In need of help again, very sorry.
using froyo 2.2 on an ATT vers Nexus One.
Problem:
So with using the default browser (mozilla?), as well as Dolphin HD browser...there are a few important sites I cannot load (no matter what) via 3g or 2G data.
It tries to load at first but just quickly stops leaving me at a blank page.
However, if i switch to my wi-fi network, these same problem pages will load without issue. Not a problem.
But switch back to mobile data 2G or 3G...these sites will not load.
All other websites I visit (so far) load fine either wifi or 3g/2g, it's just some specific ones. This is a constant and consistent problem with specific websites.
The sites are
- hotmail
- ebay mobile
* but I'm sure I'd find others.
So it's strange...perhaps this is best asked in the dev section?
I have no idea what to search on this problem (here or google).
It's as if something is out of whack at the browser end, like it's reading some form data that I could fix/edit/delete and resolve this problem. Or perhaps it's some security bug/issue...
Either way, I need to get this fixed so I can check hotmail if I need to while on the road, ....problem is I don't know where or what to do here for a fix. Any suggestions?
Certain config file, or the like I can edit or del for a fix?
I've DEL the cache, form data, cookies, etc...everything. No fix.
Can the default browser on the nexus one be uninstalled/reinstalled?
I know I can uninstall/reinstall Dolphin HD, I'll try that.
I also like the default browser though...any way this can be fixed?
man, this problem is getting worse...and it's happening in other browsers too.
dolphin and opera.
it's as if there's a glitch that occurs if you once viewed a site via wifi...then when using 3G it has hang ups (blank load screen).
Is there anyone who might have an answer here?
Can the built in browser be reinstalled (froyo 2.2) to try and fix?
Works fine for me.
?
I'm sure it does, and that's great. Most pages load fine too here...but...
As mentioned it seems to be more of an odd or rare "glitch" here...like something that goes awry under special circumstances (won't load a certain page under 3g/2g data - but will load same page using my wifi).
Now it's happening with facebook in default browser and dolphin. Seems to be happening due to usage at home (wifi)...then accessing same via 3G/2G (not at home). Some hiccup...causing a no load scenario with cell data (no problems via wifi though).
Can we please only reply if this is something you also encountered or may know what's going on here?
I'm no expert but the sites you described seem to be https sites, a secured version of normal webpages. And you're trying to acces those sites through an unsecured data connection 3G/2G.
So I don't know exactly what https does but I assume it won't allow you to send/receive your data over an unencrypted network.
But as for your hotmail problem, you can configure your stock e-mail app to receive your hotmails.
This definitely is the wrong section to post this, you might get a lot of flack for posting here!
Try installing a new rom, your issues are not normal. Try Enom's newest -- it has a stable kernel, and offers perhaps an updated apn file. Short of that, you need to call your cellphone provider, and find out the apn settings from them (double check), and/or why they are restricting access...
I understand your frustration with not getting a response in the Q&A section, but the dev section is for devs and testers. Maybe look at what distribution of froyo you are running (cyanogen? enom? kang-o-rama? leo?) and post in their respective threads. and if this is just a stock updated froyo, you definitely need to call your cellphone provider.
Good luck!
Also, note the rules: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=614062
verify your APN settings. Same thing happened to me & proper APN settings fixed it.
Not sure the proper ones for AT&T, however.
edit: make sure to clear anything that ought to be cleared -- an asterisk isn't the same as cleared
Delete your Proxy IP and Port under APN settings and try to reload the page.
As mentioned above, 1) this is wrong section, 2) if you're on a custom ROM - try another ROM, and if you're on stock FRF91 or any custom ROM does the same - then it's definitely a problem with your cellular provider and/or your APN settings.
It may pay to check that it's not your carrier.
