Well LG is now saying anytime soon...
I guess thats means by the end of this year...
Want to get CM on my 2x, but can't
Never ever LG for me...
Notice how the optimus 3d has been delayed. My thinking is that was the priority. Once launched they'd fix our problem. Its been delayed by 2/3 weeks which means our update will probably be as well.
Hope I'm wrong mind you. Thankfully I'm not getting too many bsod‘s

From LG Denmark: update delayed as it was not approved but still on track to a June release. Basically "any time soon".

I agree...
But I don't think so... They can't follow simple instructions...
Yea. They did not implement the source code the right way, they got regarding Virtual Souround. Still waiting for that... (Got a friend working at the company that makes the software)
I Guess an LG error... :-(
See here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1129486
I emailed LG customer service from 4 different countries. The two answers I got were:
1) Yes yes we are sorry for the delay and the update is coming this summer
2) No sorry there is no ETA on any update for this phone. Not even summer? No.
Their customer service have no idea on what's going on. It's ridiculous quite frankly.
Every single mobile company does this, not just LG.
Lets be thankful that a Gingerbread update is still in the works; they usually just abandon support when a new phone comes out.

True but by the time they release GB, LG will have a better fone out and then will bypass any updates for old fones.
I never understand why mobile manufactures can make new fones faster than update there software?!. I suppose its about trying to sell more units?.
I think we wont see it this year and by the time we do get the update, we will have quad core processes and better os updates to Android than GB... Its not just LG, but ALL of them that are more interested in bringing out new hardware than to fully support what they have out already. One word... MONEY.
In away, thats why I like what is happening to gaming consoles. Its no longer about bringing a new one out every 2 years (like it used to be) and more into software and developing different ideas to bring new life into gaming.
Just wish hardware manufactures were pushing as hard for there software . Thats the real problem now.

Apple is also doing a great job here.
My guess is that only a fraction of all android users cares about the OS kernels and other tweaks, as example. I was helping my Gf to get a new phone. She wanted a red one, with facebook on it. While i was dropping some easy specs like: multitouch, gb, memory, cpu etc. After a minute she replied,Thats sound cool, but DOES IT HAVE facebook... i think shes avarage phoneuser
So to be honest, why pay engineers to make software to people that doesnt care, when they can push phones to the market and actually make some profit.
I like LG.
they released this amazing piece of electronics and they opened up much more then many other brands (SonyEricsson, Samsung). So just becuause of that im running Gingerbread with oc/uv. So stop nagging, its a great phone and with cyanogen, arcee and many other developers, this has become a monster. We dont need LGs sw, android comunity makes it better.

So if your girlfriend - with her limited knowledge of technology - where to buy this phone she should just root it and throw a custom firmware on it? Do you think that is very likely and consumer like her would do that?
You DO NOT need LG's firmware but 90% of all consumers do. And there is no way you can justify LG's action by doing their work. The product as a whole is not working and just because you like to change parts of it does not excuse this fact.
Still a week and a half to go before June ends so hopefully there will not be another delay. I think last time they said it has been delayed by 3-4 weeks. I'll be happy with a bug free stock phone that just works regardless of whether it is FroYo or GB.

90% of all consumers are probably saticfied with their smartphone. The rest of us who arent can easily change it if we wants to (of course we want, becuse we can ). So all i hear is "Gimme some crap i dont want or need...
The point with my gf is, she doesnt care. No problem. She is happy. Good.

