I just want to buy one just to root it and install froyo and gapps.
I already have a kindle for my ereader.
So is it a good tab for 250?
It is an awesome tablet, especially with the 1.1Ghz Kernel installed. Now, i will be realistic, and say that the current froyo build that is out there is nothing more than a test - i dont see people using it as a daily driver on it. But, it is still being worked on, as is a ginerbread build, so who knows where it will all be in a month's time.
Basically, this has the hardware (sans cellular connection, and at the moment, bluetooth) of the Droid X, with a better screen, for half the retail cost. If that idea appeals to you, then you will love this tab.

Yes you can.. its what i do! The froyo build is interesting to play, but not quite all there yet (though, it has basically be started from scratch, so it has really come a long way). I use the eclair build as my daily, and with the 1.1Ghz kernel, the device just flys (and puts my HTC incredible to shame, on 2.2). I use Zeam, but Launcher Pro and ADW both work as well.
With the quality of the nooks screen and the fact that these are almost impossible to brick make the nook well worth the money.......imho for what it is worth

Unless there's a wi-fi only model out there I completely missed, the vast majority of us won't be able to get a Galaxy for close to $250 or even $350 factoring in the contract price which makes the Nook an even better deal.
No doubt there have been plenty of replies, and for sure it isn't like my reply is any more important than any of the others. But thought I would throw my 2 cents in.
I have an EVO, was pretty happy for the most part with the size for a phone and somewhat tablet. So I was pretty headstrong on wanting a 10" or larger tablet, was holding off for the new Tegra2's. My father and I thought a cheap tablet would be good for my mom who has memory issues etc to use to keep her active, so i bought a couple of Augen Gentouch 78's. Worth the $100 I spent on them but I fought and fought that resistive screen and knew it would be really tough for her, but was surprised that I was pretty satisfied with the 7" screen. So I looked at the next option and grabbed a couple of NC's. And I was blown away at the screen, the smoothness, the capability. The thing for $250 is incredible. It is very responsive, I mean it blows the responsiveness of my phone away at a slower speed. And after rooting, I mean the thing is limitless on what you can do. Mind you there are a few things from a true tablet it is missing, a camera, microphone and GPS, but honestly, I have my phone for GPS, my phone also has the camera for Conferencing, mind you that is the main feature I think i would like on a Tab that is missing it, but for the price, I mean really you can't touch what it can do and the speed for that price. I am completely satisfied, I am even more satisfied on the size, I do believe that 10" would be nice still for a at home all the time tablet or something, but carrying around it would be too big. The 7" is very nice, compact enough to carry but large enough to do anything. And who said size doesn't matter? So in my personal opinion it is beyond worth the $250 and makes a very fine tablet that can compete with the best of them. Mind you it is no Tegra2, but seriously is there any app out that will use a Tegra 2 power yet? I doubt it. Most games I throw at the nook have no issues. And the overclocking abilities that don't seem to overheat or cause any issues, make this beyond worth it.
So yes, I think it is a great buy, on top of that you have a perfect Reader. But with all the other abilities it is 95% perfect tablet.

Unfortunately i have had to exchange my nook two times. I thought the third one would work. But today I returned it and the accessories. Are there any other tablets one would reccomend sans Galaxy Tab. I realize most (if not all) of you don't give a **** about this post. But I just want to see peoples input. I may buy an NC again in the future once a new hardware revision comes out. Goodbye again.

What was the problem with each tablet, individually?
I too haven't had any luck. My first Nookcolor wouldn't turn on or reset after I plugged it in to charge. The second one would randomly reboot, reload or freeze. B&N are sending me a third one. My cousin bought her nookcolor on release date and she has never had to reset or soft reset hers.

