rooting without a computer possible - HTC Vivid, Raider, Velocity

i have heard people talking about it, how is it done?

There's apps like z4root that root your phone with No computer. Also something like universal root
Sent from my iPhone killer.

im not sure z4root will work on a vivid will it?

also how is universal androot one click, is it good?

any luck?
did you have any luck with those apps? I wouldnt think those apps would work without the computer because you need that token id from your phone by using the command prompt to unlock your bootloader.

You can only temp root with boot loader locked

Updates on an app that will work?

There most likely won't be any. You can just download the toolkit and it will do it all for you.

Could i just buy a sim unlock code for my Galaxy S?

im hearing all this "its easy to get an unlock code for the Galaxy S" but the guide isnt that clear to me and i dont want to risk bricking my galaxy s while rooting it.
So would i just be able to buy an unlock code instead, i came across one site that was recommnded on these forums but it did not list the Galaxy S on there.
So does anybody know if i could buy an unlock code that i can just enter into my phone without any rooting and stuff? and where could i buy one?
thankss
edit: even if somebody on this forum could get a code for me, they would obviously need to have some kind of rep on here though, not just somebody with 20 posts
There's an app out there for the galaxy s. You don't even need to root your phone. Its called "SGS UNLOCK" if I'm not mistaken. Worked great on mine.

Ive tried that but it says no code found. It says that the methods with roots are much more sucessful
i would just go ahead and root my phone but it sounds risky and i dont know where i would start with rooting it. Where is the guide on here?
Well i rooted the phone myself and i downloaded the sgs unlock pro app that seems to be working for everybody but i just crashes for me
this sucks
You tried the unlock-service on "samfirmware"?
I didn't test it but maybe this works.

Just download one click root to your computer and plug your phone to the computer with debugging on and than click root. Thats it.
Buy the pro version of sgs unlock app from market and you are done. Its that easy.

thats exactly what i did, it said root was sucessful and the app appeared on my phone. I then downloaded the pro ulock app and pressed unlock but the app would just crash and quits soo i just refunded the app.
I dont see what i couldve done wrong. I didnt have an sd card in the phone and i had debugging on.
thanks anyway. So i cant just go ahead and buy a code like the good old days?

[Q] Nexus One Downgrade

I want to downgrade my nexus because i let my little sister play with it (big mistake) i had it rooted on 2.2.2 (superoneclick) and now im on gingerbread! i cant downgrade to 2.2 or 2.2.2 it just gives me an error could i try to use the passimg.zip and try to flash 2.2 that way to reroot it?
EDIT:just tried the passimg.zip it said main version older any suggestions?
Read the forum, I'm sure there is a downgrade thread within the last 2 pages.
I don't think there's a fix for the "main version is older" problem, unless you unlock the bootloader...

yes but im going to try with my other win 7 laptop then my winxp netbook tonight maybe then it will work. btw do i have to have the sdk set up?
Setting up the sdk is basically installing the drivers, and making sure you have the necessary files (adb, fastboot, su, or whatever)

Root Droid FRG83G without computer?

I recently obtained a Motorola Droid with a broken charger port, I bought an external battery charger to use it but I can't figure out a way to root it. I've googled all around for a Droid root, but the only ones I can find are for the Droid 2 (tried those and didn't work) or pre-FRG83G. So is there a way to root it without a computer or a way to downgrade from FRG83G?

I've tried both Universal Androot and z4root, neither works. In both cases it looks like the apps fail to mount anything in the system, same for when I tried installing rage.bin manually. I couldn't even cd into /data/local/tmp. Why is all this happening?

Why do htcs always wipe when rooting?

Both my flyer and vivid are still stock and unrooted. Why? Because I have them set up the way I like them and don't wanna have to re download everything and set them back up again. What's the deal with htcs? My captivate was as simple as plug it into the pc, click "root".

Uh, they don't need to be wiped when rooted.
They need to be wiped when the bootloader is unlocked (granted, which is necessary for rooting), and that's just a consequence of the unlocking process that HTC has implemented as a means of keeping user data secure should you be trying to do something stupid with your phone.
The reason that the Captivate was so easy to root was because it had an unlocked bootloader from the start.
They wipe the data because when the boot loader is unlocked any data that you have on there is no longer secure. Its a protective measure for your privacy.

You can always use easy app lock to backup, and batch install your apps. It would take...5 minutes to set up a Tablet/Phone like it was before a root.

So there is a way without using titanium backup?

I don't think so. Actual 'rooting' takes place within a rooted ROM, but you have to unlock your bootloader first, and even that is not a one-click process. MAYBE if you get the HTC dev unlock code file via email, and place it in a certain folder on your PC, there may be a script out there that could do the rest, but that of course requires a PC with proper ADB and HTC driver setup. Bottom line is I don't think it can be done without a PC.
