Has anyone found the wireless charging accessories for this guy yet?
it's supposed to use the new wireless charging 'standard' so any pad with the same technology should work

Well I got my wireless charging pad and back cover today. The back cover is twice as thick as the stock cover. I came from a Palm Pre so I have a bunch of touchstones. Unforunately, I can confirm that the revo wireless charing system is NOT compatible with the touchstone. The verizon charging pad seems to sense when the phone is near and turns on. The touchstone did not, so that is probably one of the problems. I measured the voltage from the back of the touchstone cover and it wasaround 5.1 Volts. I am hoping I can use the touchstone coil on the stock cover of my revo and wire the charging leads to the revo. The revo has 4 pins for charging but the touchstone only has two, so I need to find out how to wire this. i may have to go through the USB 5V connection. I love my touchstone car mount and I am really hoping to be able to use the touchstones for charging the Revo.

Well there is a deal this month where you get the back free with the pad, so $70 for both. I got a little more discount because I complained that the only reason I needed a new phone and wireless charger is because my Palm Pre stopped working. I would say that it is worth the convenience. Constantly plugging in the micro usb charger due to the low battery life gets old. Now if I can get my touchstones to work, it will really be worth it.
And yes I have a '92 GSXR-750 and love to fly RC Planes and Helis, hence gsxrpilot.

I might have to get that then. Also, that's sick. My neighbor has a 20xx dsxr 750. They are a blast to ride.
Couple of gripes about this...
I bought the Wireless charging back for my Revo and it's not compatible with the Powermat that I already have, apparently the "qi" technology works differently than the induction that the Powermat uses. It IS compatible with the Energizer power mat which uses the same "qi" technology. but you're looking at the same price for either charging base.
Secondly, the wireless charging cover is twice as thick as the stock cover so any skins or cases you want to get for the phone will not fit. My silicon cover almost fits but buldges out on the sides.
I still think wireless charging is the way to go, just a heads up for those of you who are looking into this.
Well I got my touchstone to work with my Revo! I scraped the charging coil from the back of a palm pre cover (bought 2 for less than $5), then hot glued it on the back of my stock revo cover. I had to dremel 4 holes where the metal disks were and added 2 disks per hole since the revo is heavier than the pre and more disks help it stay on the touchstone better. I now have 4 little bumps on the back of my cover. I searched everywhere for the connector that would fit in the stock cover but couldn't find it. So I wound up using magnet wire and soldering directly to the charging tabs on the coil and the top of the connectors on the phone. Didn't have to use too much solder so I could remove the wires if I wanted to go back to the verizon charger. It is nice having the stock cover back, the verizon wireless cover was so much thicker.

OK,I think I attached the picture correctly. I did the following:
1. Remove the charging sticker and assembly from the back of the Palm Pre charging cover. Do not use the Pixi charging cover assembly, there is a ribbon in it that cannot be re-assembled after removal.
2. I took my dremel tool and routed some space off the inside back of the cover. The revolution cover is a bit thicker than the pre cover and I was concerned it might be too thick to allow the inductive power through.
3. I also routed some indentations in the back of the cover. (see Phone Back Image) I'm not sure if this was necessary either but I had really hoped I could mount the phone vertically on the touchstone in my car like the pre so i put a second set of metal disks behind the indentations. As it turned out, the revo is much heavier than the pre so this didn't work.
4. I glued the sticker and assembly to the back of the stock cover. First I tried crazy glue which didn't work that well so I wound up using hot glue.

how long would it take to charge the revo?
Charging probably takes slightly longer than through the USB port. The phone can get a little warm too but I have never had a problem. It's really convenient in the car where I glued the touchstone to my center console. If you have ever tried to drive while plugging in the tiny usb cable you will know what I am speaking about.

After seeing that someone used Palm's wireless charger on their non-palm phone; I decided to put one on my Droid Incredible.
***This was done to a completely stock Dinc. I did not use any special back, and the stock back gets to stay on (unlike in the other video that I saw)
Wireless Charging the Droid Incredible
**Disclaimer: This will void your warranty, and if you solder something wrong will probably break your phone. With that said I can in no way be held accountable for anything that occurs while performing this “upgrade” to your phone.