Were you having the digitizer problems while plugged into the charger? This seems to be a common issue that is actually caused by the charger itself. I know you already returned your third Nook but maybe someone else will see this if they're having a similar problem. I have this same issue with my Nook and will be calling customer service to get a replacement shipped out. In the meantime i haven't had the need to use my device while it's charging due to the long battery life.
For those considering changing to a gtablet or archos i can only say that i owned an archos 101 and returned it due to its horrible screen and build quality. I have also used a gtablet and it was quite heavy and also had a very poor screen. However, there's no denying that it has pretty powerful hardware and performs well when you ditch the stock software for a custom rom.

Hmm (quick look at Viewsonic web page and Amazon) ... twice the price for 7 or 10 inch, slower and way less onboard memory, what's not to love? Web cam, BT and Froyo are there also there, OK some things.

I hear ya, surprised the fanbois insecure in their purchase haven't popped up yet to cry foul though.
Anyways, I'd wait. CES is coming and supposedly alot of new tablets will be demoed with actual release dates not too far out... i.e. I'm not even going to recommend a rooted/custom fw'ed gTab. (It is fast(browses almost as well as my MSI GT725 P8600 2.4GHz/ATI 4850 mobility), but you never know something with a better stock fw might be on the way...)
I'm kind of in the OP's position, as my first NC came OOB w/a borked USB port and I had a b!tch of a time getting them to exchange it. No wonder that B&N are in trouble with that kind of QA & CS... Exchange unit is doing OK now, so I plan to keep it unless something happens to this one before 14d are up, in which case I'm going to have to think hard about another exchange or just flat out return. Their crap CS is making me lean to return as it was the very worst CS experience that I've ever had in my life.

Do NOT buy the Cruz Craplet. It uses a non-standard MIPS CPU in the SoC unlike every single other recent device that uses ARM based SoCs. Also their reader is just an overpriced white Pandigital Novel. The fws are nearly directly exchangeable.
Archos: beware of 256MB of RAM in those, and their current froyo build underclocks their CPU to 800MHz plus they tooketh away features that were in their 2.1 build... (mainly some codecs that they want you to buy now, or so I gather). The RAM is a limiting factor in app usage and potential further OS upgrades, so I'd look for devices with a minimum of 512MB of RAM onboard. (I'd also REALLY like to see easily user replaceable batteries.... but...)
Notion Ink: I'd wait and see on those guys. More like until they release their next tablet(see if they survive) and see if they fix their crappy warranty & shipping & return policies and/or get into B&M so that you can see/try BEFORE you buy...

I went from an Archos 101 to a NC and I definitely second the comment about the ram. 256MB just isn't enough for me - lockups and freezes are common when you do anything interesting with it. My dad ended up the Archos for Christmas for checking sports scores and emails and stuff and he loves it so far.
The latest Archos gen8 firmware allows you to bump the speed back up to 1GHz, so that's not an issue. The A101's screen (TN versus IPS) and touch sensor (tested via fruit ninja) are crap next to the NC's. As far as video playback goes, the A101 runs rings around the poor NC. Everything just played. Lack of bluetooth sucks on the NC, but hopefully "they" will fix that for us soon.
My NC has a single dead pixel smack in the middle of the screen, but it's definitely not worth the hassle of a return.
EDIT: I forgot about the terrible wireless on the A101. As of 2.0.71 firmware WPA2 AES finally works, but it's not as stable as wireless on the NC. On the other hand, the A101 neatly beats the NC on battery life.

Was contemplating getting a cruz tab but from what I read, it has slow mips processor which stops market access. The reviews also said it had build issues. I'm happy with my galaxy tab and my wife is happy with her nc, she still won't let me root her nc lol

i agree wait until CES is done. Lots of Android tabs coming out. It's unfortunate at the problems some are having. I have 2 NC's and no problems. For the money, the NC is hard to beat. I would not get the Galaxy tab as it is overpriced IMHO.
Been followign the CES and pre-CES launch announcements, and I would say hang on til june and get one of the Asus Tablets. They will retail between $399-$499 depending on model (the 7", which includes a capacitve stylus and ap suite to take advantage of it, and the 10" slider models are $499, the 10" tablet that has an optional keyboard dock is $399). The LG tablet is another that is on the horizon that looks very promising.
In fact, CES now has me second guessing whether or not I will get a NC.

