it got rid of annoying lower notification bar. I keep hitting it instead of the space bar.
Some apps don't seem to work correctly so its not perfect. I think it will take a while till I find the perfect ROM for my nook along with the perfect apps. It took me 5 months to settle down with a ROM on my Captivate.
But then it's $250 vs 700 for xoom. Ipad, no thanks even though I'm sure it works out of the box.
Sent from my Nook Color
For the quality of the display alone it is well worth the $250, even if it weren't also inadvertently a surprisingly adequate little tablet. The processor isn't going to blow your pants off or anything, but considering what it costs it really is amazing.
I don't do much book reading, but I've been trying to look for a device I could use while commuting back and forth to work or when traveling.
I didn't want to shell out $700 for iPad + service; I don't own a iPhone nor cared to get one. I am a tech geek at heart and enjoy re-purposing equipment through any means possible.
So the Nook Color is turning out to be the perfect device/tablet for my needs.
Easy and fun to root and once running Andriod, the world of possibilities has opened up. I no longer have to pull out my Dell M11x to do my light surfing/gaming/reading on the plane/train/bus. In addition, I'm getting back into reading again.
It is worth every penny of the $250 + change I paid for it. It will only get better as the dev community becomes stronger and the app market grows. I think the NC is a solid device and a great contender to the upcoming tablets being released. Hopefully devs can figure out how to get Bluetooth and FM radio working; functionality that wasn't available since Nook Color was developed as an eReader.
Enjoy!!!!!
Go For It!
I can only add from my experience...
My wife got me the NC as a present last Xmas and I didn't as much as touch it since about a week ago. The reason for my suddenly sparked interest was that I came across the amazing opportunities this "ereader" offers after some tweaks!
So far I rooted it, briefly tried the Honeycomb via SD (stopped it though b/c I had no real clue what I could/should do with it), and installed useful apps via market. Oh, and I oc'ed it to 1.1 GHz as well.
Unless you are made of money and can afford the Xoom (which I am really interested in but it's for now not affordable) you should consider the NC!

Once you figure that out could you let me know?!?!? (please)
I'm looking for a good screen 7" color ebook. After searching in the market, it seems that NC is the best at the moment, IPS, 1024x600...
I wonder if I missed anything else in the market?
For the cost and amount of things you can do with the nook, I would say it is most definitely the best buy.

I was considering getting the Samsung Galaxy Tab, mainly for the processor speed, looking for faster web page loading. Any thoughts from other NC owners appreciated.

If you want to pay twice as much then go for Galaxy tab. But I do not see any point to go for that just for processor speed. NC can go very well upto 1.1GHz.
Worth it.
I looked around and read a lot of reviews and for the price, you are not going to find something with the dev support and capability of the Nook color. The closest I found in the price range was the PocketBook IQ, which didn't have the dev support and was running less ram, plus could only handle smaller SD cards (8gb max IIRC)
I picked my NC up when B&N was having their $50 off coupon a couple of weeks ago. Rooted it right out of the box (after registering of course) and after a few days I flashed to Froyo custom and I honestly couldn't be happier (well maybe if OCing didn't make it so unstable). Rooting and Froyo install were both as easy as burning a microSD and rebooting. The devs here have done a great job making the process painless.
It is fast, responsive, and capable. It does just about everything I ask of it (except watch Hulu... stupid Hulu. I'd even settle for Netflix... stupid Netflix). And now that it looks like BT may have been unlocked, I will be able to get it to talk to hopefully a headset, GPS, Keyboard and tethered phone, and it will become the device I use most. And if they can unlock the USB, then it would be way too cool. The battery lasts me the whole day with light to medium use, and the screen is gorgeous. I don't care about not having a camera.
Bad side? Overclocking makes it unstable as hell (but I don't feel it needs it most of the time IMHO). It has trouble with my work's encrypted network (but then again, so do macs), and flash video can be quite choppy (games run fine). The controls with softkeys can take some getting used to, and I needed a bigger keyboard for my fat fingers (I thoroughly recommend the full version of 'Keyboard from Android 2.3' for $.99 from the market), and the screen can seem a bit unresponsive at times (a screen off and back on usually makes it better, but I wish I could adjust it). It also takes forever to charge off a normal miniUSB, so I will be buying a second cable as soon as I find one for a reasonable price. And the market took a little bit of trickiness to get working properly, but it was a 5 minute process, counting the time to find the solution here.
My advice: If you want a tablet and don't mind doing a bit of tinkering, buy one. It is small, portable and flexible, and you will not beat it for the price.
Edit: After updating my Kernel with Dalgrin's latest, overclocking is beautifully stable

