Hello,
Which one has longer battery life? From what I read, Chronos Froyo has longer battery life and also it's more responsive? Why is that?
Can CM6 use the same code as Chronos Froyo for speed and bat life?
I think it depends on overclocking.

I use HO!NO ROM for the CM6 and this weekend i realized that i was 22h without recharge it and was with 80% Battery. No profile set.. no Set CPU... Mobile Data 100% ON!!
I simply can´t understand, why every one has different battery life on same ROM. I know it depends on usage etc. but I´ve heard that HO!NO has huge battery drain
Battery performance is based on how one sets up his phone, overclocking, wifi / 3g usage, media usage etc. But on the same setup , cronos wins.
Ye, why Chronos is better? Isn't base on CM6 too? Or it has it's own modified kernel that's why it's better? Is bat life base on Kernel?

This is based on what exact versions being compared?
I have now tried Cronos for the sake of everyone prasing battery life. I compared every ROM over at least 3 days use and i can say there are no big ddifferences as far as battery life goes between CM 22.11. Froyo 2.0.1 or Cronos 1.6 update1. There is some fluctuation, but nothing too aperent.
Older versions had quite some battery problems, that holds for all ROMs, but now only abaut 20-30% less battery for me on these Froyo ROMs, than on eclair ROMs i had before. For first Froyo ROMs it was like 50% less...
Well, the CM6 on the actual build (0.04) is imho far the best concernig battery-life.
Just a little less good than on SHOLS_U2_36.0 by G.O.T.
Before it was probably Cronos, but nowadays the difference is down to the voltage selected. On Cronos this is lower, so out of the box it should take up less power. However, clock for clock it should essentially the same. The rapid releases of CM6 takes the cake for me
I tried both Cronos 1.6.1 and CM6 25/11, I noticed no great difference.. just a feeling, Cronos runs more smooth at same clock, but they are almost the same!
Sent from my Milestone using XDA App
In my personal experience, Cronos 1.6.1 is currently the best ROM both in terms of battery life and responsivity/relayability. With everything enabled (3G, wireless location service, gmail sync) , is the only ROM that can give me 18 hours plus of battery.

Exactly. I believe both hit battery life with the same tweaks. Then it comes down to the voltage and clock speeds. CM6 should last plenty long too.
Pretty much identical battery life. I use my phone quite heavily so never get more then about 16-18hours. Maybe in long haul there is a difference but not with a well used device.

this. although i haven't updated yet to the latest CM6. my phone once lasts from 2.5-3 days, with minimal mp3 listening and harcore wifi usage.
before the upgrade to cronos 1.6.1 (best froyo to customize) i was using telusV5...
eclair could last even 50 hours without recharge.
froyo is 25 hours at its best.
i use H data always on, gps on, latitude, whatsapp, wireless almost never, i make lots of calls, i read news, play games like angry birds or asphalt5 few minutes.
i tried every combo of mhz and vsel from 1100 74, to 700 46...no significant difference, battery lasts always 24-26 hours.
I use c.m. roms, from about the 10th of november or something,c.m. roms last about twice as much as my stock eclair did,i'm sorry to say that, but if nadlabak didnt exist, cronos wouldnt exist, feeyo is waiting each time for nadlabak to solve each problem and then he will release his own rom.
Whenever nadlabak doesnt publish his work, cronos is stuck...
Nice guy maybe feeyo, but not milestone expert...
I prefer the original thing, wich is more superior in my opinion...

