Why does the SW Upgrade show "Cannot open binary file"? - Galaxy Tab Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hello there, I tried restoring my sprint galaxy tab using SW upgrade and i can't just figure out why it shows this below:

could be a windows error?

hey
do you have a solution to this "windows's error"?

+1
I've been having the same problem on both Win& 64bit and 32bit machines. After several tries and searching around the forums I even tried unzipping the "SPH-P100.EA24.SECURE.REV07-FULL_CL871413.tar.md5" file in the binary folder before using the GUI again but it still doesn't work. Installing via heimdall has been a no go as well. I don't know how to use Odin, so I haven't tried that.
I'm having major issues getting my camera and gps back after playing with the CDMA Honeycomb 2.5 build and it would be nice if I could get this to work. My Titanium backups aren't fixing the issue either.
I bought this as a toy (the W00t sale) to learn about android and I am definitely getting schooled.

Same issue
I'm getting the same error. It looks like the program can't find the binary file that comes with the download. Does it have to be in a specific directory? I've tried c:\, c:\Program Files, c:\Program Files (x86) and my desktop.
Anybody figured this out yet?

I ended up flashing with the Odin version from this post. The zip includes a text file with instructions on how to use Odin.
It worked for me and fixed my camera problem.

Corrupt zip files when downloading via Pocket IE

First of all, let me say this is a great forum -- keep up the good work!
Now for the question - It seems that whenever I try to download a zip file using my Tilt, it always comes back as corrupt, even though the download appears to complete successfully. Opening the file with the built in zip program gives an error message similar to "central directory was not found". Copying the file to my PC also yields a similar 'corrupt' error. If I download the file using my computer, there doesn't appear to be any issue.
I've noticed this on multiple download attempts from different locations, but I had chalked it up as just a problem with the zip file itself on the site.
Is there some cache tweak or something I'm missing here? I'm using KaiserTweak now with recommended settings, though this is a recent addition...I didn't install it until after I noticed these issues.
Any help would be appreciated.
Thanks,
Jaceson
I noticed this problem starting a few weeks back while I was using my 8525. It was also giving my an error for zip files using WinRar as well. When I tried downloading the same file on my PC everything worked fine.
I thought maybe you just couldn't unzip files with .Cabs in them on a PPC??? But it could be an issue with PIE.
Coincidence?
I wonder if it's a coincidence that we're both in Dallas. Dallas is a big place though...that couldn't possibly be what's going on here. Right?
Just thought I'd check in on this thread again. Any ideas guys?
If you have WinRaR installed go to Winrar settings and make sure that you have .zip files associated to the WinRAR application. This fixed my problem.
You can also go to Dutty's Cab collection sticky and download the MS Office cab collection I believe this has WinZip included.
I have the same problem on my kaiser no problems for a month then all of a sudden I can't download zips!?! the only thing I can think of is that I switched to att when I was with tmobile I had no problems. I don't have winzip but I do have pocketrar and changing the settings haven't helped me
im on att with medianet my email wasn't working either. I changed a few settings and now everything works fine so let me know if ur still having problems
i was having the same problem also. i thought it was an issue with the zip software on the tilt. so i downloaded pocketrar and use that now. everything works and i can download and extract zips no problem. i'd recommend pocketrar over the tilt zip program anyway, so give it a try.
Any solutions found
All, I have this very problem. Winrar doesn't make a diference either. The odd thing is that this only happens with zip files, cab files install fine. Furthermore the zips work fine if downloaded by Opera.

Hi,
I think you can try to recover the corrupt file, you may try Advanced Zip Repair at http://www.datanumen.com/azr/ This tool is rather useful in salvaging damaged Zip files. Hope this is useful.

I have the same problem, and have narrowed it down a bit. Same zip file from the same website will work if I'm connect through WiFi, but not a cell link (3G). No other changes made but the connection type (didn't even close pie). Still trying to get ahold of tech support at AT&T.
Just got off the phone with Tech support. They told me I can't download zip files with a cell link (edge or 3g) because of file size, It has to be done by WiFi.
I'm thinking that's bs.. I've downloaded uncompressed files bigger than that. trying to get ahold of someone else in Tech support.

