Hi amigos:
I been searching around and I cant find a solution for this annoying thing .
If I connect to my 3G usign my kaiser for more than 10 minutes, the phone is getting extremly warm. I try to put the back light low but doesnt help. I'm usign Dutty 29 apr. Rom and radio version is 1.58.21.23 and I'm in Denmark.
Is your battery draining fast?
Get a battery meter and test that because I had a TyTN that did that...
same here original rom wm6.1 NL

If I where you I would try a diffrent radio and check what aps you are running in background/prosseses. I often use my kaiser as an wifi router and I dont think you gets close to as warm as mine streaming and charging at the same time I abuse it so hard it resets itself, now thats hot hehe. Anyway, some radio are battery monsters for me, its just about to find the best one for youreself.
I have good experience with: 1.58.25.17 in Norway, havent tried it whit duttys.
If not you can try 1.65.14.06 and 1.65.17.10 wich dutty included whit the release.
To 2007HHR: Yes the baterry draining fast that is the worst part. what is the purpose for use a battery meter? Its going to solve my battery problem?
Raiisak I will try another radio, hope it will help me, I never experience a phone that will become warm after using it for a long time. Really annoying

i only experienced this one time when i had my gps turned on for half an hour and my phone turned into a hot potato and battery went from 95 to 15 percent.
u have to realize though that the tilt is sorta like a mini laptop and it will start getting warm after some time unless u give it some rest.
Well I never experience something like it in a windows mobile before, I will be really interesting to know if this is a hardware failure. Have you guys experience something like this in other htc phones?

Unfortunately this is almost unavoidable with lithium batteries. My HTC TyTN II battery gets hot while charging, and even hotter if phone is being used (voice or data). It gets hot to the point that the battery stops charging (at least they have thermal control circuits, it could explode otherwise, lithium batteries do not like the heat).
The same happened with my previous phone, from e-ten. A battery got very hot and damaged while talking for a long time. I have used my devices mostly as a PDA, for reading or playing music, but as soon as phone radio is on, it starts getting very hot.
Hi Vcespon:
THis is horrible, I can't belive with a advance phone like kaiser something like this happen. Is there any firmware that might fix this, otherwise I will thinking to change this phone, this is unacceptable.

That's not normal. If it is the case your most likely have a hardware problem. Same to the OP.
Mine also got warm and was emptying the battery in a couple of hours once the radio broke down.
Other than this, the only cases where the phone will get really hot is when using WMWifirouter to route the 3G connection to WLAN and downloading a lot. Both the 3G and WiFi radios being on and working hard, plus the processor doing the routing uses a tremendous amount of power. But the device wasn't meant to be used that way anyway.
The GPS also uses quite a bit of power so if you have that on on you might want to try turning it off.
When just talking on the phone the device should get a little warm but no more.
The battery meter would show how much of your battery is being drained when idle... mainly shut down all applications and see what the reading is and that would give you an idea if the device is defective.
I can tell ya, mine gets HOT. I sent the first one back because I thought it was defective. Also with a couple different roms it makes no difference. If your using 3G, BT, GPS, or any combination of those, that SOB will get hot. If I'm charging at the same time, it gets so hot it shuts the charging proccess down. I have to hold it over a AC vent to cool it back down.
Over all though, the only complaint I have with the phone is the heat and battery drain issue.
dead phone or dead battery
Do not know if this where to post. But my TyTn stopped charging. The phone is completly dead. Right now I'm on vacation in a remote location with out any access to the local AT&T to get a battery quick. But the problem is that the battery is not taking a charge. The red charge light is not on or anything. I left the phone on the charger for two days and nights with no results. I ordered a battery but will not have it untill I get home in another week. I have Dutty's 6.1 5.2.19199 UC Compliant ROM on the phone and I've been using it for about 10 days now. Everything was working fine. The phone was getting warm during GPS useage and when charging. Right now I hope that its just the battery. But in case its not, I need to know what my options are. Is the phone dead? What other measures are there to bring it back to life? Thanks in advance.
I can say from my experience with a tytn and now a tytnII when you use them rigorously , they will get hot. I guess the real question is how hot is it really getting and what is running on the phone. Is it uncomfortable to hold?
On EDGE data with FlexMail and IM+ online, the phone stays ice cold. On HSDPA the same, it gets slightly warm. When talking on the phone with HSDPA, it gets a bit warmer.
When using GPS+iGO8 or TomTom, it gets rather warm. Add charging and it gets pretty hot. I've seen batterystatus show as high as 42C using internal GPS+iGO8+Charging.
Gets hot + doesn't charge from laptop
I've got a similar problem - Kaiser may get hot when being used as a modem and/or charging...., well I've actually had this going on from time to time and wasn't much concerned about it until now: the battery doesn't charge when connected to my laptop - ActiveSync or modem, the amber light doesn't come on, plus drains fast.
The Kaiser(so the battery) is only 3 mths old (although I use it heavily as a modem) and I guess it's unlikely that changing the battery will help here...
My kaiser gets warm too.. I guess it's because I'm hot.
Never mind
HR fixed it...
You also have to remember that these things have a 400mhz processor in them without any fan. Now when your using that processor to the fullest, it IS going to get warm. This is what your going to get from any high performance electronic item without a cooling fan. It's not unacceptable, it's the way it is. 3G, bluetooth, and WiFi can be very processor intensive depending on use, imagine all 3 on at the same time, not to mention the added heat from rapid battery discharge (which is unavoidable when using the radio).
The designers of the phone are no idiots, they designed systems that shut the phone off if it's going to get damaged. So if your worried about the heat cause it's uncomfortable, don't work the sucker so hard! ;-)
Hi to all and thanks for the replies;
My theory is that if you buy an expensive phone you need to exploit until the limit. I bought the kaiser because is a phone that can give me almost any kind of connection and I can be connect online almost everywhere. I can't stand that If I use the 3G connection for 10 minutes the phones gets so warm. I use battery status too and the temperature is like 42F after I use the phone for 10 minutes.
My phone suddenly just shuts down when I'm using it... not a "powering off" but just out of nowhere turns off
Anyone know what the problem might be?
I've had this same issue before, so I bought a new battery last month and it worked great until just last week...
I've tried resetting the battery stats....nothing....
The battery still fully charges and shows the correct percentage when I plug in the charger to use...
Could it be the ROM or battery issue?
....I'm currently using cannon's rom... 2.2.1
Anyone know how to fix?..... thanks