Can you access those sites with your SIM in another phone?
Merged threads ... please do not create duplicate threads as it clutters up the forum and invites flamming/trolling responses.
Regards,
OK, this took a lot of trial and error, some bravery on my part, and SEVERAL calls to AT&T, but I finally got it working!* I am not a Dev anywhere CLOSE to the likes of DG, but I do have extensive knowledge of hacking mobile devices in general, GSM networks, CS/PS infrastructure, and industry experience from the NOC side of several MSOs (aka ISPs), so I tackled this problem from a "what would I implement if I were AT&T and wanted to force a tethering package on subscribers?" Point of view, and worked backwards from there.
Many have tried the solution already posted, and I give credit to the poster of that original "fix" while respectfully pointing out that using this "fix" accomplished AT&T deleting my data package twice, and provisioning a tethering plan automatically once, all automatically done by the system. This was not the solution I was looking for.
So, without further introductions/banter on my part, here is the step-by-step... I will try to keep explanations to a minimum for now, if they are asked for I will put them in post #2.
*Prerequisites: ROOT
*Tools required: Root Explorer, SQLite Editor (both available in market, yes they are paid apps but they are WORTH EVERY PENNY!)
----note: this can also be accomplished using adb and a sqlite database editor on your pc, but requires many, many more steps, and won't work after reboot unless you have a working busybox and can successfully chown/chmod the .db file after you copy it back to the device, and even then I still had trouble with it after reboot, so... I had success with these paid apps, so I'm writing the tutorial assuming you have them. If there is enough demand I'll write an alternate tutorial on how to do this using free tools.
*******
++++++++++++ Edited, now shorter! Thanks to all for testing these settings, the new steps are confirmed working!
*(if you used the steps prior to my editing them, you're good, your settings will work fine, the changes reflect a different, shorter way to do this)
1) Create a NEW access point setting using the following settings: (SETTINGS>WIRELESS AND NETWORKS>MOBILE NETWORKS>ACCESS POINT NAMES> {press menu} NEW APN
Name: whatever you like here, I use att
APN: wap.cingular
Proxy:
Port:
Username:
Password:
Server:
MMSC: http://mmsc.cingular.com
MMS Proxy: wireless.cingular.com
MMS Port: 80
MCC: 310
MNC: 410
Authentication Type:
APN Type: default,agps,fota,supl,fota,tether,mms
(all settings I left blank, leave blank, make sure you press menu, save to save)</br>
2) Enable Airplane Mode
(hold power button for three seconds, select Airplane Mode)
3) Open Root Explorer
4) Navigate to: /data/data/com.android.providers.telephony/databases/
5) Click on "telephony.db"** (this should open the db using SQLite Editor)
6) Select "carriers"
7) You should see a long list of APN settings for various carriers, the ones you are interested in are rows 4, 6, and 7. Scroll ALL THE WAY TO THE RIGHT and the last column should be labeled "preloaded." You will notice that each is labeled "true" press and hold the word "true" in row 4 and select "Edit Field" from the pop up menu. Change the "true" to "false" and click "Save". Repeat this step for rows 6 and 7.
7b) Edit the type field of row 6. Right now the field says "tether". Change it so that it says "default, agps, fota, supl, fota, tether"
7c) Change the APN field in row 6 from BROADBAND to wap.cingular
8) Press back twice to close the SQLite editor and you should be back in Root Explorer. Close Root Explorer.
9) Disable Airplane Mode
10) Go back to the list of APNs you saw in step 1. You should see that the "locked padlock" is now unlocked on the preloaded APNs named AT&T US, AT&T US HSDPA, and AT&T TETHER. You now need to edit the one labeled AT&T TETHER. Change the following settings:
APN: wap.cingular
Proxy:
Proxy port:
APN type:
Press menu, save.
11) Select the radio button for the APN you created in step one. AT&T Tether.
12) Reboot phone.
13) Enjoy! Mobile Hotspot should now work first time no issues!
Note: (Due to some pre-existing (bug?) in the software, you do need to have wifi turned on BEFORE you enable Mobile Hotspot for it to set up properly. If you forget it will hang until you enable wifi.)