That's $150 - $250 more than the NC for an Android tablet.
That and I would never spend that kind of cash on a tablet with a mobile OS. Say what you want, but Android, iOS, WM7 are all still just phone/hand held operating systems.
For the record: first unit had a borked USB port, and the second has 2 defective pixels plus a backlight display defect near the top. No worries! I'm taking the second back to BestBuy and picking up a third on Sunday! I'll keep doing it 'til it's perfect. For $250 it's all that.
Sorry to hear that B&N customer service sucks. Anyway, Walmart is carrying them too now so options are good.

Also I saw it somewhere and it's true. 7" tablet = 1 handed tablet, 10" tablet = 2 handed tablet. I really like the size of the Nook Color. No doubt a 10" tablet would be nice for a lot of things, but the smaller tablet really works well I think.

It's hard to beat the $250 price of the Nook. I've bought 5 of them and rooted them for family members. Everyone Loves them!
I've been playing with HCv4, but it's not ready for daily use. Can't wait for Honeycomb ADOP. The nook will be nearly perfect balance What's honeycomb is installed.

I agree about the Nook Color doing everything you want. I made the jump primarily for 1 reason: Autodesk Sketchbook Pro.
If the NC had a decent enough screen for me to use a stylus with, I probably would have never considered it. However, the higher resolution screen an larger work surface were definitrely a plus. $600 was definitely a lot to spend just to get those things, but all things considered,
honestly, what more can the XOOM do (besides camera related stuff) that we already can't do on our $250 Nook 95% of the time?

Had the xoom came out in late January, I would have been in for one, but I went with the nook a few weeks ago and I am completely happy with it. I don't care for the cameras and I like the smaller size. GPS would be nice but thats about all I miss.
Price point is too high for me. The NC is doing nearly everything I need and is fun to play with. If bluetooth becomes functional (fully) it will be the cat's meow for me I'll certainly upgrade someday, but I'm waiting for the initial Android tablet offerings to settle out some first.

I'm looking for a 10" tablet really. I initially bought the iPad which is nice except lack of SD card and intrusive use of iTunes made it useless. If I can't pull files off the device while I am out, then it is completely dead to me.
I bought the NC because of the screen and price point but the Xoom has everything that I want. The NC is cool but it can barely run Honeycomb so I would consider it an end of life unit right out of the box.
The Xoom on the other hand comes loaded with honey comb and should be good enough for a few more versions.

I ordered my Xoom while the Motorola site still had their 25% off glitch. So I got it for $630 free 2 day shipping and a free gel case. Main reason is that most applications act funny on my NC with Honeycomb.... My wife will probably kill me

For the cost and amount of things you can do with the nook, I would say it is most definitely the best buy.

