So My girlfriend has Garminfone and there is no info on the internet at all on how to overclock or a custom kernel or anything really so i Have rooted it but would like to do more so i have done a lil research and will like to build Custom Recovery for the phone but before i start i thought i would post a thread here with all my Optimus one family that i trust and love to get some tips and hopefully even some instructions as the instructions online are hard to fallow ??? so anything ???
Can give a clear answer about that, because its different for most phones.
Some phones like our Optimus One have a recoverypartition, a phone like Samsung Galaxy 3 has not. It took some work to port CWM to that phone and mumbozver (an XDA-user on de Galaxy 3-thread) managed to port it to that phone).
Guess it's best to post a question in the main android-section for this
make "cat /proc/mtd" in "adb shell".
If there are error - porting will be hard

Maybe start with telling us which phone we are talking about...
Here some specs that might help you:
Garminfone is the market name from "Nüviphone A50".
- MSM7227 chipset
- ARM Cortex A11 procssesor (ARMv6) @600MHz
- 256MB RAM
- 4GB ROM
- A-GPS
- WLAN b/g
- 3MP camera
- display have 480 x 320 Pixel
with this informations you can go at first to the step from mik, if it works might be
you can adapt a custom recovery for that phone
Oh... Nuviphone A50. I got this junk for free with their navigation. Well, frankly - you are better off throwing that brick away. One of the worst Android phones ever.

Well, if the guys on the thread I have linked are not even willing to team up to finally produce something after basically having wasted about a year on this without getting it even bootable... good luck with this.
I would personally suggest bricking the phone intentionally and claiming warranty. Pretty sure this junk has been EOLed so you might get a decent phone as replacement. (Though, you might be unfortunate enough to get a brand new replacement brick since the Garmin's stock must be full of these collecting dust. )

It may sound stupid
But still...want to ask! for example i may have a skills to replace a processor!!! for phone...dont think so tho
I just found it interesting
Would it be possible to change our processor to armv7
i havent studied our phone shematics and staff
but if it would fit...and it could be placed and connected right
would everything work? well if someone knows
I like going deep in things!!! some may understand!
dont say it isnt interesting ;D
but how possible it is...i have big doubts about that
go ahead and try.
Ofcourse you can't replace it
but would be cool!
Overclock to 820mhz and this should melt the solder and make your arm 6 easy to remove ha ha. Its a good question, when you were studying did you notice if an arm 7 would even fit? and if it did fit and manage to work well with all other components do you think software support might be a stumbling block. Keep us updated if you do get brave and try it, you might want to see if an x10 mini 5mp lens would work 1st, it would be a nice unique mod.
;D u know how much we want things to be better! But some things are impossible to get done i suppose, however ill try to discover everything about it!
Haha, you are wrong here.nothing is impossible.i believe it would work.and for sure if i had armv7 processor i would try it.if psp has armv7,i will try it.

I have a few minor scratches.i ran over it with a tractor!and its still in a great shape!

Replacing processor in x8 is different with replacing PC's processor. Afaik, however, there is governor wich the driver of most xda processor, you still need new kernel for your new arm7, it means you have to bypass the bootloader first.. then you make a miniloader for your new chipset. Btw, is x8 like wheels " sell in parts ! " LoL..

