error while updating via kies - Galaxy S I9000 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

yesterday i bought galaxy s from Egypt it has android 2.2.1 Froyo when i connected it to kies it says his device cannot be updated i installed Kies2.0 Registry Patcher v.1.8.0.0 now it says there is new update when i click update and it download firmware upgrade components it says again this device cannot be updated

Never liked Kies, it won't even identify my phone, tried every driver, it just hung with "device manager" error or something similar.

so there is no fix for this??

Egypt.....

Maybe there is no update yet available for your phone.
You should wait or flash a new firmware via Odin (Thats what I did because Kies was a pain in the butt)

wut is the difference between the official firmware updated by kies and the rom installed by odin ??

on samfirmware i found 3 .pit files which one shud i use??
Galaxy S / .PIT File: DOWNLOAD. (512)
Galaxy S / .PIT File: DOWNLOAD. (513)
Galaxy S / .PIT File: DOWNLOAD. (803)

nvm i got it

I always use the 512.pit
Difference between Odin and Kies: with Odin you can nearly flash everything, with Kies just official Samsung-ROMs.

so wuts better?? rom from samfirmware or the official rom by kies??

Hm, there is nearly no difference between official 2.3.3 and inofficial 2.3.4. If you like flashing, flash 2.3.4, if not --> 2.3.3 with Kies.

The only tolerable usage of Kies for me has been just for the USB drivers on the computer. Always using the ODIn version of the firmware, I can't say for sure but theres no difference in the firmware updated through Kies and ODIN (u can download them from samfirmware.com), but installation through ODIN has always been fast, error free and neat.

Use the 512 pit.

Use the pit file that corresponds to the firmware, they are all shown I think ....nearly always 512 but there are exceptions

[Q] flashed with odin, now i want to update the firmware with kies

this is my first thread on xda,
i just have a few questions please answer me if you know bout it.
I bought i9000 from uk which was Orange UK branded. I flashed it to jm5
and now i want to update the firmware to Froyo. However Kies says i have no
update available (which i think its because i flashed with odin)
so heres my questions.
1. i hear if i update it with KIES Registry Hack, i will have wrong IMEI. How can i make my KIES to update my phone to froyo (or at least make it give me any updates) without breaking my IMEI and other things??
2. is there any way i can restore my original firmware which is Orange UK branded?
3. what is the Latest official firmware that's out in UK or in europe?
Why don't you flash froyo then?
I tried i way with the new kies.
I flashed the oldest firmware i could find and it the used the new kies and it did find an update to the latest froyo.
This didn't work before for me.

It worked for me. I did look at samfirmware.com for the oldest firmware. Download it and flashed with odin.
Then kies did think it was so old so i needed froyo. Lol

I have one more question, I am currently using xwjm9 and I got xxje2 for the oldest firmware but I couldn't downgrade it. I guess its because there's only Code file (no csc and modem). is that why I can't downgrade? What should I do? Thank you.

You need a full firmware.
You also need to use pit 512 and use re-partition ticked.
Then wipe the cache and great the internal card and do a factory reset.
That's makevthe phone clean and kies should now upgrade without problem.

Thank you for your help, but. ughh it doesn't work somehow. is it because
i'm trying to update the phone from uk in canada?

[Q] Flashing for first time

Hi I bought a galaxy s from e-bay locked on T-Mobile and have unlocked it. Presently it is on Éclair 2.1-update 1, when I tried to update its firmware via kies I got, this version of the device cannot be update.
Firmware version:-
PDA: I9000XXJF4
PHONE: I9000XXJF3
CSC: I9000TMUJE6
So I made some home work and now I know I have to flash a new firmware via odin but I have some questions cause the more I read the more I get confused.
Where can I get the latest stock firmware for flashing?
Do I need to flash PDA, PHONE, CSC and PIT (is it the PIT512 the right PIT for this modle?).
Do I need to change the boot loader?
Do I need to save anything other than phone numbers?
Am I missing anything else or am I good to go?
Many thanks for your help.
latest firmware : www.samfirmware.com - along with tutorials
some firmwares come in 3 files (pda, phone, csc) some come in 1 file (.tar)
Only use PIT with a firmware that has all 3 files. (512PIT is most common)
no need to change boot loader
you may want to back up your apps as THEY WILL be deleted.
other than that, you are good to go

i have never used kernel flasher, nor am i familiar with the captivate so i do not want to give you false information.
i recommend you flash a kernel thru odin, but firstly check in the kernel's thread to see what the instructions are.
some kernels require different flashing methods
I dont use it too, I always flash the JPU then Speedmod and I have access to CWM, then i flashing customs , btw on samfirmware you have tutorial how to flash rom with odin,
Thanks guys