After staying up all night to figure this out, I have confirmed that using the Webtop without dock MOD combined with mine you CAN use webtop with your 3G/H+ connection!!! No wifi required!
Steps to make this work:
1) Connect Webtop
2) Using the window that allows you to control the regular phone interface, navigate to the ACCESS POINT NAMES menu described in step 1 above.
3) Select the radio button next to "AT&T Tethering"
Done! Open firefox and enjoy!
Credits to Fenny, author of the MOD to enable Webtop without dock!
Also designgears, author of Adeo, which is necessary to run aforesaid MOD!
And to t0dbld, who contributed significantly and led the discussion that resulted in said MOD.

It should, though I personally own neither, and therefore have not tested that particular functionality. There is no way that I am aware of that AT&T SHOULD be able to tell any difference between traffic from tethered devices and traffic from the device itself, so unless they are packet sniffing (illegal for ISPs, somewhat hazy regulation on wireless service providers, but would be a BIG shock to me if they were) or there is something in the actual webtop ubuntu software that would inform AT&T that webtop is being used somehow (also HIGHLY unlikely, as it would be a HUGE invasion of privacy) the answer is YES!
PLEASE if you have access to either of these $$$$$ expensive docks if you wouldn't mind test this for me and report back to confirm that indeed it does allow use without wifi.

ah crap, i accidentally deleted the ATT Tether profile, can you give me the settings please?
Thanks!
or even better, attach the original sq file?
I hate that you are probably on final steps, but... You cannot re-create the AT&T Tethering profile manually, as this will break the functionality of the script that Mobile hotspot uses to "Verify" that you have a tethering plan...
Please go to your APN list, and press MENU>Restore Default Settings
Then (sorry) start over from step 1

ahh didnt see that, thanks!
I can confirm that this works great - you no longer get stuck at "setting up data link" (so no more changing APNs to fix that).
Although, I tried the newly found webtop hack which allows you to just connect the HDMI cable to a TV and run webtop - it does not work without wifi. If you try turning off wifi and use 3g, it says "communicating with ATT to see if webtop something something" and nothing loads.

Good work richhed!
Wifi hotspot works, but it does not seem to work with the hd dock over 3g only with wifi. There must be another check somewhere along the way. Too bad, hopefully we canfigure it out soon though.
I'm using the Atrix in Australia on the 3/Vodafone network, is there a way I can get it to work?

great find on unlocking there crap !! btw if you delete the apn type or the apn all together for the tethering etc you wont have to do the wifi on off thing, you have to do that because sometimes its still defaulting to the apn that is strictly tethering

Yes it does , i would check your settings again , jsut because the blue tethering active comes up does not mean it is tethering an active connection, recheck your settings and try again, working fine here

The wifi hotspot works for my ipad.
I'll check again, but for me when I start up firefox on the hd dock it hangs on: checking att for plan....

Nice job! This hack is based on the same principle as the TBH NVRAM tether hack that we released for Droid devices except yours is done by changing the APN in the system and ours is done by changing the Tethered NAI(Network Access Identifier) strings in the NVM because that is where the carrier data authentication components are actually stored in CDMA phones. With GSM all of that is stored in the SIM card itself and is not accessible in the NVM.
The change does functionally the same thing, that being making all data use appear to the network as internal data rather than flagged as an externally tethered device.
Congratulations!
uhm I tried this, when i launch with internal viewer, i cannot edit. but when i try to launch with the db editor, it wont open cuz it says no network connect (since we turned on airplane mode)
EDIT: nvm I needed to download the editor from the market since I didnt have one installed.
Can we delete all of the other APN settings without ill-effect?

ikenley,
I am less familiar with your network, and I'll also need more information:
1) Are you using a US, AT&T branded Atrix?
2) What are the DEFAULT, working APN(s) for 3/Vodafone "smartphone" data plans?
3) Do these APN(s) require login credentials, and
4) Do they proxy their smartphone data plan
Unfortunately, if the answer to #4 is yes, then the answer is no, it (probably) won't work. Also, if they require a login, it depends on the type.

