Hi guys,
I have a rooted Milestone, with a Starhub SBF. Recently, I needed to bring my Milestone back for warranty so I need to reflash/SBF it back to normal, but I cannot access the bootloader mode necessary! It is the exact same problem as: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=843346, but no one replied to that thread. When I hold up and the power button, the screen goes blank for a good minute (probably trying to access bootloader), but then it fails and reboots normally. When I tried to access bootloader via RSDLite (e.g. connecting normally, then pressing "start" to restart into bootloader), the same thing happens, and RSDLite reports: Failed flashing process.Unable to retrieve interface handle.(0x7027).
I really don't understand how a bootloader can get messed up like that! Even using the usual (DPAD UP + Power button) combo doesn't work. I'm using 90.78 bootloader.
EDIT:
If nobody can find a solution, can I please request for a nandroid backup for SINGAPORE milestones, just like the list here: http://www.motorolafans.com/forums/motorola-milestone/30077-nandroid-backup-wanted.html. Unfortunately it does not include the Singapore version, it is very very appreciated to have it, quite desperate now ):
Thank you so much for any help.

You said,
"When I hold up and the power button, the screen goes blank for a good minute (probably trying to access bootloader), but then it fails and reboots normally."
doesn't the bootloader run after pressing POWER, UP, & THE CAMERA BUTTON at the same time.
try that!

Bootloader is only the Power button and D-pad Up. Recovery is Power+x, then Camera and Volume-up.
Well,
they both work i guess.
i didn't know this one and i guess you know the other now.
By UP i mean VOLUME UP, not DPAD
POWER, VOLUME UP, & CAMERA BUTTON at the same time (for 3 secs)
What about flashing the Bootloader file one more time via RSD???
Guys, i'm from Brazil and i have the same problem. The power on/off/lock/unlock button of my phone doesnt work. When i try to put the phone in the bootloader mode, he shows the same problem: the screen goes blank for a good minute (probably trying to access bootloader), but then it fails and reboots normally.
I need put the official 2.2 ROM of Motorola, but i cant.
You have any idea of what is this problem? Any solution?
have the same here!! =///
i dont have the power button and cant get on bootloader mode.
try every thing, of combinations and that stuf, nothing works.
on rsd lite, i get the 0x7027 error
any help?

Hey Everyone,
I was trying to start from scratch with my spare G1 and go through the rooting process again.
I upload the original SPL zip file and the DREAIMG.nbh to the root of the SD card
renamed the SPL to update.zip
flashed it through Cyanogen's recovery image
rebooted the phone
tried to gain access to the bootloader through the camera+power combo so that I could reflash DREAIMG.nbh but all I got to was Cyanogen's recovery screen seemingly in some sort of loop. See the screen shot for the recovery screen. I have left it in this state for an hour or so but nothing happens.
Everything seemed to be going fine over the last few weeks as I was flashing different ROMS and themes to my hearts content. Then I upgraded to Cyanogen's recovery image from JF's and things started to go south so then I figured I would go back to stock to start again.
I'm not sure where to go from here, but I know I'm not bricked and it may be questionable whether I am even soft bricked because I have had success twice flashing both thedudes cupcake and JF latest build but it seems I can't do anything else.
Any suggestions to get back to stock so I can start over? My ultimate goal is to upgrade from the engSPL to the hrdSPL, the radio has been updated to the latest since I first rooted and I haven't touched that since. I had success upgraded the original SPL to the engSPL and have flashed may ROMS since.

Unless I'm mistaken, I think I know what you're trying to do.
I think you mistakenly held down HOME and POWER when it should have been CAMERA and POWER (as you noted).
For the benefit of others...
1. Make sure that DREAIMG.nbh is in the root of your sdcard.
2. DREAIMG.nbh is case sensitive. Make sure DREAIMG is capital, and nbh is lowercase.
3. Turn your phone off (remove battery if necessary).
4. Hold down the CAMERA button while pressing the POWER ON button.
5. You'll need to press the HOME button to restore DREAIMG.nbh. Do that when asked.
6. Wait
7. Give it the three finger salute when all done to reboot your phone (hold down the MENU button and press the green button and the red button at the same time).
That should get you back to RC29.
Just for good mesure..

For good measure also backup your sd card, format it and only use the files you need on it.
No I pressed the right combination of buttons but pretty much anything I was doing was bringing me to the recovery screen. I pulled the battery, loaded it in again, pressed end+camera and I got to the bootloader from there so I was able to flash DREAIMG.nbh so I'm good now. Hopefully this thread will help others.