Well my NC doesn't load pages as fast as my Atrix but considering the price point I don't expect it to. To be fair the Galaxy Tab and the NC aren't even in the same league/price point, in a head to head the Tab is obviously better but it's also like $600 with no contract vs $250. I personally don't feel I'd get my $600 out of the tab and I use my NC everyday, and the xoom is nuts on pricing ATM IMO. I feel that for $250 the NC is a steal for it's performance, it isn't the fastest tablet or have the best screen but it isn't like I'm slamming my head on the table waiting for web pages to load either.
+1

Thank you, ErroneousBosch, for yr detail comments.
In summary, NC got the best deal at the moment. NC also got the best screen too.
Decision pretty made!
However, it seems I just missed the $50 promotion
When you turn brightness all the way up to 100%, I swear, I think I have a Super AMOLED screen.
The Tab is obviously nicer, and having the actual hard key "back" and "menu" button rather than remapping the volume buttons or softkeys-type options, I beleive, can't be underestimated.
Otherwise for the price point? You can NOT go wrong with $250 or less. That is, if you are not afraid to tweak, root or ROM. If you want a great experience out of the box, the Tab and its huge price tag is the option for you. But if you have a little patience, CM7 and Honeycomb will both be wonderful on the Nook Color over the next few months.
I don't know how much you will use yours but I find that my NC is by no means a "need" like a smartphone. So I would never pay for a Tab or even a Xoom (and for sure) not an iPad.
Try the nook with cm7.... maybe it was the tab that I used, but the nook blew it out of the water in every way. Also, with CM7 and the stand by cell network disabled, I get a full 8 to 10 hrs of almost nonstop use... and more than a day of moderate use.

definitely the best one right now, until the android tablet market explodes.
(everyone has to always catch up to apple)
I was looking, but for the price you can't beat the NC. No doubt subsidized somewhat in expectation of book purchases (heh)
I enjoy mine a lot.
It's like any other cell phone/Tablet except without phone and camera (of which i have a separate devices that function better than an all in one for what i need)
the only other one i considered was the HTC flyer. not out yet and it's geared towards cell companies, IE ~600$ and up
Anyone else notice this trend of either catering to the BOOK or CELL DATA crowd?? bleh.
This video will give you the answer you are looking for...NC any day!

How did you accomplish this? I'm running CM7 nightlies and would like to do this as well.

If you look at the thread for that, you'll see that controlled testing found no diference in battery life from disabling the phone apks, as those services never actually run due to the absence of the phone hardware.
While anecdotal reports continue to say this is the way to achieve battery nirvana, third-party testing never reports a measurable diference.
For me, I get the same life he's claiming the hack gives and I don't use it (I have tested it previously).
Disabling those apks has also been demonstrated to cause issues with the Market.

I don't quite agree with this. The current galaxy tab does not impress me in any way. The only true advantage it gas over the nc in any way is its additional hardware thats found in 99 percent of phonesthat no one truly needs on a tablet. (eg gps and camera.)

Also, I never noticed any stability issues due to overclocking. My 1,1ghz NC is smooth and stable.
Oh and after seeing the video, I find the GT to be rather ugly. It always looked great on pictures, but compared with the nook, it's an ugly brick.
On the other hand, I'm a fan of the big bezel of the NC as it's very easy to hold with one hand. YMMV
I played with the Galaxy Tab at Best Buy on Monday and felt the same sentiments. It's smaller than the NC & cheaper feeling. For a faster processor, it was quite laggy. I wasn't impressed at all, especially with the high price tag!!!