Problems installing TomTom 5 with WM6.5

Hi
I posted this in another board but didn't get an answer so I'll try again here (with more details).
I've tried to install TT5 on my Himilaya with esfane's German version WM6.5. After finally finding threads from people with the same problem I tried the solutions there but with no luck. What I've tried so far:
If I try to install the app using the .cab file it gets all the way to the end but then says installtion failed. I still get the today plug-in but it only beeps at me. The Navigator folder is empty.
I extracted the .cab on my PC, renamed the files according to the .ini and copied them to the folder on my PPC - no luck. The .exe just gives an error messge "failed to start". I'm assuming all of the registry entries are missing.
That brings me to the end of what I can do. I know the .cab install works with WM6.1, which is the solution in the wiki but it doesn't work on my device.
I don't want to upgrade because that means buying the software again.
HELP!!!!
Thanks in advance.

http://support.microsoft.com/kb/944938?sd=zune
That link doesnt give me much as far as an answer on how to fix this..
im ready to put this thing back in teh box and burn it.

if it's not installing by double click, then press right mouse button on zune intaller file and you'll find "unpack" or smth like that there. Unpack it and intall, it worked for me when i had those problems

Good thought, what version of windows?
No unpack option for me.. just the basics, tried to run it in admin mode, same problem.
Are you using the light Zune install file or the full Zune installation file? Most installation problems can be resolved by using the full installation file mentioned on that Microsoft KB article you linked.

I know I've had issues with some of the older versions of Zune, and now I just always download the full installations and I haven't run into such errors in years.

Yes I have used that flie, once i run it it just tells me patch has been installed,
so then I retry the regular file and still get error, going to try and see if I can unpack the file as others have suggested.
Thank you for the replies.
Why don't you call Zune support.......they read all of hte XDA suggestions...and have a few of their own !!! You can get the support number, http://zune.net/support

[Q] Unrooting Troubles!!

I have been trying to unroot my nook color because I am unable to log into my Google account so I can't access the Market (can't establish a reliable connection to Google server). I guess I kind of screwed it up when trying to update from 1.0.0 to 1.1.0. Not sure what's going on there. I've tried to unroot by interrupting the boot 8 times along with all the other methods (ADB Shell is beyond me). When I interrupt the root, on about the 8th time it automatically boots into the clockwork recovery and I can't unroot from there. Any solutions to either of my problems would be greatly appreciated. Currently still on 1.0.0.
Try this: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=931720
If it doesn't work, let me know. I have a more involved method. The above didn't work for me for some reason but worked for lots of other folks.
I'm having a hard time turning the clockwork_1gb-0.4.tar.gz file into a .img file. I've tried it with winimage and win32diskimager and I can't get the programs to recognize the file.
Did you extract it first? If you have, try getting a linux live cd and using dd, winimage doesnt always work.
I'm kind of a noob to all this stuff and I don't know how to extract this type of file. Is there any way you could post the .img file?
If you just click on the file, it should extract. Or maybe right click on it. Sorry, I'm on a mac so don't know the exact Windows menu structure.
Thanks for the help. I was able to resolve this issue by installing the CWR remover.

[Q] Copying files FROM cappy

When I am trying to copy files back from my Captivate to my desktop, Windows is very slow to start the copy, and when it does, gives me "Error 0x8007045D: The request could not be performed because of an I/O device error." I have tried re-installing the x64 drivers to no avail, and Google queries only refer to defective external HDDs, which I'm hoping isn't the case. CHKDSK has been run, also to no avail.
Why will my Captivate not allow me to copy files back to my desktop, and what must be done to rectify this?
EDIT: This issue seems to only affect files that were copied to the phone in a previous session. Copying a file to, and then immediately from the device works fine (probably because the file hasn't actually been written to disk...)