Yes maybe 90% of all consumers are satisfied with THEIR smartphone. Do we need to point out how low LG's market share is in this segment? Do you really think that 90% of Optimus 2x users are satisfied with their phone??
The Optimus 2x freezes without being able to recover without a battery pull. That means every user expecting to receive calls or uses their phone as an alarm will be not be satisfied.
My brother bought this phone (not with my recommondation) and he - like your girlfriend - just expect it to work without going into technical details. He has missed calls and alarms already. It goes without saying that he is NOT satisfied and neither would your GF have been if she had bought this phone. Try and ask if she would be okay with missed calls and alarms.
Are saying this phone is only for the elite of 10% or less who wants to waste their freetime on installing experimental software?
Trentors is absolutely right here, 90% of the LG O2x users are ordinary users who are not satisfied with the current LG stock rom - but they are ordinary users not interested in having to do LG's work and install custom roms with everything this includes.
They have a legitimite demand on LG to provide what LG sold them - a working phone. Not a phone that reboots randomly, freeze randomly, run out of memory randomly, lags in various different situations for various different reasons (all reasons caused by poor programming from LG) - they have a legitimite demand on LG to provide updates to fix this, they have a legitimate demand that it should have been there from the beginning. They are not demanding gingerbread per say because its gingerbread, they are just demanding a properly working stock rom - it just happens that they may look to a gingerbread update as an expected way to get a working stock rom.
Herkuk, you are pissing on all these ordinary users with your statements here - I and the rest of these 90% O2x users dont care how much you want to tinker with custom roms - thats your choise, not ours - we dont care about OC abilities or all the other aspects you feel so much for in custom roms - we just want LG to provide what we paied for - namely a stock rom working the way its supposed to work. Plain and simple.
I do not accept the trend where manufacturers are allowed to release beta products or developer products as final products and then ditch any support in order to release new beta products which also do not work right - just because a group of geeks are happy just to get some new hardware to tinker with.
When I buy any other product I expect it to work - I expect my new car to drive without the wheels falling off or the brakes not working - I expect my new flatscreen TV to be able show a picture everytime I turn it on, not only every other time, and I dont expect it to randomly shutdown or get black screen whenever Im trying to watch a movie.
I dont care if you like LG or not - I dont care for fanboyisme - I demand the same from LG as I demand from any other manufacturer that want to sell me there products. Its not my job (even If I have the abilities) to do LG's work and fix their product.

Yeah. I bet your girlfriend would love my LGP990. Whenever I don't have any reception my phone needs a reboot to be able to recieve calls, or send\recieve text messages.
I actually went back to the store and got a replacement with the exact same problem. Also with different SIM.

According to the danish lg site, under FAQ of the LG Optimus 2x, they say that it'll be out in june/july 2011. So that seems to be as official they have stated a release date yet
If that's real, than it's a real shame. 6 months to get GB working on their flagship device seems really lame and only shows LG inability to give the updates in a timely manner. In June Android 2.4 will be already launched.
Yeah this sucks ballzzzz
Yeah it seems to be true, but have only been posted (as far as I have checked) on the Scandinavian sites for Denmark, Sweden and Norway.

oh my goodness when is the cyanogen gingerbread update .........
hehe who cares? I only care about CM7
The problem is there are a lot of fixes needed even within the LG Android 2.2.2, it's not all about providing GB. The stock LG software is subpar in my oppinion and the problems signaled here and on other forums needs to be addressed by LG hopefully before June.
[email protected], CM7 would be nice but for O2X is in a far from usable state.
If LG launch the 2.3 with the know how demonstrated on 2.2... I don't see how this is a good news...
CM7 is all that mater
maybe LG is waiting for cm7, and get the idea from it
I absolutely agree with the statement "Who cares, I just want CM7".
Then again, LG having the low-level dev access that they have (drivers and whatnot), isn't much easier for them to dev the update than for us to dev CM7? Moreover, wouldn't it be much easier to port CM7 if we had an LG 2.3 ROM?
Cheers.

I kind of like LG for the speed, is much faster than the Galaxy S no matter what kernel you had on it, but O2X has other problems like the poor audio quality in calls and still the software doesn't feel like it's the final version, more like a test one. I agree we should expect more because the super fast hardware is there. It's a reality manufacturers don't care about that, they act like sell only the hardware and after that, they wash their hands. At least Samsung continue to support the Galaxy S which will have GB within weeks and in the meantime we have to wait until summer to get our port on O2X. I would never buy Apple, they sell just boring super expensive and locked products, that are still owned by them even after they sell them to you. If you want Android without headaches, the best bet is on the Nexus Phones. But, in the end, you can't have everything I guess...
Wow, that was long... what are we talking about here?