Well if you have a new battery already. And it shows its good. I think it might be the rom then.

Something to take note, What are you doing when it does this?
-Surfing net on the phone
-Listening to music
-Charging
-Tethering
Keeping in mind that the phone will shut its self down (it should) if your battery starts to over heat. On my Hero the charge light flashes before it shuts down and it gets really hot to the touch. Also at higher heat temps, overall battery life suffers.
my phones shuts down usually when wifi is on and im sirfing or using youtube app or google maps(every time i use wifi for a while this happens...)
it also shuts down rarely on calls and sometimes when im trying to flash a new rom...
it doesnt powers on until i connect it on AC...
I REALLY NEED HELP...
ps:if i change the battery will my problem been solved?

it turns off randomly...even when im just browsing through the home screens... a full charge will last me like 5 minutes max.... no matter what im doing an the battery doesnt overheat at all...
and when i plug it in to the charger, it shows the correct percentage.. well at least an estimate of what it could be (for about 5 min of use before shut down= 95%)
I have the same problem, It is extremely frustrating.
The shutdowns would happen randomly during surfing the net or using google maps. It would shut down out of no where and it would be impossible to turn back without being plugged into a charger since the phone thinks it battery is at 0 even it was just charged to full before the shutdown. I tried to calibrate the battery but it would just shut down while I'm trying to burn through the charge with the screen on. This is the such a nuisance, can't even get through one day.
I am using biffmod 1.8 so I don't know if this is a rom related problem.
I'm havuing the exact same problem. Even with a full battery, the pgone will shut down when I do anything more than a text or two here and there. When I put it on the charger I will still have a significant amount of power left. I've tried doing full wipes and changing roms. I think it might actually be related to the radio. This began after I updated the radio. It would get stck on formatting the cache. I tried going back to the old radio, but the problem has persisted.. and it also got stuck on formatting cache...
I hope someone can help with this bc it pretty much renders the phone useless when it's not being charged. =\
try change the battery...this solve my prob
you could try recalibrating the battery.
let your phone die.
plug it in for so long that you are 100% sure that it is full.
boot to recovery wipe battery stats.
boot normal
use it and let it die.
recharge again until its full BEFORE booting it.
if you sure its full boot normal.
if you follow this cycle some times it should be fine.
Only issue: you have to wait long until its full and you always have to be near an ac
i've tried re-callibration.. guess i will have to get another battery..
i don't think it's the battery though bc others with the same problem said that the problem persisted after getting a new battery.. =\ we'll see.. thanks for the replies.
I've had my Nexus 1 for almost a year now, but it was only after about 6 months I noticed my phone was rapidly heating up after using the 3G signal. It will raise about 5-10 degrees within minutes and you can really feel it getting warm. As soon as I stop using 3G the temperature dissipates rapidly. It never gets hot on wifi though.
So I ask, is this normal for smart phones these days? Or is something wrong?
Yeah smart phones get warm/hot when getting used. They're mini-computers now.
My N95 used to do it as well.
The best thing for temperature rises is using navigation; you have 3G, GPS, screen, sound constantly in use, and often plugged in.
I don't think the OP was talking about smartphone use in general. From what i can gather he's noticing a temperature rise from 3G use alone and that doesn't sound right.
Running a resource intensive app will of course heat the phone up through the cpu/soc usage, but from 3G itself...?