Hate to ask such a basic question but are you definitely holding the *down* volume and power key? I think I had something similar happen to me once (and only once) but I think I'd been holding the up volume instead of the down and thought that must have caused it...
Yes danny, im sure im holding the volume down, no matter what I do , the phone would boot to this only screen
Have you tried ADB?
Have you tried booting in the hboot via fastboot?
yes did try ADB, but computer won't recognize the phone
Looks like the recovery image on your device does not exist or is corrupted. Install the recovery image (ClockWorkMod) via the bootloader or via fastboot. Both are easy methods. Just search for the installation process in the forums.
I'm really sorry nobody with a bit more experience has managed to find anything much to suggest so far, I really feel for you! Googling around a bit I found this for another HTC phone - might be worth trying.
Pull the battery, hold down the volume up key and stick the battery back in and press the power button keeping the volume up held down. After that (apparently that does a different type of boot again), pull the battery once more, this time hold down the volume down button and stick the battery back in. Hit the power still holding the power down and see if that lets you back to recovery...
It's not much but better than nothing ands worth a try. The other site it was mentioned on it worked for getting back to the recovery menu but it was a different device...
Thank you danny for mentioning this, i already tried that too, i think the device is bricked , i am going to try a box one of my friends has, then ill post what will happen here..
thank you again for all who shared their knowledge
That must be a new method of bricking a device. Never heard anything similar. One should think twice before updating YouTube lol
Sent from my Incredible S using XDA
can you try one more thing?
- Get a ROM with the recovery image contained in the zip file. The name should be recovery.img. If not get a recovery image for IncS and copy it over into the ROM's zip file
- Then rename the ROM zip file to update.zip and put it on the SD card
- Then boot the phone using the Vol Down+Power button to go into HBOOT
See if HBOOT will detect this update.zip file and automatically flash the ROM.
Nothing but that screen i am able to get, no hboot no recovery, i used the ORT box, to fix the hboot, and now working like charm
I've never encounter a situation where after youtube.apk update you need a reboot..
Are you sure it was 'just' the youtube you changed. Also was it offical via Playstore?
My Samsung Galaxy Mini won't turn on, when I press the start up button a message comes up on the screen i.e.( lcd-backlight-ctrl start
determine-lcd-type,lcd type:61bc11) but nothing else happens. When I press Vol down+Home+Power, phone boot on with a lot of texts,
and start normally. I can't get recovery mode or downloading mode for odin use. Can anyone help me please? I'm newbie. Thanx
Same problem right here. Any idea?
What have you done before facing this issue?
Sent from my GT-S5570 using xda premium
In my case, volum up button doesn't work, and phone doesn't enter in downlaod model, just in some emergency mode arm9... something like that. I try to update software, i think because it's some software problem. After that, everything ok (start downlaod mode with kies, and update with odin). Odin show pass(isn't first phone that I update with odin, but everything before was ok). When phone start, show this .... and i don't know what should I do. Any help, any idea?

Be careful and press only vol down and not both volup and down...try.
Before, I update with odin: Galaxy S, Galaxy gio(2x), Galaxy ace(3x), another galaxy mini, with odin.
Weird it is then, cuz i know holding volup+down+home+power will get u to emergency download mode...whatever that is.
It's possible. The person who gave it to me to make them update said the volume up button does not work very well. Be a reason? Phone also have another problem, battery drain, in 5 minutes, battery goes from 70% to 20%. Wipe battery stats in CWM should resolve this? 100% probably no, but something?
Im having the same problem, I get "lcd_backlight_ctrl start" when im trying to turn my phone on, can only go to Emergency download mode
I have firmware from http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1551586 and i get this error after i tryed to go to recovery mode (Clockwork recovery not flashed)
EDIT: Got into normal download mode, reflashed roms, now its working fine. Apperiantly theres a problem with my "Volume up" button.
For future
This combination which u have triggered is: Volume up + menu + power or just Volume Up + power

Hi,
After getting the lollipop update notice, i downloaded and tried installing the same. But after reboot at about 2/3rd installation of new system it aborted with no error at an icon with dead android. This icon persisted for a long time and i rebooted the mobile. Now it is stuck at "powered by android" message with no progress.
I have tried so far:
- vol down button and power: Recover option. This gave me no command error.
- vol up button and power: delete /data and /cache. The mobile automatically rebooted and is stuck at the same message - "powered by android"
How I can recover my mobile? either to stock 4.4.4 or 5.0
My cell is stock 4.4.4, dual sim 1068 (Indian version)
Thanks for any help..
I have the same problem as you, have you found any solution yet?

If you can get to fastboot mode by holding power and volume down till screen goes blank -- count 1,2,3,4,5 release both and recovery should come up.

External Reset
If you are unable to access the phone's menu to perform the standard reset you can attempt an external factory reset.
Notes:
When using this feature; everything is deleted from the device.
Reset will require a minimum battery level of 25%. If you are unable to perform a reset, please charge for 20-30 minutes and try reset again.
1. With the phone powered off, press the VOL DOWN KEY for 2-3 seconds then POWER key then release.
2. The device will display different BOOT OPTIONS (THIS IS BOOTLOADER SCREEN)
2A GOTO 3 TO RESET OR RUN MY SCRIPT FROM SIGNATURE ( YOUR CHOICE)
3. Use the VOL DOWN Key to SCROLL to Recovery and VOL UP Key to select
Tip: If the device reboots, you may have waited to long to make a selection, you will need to begin the process again.
4. The device will display the Motorola logo and then the Android in distress ( logo with Exclamation mark)
5. Press and hold the VOL UP key for 10-15 seconds. While still holding the VOL UP key tap and release the POWER key
Tip: You can try this step, holding the phone in landscape. If you are stuck on step 6, try a force reboot by pressing the Power key and Vol Down key, and start the process again.
6. The device will display additional menu options (Text will appear in BLUE)
7. Use the VOL DOWN Key to scroll to Wipe data / factory reset and the POWER Key to select this option
8. Use the VOL DOWN key again to select YES - delete all user data and press the POWER key to CONFIRM
9. Once the Formatting is complete, press the POWER key to confirm a REBOOT
10. The device will reboot and start the normal power up sequence

I flashed my Lenovo A7000a (MT6752) to update to android 6.0 (it was rooted)with the "format all then download" option on SP tool. Now when i try to switch it on it shows a blank screen and dies. When connect my phone (power button down ofcourse) to pc with the SPTool download button activated, I am able to flash my phone again, but result is the same. The autorun for LenovoSuite even pops up when I connect the phone to PC. I am thinking that I may have flashed the wrong/bad ROM to my phone, will update again
Update: Flashed with "download only" option with an older ROM, phone is able to boot, but with the same blank screen, and I can press the power button to turn the screen off, or on. Not able to boot into recovery mode, meta mode, or whatever anything, just a white blank screen.