No it doesnt do an excellent job - besides the obvious problems with bsod and rebooting which many are facing, it also has a number of other very annoying issues which everyone are effected by and which everyone hopes gets resolved with Gingerbread. Your phone are no different than any other O2x and your phone has exactly the same issues as everyone elses. Just because you may not be experienced enough to recognize these issues, doesnt mean your phone does an excellent job - it only means your standards are less than others.
If we ever do get a properly optimised Gingerbread fixing these issues, then you will perhaps have a better understanding of how this phone should be running, considering the hardware.
Man even if there would be no reason for 2. 3 i just wanna have it , only the custom ginger roms that were gonna have is more than enough as a update reason . Dude we are like frozen atm stuck at optimated stock roms and thers not much left to "optimale "
I too have no bsod or reboots not even once. The only problem i have is poor battery but this is also the case for all android phones. Other than that. Been very happy with my phone and I'm sure gingerbread will make me happier.

The answer is easy... that's because they are LG !!
Try to sell as many as possible
So they spend most of time to promote their products, not spend time for software..
Don't you see? How long they spend for reboot fix...and yet not solve it
But why is it so hard to port android from google to the different phones?
Sent from my LG-P990 using Tapatalk
Too big HW diversity, crapy HW designs, bug-plagued drivers..
From my opinion, they need their own unique.
if the software is the same (standard from google)
the market share would be seized by Samsung, HTC, Sony.
However, LG still lack of professional to solve most of problem that the end users are suffering (like us, freezing/rebooting problem)

'cause each company has to adapt their drivers for each phone. That's why it's hard.
And here is why it take so long : because they all feel forced to add a stupid brand layer (LG Home, LG apps... But that's true with most of the companies).

Hmm... Can't understand that either... Drivers for tegra 2 is made by nvidia right? All LG has to do is add the driver to google's android? Other HW in the phone is not developed by LG either so they will have a driver from the manufactor wont they?
All i see that LG have to do is to develop the awful crapware they ship the phones with. That would perhaps take some time... but 6!! SIX!! months???

fact is, Samsung is a company that is only interesed in your money, just like all other companies out there. They're not a charity organisation. They want you to buy their phones.
the SGS has gotten 2 major firmware updates. eclair to froyo and froyo to gingerbread. There's not alot of phones out there that have gotten the same luck.
Of course it would be nice to receive an ICS updates but frankly i don't care. There's already a good working unofficial ICS rom and official Gingerbread rom does it's job more than pleasant.
I would say it's your loss since samsung always make better phone with better price compare to apple made in china trash. I know the software is not too good buy you have plenty developers here that can help the phone runs better. If you want ics just used one cosmics rom.

At the end of the day the SGS is near 2 years old and seeing as the SGS3 is around the corner I would consider the SGS old!
Anycase there is a ICS ROM for the SGS, just used that and be happy!
onecosmic and cyanogen can not fix the camera and other minor things without the drivers from samsung and i have 2.3 almost 6 months. so no i dont consider one year of updates to be that good. you want your phone, to be updated for a year and then throwit to the garbage?.
one year of updates for a phone who sold millions world wide is not enough and because of people like you it will coninue.
i tried 20 different roms so dont try to sell me that i can try onecosmic rom. the camera and other minor things not working correctly i am on cyanogen mod and i am ont happy with the camera and the battery life, tv out is not working and other minor bugs.
edit: not that i have any bad things to say about onecosmic and cm7 developers i know it is not their fault, they dont have the drivers. so thanks to all the developers out there for their best efforts.

To be honest i'd be happy with a good Gingerbread (stock), I don't think it's been as good as the last Froyo 2.2.1 update, which suddenly made the phone work properly.
I think its a shame that there isn't at least a two year life span (a lot of phone contracts are 24 months) in terms of updates, but I also understand this technology is probably one of the fastest moving.