Supplies:

4.Soldering Iron (the finer the tip on this the better)
5.Torx T6 screw driver
6.Safe pry tool (or a small flat head screwdriver)
7.Very tiny insulated wires (I just pulled mine out of a USB cable that I cut up)
8.Electrical Tape
9.[Optional] Multimeter to test that you actually made a good connection
How To (Images are of a higher quality (12mp) so I had to stick them in zip files to get them on here):
1.The palm touchstone phone back has a sticker inside of it that encases the wireless charging receiver, so you need to peel this off. Once it is peeled off it will look like this (without the wires soldered onto it):

2.Remove the battery cover and the battery then unscrew the back from your phone (please view a tare down video for details, there are plenty of them on you tube that I used for a reference.)
1.All you need is a torx t6 screwdriver and a safe pry tool, I used a small flat head screwdriver and it worked just fine. Unscrew the 4 screws around the sides and then carefully pry off every place that the battery cover clips on, as they also hold on the red back.
(Images can be seen in: Dinc Inside.7z)
3.Solder on some wires to the USB connector as shown in the below image without soldering onto the pins next to them. This is difficult and takes some time and patience, since these connectors are very small and close (note the polarity in the image, notated in red).
A.Also it is necessary to place a piece of electrical tape over the components right next to the connector (Green box in the image) as they will short out the power and make it impossible to charge your phone if you do not (I found that out the hard way and went back and fixed it).
B.One final note here is that I had to melt down the red phone backing inside to allow the cables to get past the case. See the green rectangle in the image above for where I had to do that. I just used my soldering iron and melted it down, it makes a pretty nice indention for the wires to fit through.

4.Now push out the rubber plug in the red phone backing next to the USB cover (this is encircled in Green in the image from step 2).
A.Run the cables that you just solder on through that so that they are sticking through to the battery compartment on your phone.
B.You can also stick on the palm receiver to the inside of your phone cover (note the direction and placement, as this is necessary to close your cover).
3.Note that I placed electrical tape over the wires. This was necessary to keep them from breaking off of the USB connector since the solder points are so small.

5.Solder on the wires to the palm charger receiver and you are done. Now you just need to carefully place the wires towards the middle of the phone so that you can close the back of your phone entirely (this is another reason why the wires need to be small).
A.Note the polarity of the connection.
B.Also I put a piece of electrical tape over the connections on the palm charger receiver to protect them (not shown in the image).

What are you doing to align the coils? My biggest concern that's kept me from this is the magnets also would mess up the compass sensors readings which I for one actually value.

The coil alignment is handled by the magnets inside of the palm touchstone charger itself (the base unit that plugs into the wall). The metal objects that you can see in the "Palm Receiver.7z" file are actually not magnets, but small circular pieces of metal that get pulled towards the charger base when you get them close to each other. So when you have the phone off of the charger, there are no magnets to mess with anything
Also you will notice that there is a piece of metal behind the coil, and that seems to block the inductive signal all together (because I tried to put it on backwards to no avail). Therefore your phone is mostly protected from the inductive transmission.
The only thing that I noticed, is that the touchscreen on the phone is a little weird when it is on the charger, but I see the same side effects when plugging the phone into a "non-htc" charger (before performing this "upgrade"). **I also saw this on my Moto Droid when connecting it to a 1 amp charger, and I have seen this with multiple other touchscreen devices so I think it just has something to do with the frequency of the charger.
Also in case of any concerns: MY PHONE HAS IN NO WAY BEEN DAMAGED BY THIS "UPGRADE"

I think you will be ok if it is one of those thin (about 1mm thick) rubber cases. Anything thicker than that and you would probably have to install the wireless receiver on the case itself and remove your battery cover all together.
I tested a thin rubber case that I have (no more than 1mm thick I think) that fits a Droid Eris and it charges as long as its flush to the back of my phone.