If you want to pay twice as much then go for Galaxy tab. But I do not see any point to go for that just for processor speed. NC can go very well upto 1.1GHz.
Worth it.
I looked around and read a lot of reviews and for the price, you are not going to find something with the dev support and capability of the Nook color. The closest I found in the price range was the PocketBook IQ, which didn't have the dev support and was running less ram, plus could only handle smaller SD cards (8gb max IIRC)
I picked my NC up when B&N was having their $50 off coupon a couple of weeks ago. Rooted it right out of the box (after registering of course) and after a few days I flashed to Froyo custom and I honestly couldn't be happier (well maybe if OCing didn't make it so unstable). Rooting and Froyo install were both as easy as burning a microSD and rebooting. The devs here have done a great job making the process painless.
It is fast, responsive, and capable. It does just about everything I ask of it (except watch Hulu... stupid Hulu. I'd even settle for Netflix... stupid Netflix). And now that it looks like BT may have been unlocked, I will be able to get it to talk to hopefully a headset, GPS, Keyboard and tethered phone, and it will become the device I use most. And if they can unlock the USB, then it would be way too cool. The battery lasts me the whole day with light to medium use, and the screen is gorgeous. I don't care about not having a camera.
Bad side? Overclocking makes it unstable as hell (but I don't feel it needs it most of the time IMHO). It has trouble with my work's encrypted network (but then again, so do macs), and flash video can be quite choppy (games run fine). The controls with softkeys can take some getting used to, and I needed a bigger keyboard for my fat fingers (I thoroughly recommend the full version of 'Keyboard from Android 2.3' for $.99 from the market), and the screen can seem a bit unresponsive at times (a screen off and back on usually makes it better, but I wish I could adjust it). It also takes forever to charge off a normal miniUSB, so I will be buying a second cable as soon as I find one for a reasonable price. And the market took a little bit of trickiness to get working properly, but it was a 5 minute process, counting the time to find the solution here.
My advice: If you want a tablet and don't mind doing a bit of tinkering, buy one. It is small, portable and flexible, and you will not beat it for the price.
Edit: After updating my Kernel with Dalgrin's latest, overclocking is beautifully stable

Well my NC doesn't load pages as fast as my Atrix but considering the price point I don't expect it to. To be fair the Galaxy Tab and the NC aren't even in the same league/price point, in a head to head the Tab is obviously better but it's also like $600 with no contract vs $250. I personally don't feel I'd get my $600 out of the tab and I use my NC everyday, and the xoom is nuts on pricing ATM IMO. I feel that for $250 the NC is a steal for it's performance, it isn't the fastest tablet or have the best screen but it isn't like I'm slamming my head on the table waiting for web pages to load either.

When you turn brightness all the way up to 100%, I swear, I think I have a Super AMOLED screen.
The Tab is obviously nicer, and having the actual hard key "back" and "menu" button rather than remapping the volume buttons or softkeys-type options, I beleive, can't be underestimated.
Otherwise for the price point? You can NOT go wrong with $250 or less. That is, if you are not afraid to tweak, root or ROM. If you want a great experience out of the box, the Tab and its huge price tag is the option for you. But if you have a little patience, CM7 and Honeycomb will both be wonderful on the Nook Color over the next few months.
I don't know how much you will use yours but I find that my NC is by no means a "need" like a smartphone. So I would never pay for a Tab or even a Xoom (and for sure) not an iPad.
Try the nook with cm7.... maybe it was the tab that I used, but the nook blew it out of the water in every way. Also, with CM7 and the stand by cell network disabled, I get a full 8 to 10 hrs of almost nonstop use... and more than a day of moderate use.

I was looking, but for the price you can't beat the NC. No doubt subsidized somewhat in expectation of book purchases (heh)
I enjoy mine a lot.
It's like any other cell phone/Tablet except without phone and camera (of which i have a separate devices that function better than an all in one for what i need)
the only other one i considered was the HTC flyer. not out yet and it's geared towards cell companies, IE ~600$ and up
Anyone else notice this trend of either catering to the BOOK or CELL DATA crowd?? bleh.

If you look at the thread for that, you'll see that controlled testing found no diference in battery life from disabling the phone apks, as those services never actually run due to the absence of the phone hardware.
While anecdotal reports continue to say this is the way to achieve battery nirvana, third-party testing never reports a measurable diference.
For me, I get the same life he's claiming the hack gives and I don't use it (I have tested it previously).
Disabling those apks has also been demonstrated to cause issues with the Market.

I personally don't feel I'd get my $600 out of the tab and I use my NC everyday, and the xoom is nuts on pricing ATM IMO. I feel that for $250 the NC is a steal for it's performance, it isn't the fastest tablet or have the best screen but it isn't like I'm slamming my head on the table waiting for web pages to load either.