Right but are you comparing it against a tweaked Froyo?
I used STOCK Telus 2.1 back in the day with the Overclock mod at 1000mhz/60vsel.
I used to push email from 8am to 6pm everyday at work. I had terrible reception at work so I would use 2G a lot during the day, but I would always have 30% AT LEAST by bedtime. I go to work at 8:30am and sleep around 12am.
Now I work at a different place, but I got into work at 11am today and left at 6pm. I took a break in the middle to get lunch, but since I work underground, I turn on airplane mode the whole time. It's now midnight (13 hrs since unplugging) and I'm at 40%. I'd say that if I had 50% of my time on airplane mode that's pretty bad. Other than that the other 6 hrs that I was out int he open I got decent reception. I just pushed gmail, sycned Facebook/Twitter hourly and weather every 3 hrs. Not too bad in terms of heavy use. Also I have the 2G toggle on. I just don't see how I'm draining battery this fast.
So in my case Eclair completely dominates. With HONO or TelusLite mod I probably got a little better battery life throughout the day. I dunno. I only had 1 month of work or so during the summer of using those ROMs before I quit and I stopped pushing exchange mail all day long.
You forget something battery gets worse over time. I had very good batery life on Eclair. Now i use Froyo for quite some while at begining veery bad battery life. Now latest releases quite better, but still not there so i went to try Eclair again for a bit and i found out even eclair doesnt have the battery life for me it used to have, battery is just old and its only half a year since i bought. But take this i charge it everydays ometimes more so in half a year a charged it around 200 times. 300times is the number i think battery gets quite worse.
Maybe one of you battery hawks can help me figure out what the major problem I'm having is.
I see people saying they get 24+ hours on a single charge, yet I have a difficult time maintaining 12 hours with minimal usage.
My provider (Bell Canada) does not have a 2G network I can fall back on, so that's one thing that could be causing major drain.
I am using SuperPower (but haven't noticed any major difference there), SetCPU to set processor to 250 when screen is on, 15sec before screen off, wifi off, GPS off, background data off when screen is off, auto-sync off, and data scheduled to be on for 5 minutes every hour.
I use my phone when I commute to check emails, play Angry Birds, and the like, and generally overclock to 700 or 800 Mhz, with 48 or 50 vsel depending.
Using my phone to play a game, check email, or surf the web for 10 minutes can cause it to drop 10-20%, and even when it's totally turned off overnight, if it's not plugged in it can drop to 20% or lower from a full charge just sitting on my end table.
Any suggestions/ideas?
EDIT: I wanted to add that I tend to use the most up to date CM mod, but have been trying Cronos since the battery life was touted so highly. Unfortunately, I find that Cronos drains the battery slightly faster than the 11.25 mod did. Testing the 11.29 version of CM6 currently.
Hello fellow Galaxy owners,
I have been installing various custom ROM´s for about 2 months now, so I guess you could still call me a beginner. Recently it has been difficult to keep up with all the latest and greatest advances in kernels and ROM´s. Being a father I don´t have as much time as I used to, to read through the mountain of information on the forums.
It is for this reason that I ask for some simple advice. I have found that Hamster, Instanity and DocRom ROM´s are all very fine pieces of work and they are blisteringly fast. The GPS is fast, the themes are epic but alas the battery life is pretty bad (well for me at least).
I must admit thought that I am obsessed with my phone and I use it constantly to read the news, check emails and stream internet radio while I am driving in my car on a daily basis.
I currently have DocRom slim V3 installed after having done a complete fresh installation. But despite being fast it seems to be very hungry on the power consumption.
Do I need to cycle it through some complete battery discharge cycles and fully charge it, then reset the battery stats in CWM recovery? Does it need some days to settle? Or should I flash different Kernels and see which one gives me the best life? If the latter then which kernel do you recommend for JPU?
Thanks in advance!
Same here
With 3g my I9000 die after 10 hours!
With 2g die after 14 hours!
With data network mode deactivated die after 30 hours!
I don't know if changing baseband or kernel will help or not!
BR
I'm having pretty good battery life without any network and LiveWallpapers turned off... just simple black screen it stayed ON for 4 days with some WiFi surfing, PDF reading and music listening player/online radio. So I guess network is draining the most.
DocRom V6.2
I just installed Doc´s ROM v6.2, and it has greatly increased my battery life.

Great to hear this!
I don't know if this is your case, I used to have the beautiful widgets weather widget on my home screen, and after soem time I realized this app was constantly refreshing and consuming LOTS of battery.
If you have it, removing it will increase your battery life too.
I have same problem,i do have the beautiful weather widget installed and think it looks nice on home screen, maybe this is the batt killer??
What other programs does the same? I like the watch and weather widget to be shown..?
Can anyone tell me what is the best ROM for battery life? Or best Kernal/Modem combo?
I dont mind a stripped down ROM.. dont use many features!
I've tried many ROMs life Darky Resurrection 10.2/Simplicity 0.31/Surface 3.1 & 3.2/Juicy 3.0 etc etc. but cant settle on one...
Battery lasts 18hours max.. (some calls/wifi use/fruit ninja for max 30 mins~1 hr)
Have tried recalibrating my battery too..
Currently on Surface 3.2 with Speedmod T24 kernal
thanks

If you prefer Samsung roms, try Milkeys, very good battery life.
CM/Miui , actual Twooey III (Galnet) ist good, pure english actual version also really good battery life.

