nookcolor 1.0.0 with official update to 1.0.1 then with autoroot, that enable android market, and run smoothly
after update to 1.1.0 use the following rom [ROM] Nook Color V1.1.0_r2, market won't run anymore, I tried to
use http://market.android.com to install new apps, but it doesn't work too. does anyone have the clue?
[ROM] Nook Color V1.1.0_r2
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=932145
tried to restore to origianl 1.0.0 rom, but it boot to Clockwork Recovery everytime
what do you mean market wont run? if you are getting the server error message just wait eventually it will work. it seems like with the new market, google is changing settings on peoples accounts which will block your device from accessing the market. i had the same problem but the next day it was gone.
if you tried to put your nook back to stock and now its only booting into CWR go to the developers thread and they have multiple ways to recover your nook
here
and here
To restore to stock you need to remove the SD card and then press and hold the power button until it powers off and then press to turn on, wait until the N appears and press and hold power until it turns off and then repeat this process for like 8 times or so and it will then update the firmware to stock.
Im seeing the same thing.. Ver 1.1.0 and get the Market Server error everytime i try to launch the Market.
I updated to 1.1 and then booted with Autonooter 3.0 image. The Market works fine setup wizard was all I needed and all my apps are there. So, it's not definitely not the B&N 1.1 update causing the problem.
Also couldn't get the market to run after upgrading to 1.1.0
Press the icon and it would flash a white screen then back to the app folder. Youtube was doing this as well and I was able to fix it by removing and reinstalling, but I can't do this with the market apparently (just keeps running the install then saying market not installed)
I tried to make anflashable evrsion of the vending.qpk but it didn't even run because I have no clue how to make flashable packages for CWR.
Any ideas? Kinda sux not having the market

Don't use CWN and that ROM then (not that there's anything wrong with it).
Backup anything you don't want to lose by copying it your computer in any way you can / want.
Instead try going back to stock like described here...
http://www.nookdevs.com/Flash_back_to_clean_stock_ROM
Then update to 1.1 from official B&N update found here...
http://www.barnesandnoble.com/u/nookcolor-support-software-update/379002520/?cds2Pid=35758
Then boot with AutoNooter 3.0 from here...
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=942424
Connect to WiFi and then just follow the setup wizard.
After that...run the market, agree to market terms and you're done!
FYI, I didn't have to use Youtube to get the Market to work. The Setup Wizard worked all on it's own.
Ok, let me rephrase. Any ideas on why I can't instal the market. Tips to get it reinstalled? I did this once on my phone and I had to remove all traces of the market first, hurt I can't remember where all the files and folders were located.
I like using CWR as it is what I am familiar with

Market runs -but not well...?
Total newbie - seamlessly rooted NC 1.1 yesterday - (so grateful to developers!)
One of the only problems I have encountered is with Market -- I've searched and searched these forums to see if anyone else is having a similar problem -- but have yet to find anything.
I am able to access Market, and download apps with no problem. The only issue is when I view anything in the Market, it only shows roughly 10 results in any list I view. If I do a search, it may indicate that there are 754 results but will only list 10-12 of the results. Not a dealbreaker of course but if there's a work around, or fix, I'd love to know.
TIA

Use AppBrain app. You're on older android market.
Took the gapps zip from the Monster package and removed all files except the contents of META-INF and the vending.apk and flashed in CWR, market back .

Turn your NC to landscape.
yeah im lost right now regarding nook, just got it yesterday, my version is 1.0.1
1) Do I upgrade to 1.1.0? And then use Auto-Nooter.
2) Or is 1.1.0 to new right now and just root 1.0.1 and then Auto-Nooter.
This is the link I'm going to follow unless someone has better suggestion/input.
http://nookdevs.com/NookColor_Rooting
Thanks
i'm actually wondering the same thing.
You can root any of the three versions. Just decision which and there are ways to do it. I'd recommended the monster root pack or autonooter. Both work well.
Sent from my nootered Nook Color.
So I guess my question is which is more stable/functional.
Do I just root at firmware 1.0.1? Is that the best option.
Or is there any advantage of upgrading to 1.1.0 and then rooting?
I am a newb too, I just downloaded the Auto-nooter-3.0.0.zip found elsewhere on this site. It roots 1.1.0 and I have to say it was as easy as anyone could ask for. I'd recommend just go ahead and update to 1.1.0 and then use this to auto-nooter your nook. Works like a charm. I should add that in previous versions ai have had issues getting set up with gmail and youtube, gmail worked but youtube always got borked for some reason... on this one, both are working fine, I have downloaded 2 apps already.