Youre right, so I thought!!!
I hate hearing rumors, I really do. But I'm going to start one because mine has some merit to it. I have a friend of mine that works for Verizon. I told him I wouldn't state his name or what "department" he works in when I made this post. I was talking to him on the phone just about 45 minutes ago about the Revolution and how we're dying to get Gingerbread and how some people are actually getting rid of the Revo for fear that it will never get GB. Here's the conversation that took place.
Me: I just really wish we'd get it already. It would help out with development so much.
Him: Dude, whatever you do, don't get rid of your Revo.
Me: Haha, I'm not but why?
Him: You guys should be getting the soak test soon and as long as it goes good all Revos will have it by mid or late October.
Me: Don't bull**** me, how do you know?
Him: Trust me, it just came through an email 2 days ago. I meant to call you but I couldn't remember if you had actually bought the Revo or just waited for something different.
Me: Damn man that's awesome! You better not be bullshitting me.
Him: I'll put it this way, I put my paycheck on it.
Me: That's awesome man, hey can I tell people about our convo?
Him: I don't care, just don't use my name or where I work.
Me: Kinda HAVE to tell people where you work or I'll look like a retard hahaha.
Him: Oh ok but don't tell them what department I work in or anything. I already almost got fired a while back for putting out some info about the Bionic hahaha.
Me: Alright cool, hey thanks man. You have no idea how happy a lot of people are going to be when we get GB.
The rest of the convo was filled with nonsense talk about times past (and girls haha). Just thought I should share this info with you guys!
Loving this. I want GB!!!
I'm speechless
Thanks for the news.

a Soak Test is when the send out the update to a select few people and make sure that the update works in the real world with out breaking anything.

Soak testing is testing a system with a significant load over an extended period of time to discover how things act over a long period.
What he is saying is there are Revo's out there with 2.3.4 already installed on them. Verizon employees will carry and use a Revo on a daily basis with 2.3 loaded to see how it performs, what glitches arise etc...
If you play video games its kind of like an beta test only its not generally open to the public. During this time they also test the push out of the update to the phone to make sure everything will go smooth when they start pushing it to thousands at once.

Just want to update you guys a little more from my newest conversation.
Unfortunately he is in no position to get us a leak.
He works for tech support and received an email stating to be ready for possible high call volumes in about 2-3 weeks as the Gingerbread soak test begins for the LG Revolution. That was about all the email said.
Again though, this is in no way going to help us get a leak. Sorry guys.

V6 update? maybe luck out and get an update in the next 2-3 weeks
Hmmm?
Might be worth having a stock phone if it got the OTA update with gingerbread in it.
Think i'm going to check out Revolt 1.4 tonight and go back to stock in the morning.
Please, any thoughts on this?

I wouldn't worry about going to back to stock just yet. According to the email, the soak isn't even going to start unil about 2-3 weeks from Monday the 12th.
Not sure how lg does it but you can sign up for these soak test with motorola they will even send them out to a few people who have gotten root access and have gotten back to stock as close as possible without having root access. check the droid 3 forums they just either did one or just sent out the invite to join the soak test. While the Revo is a great single core phone... Hardware wise.
Bionic:
1. Dual Core future proof
2. 2.3.4 out of the box
3. Gorilla glass screen
4. qHD
5. 8mp Camera
6. 1745 MaH battery
7. 1080p Video recording
8. For the non-rooted - No Bing.

Throwing more cores at a device does not necessarily increase performance, either, unless the application base and operating system takes full advantage of them for multi-threading.
Case in point: Most hard-core games on a PC that came out over the past 5 years will run the same, if not better on a single or dual core machine as they did on a quad core. What really makes the difference is architecture, clockspeed, application architecture, and most importantly (assuming the apps use it) GPU implementation!
Assuming all apps were hardware accelerated on an Android, you would care more about the GPU then you would the CPU. Being that a lot of apps are not hardware accelerated, or take advantage of aggressive multi-threading, you may actually see a performance drop on the Bionic depending on the implementation of the devices core implementation (much like the scores from the Atrix showed).
The hype of more cores = smoother experience is bunk. It's just a spec and numbers war. More cores = possibility of more apps running seamlessly at once, but only if the architecture is there to support it.
What do you guys think, does our lowly HeroC have what it takes? Also, even if it does, do we have the devs left to get it going? Sorry...I'm all geeked up for the announcement tonight. Plus, I'm not due for an upgrade until March...eek!