These threads are worthless. Each users battery usage is going to be COMPLETELY different. It all boils down to your configuration, personal usage, Wi-Fi usage, GPS usage, apps installed, Your settings, what you allow to run in the background, and hundreds of other variables. Plus there are about 62 threads in the forums asking this same exact question with at least 5xs as many different answers.
Anyways. Cm7 is what I use and get about a day and a half if I need to.
Bottom line, no 1 rom is any more spectacular over another one when it comes to battery. Find one you like and take steps to get your battery and usage in sync.

I have tried many many ROMs and cant figure it out.. sometimes suggestions help
My Wi-Fi usage is more, but dont use GPS much, No autosync or Data.. No autobrightness (keep it to a minimum), I try and disable autostarts of almost all apps
edit due to post being moved to its rightful place
Insanity cm032/platypus neo9 redux 5
My Bad.. someone pls move the thread to Q/A
Darky 10.1 + Semaphore 1.4.2 kernel are the best combination I've had so far.
also remember to do "Clear data" of "Media Storage" from "Settings->Applications->Manage Applications" after flashing any kernel or ROM. (to avoid system_server bug that waste CPU)
Surface JVQ
I have observed Surface JVQ goes well for battery life, try that.
Lets say battery life with just wifi always on and which rom last longer? 2days or more??
Best Battery life .. I'd Say FROYO. !
dont wana move back to Froyo.... let stick to Gingerbread
Darky's 10.2 RE here on JVQ, try replacing XXJVO modem with ZSJPG modem, I flashed it a week or so ago after awful battery life & I'm getting easily 2-3 days on same usage as you, you'll want to keep an eye on your 3G, coverage & GPS if you use it just to make sure signal strength in your location is as good as before though.

My way to best batteries life is Juwe 5.1 jvq rom + Galaxian Kernel EE. Normal using ( callin, summary more than 3 hours, gaming 3-4 hours, sms, www 2-3 h) on one charging. Finnaly phone was active more than 40h.
The best solution:
1.Rom with dark colours theme, less colours less battery drain.
2.Proper kernel like Galaxian or Talon
3.Proper charging , bumpy charging method.
that's all
Moved to the ZSJPG modem, SpeedMod t24 kernal, a lighter ROM (Surface 3.2).. can already feel the difference!!!
Galaxian kernel seems to be juicing less batt source as compare to semaphore

Juwe's Smart Edition v5.3 XXJVR best battery life for me so far.
75% of Battery free after 18+ hours of use [10-12 calls/books 20+mins/wifi full time/video15+mins]
JUWE"S 5.2 JVQ + Talon 4.4.20-1200 + RFS + 119 sys apps + 60 user apps
I have a pic attached. Check this link
EMulator like gameboid, FPSE or android games like zenonia, destinia and inotia
emulators i guess
3g network and DSP manager
3D games, I guess.
And Wi-Fi (especially connecting/disconnecting)
hi i am always here people moaning about battery but im on gdx v019 now since last night and in 24hours i have used 47% wifi, gps on all the time i play some games but not much and since gdx v016 i get 2-3days battery.
if you wont a hand held games console with good battery try a sony psp as when i last checked the x8 was a mobile phone
All of the said actually take most battery up. Your launcher takes up battery to.
Android system uses battery (duh)
But wifi and 3g are the hoggers. They take up most of the battery
sent from my rooted x8 using gingerdx
x8 [email protected] ONDEMAND
with wifi (Never sleep policy) and 3.5G on - max 18h battery uptime (even 12h if I'm on the go and phone is switching from one cell tower to another frequently)
without wifi - kinda 1.5 days
Without wifi and in 2G only mode - almost 3 days (2d20h)...
The rom/kernel influence in the life or the battery? What is the best rom to time saving battery?
I'm thinking for a work use: read and write documents (Isilo, Documents to Go, Swype), internet (Gmail, Opera Mini, Maps, Barnacle Wifi, read news, etc). For me clearly the biggest battery drain is the 3G internet (according to BMW reaches 600 mAh, while Documents to Go does not exceed 200 mAh)
I am using v22 Froyobread with smartass, and the battery lasts me 20 hours. (I have a low screen brightness, wifi, bluetooth, GPS off). My question is mainly about the different roms, have several more efficient than others in the use of the battery? Do rom based in Gingerbread spend more than those based on Froyo? The union of a custom kernel and custom rom can be more efficient in the use of the battery?
Thanks and excuse my English