LOL, I was hoping that you wouldn't say that
Every time I personally tried I couldn't get it to stick on reboot, I think I may have been doing something wrong with the chown or something. Give me a few days I'll keep at it ;-)
BTW, if you have a basic knowledge of adb, and bash or busybox or any linux based command line terminal, basically you follow all steps the same except when you are editing the .db you'll need to copy that file to the sdcard, then to your pc, then edit it, then copy it back to sdcard, then back to /data/data/com.android.provider.telephony/databases/ and THEN you have to use adb shell to chown/chmod the file to the proper settings. I think it may be that the group ownership is changed to sdcard when you move the file... Anyway I'll work on it.

Hi, as the title of the thread says I am trying to figure out how to edit certain settings via build.prop, rather than ##PROGRAM.
This is because of two things: I flashed my bionic to page plus, using the stock rom, then I installed Carbon ROM in slot1. To make 3G operate correctly, you have to change certain settings using ##PROGRAM. The stock rom works great after using the program menu. Unfortunately, the Carbon Rom, although fantastic, does not have this menu.
One of the settings is to change Sim type to 3G. The other is to set lte bppanic to disable. Then disable class 1 and class 2 apns.
If anyone knows how to do this, I would be thrilled, as would other Page Plus users, I imagine. Thanks.
Bump
This may be off by a long shot, but relating to radios..

typed on my Bionic
Hi, I think that is the right direction. However, so far I cannot find out how to change sim type to 3g or set lte bppanic to disable using a database.
There are similar "name" inputs there, like network mode, etc, but nothing indicating those exact settings. I wonder if I find the settings under the stock rom, can i import them into carbon? Or are they motorola-rom-specific?
I think that these are actually important questions for flashed users, and we will see this becoming more and more of an issue as 3G phones become obsolete, and the only way for a Page Plus or other Verizon MVNO user to have a workable smartphone is to flash a 4G one,
On the Bionic (and I imagine on other models), the only option for now will be the stock rom; any rom without access to the ##PROGRAM menu will be left short as far as advanced network settings goes. Of course, I think this might vary depending on how you flashed in the first place. I used a free tutorial that was quite simple.

I honestly couldn't input much on this, as I've never had to dabble with this area ( well just once, quite a long time ago), but I'd imagine you could check out the data bases ( maybe take a "snapshot" or copy/download it) from a stock rom, make your changes using that ##program menu, then compare the new/changed database to the prior one.
That would be a quick way to detect if any values are being affected there, and where. Then you may as well check if those values exist on other roms, and try them out. Couldn't hurt, with safestrap/recovery backups and all.

I believe that you should check out the setup for page plus on howard forums. It goes thru the changes to make the bionic 3g and turn off 4g completely. But the links to the apps and basic principles should still apply. Good luck, if you can't find it let me know. I'll send you a link.
Cruzin' tha Galaxy SIII via Obsessed Rom / "INAPPROPRIATE" Kernel
I am learning how to live without root.
I've installed Adblock Plus and use the following steps to create a new APN
1. Go to "more.." in settings for wireless
2. Go to "mobile networks"
3. Go to "Access Point Names"
4. Go into the current enabled one (AT&T PHONE) and write down all settings
5. Create a new one, copying everything and set up localhost:2020 as proxy
6. Select the new APN
From browser, it appears to block the ads. Quick test on some applications also seem to suggest this is working.
Does anyone know if there is any problem with this scheme?
Thanks
Thanks for the detailed instructions!
I just setup and it also seems to be working for me too.
Did you ever find any issues with your approach?
With Vzw there is no way to create an APN.
Worked great on T-Mobile. Thanks!
Does not seem to work for me, running Sony Xperia E3 D2203 on KitKat 4.4.2
Adguard does! But needs improvement on my D Maxx.