I don't quite agree with this. The current galaxy tab does not impress me in any way. The only true advantage it gas over the nc in any way is its additional hardware thats found in 99 percent of phonesthat no one truly needs on a tablet. (eg gps and camera.)

Also, I never noticed any stability issues due to overclocking. My 1,1ghz NC is smooth and stable.
Oh and after seeing the video, I find the GT to be rather ugly. It always looked great on pictures, but compared with the nook, it's an ugly brick.
On the other hand, I'm a fan of the big bezel of the NC as it's very easy to hold with one hand. YMMV
I played with the Galaxy Tab at Best Buy on Monday and felt the same sentiments. It's smaller than the NC & cheaper feeling. For a faster processor, it was quite laggy. I wasn't impressed at all, especially with the high price tag!!!

Alright so here's the deal....
I've had this Nook Color for a long time but i l've realized it's become more of a toy to tinker with instead of a tablet. I was constantly working on it instead of using it as a tablet. So i gave up and posted it on Ebay and was going to sell it but now i've installed the latest phiremod and... i feel like my nook is finally there. Video is actually worth a damn and it's all smooth. What would you guys do? How does the tab compare now? Still a little smoother but not much or.... all opinions welcome. Sorry for punctuation, typing on nook color.

I think you should keep it. I used it just to experiment when I was runing froyo but now I 'm using the latest CM7 (rc4) and I 'm now really using it as a tablet [browsing,reading,some games and the occasional navigation]. It's the perfect tablet for the money I paid.
The cpu speed is equal or better if you use the overclock kernel, the graphics are equal now, the operating system is better cuz it can run gingerbread where the galaxy is just froyo. All in all for 250 bucks youre way way better off with the nook.. and its getting better everyday with the cm7 nightlies.

Hi,
no, they aren't. The galaxy has a newer, more advanced graphic chipset. It's been reported to play almost any video you throw at it, while the nook has significant limitations.

I say keep it. When CM7 goes final with the Tablet Tweaks and Phiredrop mods it, it's going to be epic. That dude really knows how to put a user interface together.

I think the Galaxy can do 720p videos (no need to reencode, can stream from your main system or whatever.)
I also think the bluetooth has a longer range, and it has cameras? It's good stuff, but it's also more expensive.

Which one? The one I see is like $1100?
If you have $1100 to spend, that certainly isn't a bad way to spend it if you want the rugged reliability of the SSD storage.
I also like the $1100 IBM/Lenova Thinkpad convertable. It has better stats and bigger storage, but it uses a normal type of harddrive.

Showing up online for $400 for 16GB and $500 for 32GB.
We all have different requirements but to me the only real competition to a rooted Nook Color right now is the Galaxy Tab. Anything bigger than 8" is in laptop/netbook size territory, which just is not as portable.
And the price of a Galaxy Tab is now in NC territory although you have monthly contract charges for 2 years...
The extra cost involved with the contract, or buying one outright, will keep me happily using an NC. When a 7" tablet with significantly better specs and quality becomes available in the same price range- >$250 then I may consider it.
Right now there is nothing.
But if the size doesn't bother you- well, I have no input really because I haven't seen ANY 10" tablet I would buy.

I agree that 7" is just the right size. The IPad is great and all but it's so bulky. That's why it's between this and the Galaxy Tab. I'm still not sure. I really do like this a lot and it's actually usable since installing RC4 version of Phiremod. Just want something where everything is smooth and works perfectly. Before, the argument couldn't be made that the nook color was all that smooth but it's worlds better now. Thanks for all your input guys.
Ok, here is my next question then, since we agree on the 7" size:
What os are you using?
Stock rooted?
Froyo?
Honeycomb?
CyanogenMod7?
I have gone through all of the above to one degree or another, HC for the shortest time due to the issues since source is not out.
Once CM7 was available I have not even read a thread about another.
It may still be in the nightly/RC stage, but CM7 is extremely good as it is and is in very active development to complete making things perfect.
One of the issues we all have with the NC- lack of hard buttons- even has a project at the "feature freeze" point of bug fixes before release- Tablet Tweaks.