Perhaps a Task Manager app might give you a clue as to what's going on. Maybe switching to 3G is ramping up your cpu or perhaps some app is doing the same in the background.
i notice my phone gets very hot anytime i have a phone call on 3g, or a long data session on 3g. but yes its pretty normal to get warm.
but it is not normal if your phone is sitting idle on 3g and it gets hot. that's not normal.
I have checked recent apps, no apps are taking up much battery at all. Do you think its damaging? It does make me feel uneasy, but if it won't damage anything or do any harm I guess I can tolerate it until I decide to upgrade 12 months later maybe.
I'm in Australia and bought my phone from The States so I'm not really in a position to return under warrenty
its pretty normal
Since your Nexus one is almost a year old I would replace the battery and get a new original one. I have notice after 1.5 years they tent to overheat easy and get fat. My nexus one gets super hot when I use it for an hour while charging.
just last night, I was talking to my friends when I felt my phone heat up, I wasn't running anything differently, but it was almost as hot as when it's charging, I didn't know what to so, so I just took the battery out, and let cool down, then when I put it back in, the battery was down to 7% charge, I honestly can't remember what it had before, but at the very least, 20% quite possibly more.
I haven't charged it again because I don't want to fry my phone or anything, I was just wondering if it was safe to recharge again
at some point is normal for the phone to heat up... but what I can tell you is, when I had stock rom v10a it happens frequently, now I'm using cm7 and it doesn't feel as hot as before.... I really don't know if a rom related thing or the kernel [I'm using nova08 from knzo] but I do know that now is pretty rare to get the phone as hot to be affraid of

I might just be a bit paranoid, it's brand new, just about a month old, (first non-blockia) and it had never happened before
It mostly happens on Original ROMS .
It happens to me sometime to time , don't be paranoid , it wont fry your phone , but you should check what apps is running on your background , might be some process has been stuck and get into a loop .
I have downloaded Task killer , and once a hour i am killing apps. for last 2 month it haven't occurred so i think maybe Task killer kills this annoying stuck process .
Hello guys,
Recently my Moto X 2014 has been overheating like never did before, normal use with the phone, no charging makes the ENTIRE phone, screen and back go EXTREMELY HOT. It recently got updated with 22.121.1_victara...
I've also noticed a huge battery drain when this happens and somehow I lose all my carrier signal. I haven't noticed any program running in the background and this can only be fixed by rebooting the phone, leaving the phone on idle with wifi off won't even fix it, the temperature just gets higher and higher.
This really concerns me because such extremely high temperature can damage the battery and the phone's lifetime.
Thanks in Advance,
Diogo
Next time it happens put the phone in airplane mode. It sounds as if you are loosing signal and the phone is trying to regain signal at the cost of battery life and overheating. The same thing happens to me when I am in an area with absolutely no signal. I don't know what would be causing it (other than just insufficient signal), but this would help determine if this indeed is what is happening.
Putting it into flight mode doesn't help either. Leaving the phone on a table without touching it with airplane mode on still makes the temperature go higher, it doesn't stop. The only fix is rebooting.
Do you have it rooted? A stock restore would probably fix the issue.

Nope, just stock Android 5.0... (Still waiting for the 5.1 update )
Same problem here! I'm still in 4.4 and even of I look at the Battery stats I can't identify the reason of this battery drain!