Wow, this is amazing, very well done. I think this is the first hard mod I've heard of for an Android. I guess gold cards were a sorta gray area.
I've had my Incredible modded to work with a Touchstone since around June of last year. It works great, but I must caution anyone thinking of doing this to be VERY careful. Experience with soldering and a steady hand is a must. One could fairly easily mess up their phone attempting to do this.
Could you do this with a powermat if you wanted to? I have a few laying around I could use.

No, the transmission of data wirelessly is achieved through modulated EM waves. This is simple inductance: a changing electric field creates a magnetic field, a changing magnetic field generates an electric field, so a current carrying loop placed near another loop of wire will induce current in the other loop. The receiver in the phone is engineered to "create" the "proper" amount current to charge your battery when combined with the base. In theory yes, but not with this equipment.
How does the phone treat a USB cable being plugged in - will it charge ok, and have your data transfer rates been adversely effected? I wouldn't think so, since you're only touching the power...

I have used the USB charger and data transfer cables without any problems at all. Also I have copied some files off of my phone to my PC since the "upgrade" and did not notice any extended times or anything that would remotely make me think something was wrong.
I did not run a speed test before and after to see if anything slowed down, but as you said we are only touching the power pins, so I highly doubt anything has changed.
Didn't see any info about it here, so I figured I would chime in with some initial impressions.
The inductive back is a smooth texture, not crosshatched like the D4 is standard. It is a small distinction that I am sure will fade over time, but for now, it feels too slippery.
The inductive back does increase the thickness of the droid 4, it isn't a lot, but it is probably enough to make some cases not work. I still have to source an otterbox case to see if a) it fits, and b) to see if the case interferes with the inductive charge, I will report back when I find out.
I am at the office, so I cannot actually see how it plays with my energizer qi pad, hopefully it doesn't beep all the time like the verizon one reportedly does.

And bleh, Verizon charging pad beeps constantly? That... seems silly, to put it politely...
Well I havent used the verizon pad, but that is what I heard, beeps all the time, beep on connect, beep on full, beep on release.
I have had my droid on the energizer pad and it works and there were no beeps.
I like that orientation doesn't seem crucial. I had my phone at different angles and as long as you get the blue light, you are good to go.
I did see a demo where Panasonic made qi charger with a moving coil

That would rock, as then you don't have to worry about placement (not that that is a huge issue)
Quick update about the charger
I am having some issues, namely the phone will indicate it is charging, the charge pad will indicate it is charging, and yet after hours my battery meter has barely moved. Interestingly enough the phone lasts seems to last quite awhile on 20% battery. I think something is goofy with the battery reporting.
I will likely fully charge the phone over usb and then discharge as normal and see if that "resets" it.
I also worry that on and after you remove the phone from the charge pad the back is INCREDIBLY hot. Hot to the point where I am worrying it is hurting the battery.
Does anyone have the safe temp range for Droid 4 batteries? So I can monitor it.
If things don't sort out this weekend, I will be contacting Motorola about my issues.
I wonder if they will tell you to use the 'official' pad...
Also, you could try downloading Battery Monitor Widget to see what is going on wrt charging and discharging, including (dis)charge rates.
According to Wikipedia, operating temp for Li-ion batteries is up to 158F...however, heat above room temp causes them to lose capacity. The more "full" they are, the more capacity they lose in hot weather. Temps north of 100F in conjunction with a full charge would cause them to lose a third of their capacity in a year. Continuing to charge them past the point where they're full causes them to heat up, and eventually enter thermal runaway, a chain reaction that guarantees they keep heating until they ignite. Modern devices of course are designed to sense that point and stop before it's too late; that's why a multi-cell battery may never reach 100% charge: If one cell is at 100%, the charger stops, leaving the rest at a mere ninety-something.

well at one point today, i think the phone did overheat and would not turn on for about 20 minutes, the back was quite hot. Since then, I had it fully charge on the inductive pad (energizer qi) and it was not hot and fully charged.
I will be angry if I am told I have to use the VZW pad, what is the point of a standard if they don't follow it?
As far as thermal runaway, the Droid 4 does auto turn off charging when it is full whether on the pad or usb.

