In need of help again, very sorry.
using froyo 2.2 on an ATT vers Nexus One.
Problem:
So with using the default browser (mozilla?), as well as Dolphin HD browser...there are a few important sites I cannot load (no matter what) via 3g or 2G data.
It tries to load at first but just quickly stops leaving me at a blank page.
However, if i switch to my wi-fi network, these same problem pages will load without issue. Not a problem.
But switch back to mobile data 2G or 3G...these sites will not load.
All other websites I visit (so far) load fine either wifi or 3g/2g, it's just some specific ones. This is a constant and consistent problem with specific websites.
The sites are
- hotmail
- ebay mobile
* but I'm sure I'd find others.
So it's strange...perhaps this is best asked in the dev section?
I have no idea what to search on this problem (here or google).
It's as if something is out of whack at the browser end, like it's reading some form data that I could fix/edit/delete and resolve this problem. Or perhaps it's some security bug/issue...
Either way, I need to get this fixed so I can check hotmail if I need to while on the road, ....problem is I don't know where or what to do here for a fix. Any suggestions?
Certain config file, or the like I can edit or del for a fix?
I've DEL the cache, form data, cookies, etc...everything. No fix.
Can the default browser on the nexus one be uninstalled/reinstalled?
I know I can uninstall/reinstall Dolphin HD, I'll try that.
I also like the default browser though...any way this can be fixed?
man, this problem is getting worse...and it's happening in other browsers too.
dolphin and opera.
it's as if there's a glitch that occurs if you once viewed a site via wifi...then when using 3G it has hang ups (blank load screen).
Is there anyone who might have an answer here?
Can the built in browser be reinstalled (froyo 2.2) to try and fix?
Works fine for me.
?
I'm sure it does, and that's great. Most pages load fine too here...but...
As mentioned it seems to be more of an odd or rare "glitch" here...like something that goes awry under special circumstances (won't load a certain page under 3g/2g data - but will load same page using my wifi).
Now it's happening with facebook in default browser and dolphin. Seems to be happening due to usage at home (wifi)...then accessing same via 3G/2G (not at home). Some hiccup...causing a no load scenario with cell data (no problems via wifi though).
Can we please only reply if this is something you also encountered or may know what's going on here?
I'm no expert but the sites you described seem to be https sites, a secured version of normal webpages. And you're trying to acces those sites through an unsecured data connection 3G/2G.
So I don't know exactly what https does but I assume it won't allow you to send/receive your data over an unencrypted network.
But as for your hotmail problem, you can configure your stock e-mail app to receive your hotmails.
This definitely is the wrong section to post this, you might get a lot of flack for posting here!
Try installing a new rom, your issues are not normal. Try Enom's newest -- it has a stable kernel, and offers perhaps an updated apn file. Short of that, you need to call your cellphone provider, and find out the apn settings from them (double check), and/or why they are restricting access...
I understand your frustration with not getting a response in the Q&A section, but the dev section is for devs and testers. Maybe look at what distribution of froyo you are running (cyanogen? enom? kang-o-rama? leo?) and post in their respective threads. and if this is just a stock updated froyo, you definitely need to call your cellphone provider.
Good luck!
Also, note the rules: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=614062
verify your APN settings. Same thing happened to me & proper APN settings fixed it.
Not sure the proper ones for AT&T, however.
edit: make sure to clear anything that ought to be cleared -- an asterisk isn't the same as cleared
Delete your Proxy IP and Port under APN settings and try to reload the page.
As mentioned above, 1) this is wrong section, 2) if you're on a custom ROM - try another ROM, and if you're on stock FRF91 or any custom ROM does the same - then it's definitely a problem with your cellular provider and/or your APN settings.
It may pay to check that it's not your carrier.
Can you access those sites with your SIM in another phone?
Merged threads ... please do not create duplicate threads as it clutters up the forum and invites flamming/trolling responses.

Hi all.
Got my SGS a couple of weeks ago, and (almost) all is great.
I spend most of my time inside the university (I live on campus) and all of the web traffic here passes through a proxy server. Problem is - some of the apps (including the Market) just can't see the connection.