If you use 3G that's like talking with the phone continuosly. It can't be affected with anything.
In my case I think FroyoBread (or FroyoPRO for now) is the most battery friendly ROM with UV of course. With Wifi (never sleep) GPS on all the time it can last around 3 days. With GDX the maximum for me is around the same, but with GPS off and wifi off if phone is idle, and I think it is more smooth overall.
For the main question, the ROM can affect the battery life of the phone, bot so do the user. If you use live wallpaper, DSP manager, a lot of widgets, fancy launcher, it will eat your battery no matter what you do. The two is almost equal in my opinion, but I'm no developer to say that it's just my personal view.
Thanks for your answer. Only one question what is UV? Is it the Undervolt module?

if your talking about does the rom affect the battery, yes, the rom can affect the battery life, depending how heavy the rom is like gingerbread, that seem to take up most battery whilst froyo, well lats a lightweight android so it would save up more battery for not having to run more stuff on it unlike gingerbread...

Battery life tested by me:
Both cases same use, no WiFi, no 3g, only calls and sms:
GingerDX = 2 days
Froyobread = 6 days
Note: similar results on other roms based on CM, the main diference is between CM6(2.2) and CM7(2.3).
hi, currently i am on darky rom 10.4.2 xwjw1 rom... i have tried different modems on it.. i am happy with the rom but only problem is battery.. i am not happy with battery life.. will going to semaphore kernel will help battery life??? or give any other kernel or rom that gives me more battery life like upto 2 days... if performance degrades little than its ok with me.. is there any hack or scripts which will improve battery life??? battery juiced a lot when using 3G.. please help me guys... any good battery saving ICS rom will also do..
With Darkys i had the "best" battery with XXJVQ, Semaphore and turned off 3g. Just had a widget to toggle 3g quickly. That just saved 20% a day for me.
And i know thats not exactly that what you want but moving to ICS increased my battery life pretty much

thanks for replying.. but i use 3g internet and i do switched it off when not required.. and i am ready to move to ics rom... which ics rom are u using??? what combination gives best battery life??? also give links if possible...
Well, first of all, there applications that are supposted to increase battery life. For a few examples, you could try Juice Defender(my personal favourite) or Watchdog Task Manager. I personally did try some GB Darkys' rom, and I wouldn't recommend it. The battery life was terrible. I'm now running WeUI, an ICS rom. I also tried CM9, and it had a pretty good battery life, but it's not really what I would recommend you to use as a daily usage rom.
You might also want to check your screen brightness settings, I personally have mine set at "automatic".
Also I'm not that sure if semaphore has a good battery life. I heard that Icy Glitch has better, but I am still running semaphore 1.0.0.
Let me know if those apps make any difference!
Back in the day when i was a darky user, i also tried semaphore and hat good results with it, 2days or more were common. I used BUJV3 modem mostly. But generally I had 2g running. The battery life always drops a lot when you constantly turn 3g on. Btw moving to ics reduced my battery life, I charge every night (sometimes earlyer).
i have juice defender... also i turn off the 3g when not required... and i have set the brightness to minimum.. but still i want to conserve more battery... can any one give me the kernel which uses lowest battery without much performance lag??? any ROM??? any good ICS ROM with good battery???
you can undervolt..

I was using an app called SuperPower XDA-BETA v0.80, that can be found on market.
As for me it's the best app for customising power usage, a bit tricky, and rot needed for most features, but I was finally able to prolong my battery life to 2,5 days.
i don't think so apps can save much battery as it will switch of the radio services which i am already making off when not required.. i am talking about battery Hacks or Kernel or ROM which will give extra battery power???
]Dude you want to use 3G too and still want battery life of upto 2 days !!! quite a dream...
anyways few things you can try on.. these are not hacks just tips
- remove any widgets on your homescreen
- turn off autosync
- don't use any constantly updating apps like weather, clock widget etc
- turn off auto rotate (read in some thread this as a tip too)
- don't use automatic task managers
- don't use any battery saver, turn off the data manually when not using everytime
- don't use live wallpaper and try to use some dark background image preferably black
- use some black and white theme
- remove/ freeze as many system applications as possible which don't affect your normal functioning and the apps that you don't use