Anyone know of a bug tracker for the ZTE Axon?
I have seen quite a few bugs so far and am wondering how to provide feedback. Off the top of my head some bugs I have seen:
- Google fit can't count steps correctly on the ZTE Axon, unlike on my Nexus 5. I may walk for a couple of hours and only see a few minutes show up on Google Fit. I **hope** this is a software problem.
- Sometimes widgets don't work (I have weather underground, fitbit and google fit on my main screen) forcing me to do a restart. I haven't seen that in a week or so though.
- Take some photos with HDR on and some photos with HDR off before going back and looking at the photos. The pictures with HDR off sometimes are lost.
Don't know of one but this is as good a place as any to begin listing them. As far as notifying ZTE, their CS is decent, maybe send list through them.
Another potential problem - I am having a lot of issues trying to send/receive pictures over MMS/SMS (I haven't been able to successfully send or receive a picture yet). Anyone else have problems?
Make sure you select your mobile carrier/provider correctly. A lot of providers have unusual rules when it comes to picture/MMS messaging. I use Handscent (now Next SMS?)and you can select the provider in the app to make sure you are following the rules correctly on size etc.
Understood. But I have never ever used anything other than unlocked phones with T-Mobile and it "just works" without me having to mess with anything. There is something wrong happening here.
I have two other Nexus 5s in my household and checked their APN settings:
- One is running 4.4.4 and an older version of Hangouts. I have verified that MMS works on this phone. I went into the Hangouts configuration and I saw that it had the APN just for MMS pointing to a MetroPCS APN which was not configured on my phone. The default APN configuration fast.t-mobile.com is identical to the one that is configured on my ZTE Axon (the ZTE Axon has only one APN configured).
- The other is running the latest 5.1.1 (the SIM is relatively new - this is my old phone which I installed clean for a relative) and the latest version of Hangouts. I checked Hangouts configuration - the option to choose a different APN just for MMS is gone...but MMS is still working on this phone. It also has the MetroPCS APN configured in the APN list but is not selected anywhere.
So I tried to add the MetroPCS APN configuration to my ZTE Axon and "Saved" it. Save was successful but the MetroPCS APN did not appear in the list. I partially re-added the MetroPCS APN and I saw the MetroPCS APN in my APN list. I completed the MetroPCS APN configuration and it disappeared again!
Jonathan - Do you have MMS working on the ZTE Axon with T-Mobile? This looks very broken to me.

More information - it screws up once I try and set the "MVNO type" and "MVNO value" which is set for the MetroPCS APN on both Nexus 5s (MVNO type - GID, MVNO value - 6D). If I set the MVNO type to GID and leave the MVNO value as the default it blows away my default T-Mobile APN when I save. If I set the MVNO value to 6D as well, the MetroPCS APN disappears on the save.
EDIT: Also double-checked my default APN settings against what T-Mobile suggests:
https://support.t-mobile.com/docs/DOC-2090
The fast.t-mobile.com configuration provided by the SIM (and shown in the Axon) is identical to this.

The support document is correct and my APN is set the same.
However, I am talking the messaging client. Most MMS messages have a limit set by the provider. If I'm correct T-mobile is 1MB. You have to set that limit in the messaging program or app. If you don't, the message just gets blocked by the provider. Have you tried sending a picture message of something that you know the size of? Like a 30KB jpg or something. If that gets through and others don't that's your issue. The only reason why I say this, is that I had the same issue when I got my OPO. It was the whole reason I started using Handscent in the first place, because you can choose what network you are on and it will re-size pics appropriately.
Found My MMS Problem
I went outside my house and tried to resend (and try to re-receive) my MMS messages. MMS worked!
Came back inside and it stopped working. Turned wifi off while inside and it worked again!
Narrowed the problem to the adblock plus wifi proxy on my phone (as I don't have the phone rooted yet I can't use AdAway - ugh). Once I turned that off MMS worked while wifi was on.
Even though I have worked in telecom in the past, I did learn something here - I thought MMS messages came in over the mobile network...but that does not appear to be true. They must be retrieved from the internet (whether it be 3G/LTE or wifi). It now makes sense that the APN defines a MMS URL. I guess the mobile network (probably via SMS) provides a key to look up the MMS at that URL.
Still doesn't explain the wacky disappearing MetroPCS APN...but that is not as big an issue for me now since I can get MMS to work.
I'm still having problems with sending and receiving MMS the messaging ap crashes every time I try to send one or try download one that was sent to me. I have tried everything I can think of to fix it. Nothing.