[Q] Help me please. 2.2

Okey, first of all, I'm a complete noob when it comes to this, so I need some help.
After long browsing I was able to root my Samsung Galaxy.
Now I want to update my Galaxy from 2.2 to Gingerbread.
Since I rooted my Galaxy it won't connect to Kies anymore, so I guess Kies won't work.
I have an Samsung Galaxy S I9000,
FROXO.XWJPA,
Kernel Version 2.6.32.9
Is it possible to update, if yes, how?
Thanks
anyone? :l

Download a FW from Samfirmware, the latest is I9000XXJVR (Its 2.3.4), then via Odin you flash a 3 file's, its CODE, MODEM and CSC, and pit file and tick re-partition
Xooley,
I'm new on the forums so cant post any links but if you search for "how to use Odin" then it's really not that difficult.
The biggest decision you have is whether to stick with a "stock" copy of firmware i.e released by the manufacturer or install one of the modded versions from the hard working developers on XDA.
if you have a rooted phone then this wouldn't normally prevent KIES from working, so it might be that your carrier (orange?) hasn't release a Gingerbread version yet.
You can get most stock roms from samfirmwares as stated above. If you've never installed a rom before, make sure you read about it (checked youtube) to see if there are any problems with the one that you have chosen.
best of luck

now i need to flash it with stock rom for gingerbread in India
edit 1: It had p1000ddjm2
edit 2: Multiupload is dead so all links are too
edit 3: DDJPA You can download it from http://db.tt/E5bdK66R
edit 4: due to generating excessive traffic dropbox has disabled my public links. post your mail ids if you want it i will add it to shared dropbox folder
Same problem here.
Anybody please help.
TIA

CHECK, you will get your 'p1000ddjm2', flash with 'Odin', try rooting and change to Indian CSC (search..!) and Kies should update automatically...
Samsung galaxy tab 7" in India gets Gingerbread.
after installing DDJM2 kies goes into connecting loop
new firmware DDJPA 2.3.3 has to be manually flashed

Does your phone get recognized by Kies you should be able to do it
Only if you have flashed another rom do you have to do it manually
First know how to use odin.

yeah have used odin before. my problem was exactly the same as yours. after using overcome for a while, used odin to get back to DDJM2. but after that kies wont recognise my tab anymore and enters connecting loop.
the flash files were exactly what i needed. thanks a lot

there's another thing I need to know before i flash. it looks like the modem.bin and CSC files are contained in a single file in the DDJPA flash file you posted above. does this mean i do not need to specify the 'CSC' and 'phone' files in ODIN? I mean, specifying only the 'PDA' file on ODIN will be sufficient, right?

if you have rooted your device you have probably made your warranty void.
if you know how to use Odin i would recommend you to flash 2.3.3 DDJPA manually

Observations : NFS Shift does not work..the screen goes off after EA logo..
The RAM utilized is always more than 300MB even in Flight mode,..(using ADW launcher) Even if try to kill running apps, the max i get is 290 MB utilized RAM..
E-book and Daily Briefing - Missing !!
I updated the firmware with odin 1.7.
But later i found "E-book" and "Daily Briefing" go missing !!
Additionally i see "Music Hub" added in the menu.
Can anyone confirm if the missing apps are absent in firmware or just in my tab as i flashed it over "DXJPI" and didn't flash/reset the device to retain the data.

any fix for this ???

@hex007
can u confirm if you have Audio/Video support in GTalk or not !
It was not that easy for me. The device was originally from Arab region on which i had managed to load Indian ROM.
GB loaded and Odin gave pass, but again went back to download mode. On a hunch i tried using the old CSC and Modem file and voila it restarted. But then went and got stuck with invalid certificate. Cleared up the cache and hurrah! restarted to Indian GB
Many thanks for the ROM file.