Wow... You are making me reconsider the induction pad. It sounds great, but if it generates excess heat, that might be a bad tradeoff given the battery isn't replaceable.
Just received mine in the mail this morning! I haven't played around with it too much, just confirmed it works (charged from 90% --> 100%).
I don't know whether I have an updated version or what, but the beep isn't too bad. I would say my dishwasher's beep is louder. I can see it being annoying if it was in a bedroom or something, but for my office (at home) it isn't too bad.

No I have not found a verizon store that has one I can try on and test with a charging pad.
I know the inductive case makes it a hair thicker so I worry about both fit, and charging.
Droid 4 + Charging Back + OtterBox Does NOT fit
Sorry to jump on someone else's thread, but I have received an Otter Box case for Motorola Droid 4 and I also have the inductive charging back, and with the charging back on the phone, the rear part of the case will NOT FIT.
I have tried the plastic rear case itself without the silicone rubber insert and even that won't fit.
I have left a post with Otterbox support to see if they MIGHT be working on a new case, But, I don't hold out much hope for that.
I have not received my charging pads yet, so I can not say if the Droid 4 can be charged through the case or not.. When I get the pads I'll give it a try and report back.

I was told it just replaced the back, as far as the Verizon rep could tell, it didn't plug into the usb port, but I didn't want to pony up the money for the back, and a mat just to find out I had to replace the phone anyhow.

It doesn't use the USB port. That's actually why I got one. I wanted to avoid wear and tear on the USB port.
That being said, I'd see if Verizon would send you a new one? They generally will unless there is evidence of gross abuse...

Thank you both for your replies, but I already used my insurance. I already took it into Verizon to see if they could do anything for us at the store. When the representative that helped us saw that the case around the screen was cracked, he told us if we attempted to use the warranty that Motorola would have said the reason the port no longer worked was from being dropped, even though being dropped had nothing to do with the port coming loose.
She now has a protective case for it, and hopefully keeps it on there, so the warranty can be used if it has port issues like the first one.
I am still thinking about getting her an inductive charge back, to keep wear and tear off the port. She tends to have it plugged in by her bed, and randomly answers texts throughout the night.

That's the problem, if you get the inductive charging cover, no current cases will fit. Since there is no possibility of using an extended battery with the Droid 4, the case manufacturers ASSUME that nobody needs a larger case. The inductive cover is not common and therefore is too much of a niche market for anyone to make a case for it. I tried hacking up a regular case but it didn't work out.

Can anyone out there confirm that any of the existing wireless charging mods on I9305 lte actually works?
The reason for my asking is that the my usb charging socket started to show signs of wear and tear . Basically my phones socket became very sensitive to any standard micro usb charging cable. Sometimes it works but 50% of times it doesnt. (I have tried four different cables)
The only cable that works 100% is the MHL one (HDMI-out with USB-charge) which is slightly longer and goes in deeper into the socket (making better connection). Since I've realized the issue was with the mechanical failure of the usb port I decided to explore the wireless charging methods.
There is a big thread about it (which is locked due to people misbehaving) so please do not post links to mods (I've read them all).
I even took the plunge and I have bought all the gear for palm mod (that didnt work) and the gear for QI mod (that did not work either).
Im beginning to think that either my fone is faulty (but no way of proving it since there is no official Samsung wireless charging yet) or perhaps there is something I need to do with software (custom ROM?).I am on latest rooted stock rom by Lyriquid, BTW
Any help is appreciated.

Yes: My GT-I9305 is enhanced using the charging coil, etc., out of a Palm Pixi Touchstone back cover with a Palm Touchstone puck. I used copper tape and resoldered the contact points on the wireless charging coil so that they align with the contacts in the phone. The coil is stuck inside the unmodified original back cover using the white sticky cover from inside the Pixi, and some white duct tape to cover the copper tape extensions out to the contacts. I have reused the metal disks with the sticky coil cover to locate the back on the charging puck.
It charges at about 230 mA through my TPU back cover, slower than normal, but perfectly adequate.
The Touchstone puck is fussy about cables and USB PSUs.