Samsung didn't design ALL components in the SGS, they have bought many from THIRD party (like audio part from Wolfson, etc. etc.). You have open source drivers for SOME devices and many of chip-makers sell Chips + Closed drivers with limited support. It's not the Samsung's fault if they don't want release drivers, Samsung use only BINARY drivers for some devices ! Blame some *****ng chip-maker firms. I used to fight a lot with Adaptec to have some source code to make working some $500 Hardware Raid card for FreeBSD some years ago, many chip-maker are VERY reluctant to give drivers code, and it's not a new story in Linux world.
Windows and Intel will make better ? Are you serious or just blind ? Why Vista was so "unstable" in his debut ? Drivers, Drivers and Drivers.. like Android. iOS ? Another joke ? Apple use ONE hardware and chip-makers are forced to give the code (or they're excluded from Apple, so they give all Apple want), iPhone is a very well sell and Apple is one of the richest firm in the world, chip-makers aren't totally stupid if they want to sell million and million of their chips.
And for your information : First ROM for SGS are build in March 2010, latest is Dec 2011, what a poor support..
I can see Samsung absolutely ****ting themselves reading the op. Dumb thread.

This is, IMHO, the main Android drawback.
Android is not really "open". It's a marketing hype.
Producers like Samsung make heavy "modifications" to their phones and do not relase their drivers.
We're lucky that SGS has an hardware similar to the Nexus S, otherwise I doubt we could have a stable ICS porting for our phone.
My next phone, if I'll chose again Android, will be a Google Experience One.

Not intend to troll or anything but I read this and remember the days I paid 450 euros for my optimus 3d waiting for a proper support from LG and as I read I realize this LG had done nothing beside the 24/7 hour spamming on their facebook profile and support pages by hundreds of customers. The 4x has a great price/performance ratio but LG software is just blowing it. They were hated that they were late and ****ty with every android update so far and when they finaly got nice stable ICS they locked the bootloader, what the f uck LG (btw I still dont have it on my phone, and it was announced for q3 2012 ). So, dont get your hopes high and happy spamming.

They can give update everyday for my part but for me I love Android bcz a community and developers can get their hands on and customize it more so I don't get it why they dont just let developers do their thing bcz they bring more live in the phone and they make that phone even more better and they can also earn something from it so imo everybody wins. But probably is bcz of patents and stuff and technology or software that need to be protected and kept secret I guess. I really hope I see custom roms for this phone bcz I sold my One X bcz I love the design of LG over any phone wright now except the Arc but that phone is old already
The whole spirit of Android and Linux is to be open source and customizable. Also most of the developers must have something to start from (except cyanogen, they are starting from scratch) to begin developing. It is almost impossible to build your own ICS ROM without having LG's or Cyanogen already ported. That is why the updates from LG are necessary.
Unlocked bootloader
Seriously, my GF has this phone and it eats battery amazingly fast. She's been pestering me to install Cyanogenmod on her 4X (she had it on her Galaxy S1) but I'm finding it hard to explain to her why there's no Cyanogenmod for the 4X yet...

Else very happy with the device, here in Denmark it is the cheapest tegra 3 phone, but imo also the best, had the one x before, this is much better to use in one hand.
Agree with the ability to use this with one hand. I also find I can type much faster too.

One X is significantly wider than the O4X, making HTC's phone a bit harder to use one-handed.
Open doesn't mean you can do everything you want!