Having seen what even a stock rooted Android 2.1 Nook Color can do, I wouldn't spend money on another 7" tablet. I might buy a 10" Honeycomb tablet like the XOOM if the prices come down for use at home where the extra screen real-estate outweighs the decreased portability. But the Nook Color would still be the device I take with me when I'm leaving home.

It's not double, its $150 more. Comparing it to the 32GB model isn't fair.
You gain a bigger screen (debatable if it's worth it- but for me- typing a little on a 7" screen would be an awkward size, 10" makes it better). And much more power... And bluetooth and all that jazz. With the ability to run 3.0 natively.
Worth $150, up to you.
Take the $300 GTablet. No IPS screen. Is $100 for an IPS screen running 3.0 worth $100? I think so.
Is it worth $150 more than the NC? That's more debatable I think, because you already have a IPS screen. The only thing lacking is 3.0 and the power.
Now....... If the keyboard is included in that $400 price: hands-down, $150 for a tablet you can attach a keyboard to is a freaking no-brainer... The Eee Pad Transformer kills the NC.
But if the keyboard is optional, it's up for debate.
Anytime I've seen the Eee Pad Transformer listed accidentally, it always seems to have the keyboard included. But other times, it seems like it might be an optional thing you buy extra. Weather or not the keyboard is part of that $400 is a huge thing, in my opinion.
If it is, not only does it murder the competition in the tablet market, it'll also murder the competition in the netbook market.
I'm waiting for release (rumored to be April 9) and pricing, and to see if the keyboard is included or not. That Eee Pad Transformer could viably be, a laptop replacement. 16 hours of battery life is awesome. The ability to also use it as a tablet is a huge plus as well.
The ONLY thing- I would want it to be able to do: is boot Windows (so I can use full Office and Windows programs). If I could make it do that: this is an awesome device. Why?
1) Light, long lasting netbook with some power
2) Full Windows apps (stream to 360, etc)
3) Tablet PC for light browsing or on the move
One device to rule them all, one device to bind them......

Of course but the problem is... The NC doesn't have that hardware configuration, lol.
I'm guessing, since it just released 4.5 months ago, we won't see a NC until this fall again. I love the fact B&N isn't trying to crush the open source community on it so I've got hope the next one will be the same way. They need to keep the cost cheap- I think they realize (especially with the upcoming update) they've nailed the cost/feature ratio. Hopefully they don't think, "It's a tablet now, let's charge more" on the NC2.
I'll say keep it and buy better tablet down the road.
I'm really interested in the Asus Transformer ($400 for 16GB) but I'll keep my Nook Color.

But for the same price (actually cheaper)... the Asus 10" gives you IPS, twice the RAM, twice the space...
While if you want 7" this will be the best viable option, could you deal with 3" bigger for better hardware, is the question.

I have a Droid Incredible (been rooted since root was available!) and love it. Anyway, my question is should I get one of these Nook Colors? They seem too good to be true, the price is cheap and it seems like a great tablet when paired with CM7 or other custom roms.
But I guess what I'm here to ask is, how do you guys use your Nook Color? If I already have a rooted smartphone that is with me at all times, what are some of the benefits of the Nook? What DON'T you like about the Nook?