Man i know you can get it to work You done some pretty amazing stuff on here and if you cant maybe you can get Jaybob to help you or something
with the navigation buttons at the bottom, it might be a little cramped. sure we can change the dpi to like 120 but my phone lags when i try to make everything smaller and fit more on the screen.
Or if the navigation buttons can be removed... who knows. Of course even cramped ICS would be great on our Heroes.
Im almost positive we will get some sort of port of ICS. Ever since froyo the companies have been saying that the hero simply can not handel the new updates because of minimal system requirements. However I red an article with a Q&A about ICS, and one of the questions was what are the minimal system requirements for ICS? The anser was none that i can think of right now. ICS is meant to bring Android tablets and phones toghether in developmental terms. Google is trying to unify android, rather than have phones rounning one type of android and tablets another. It has even been said that ICS will be available for older devices of up to one year old or so. But in closeing im prety optimistic about a port for the Hero, and probably sooner than latter.
Considering that our devs got the source now I'm sure were gona see ICS can't wait
Sent from my HERO200 using XDA App
I downloaded the beta version of ICS for hero to see how it looks and feels it"s a little buggy it has some things that need to be worked out like not being able to pair with bluetooth device and bluetooth turning off completely and not being able to turn it back on again... Also when trying to turn on wifi hotspot the phone just hangs there saying turning on wifi screen I let it run for 5 minutes before I rebooted my phone... This rom is in early stages of devoplement and if and when the stuff that isn't working gets fixed I see this as my next rom of choice... Nice work jaybob on a job will done and a million thanks to you...

Thats the problem with battery technology. It hasnt advanced at all. The only way to make a battery with more power is to increase its size. The best battery life I have ever had is with my current device, the note 2. Its huge and powerful but because its so big they can put a large battery in it. Smaller devices how ever will always be stuck with small batteries. I wish that someone would say "ok phones are extremely powerful, now maybe we should look into making batteries able to hold more juice without making them larger. "

I have just received a vivo, and I would like to develop for it. The phone's specs state that vivo is msm8255, but when I look into the device tree of the phone, the ROMs use msm7x30 platform. Can someone please explain this to me?
Also, does anyone know the name of chips in vivo. This is a very hard thing to find. For example, the bluetooth is BCM4329.
If no one has this information then it is alright, but I would like to my first question answered.

You should PM Szeszo on this stuff. He is our main developer and has been pretty much our only developer for almost half a year now. He knows this device inside out
100% same chipset as the 7x30 devices, our 8255 is essentially an overclocked 7x30 like on desire z
That's why desire z has same chipset as us
Bcm 4329 is WiFi too, but bcmdhd is used for AOSP and sense 4 which is ported from One V or latest prima
Wikipedia has some good information

Why is it so important? As poondog said, our CPU just an msm7x30 on higher clock. But we have that CPU's board name, why? Qualcomm knows... Like the MSM8225 and MSM8625Q (dual and quad-core Cortex-A5 CPUs) has msm7x27a board names. Why? Qualcomm knows...

This is off topic, but...
Yes, Adelaide is a boring city. Nothing here to look at (can only look at myself in the mirror)
But what I do like about Adelaide is that it is a planned city; it is very hard to get lost here (even if someone tells you to get lost). When I went to Sydney, I got lost, because the roads aren't straight forward. I've also visited Melbourne, but I didn't like it, because the city there is too tight; the roads are very small, and the trams on the road take up too much space. But Melbourne kind of reminds me of my home country (Pakistan).
By the way, I do know somewhat about kernel development. I have tried to port a 3.4 kernel to a previous device, and I got the kernel to boot, but I coudn't get the ROM to boot. The phone died really quickly and now I cannot fully port the 3.4 kernel to it anymore, however someone else with the same device has already ported it, and I know how he did it. So, I am going to try it with vivo. But, I won't gurantee success.

Yeah haha fair enough it's boring
@szezso has tried but there are like no similar devices with a working 3.4.Y kernel so it's a bit hard.. working with like only one similar 3.4.Y device haha