Which site did you use to download and follow instructions? can you post the link

Thanks for the help, so I got the process done at 1.1.0
My questions are:
1. When I install apps on the Market, I can open the app through the Download folder, but how do I get the icon on the Extras section?
2. What is the best method to configure the Soft Keys, any recommendations.
Thanks

Unfortunately I'm still too new to this site to post links, but if you go poke around in the nook color portal on nookdevs.com there are some great tips/instructions for configuring the softkeys software. I will say that I've found using a stand alone launcher (I use ADW EX) with softkeys is a great experience, and probably the most functional/useful.

Just restart system and all installed apps will show up in Extras... Have to do it everytime you install new apps
Anyone gotten the new ROM yet? I followed the instructions over at the this thread and it doesn't look like it worked.
The instruction that states "Once you are back up, you can use the browser to download and run .APK files from anywhere."..
When I go to the browser and try to select "Zeam-2.9.2.apk" or "Superuser.apk" which are mentioned in the post, I get an 'Unsupported file format'.
Sounds like something didn't work right, but I'm not sure what that is.. anyone here seen that problem?
I tried to post this in that thread, but didn't have access to it....
You can install without unrooting on 1.1 version only. 1.0 and 1.01 need to be unrooted. Once the update is installed, you can use this hack (hamncheese's) to kinda root the new stock froyo version, but it is not a real rooting. As of 4:45pm pst no one has gotten a working root for the new 1.2 version. Give it a couple of days and they will have a method to totally root the nook on the new version. Or, you can run dual boot and be happy for the time being until they get the new root patch.
......
I probably should have been clearer.. my bad.. I did try hamncheese's kinda root, but it didn't look like it worked.

You and me both.......... LOL I d give it a couple of days maybe tomorrow they will have the root patch figured out... Tell you wife it has been only 24 hours......... XDA Devs are fast but sheesh....... they need a little time......
I was unable to do this. It attempted to install, then rebooted, then attempted installation, then rebooted... I unrooted, did a full restore and allowed the update. Not so impressed to be honest with the stock Froyo. Seriously considering going back to rooted 1.1.
Read the thread, it sure does not work hope someone comes up with an answer. Thanks
Just got my Nook and had it updated in the store. The guy says, "it should have lots of other apps plus Angry Birds".
Well, it is 1.2, but no apps and no Angry Birds... Figures.
I too hope someone gets 1.2 Root-able soon.
I sideloaded 1.2 and in the "shop" section, you can "buy" Angry Birds. It's $2.99. Its not RIO or Seasons but it is Angry Birds so maybe you can appease the wife until a root is released. I downloaded it (bought it) and it works great! Ken
anyone know when an new auto-root might be out?
Should be very soon. They got the market working in the manual root.

I know some say the market works but I am still having trouble with it. I cannot seem to install anything. I click the app to download and install, it "starts" the download but the progress bar doesnt fill. Then it suddenly fills, says installing, then dumps me back to the app's description page, with nothing installed. It reports that the "download unsuccessful" so I repeat the install again...no change
I am tempted to go back to 1.1 since 1.2 doesnt offer me anything new unless rooted....

Forget about running netflix unless you are willing to flash the cyanogen rom. There are settings that you simply cannot change (at this time) without switching to a different rom. I dont know what to tell you other than to follow the directions others have already posted. The problem with the cyanogen rom is that it does not put the nook to sleep properly when the screen is turned off, so the battery life drains like a leaky faucet. But, I think they have finally started to figure that out so I think that it should be added to one of the next iterations. Once it does, I will happily switch over to using that rom, especially now that the nook app allows magazines etc.
UPDATE ON FAILED INSTALLS: Turns out that only SOME applications do not install correctly, I have been able to install others from the android market place and amazon market place. Angry birds (any version) is one that will NOT install. Any tips? I have definitely used an sd card properly with no change.

That is not correct; with rooted stock 1.2 it is quite simple (especially with Root Explorer).
As for installing Angry Birds, if you are on rooted stock 1.2, try downloading it WITHOUT the SD card mounted.
interesting
Interesting, I will try to enable netflix by changing the file using this method:
http://reviewhorizon.com/2011/05/how-to-watch-netflix-on-nook-color/
I had read a post that mentioned I needed to use ES File explorer to access the file. ES File explorer didnt want to cooperate and complained about my rom, and i figured I need to be running a different rom.
As for the angry birds, I have tried installing with and without the sd card and not had any luck.

when you first install an app, it should ask you what you want to install it with. One option is "Android Package Installer" and that's the one you want. I chose the other one the first time around and ended up restoring and rechoosing. The other package installer (i think it's called nook something or other) does not allow you to select the permissions for the program, and thus, will not install the applications properly.
To test and see if that is the issue, try to install an app... if it comes up with the permissions for the app upon install, then that is probably not the issue. On the other hand, if it immediately just says failed, then you may have chosen the wrong package installer.
also,
For problems with large file install errors, such as angry birds, try installing the kernel in the this thread... that's what worked for me. Alternatively, if you want to install angry birds, etc, then you can copy the apk over to internal memory, take the sd card out, and then install it. (this kernel makes that unnecessary though)
Rooting nook is easy when using the CM7 Mod. You can get the market working with out problem and would be able to run most application and games. I had raging thunder 2 running with out problem.
The thing that I don't like on it is that, CM7's replacement of the stock softkeys (navigation buttons on the buttom) seems to be designed for mobile phones as they are small buttons.
So i unrooted my nook but would be trying this link and see what i can get:

Since this BBS considers me a noob, I am posting to this forum instead of the developer forum.
There has been some excellent work done on updating the ManualNooter to support the latest Nook Color software release 1.4.1. GMPOWER posted a new ManualNooter version 5.12.19 that rolls up all of the previous versions plus the tweaks to get 1.4.1 working on the NC.
I started with a stock 1.3 then updated to 1.4.1 before applying MN 4.15.15 then MN 4.6.16 before changing the permissions allowing 3rd party apps. Of course Market and the B&N Shop didn't work as documented. Next I tried 4.6.16 without success before applying GMPOWER's 4.15.19. Now I can download purchased items from the Shop but none of the Google apps work including Market.
I know that billingdl was able to get everything working doing something similar to me, but I can't seem to get the Google apps working. They fail when loading so I assume that it is a problem with them trying to authenticate my account. I would have gone back to a stock NC last night if I would have found the link to the one-click factory restore and tried just applying 4.15.19. Does anyone have any idea on how I can get the Google apps working again?
Thanks,
Mark

I understood the "secret" to GMPOWER's mn-5-12-1X was that it did NOT incorporate some of the database mods that the previous versions did. If you ran the previous versions, they broke things, in other words. I was in the same situation, and actually did the factory reset then just ran GMPOWER's latest. Everything is working fine now.
What method did you use for a factory reset. There are about 3 of them out there. A couple of days ago I saw a link for one-click reset, but now I can't find it.
Thanks bobstro!
I stopped being lazy and took my NC back to a stock 1.4.1 then applied GMPOWER's fix. Market and Gmail work along with the B&N Shop downloads. I still can't get the Google search widget to open up in a browser though. Now I have the fun of restoring all of my apps to the NC. At least everything work. Thanks to bobstro for the nudge and GMPOWER for his excellent work.

I have 2 nooks, a nook color and a touch which both started having issues with the market sunday. Both worked Saturday and as far as I know there was no update. The color gives a server error and won't even connect. The touch is unable to download anything. This appears to only affect the market app. I can connect directly with a browser. Both have cm7. Anyone have any thoughts?

Have same issue on my Nook color yesterday.. WIFI is on, able to browse through browser, but when was trying to connect to marked it says "No Connection" RETRY. Are you able to resolve it?
Hey, y'all! I'm getting the same problem too, I just loaded CM7 to my NC and the market won't function. I even installed the Play Store from an apk and all that shows up is "Server Error" and a retry button. And, retrying gives the same screen. Help would be very much appreciated!
Has anyone been able to get the Market Place or Play Store to work properly? I've tried deleting the data and the cache for the new Play Store. I've gone back to an older verision of the Market Place...and I get the same "No Connection" Retry error.
I get into the Market and can look around without any problems. But when I try to access my apps, it fails. I'm not able to update any of my apps.
I have no problem with play store today and yesterday. I am running CM7 on uSD from dual CM7/CM9 image with 0305 update.
I resolved the market issue by restoring the last backup. I am not sure what happened but it looks like I lost a few things somewhere. I am having no problems with the new market either, and it also works with ics (on sd) for me.

i bought this nook for my wife back in march of 2011, when i got it i rooted it. the current version is 1.1.0. but the only thing i can see that is different from the original nook is the market. all i want to do is update the market because there are alot of apps that are not available as its an old version of the market. the app i am looking for is mbs digital direct. she needs this to be able to read some ebooks for class.
can someone please help me update the market so that it will be the most current one. thank you so much for your time.

I'm not sure the issue is the market app. 1.1 was an old version of android (eclair) and the mbs app may need froyo or higher before the market will allow it to be shown as available.
I recommend that you update your B&N software to the latest version (1.4.3) and root it again. Use Manual Nooter 5.08.20 to root it. It will then have the latest market (play store) and be updated to froyo. Look at my tips thread linked in my signature and look at item A15 to get the update. You can always make a nandroid backup of your system with CWM as it is now and if you don't like the new version, just restore your backup to return to rooted 1.1.
PS, the reviews that I saw for that app are terrible. You might want to check that out before making any changes.
EDIT: GMPOWER says it needs gingerbread so updating to 1.4.3 will not help. It is froyo and is one level down from gingerbread. I now recommend putting CM7 on an SD install. To do that, follow Taosaur's blog here:

The app specifically says that it requires android version 2.3 (Gingerbread) and up. You will need to install CM7 over the stock firmware, or on the SD card, all of that information should be covered in "leapinlar's" tips page.