I will try that setup again but with different USB cables and chargers perhaps.
Im guessing there isnt any led confirming that the puck is on ?

Hi guys,
I've used the palm wireless charger with one of those stickers that you attach to the phone on top of battery. It was working perfect but you have to put the phone with this sticker exactly on the middle of the charger otherwise won't work. If you have a case on the phone won't work either. It takes to much time until it charges the battery (I've had a 4500ma ). You can check if the wireless pad works with a multimeter. Put the sticker on it and check if it gets any electricity. :thumbup:

Yes, now I know I need a sticker. Also as I realised I needed the sticker I thougjt I might put magnets as well too.
Then I tried this all and it was wouldn't work with my flip cover so I've attached the palm sticker to the bak of my flip-over case and put the original backing away.
Now its all brilliant . I have my phone in my case and charging wirelessly with no issues.
Those usb sockets arent really made to last, arent they

if you want a "pre-manufactured" wireless charging solution, you can also go on ebay and buy the Qi wireless receiver pad. it fits underneath the battery door as well and NFC still works. The only thing I don't like about it is that it causes a small "dome" on the battery cover so if you use a case, the more "sturdy" ones like the otterbox or the ballistic or anything that will hold its shape to overcome the slight bump.
apart from that if you're handy w/ modding and such, the palm touchstone mod is also perfect since it's insanely cheaper than anything that is offered out there.

Heres the backround on what i did to get wireless charging going...
1) get palm coil and touchstone. i bought this on ebay for 10$ (just search touchstone charging kit)
2) carefully remove the coil from the back cover of the palm phone. plastic cover first then the rest.
3) what worked easiest for me was to keep all the coil stuff stuck to the removable plastic piece holding everything together, then you can simply stick it in the back of our active covers. (make sure when moving the magnets all the positive sides are facing towards the dock)
4) Connecting it. I tried doing this a couple different ways and i eventually ended up pulling tiny copper wire out of computer speaker cable and used it like a twist tie on the phone terminals (then small amount of electrical tape to separate them...which worked out fine)*I attempted to do the same on the coil side of the connection but that was a bust so i ended up soldering it.. not my first choice but since its on the palm coil not my active I did it.*
5) you should be all good to go at this point

Use a multimeter...if you dont know how, you probably shouldn't attempt this hack and should wait for an aftermarket back plate to come out
Out of curiosity, how strong are these magnets? Am I going to have to make sure that my phone gets nowhere near my credit cards (and other magnetic cards, media, etc.)?

They are fairly strong but I have yet to have any issues with my cards...however I usually keep my phone in a separate pocket
Have you tested the phones waterproof capabilities since you did this mod? I love the idea, want to do it, but im on the fence, as it seems it would make it very easy to make the waterproofing gasket fail with a small wire.... on the other hand, you dont have to take the back off, or open the charging port, so if it doesn't void the waterproofing, it could be even better
Obviously, if any wire or any part of the wireless receiver protrudes over the seal, the water resistance will be compromised, but that's not the only issue.
In the back panel replacement sticker on the back of the S4A, it tells you to press under the camera LED. Pressing there engages the rubber seal. The issue is that any of these non-oem wireless receivers is going to slightly lift the central portion of the back away from the phone. Thus, even if no part of the seal-line is breached, I still wouldn't trust that the seal could engage fully.
Don't get me wrong... I'm going to do something similar, since I'd rather have wireless charging. Still... until an OEM wireless charging backplate comes from Samsung, I'd assume it's an either/or situation. Wireless charging OR water resistance.

I will fix the wire issue by using copper tape. I'm excited to try it...
I am doing this mod tonight and I thought I would share some information.
See below for the information I have gathered:
Yellow lines = Copper tape- as you can tell it gets very cramped around the end because of the gasket. I may need to use a different path or wires like the OP. The important stuff to gather from this is which is positive and which is negative on both the phone and the palm pre touchstone.
Nice idea, curious to see how this works out.