Well, as a rooted incredible owner, i feel safe in chiming in.
Frankly, since getting my Nook, my incredible has seen almost 0 use, short of kicking on WiFi tether. The nook with CM7 is amazing, and does everything my Inc did, but better. Its more fun to game on, work on, and browse on, but still small enough to take with me everywhere. I love it.
What don't i like about it? Bluetooth range could be better, but thats about it...
When I'm not at work on a computer already, it's my go-to browser, email client, news reader, and e-reader.
I'm moderately jealous of the browsing experience on an iPad, and its silky smooth responsiveness.
I wish the Nook had 3G and a mic, but I'm certainly not complaining @ $249.
My introduction to Android was my Thunderbolt which of course I rooted and played with for awhile. Then the NC caught my eye since I've used a Sony reader for a few years and with a little net research I just had to have the NC.
Primary use = ebook reader
Bonus uses = games, internet and the ability to play with the Android OS with the comfort of knowing that no matter how bad I screw up the NC will boot from the SD card and can be fixed.
My NC normally runs the latest CM7 stable release but I can experiment with other roms whenever I feel like playing around and know that I can always reflash my last stable rom with all my settings and apps.
Btw is 225$ in ebay already.
The nook color is the first "tablet" I've owned. I've played with my friend's iPad enough to feel that a *minimum* $500 price tag was not worth it. Even compared to other tabs like the Xoom and Galaxy, I still feel $500 is not worth it.
The $250 price point is what did it for me. It's got great functionality and I've learned SO MUCH from this site and playing with it. my only gripe is it can get a little laggy. I haven't learned how to overclock it yet but that is probably the key to a more responsive experience.

I don't have a Droid Incredible, however, I do tend to use my Evo 4 G less that I use to because of the NC 7 in screen. With CM7, browsing, reading, gaming, & etc. are way better!!! My advice, get one!!!

using dalringo's builds the overclocking is in the settings menu (if that is what you are using)
I also have an Evo 4g and could NEVER put the thing down. Honestly since the nook color I use my Evo as a phone except for wifi tether (well I am flashing mikgs 3.0 Rom as I type this for my Evo. I got my NC on craigslist for $100.00 from a kid that didn't read one book on it, brought it home, rooted it, put cm7 on it and couldn't be happier. I also have a first Gen ipad that I don't even look at anymore. I actually have the ipad on craigslist for a trade for a Xoom. IMO the NC is the best bang for your Buck. It doesn't have a cam or GPS but your Droid Inc does ... SO GO GET IT AND PUT CM7 ON IT!

Another Incredible owner here: Other than making a phone call, or playing a high end game that requires my Monstrous laptop my nook has replaced EVERY SINGLE DEVICE in my house, for both myself and the wife.
Now that i have one I'm not sure what i did without it!
Also using Incredible, I consider the NC one of my best purchases. So much can be done.
Still rocking the Incredible with the XDA Premium App.
I am not using stock firm, but always used CM7 ROMs. I loved when I used Froyo, but with Gingerbread update i hated it due to battery bug. It won't go to sleep and drain the battery in 2-3 days without any use. But since CM7 nightly 82 build, they fixed this bug, and I love my Nook Color with Gingerbread.. You will love this toy. Its great!!!

What do I like? Nearly everything. Web browsing, games, photo display, netflix streaming, email, notes at work, task management at work, etc..
What don't I like? It doesn't support stylus input for ****.
Sure, I consider the Nook to be such a great tool, for what it was made and for all the potential it has resting within.
For such a low price, you can't go wrong with the Nook Color.

Might be your stylus. I have one I got from best buy, soft rubber tip - forget the manufacturer, but it's all black. I can go find out in a few days if you'd like.
Works great, haven't had an issue with it. I prefer to use my finger most often, but it comes in handy in some games.
In regards to the thread purpose, the Nook is definitely worth it if you are already here in this forum ... you have all the tools in front of you to unlock it's potential.
I don't have a smart phone, can't compare to that, but like others have mentioned before - perfect size of portability vs. usability. I still prefer a real sized monitor if possible, but more often then not there is no real pc around.
It's big enough to make browsing the web worthwhile, and not squinting into a tiny smart phone. I used to have an ipod touch, which is about that size, and it just wasn't a good web experience.
It rides along in one of the cargo pockets of my pants, can't tell you how often i've been glad to have it (even before I rooted it)
The price point makes it. At half the cost of a 'tablet' you get all the functionality, and darn close the power.
I don't think you'll regret picking one up if you do.