What happens when a message is sent to you? In Hangouts if it receives the message from the mobile network but can't get the MMS, it tells you there is a message waiting (the ZTE Messaging app displays nothing).
Agreed with gflash2015, need more detail. All my mms come through no problem.

Well today I got a software update from zte and it fixed this problem.
Not sure if it's a bug or intended but music services, such as Tidal, that provide hi-fi streaming music do not work on the hi-fi setting. Music streams fine on the other settings but not on hi-fi. Seems that this was overlooked. Hopefully an update can resolve.
I am having a problem with the camera on my Axon Pro. I guess this would be considered a bug. It seems almost all the pictures I take have a skin image softening effect to them. Outdoors, with daylight, indoors even in a bright room, etc. No matter what effects I try changing, it seems just about every image I take has a softening effect to it. When you view the image in the gallery and zoom in, you can see everything looks softened or blurred. Not sharp and detailed. I have tried various other camera apps in the Google Play store, and it seems that this softening effect is just built in to the base camera firmware or something, because it happens with every camera app I try. Google Camera, Camera FV-5, Camera MX, etc.
The only time it doesn't apply the softening effect is when you are close to something with the flash on, but even then, it still comes out softened sometimes. I took a picture of my cat from about a 2 feet away, with the flash on, and it came out super clear and detailed. I was using Camera FV-5. But when I try taking pictures outside, in my backyard or wherever, or in any other situation, it applies that image/skin softening like effect. Very VERY annoying.
It's not as noticeable when you just view the picture zoomed out all the way, but if you pinch to zoom you can see that effect I'm talking about. I hope it's something that can be fixed somehow... Otherwise I might have to sell my phone and get the Samsung Galaxy S6. I like everything else about the Axon Pro, especially the audio/music quality, but I'm also a photography guy and based on reviews I read, I expected the quality to be pretty good. I didn't see anything about a softening effect in any reviews I watched/read.
So anyone else experience this? Can this be turned off somehow and I just am blind and don't see the setting? Or is this something ZTE would have to fix with an update? Or is it not fixable at all?
Are you on the bokeh setting?
No, not in the Bokeh mode. I did try that, and that is a nice feature to have.. I tried all different settings though, auto mode, and manual mode. For some reason the pictures I take all seem to have this softening effect applied to them. It's strange.
I don't know, maybe I'm just expecting more out of the 13mp camera than it's capable of... But then why did my Sony Xperia ZL from a few years ago, which also has a 13mp camera, not have this softening effect?
Trouble with Music Player
My Axon is just 3 days old. There is this annoying problem with its music playback, it just randomly skip last part of the songs. like it wont play last 4-5 seconds. It is there for mp3 and FLAC files. These same files plays just fine on my nexus 5 and ipod and PC. Phone is just new, no settings changed yet. Installed Play Music and tested with different sets of files.
I have contacted ZTE support. They tried to clear the cache and test in safe mode and it still continue to behave the same. So they are replacing the device.

Isn't there a setting mentioning something about fade? I'd check myself but I've parked the Axon while I test drive a Z5.

Couldnt find any except for a setting in music player which hide audio less than 60 seconds, it is already disabled. No specific setting for fade.