My copper tape has not arrived but I installed everything else. It does appear that the coil makes the rear housing push out which leads me to believe it will not do well to repel water away from the seal during extended use but I would prefer wireless charging
If you plan on using a case I would recommend ordering stronger magnets from supermagnets.com part number Disc - D1046. These should work well with any case and it will fit more snug because they are a lot stronger. I will update with photos once the copper tape is installed and everything is working.
Am I missing something? Why doesn't the Samsung wireless charging kit work or the wireless receiver tags you can get for the S4 so you can use a Qi charger?

The battery door is different. In theory it will work but you would have to figure out a way to gut the back plate and that would be a lot harder than palm's touchstone mod. Or just wait for the active's wireless back plate to be released. This is a lot cheaper IMO $10 vs $30-150

If you search on Amazon or Ebay "Galaxy S4 wireless charging receiver tag" there's the component which is stuck inside the back cover Samsung is selling. Except it can be bought for $10-20 and most likely can fit in the Active. I don't know because I have the original S4 but just trying to throw out some ideas. In theory if the tag works you can get it for $15 then use any Qi charger and you're good. While not quite as cheap it's only a few bucks more and much easier and looks way better probably. That is if it works of course.

It probably will work but it will cost a lot more than this mod we are talking about. It will be a lot easier to install though

I paid a little more because I wanted to get it this week. The cheaper ones come from China and may take a while. I now need a replacement back for my active, somehow with the palm mod one of my clips doesnt work any longer so under my volume rocker it is propped up. Excited to have wireless charging. Hopefully this week

A few days ago I made a working wireless charger for Motorola Droid 4.
What are the benefits?
People says, the original inductive charging cover is not compatible with most of cases.
Who live away from USA, can't use a wireless charger, becouse it is only available (officially) in the US. It is very hard to find on eBay or any other site. Almost impossible.
Very cheap. The original charging cover at US, Verzion is $29.99. (+ shipping, and need a person who ship it to me) It is only a cover, and we still need a charger as well.
So, I found a charging pad with and without receivers. There was a small problem. The receivers are only for Samsung Galaxy S3, S4 and Note. Their connectors aren't compatible with Droid 4, but the charging voltage is OK.
We need to take it to compatible with Droid 4. I looking for a long time, which one can I choose. Fortunately I made the right decision.