Again the term "open" is wrongly understood.
Android is indeed "open". It's open to manufacturers, NOT open to end-users!
Manufacturers can customize it, add or substract software and even modify it. But you (and me) as end-users may NOT!
Sure if we hack it then we CAN. But that doesn't mean that LG, or anyone else for that matter, likes it.
There's also a flipside: What if you mess up your device?
Then who's gonna fix it? LG? The store where you bought it? The telco? And provided they find someone who will fix it, must it be under warranty?
By locking the device down they revoke their warranty and put the responsibility on you. You hacked it, you broke it, you messed up, you gonna pay to repair it!
Don't get me wrong. I applaud the efforts done by the end-user community to improve devices. Especially when many manufacturers don't take their responsability to fix some o/t problems they created. But we must understand what "open" really mean. We can't complain to LG, HTC, Sony or Samsung for not letting us do this. In fact I don't understand why this community work closer with manufacturers. Help them solve some of their problems.
For instance has the creator of the LG Notification program contacted LG about this and perhaps pursue them to use that program as a solution to the notification problem on LG-devices? The program is free anyway, so why not ask LG to implement it in every device. Or even improve it too. That way we don't need to hack/root our devices for such trivial things as LG itself can distribute the tool as an update for ALL customers (not just the xda-members).
Just my thought on the matter.
LG published their update plan for Jelly Bean.
http://www.lgnewsroom.co.kr/contents/12971
And yes... no word about 4X
If 4X don't get Jelly Bean, it will be my first and last LG phone
I really don't know what to do. Sell my LG? But for the money I'll get, there is no much alternative devices with similar features that I can buy now...
But stay for next 2-3 years with ICS on 4X is no option either. Hardware is ok, but maybe android 4.3 will have really cool features and we will never get it on our devices. It's really frustrating.

IF lg unlocks the bootloader for us, that will not be a problem.
IF lg keeps the bootloader locked and then shows a crappy update plan with no ICS/android 4.3 i will buy a new phone and give this to my friend or something....
Well it this is the case that we will not got JB or more updates, iam gonna get bored in some point... then a new phone or superduper htc HD2 back, and this one starts acting as a bar phone
The reputation of LG was already below zero after they leaved 2X die. Normally, nobody should buy their phones after they do same thing with 4X.. They really should think long time about their crappy marketing strategy.

This has to be an over site. I just got mine so i'm okay with it for now (that will last a couple weeks, lol).
With the Optimus LTE II getting it, it would make no since that we won't.
Just unlock the bootlaoder and XDA will take care of the rest.
LG 4x?

Yeah, there's no mentioning of the 4X. And that's because it is a korean update plan. As far as I know there is no 4X in korea, so nothing to update. With the LTEII getting JB i'm pretty positive that the 4X will be the next one, at least in Europe.

I can't see them announcing a 4X JB update in Europe before the new flagship Optimus G is released. They'll be eating into their own sales by promoting an older device.
Be patient, I'm sure the 4X is further down the schedule

Imo i dont mind not getting JB on my 4x. See guys, ics will still be the majority of the android system and app support for it wouldnt disappear until quite sometime later.
And even by the time ics is really becoming obsolete how old do you think your phone will be? There will be new hardware by then or anyone on the general market wouldnt be even using the phone anymore by then.
I'm speaking as a general user who treats a phone more as a personalised, friendly thing more than using it for technology development. I think LG is really doing a good job. How my phone now (ics) is fine. I dont really care about not getting JB on this device.
Looking outside of developers circle, i think majority of smartphone users are still those that has little interest in catching up with technology, and has the same purpose of phone as me, using it as a connection, entertainment, tool.
My 2 cents.
Ps i had used samsung android phone before.
Edit. Enjoy more of your time now. Sometimes certain good things are already what you have now. Just forget about not getting the update for a while and take a brand new look into the beauty.

I currently have an HTC Desire S which I have rooted and booted over and over again, from GB all the way up to Jelly-Bean and back again. I have placed an order for my 4X HD and am collecting it on Saturday. I don't really care if it gets upgrades to JB or beyond - this time I want a fast, nice phone which I can just use - this is why I have gone for this rather than other phones. I will keep my DS for playing with and to get my kicks from when I feel the need to play around. I'm quite sure that LG will provide us with upgrades for a while, but as long as I have a fairly vanilla ICS I will be a happy bunny.

We all hope so. But until now we have only this info where 4X is not mentioned.
What has LG from half year old device with locked bootloader? Can someone explain this behavior? I mean, we all know that using unlock tool will void the warranty and only experienced users will do this. Why not let them do what they want?
This is LG Korea they do not have the Optimus 4X in their country, therefore completely ignore this. xD