I have (of course) the right Advanced Network Settings (proxy server and port), and this sorts out some of the apps (like the default browser and gmail app), but the market is unreachable, and FB app (for example) can't access the net as well.
Some more data:
I'm running 2.1.
There is no problem to access these sites using a desktop/laptop computer.
I don't use 3G, relying only on WiFi.
Proxy server has no authentication.
Everything works perfectly whenever I leave campus.
Is there anything I can do?
Would this issue be resolved in the (hopefully) forthcoming 2.2 upgrade?
Thanks!
Hey do you have to log in to go online. At my past college and my current uni all android phones where you had to log in via the browser didn't work. However my friend with a Desire with 2.2 can log in, this maybe a wild guess but maybe the updated browser allows for the log in procedures to work, im not sure what its written in, javascript, php, asp no idea but that's my guess> Ive got the same problem if you get it to work let me know and if you know someone with froyo can you ask them to try or maybe its just with newer HTC phones.
Thanks for the reply.
I don't need to log in, there's no authentication, and still there's no access.
It feels like a dodgy implementation of the proxy settings in Android, and I really hope they fix it in 2.2, because it makes my phone really crippled.
Yer I really hope so to on our network their is no pass to access
its completely open but you have to log in via the browser
A quick update.
Just installed a localized (hebrew) version of Froyo (JHJP4 if it interests someone).
I can't comment on anything else at the moment, but the proxy problems are NOT solved. Still can't access the market...
Alright so I'm running Honeycomb running off sd. I ran the automated scripts in adb to add market and gapps. Whenever I try to open market or gmail I have to add an account. I try to add my account and it comes up an error saying I dont have a data connection like I'm trying to use a phone... Any advice?
Bump because I'm desperate for any help...
Im having similar issues with the Froyo version.
There are several of us asking the same question over in the developer forum and not getting a response there either. I will watch both sides of the discussion and when an answer comes, I will try to pass it along.
It seems like a number of us are facing the issue, but we have not captured the attention of anyone who can help us fix it. But I am sure an answer will come.
Just for clarity sake, at least in my situation, I do have internet connectivity and can use the browser in HC to surf, but the google apps cannot get a connection to sign in to my existing google account.
Any fixes out there?
Mark me down as another sufferer. Glad to know it isn't just me!
Froyo - works correctly
Honeycomb - no connection error while browser connects just fine

Your device has reset and the system is looking for a cell connection. If you re-image the device and come up via a WiFi connection, it should work,
I have the same problem whenever I clear the cache on the market, and force stop google frameworks, and clear data. I have to reinstall after running these steps, which used to fix it.
Could this be a fingerprint issue? I am using the recommended fingerprint from the nookdevs.com site. (ro.build.fingerprint=verizon/voles/sholes/sholes:2.2.1/FRG83D/75603:user/release-keys )
I too have had an issue like this if I clear the cache from the market. I tried to point this out in the dev forum, but I wasn't able to since it is my first post. (I mostly lurk...)
I just noticed this reply in the developer forum. ADB isn't working for me, so I can't test it.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=955430&page=2
Ok, I was having this problem but adb shelling in and issuing all of those setprop commands to set the operator to t-mobile did in fact restore my market access.
After calling customer help for hours and getting useless tips, I thought why not post it here.
I have a P1000L Tab, and the internet for the tab seems to go through a proxy, which was setup in the APN section in the settings menu. However, only the Browser seems to work well. Every single other app, including market, just tries, but fails.
I downloaded the Dolphin HD browser, but only viewing pages work, dowloading gives me a "no connection" error, while using flash just crashes my browser. Again, these things work on the regular browser.
So, is there any way I can fix this? I'll go as far as rooting and installing some custom ROMs if I have to, but that's on my to-do list anyways.
TL;DR, Internet wont work on anything except stock browser. I suspect the APN setting are to blame. Any help is appreciated.
You didn't mention your country or carrier, but go to google, and search "my carrier my country apn settings" and you will get what you need.
You shouldn't be using a proxy.
I've seen a few different solutions to the spotty MMS issues on custom 4.2.2 ROMs floating around so I thought I would create a thread to catalog them here. For those wondering there is an issue with seemingly all the D4 4.2.2 custom ROMs that causes MMS to randomly stop working. It seems rebooting or wiping cache/dalvik seems to fix it for some but it eventually comes back. I don't send many MMS messages so I can't really attest to how well any of these work.
Solution #1:
1. You will need a root file explorer like Root Explorer.
2. Navigate to /data/data/com.android.providers.telephony/databases/telephony.db
3. Rename telephony.db to telephony.db.xx
4. Reboot your phone and all should be well.
(Thanks to NeoPheonixTE on DroidForums for this one)
Solution #2:
Use the Verizon Messages app from the Play Store.
(Thanks to ws6formula350 on DroidForums for this one)
Solution #3:
Go to Settings, Wireless & Networks, More..., Mobile Networks, Access Point Names. Scroll down until you find whichever APN that your phone is using - in my case, my phone uses "LTE - Verizon Internet". Tap on the selection - NOT the blue bubble on the right - and scroll down until you find "MMSC". Tap on that, and in the box that comes up, type "http://mms.vtext.com/servlets/mms", without the quotes. Submit, press the Menu key, tap "save", back out to the Home screen, and reset.
(Thanks to Jishkah on DroidForums for this one)
If others have suggested these solutions elsewhere let me know and I will give them credit as well.
Good luck and let us all know if any of these solutions work for you!
Hey. Made an account to say this: I'm not sure if Solution #3 works. More than anything, I've found that MMS in custom ROMs are a hit-or-miss; every once in a while, they'll send, but, a vast majority of time, they won't. I found that bit of advice - changing the MMSC setting - on another website, and it seemed to work for me. However, the Droid 4 jumps between EHRPD - Verizon Internet, and LTE - Verizon Internet, so I'd recommend applying this setting to both of those networks.
Once again, I'm not sure if that'll work for sure, but it's worth a shot, no? Another idea that I had would be to copy the APN settings from the stock ROM to whatever custom ROM that you're using - I haven't tested this out, but it may work. It may also bar you from using Wireless Tether, too. Once again, I'm not an expert.
Ever since I have this phone, I have been unable to sign-in to open Wi-Fi services that require it (like in some fast-food chains for example).
Usually when you make use of seach a service you are directed to a sign-in page in your webbrowser, after which you enter some details and/or accept some conditions. However, whenever I am directed to such a page it will not load. I have tried this in multiple places, all resulting in the same error. The error tells me it couldn't connect to the server by the way, the same you get when you try to browse without having a connection. My default browser is FireFox, but I have also tried switching default to stock browser and chrome so the page would be opened there, and they garner the same result. Coincidentally I have been perfectly fine signing in on FireFox with a different device. I think this pretty much excludes the browser as the culprit, so it seems like a device problem. Possibly a setting somewhere?
In any case, if anyone has any ideas I'd love to hear them!
I had a similar issue, I realised that it was because I was using adguard DNS. Turned that off and it now works 100% of the time.
I'm having this problem with the WiFi at the gym. I don't have adguard either. Not sure what causes this. I'm also using Firefox, but I didn't have any problems with my HTC.
I usually find it's because most sites use https and the sign in pages are using http.
Try going to a site that still uses http, my site of choice, as it's easy to remember is:
http://neverssl.com

I did indeed have Blokada installed with adguard DNS enabled. But even uninstalling it didn't solve the issue for me. Thanks for the suggestion though!

Thanks for the suggestion! Just visisted a couple of http only sites, and they loaded just fine. So I suppose my issue is elsewhere.
Http://neverssl.com is useful for when you are trying to sign on to a wifi portal and need to go to a page that won't redirect to https and fail.
So I found a setting in the device settings for a DNS server. Switching it to 'automatic' allowed me to access the login site for the WiFi service, so yesterday I was able to use the connection. Unfortunately, after a device reboot, it failed to allow me to sign in again. Every time this happens, it tries to direct me to connectivitycheck.platform.hicloud.com and then fails to connect. Luckily due to my success earlier, I had the link to the sign-in page in my history and that allowed me to visit the sign-in page directly. Visiting neverssl did nothing for me in any of the cases, by the way. All in all I suppose it has something to do with the DNS settings of the device, even though changing them to the settings that worked for me before didn't do anything for me this time.
