Root Droid FRG83G without computer? - Motorola Droid and Milestone General

I recently obtained a Motorola Droid with a broken charger port, I bought an external battery charger to use it but I can't figure out a way to root it. I've googled all around for a Droid root, but the only ones I can find are for the Droid 2 (tried those and didn't work) or pre-FRG83G. So is there a way to root it without a computer or a way to downgrade from FRG83G?

Try with Universal Androot, available from Market

I've tried both Universal Androot and z4root, neither works. In both cases it looks like the apps fail to mount anything in the system, same for when I tried installing rage.bin manually. I couldn't even cd into /data/local/tmp. Why is all this happening?

root for FRG22D

Hey guys,
Trying to help a buddy at work unlock his driod1 - he updated to FFRG22D - now any of the single click root methods do not work..
My phone is a nexus1 and did not have these issues: As I am not a Droid owner / user I am hoping people in the forums here help to get him rooted.
I would like to get him on to ClockWork - so we can flash CM6 on his droid.
Can someone point me to a good guide to rooting this?
Cheers,
hey if he is OTA FRG22D can you please post his build.prop file for me to take a look at, it can be found under /system on phone memory, i am working out a market fix for rooted frg01b users like my self, i wont update until after frg22d is rooted for real but i can spoof the version and fingerprint if i have that file contents
i found what i was looking for after a while, thanks.

Have you had any luck? My buddy had his phone replaced and the new one has this update, but he would like me to root it again for him.
can you not just download the old froyo, put it in the sd as update.zip, flash that then root?
FRG22D hotspot app
I have the OTA FRG22D stock unrooted. In-order to root it, I used the following procedure, from droidforums:
"Root Droid 1 - regardless of OS version". After installing the custom recovery:
"MC1_A855_1282081087_Recovery-Only_SPRecovery_0.99.3b.sbf", I was then successful installing a wifi hotspot app

So to root I just rename the file to update.zip and install it that way?

The one click root apps do not work with FRG22D. The exploit those apps used was patched with this release.
The FRG01B & FRG22B stock/odex/deodex only work for devices that are already rooted. Meaning that if you do manage to imstall them you will not have root.
You need to do a *sbf* back to 2.1 or2.01.
root droid regardless of os version.

well, ****. I'm new so I can't post outside links yet, but go to droidforums and search "[HowTo] Root, Deodex, and Theme Droid Froyo 2.2 FRG22D"
worked fine for me, no issues so far.
Use the rsdlite process, hold the x down on your phone when it says rebooting

I'm new to the Droid 1 I came from the Eris and it is easy!!!!
Okay so I did it with out even having internet on my pc or Linux laptop which thank god I finally got internet today!!!! Use the rageagainstthecage-arm5.bin method... Super easy I actually downloaded using my D1 transfered file from my phone to Linux laptop and changed the Windows commands to Linux commands and it worked and then I went in to market and flashed Clockwork!!!! Oh and yes I'm on FRG22D the phone came as a replacement for my Eris and it already had this build on it... PM me if you have any questions...

It doesn't.
The method that RodNoc_eR just mentioned above just worked for me. Here's the link again: http://www.droidforums.net/forum/droid-labs/74028-root-droid-1-regardless-os-version.html
for those of you who are doing this the complicated way, THERE IS a ONE-CLICK METHOD, since I cant post links, Google SuperOneClick, download and find instructions, its pretty much as easy as downloading the .zip, extracting it to where ever you want, right click on SuperOneClick application and Run as Administrator, make sure USB debugging is checked, DO NOT mount as USB storage device, click root button on the program, let it do its thing, and wa-la!
You have acheived root! Be sure to download the Custom Recovery of your choice, which is as easy as DLing Rom Manager from the Market and flashing ClockworkMod, I just did this and am now happy I spent time searching and not typing commands into the SDK, super easy and it works for the DROID 1 FRG22d, I just did it.
Enjoy!

[Q] Help with rooting

ok, so i'm new the the droid 1. i'm helping my brother in law because i have experience with incredibles and droid x's... i've been to every post on every forum i can find and have tried every option and none are working. he got it on craigslist with 2.1 still installed on it. i used universal androot first (which i don't normally do but the xda forum said that was the latest and easiest way to do i), it seemed to work, all the root apps were working. installed 2.2 frg22d from rom manager. lost root after that. universal androot won't work now (i realized it wasn't meant to after i read it everywhere) but it does still say i'm rooted. but, rom manager won't work, wireless tether, teamblackhat app won't work... etc. trying to flash using instructions on androidforums.com now BUT the the problem i'm having is, when i reboot to try and get into the bootloader, it pops up but after about 3-5 seconds it reboots into the os by itself. can anyone tell me what is going on? i've never had this much trouble with the inc or x and this is supposed to be easier to hack around with. thanks in advance...

if he can get into recovery mode via turning phone off holding x and power until recovery mode comes up he can flash another rom. You and/or your friend can feel free to pm me for further assistance.

I am sure the OP has it fixed, but if jamezelle got stumped, go ahead to my guides and/or contact me as well. It's pretty easy, and there's several ways.
And then there's even z4root (free) in the market.
good luck
Yea z4root definitely works u may have to do it s couple tries it may hang while trying to root if that's the case simply reboot and try again

[Q] How to Root Droid 1 FRG83G

Months ago I was rooted but stupidly allowed the OTA update for 2.2.2. Now my phone has been unrooted and recently I have switched to a different OG Droid on the same 2.2.2 frg83g build. Can anyone help me root my device? I have tried using super one click and a version of z4root.
My idea would be to downgrade to 2.2.1 and then root and bounce back to 2.3.5 which I read was out. Only problem with this is finding the right update.zip file and then how I would go about rooting from there.
I would like to re-root to hold me down until my next phone which wil be sometime this fall....droid bionic cough cough.
Is there anyone who could help?
My phone is a Motorola Droid (Verizon) on android 2.2.2 FRG83G build.
P.S. When I used SuperOneClick the program did not respond and would always get stuck on waiting for device. I toggled the usb debugging on and off after several attempts. HELP WOULD BE SO MUCH APPRECIATED!!!!
Try z4root or universal androot.

Universal Androot version 1.6.1 (I believe) failed. It looked like it was going to work and then got to generating root script and went to failed. Z4root would also just click me back to the homescreen. Reason as to why?

Other required phone setup settings...
In addition to checking USB Debugging, I also checked:
Settings -> Applications -> Unknown sources
Settings -> Applications -> Allow mock locations
After this, running superoneclick worked.

rooting without a computer possible

i have heard people talking about it, how is it done?
There's apps like z4root that root your phone with No computer. Also something like universal root
Sent from my iPhone killer.
im not sure z4root will work on a vivid will it?
also how is universal androot one click, is it good?
any luck?
did you have any luck with those apps? I wouldnt think those apps would work without the computer because you need that token id from your phone by using the command prompt to unlock your bootloader.
You can only temp root with boot loader locked

There most likely won't be any. You can just download the toolkit and it will do it all for you.