That is only for $30.10 with EU plug. The package include charging pad, usb cable, 1500mAh charger and S3 compatible receiver, and worldwide free shipping.
The size of receiver unit is compatible with free space of phone. We need some cutting but it isn't horrible.
First, I recommend you try, how fits the module in your phone.
Then mark with a felt.
The electrical connector pins are big, (and incompatible) we need to remove it carefully. I used a rework station with hot air (360°C) but you can use a medium sized soldering iron. I think, about 50-60W of power is enough. It took for about 30 secs per pin.
It is important, you need to place the receiver in such a manner, if you remove the back cover, the S3 and some other text need to be visible! Otherwise it will not work!
You see backside of the phone, and the camera is on top. Removed cover. In the right side, you can see four copper pins. The top row is irrelevant. We need tha bottom row. In the bottom row, on the left tere is the +5 V pin. On the right, there is a Ground pin.
We need to make contact between +5V pin of the phone and the +5V charging pin of the receiver unit.
Place the receiver unit to the phone, and see what size of copper wire you need. The lower pin of receiver unit is the +5V. We need to connect it.
I used a wire,1 mm in diameter. It is lacquered, I cycled down it from an electrical part (coil).
I think, that half millimeter in diameter is enough, but a found that, and it is recommended due to the relative high current (about 1A).
When you use thinner wire, you can easier take the cover to the phone.
So you need to solder wire to receiver's +5V pin. Please use the minimum quantity of soldering wire, becouse if you make a big knot there, you will have not enough place to take cover back.
When it is done, you can see how can you bend (or cut) the wire for best connectivity with phone's 5V pin.
Now you need to solder a wire to ground, like the previovus one, but not sure, that the two wore have enough space, and we can make easily short corcuit.
For this reason, we will use the iron cover of the SD card slot. This is a very good ground point.
So, one cable will go down, other is go up. They can fit and the soldering is more easy.
PLEASE BE CAREFUL! I recommend, before you make any electrical or hot operating you need to put an aluminium foil or an iron plate to top of the battery. I think to taking out battery and then in, is not easily possible, becouse after soldering there are the receiver. The battery can damage and explosive! The plastic parts of pohone can tolerate the heat for sort time! If you can not solder succesfuly, you need to wait while the parts cooling down! I recommend, use flux and/or high quality of soldering tin. Take out the SD Card! Please don't make short circuit!
It is not too difficult, but you need to be careful and attentive.
When the soldering done, you can try the charger.
Before you can take cover to phone, you need to cut the lower center of receiver. (you can see on the cover, exactly where. There are a claw and on the phone there ara a hole) Important! We need all of holes on phone, so the wires must not hang in to holes.
I cut the piece of receiver unit from lower left side, at the speaker.
Thats all. We are done. I think it longer to read than make :cyclops:
I made some pictures, I will mark these and upload in short time.
I'm going to measure the charging time with:
1,5A USB charger (direct cable)
1,5A USB charger with wireless charging pad
1,5A USB charger with wireless charging pad (phone in a 1 mm thickness of Trident case)
0,5A standard laptop USB (direct cable)
0,5A standard laptop USB with wireless charging pad
0,5A standard laptop USB with wireless charging pad (phone in a 1 mm thickness of Trident case)
I use that from 3 days ago. It works correctly. By the factory, the charging current is 1000mA with the 1,5A charger. About 66% of efficiency.
The USB charger's stand by consumption is 0,4W.
When the charging pad is connected and it is in stand by mode, the consumption is 0,98W
I'm going to bring images, and refresh the post, but here (Hungary, GMT +1) the time is am 2:31.

My IQ receiver was a bit higher, or the battery, so I had troubles to fit it in. My solution was to cut every superfluous piece and pull the uper layer of slide away. Additionally, I put it a bit nearer to the camera, The last thing was to horizontally cut the gold contacts and solder the wire directly on them.
During charging, the usb charger+pad+droid 4 use 7W, without the droid 4 the pad+charger draw 0,4W, both measured at the primary side ot the charger.

Different approach, same result
Hi, thanx 4 the great idea.
I took a different approach to install the charging pad. I felt not comfortable to solder directly to the phone, so I used copper-tape, capton-tape and some short wires I took from old headphones to mod the pad directly into the back cover of my phone. it got a little bit bumpier (half a mm), but it charges perfectly.
I applied some solder to the ends which connect to the pins, so the copper wont oxidize and the connection has more pressure.

That's a nice solution, and pretty much how the "real thing" was probably set up. I noticed that the back has an internal indentation where the pins are to accommodate the connector, and I had experimented with how I might fit a charging pad in there (actually, it was the connectors that I saw as the biggest challenge), but didn't manage to get anything that I thought was robust enough (I was using cut down parts of a SIM card for the pins to make contact with - you look to have done a better job with the copper tape.
I'm really surprised that we can't buy a new back with all of this gubbins already installed - perhaps you should manufacture a few?

i'm tempted to try this myself. the droid4 keeps getting better.
i just experimented with cardboard, seems to have plenty of room between the cover and the battery. i definitely need inductive charging.

Hi! I copied your method for wireless charging but I was too lazy for soldering. That is why I used only copper tape. I ordered under 5$ charging pad and receiver for Galaxy S3 (cheap from China) and it is working good. My receiver says that it can output only 0.8A so I guess it is little bit slow. Can you tell your feelings about the heat? I think that my Droid 4 is pretty hot but I never used wireless charging on other phones so I don't know if it is normal. But thanks anyway posting your method :good:
