Please i need advaice - Nook Color General

hi i need a advice what is better Phiremod or CM7 thanks for you help.
Links Pros & Cons anyone helpme to decide.

I'd go with the CM7 nightlies considering as far as I'm aware, it's far advanced than Phiremod which is running basically outdated CM7.
I could be wrong, sorry to any Phiremod users.

I concur with Marino. While Phiremod is a wonderful THEMED CM7 - the latest nightlies combined with Dal's Latest Kernel and his Nook Color Tweaks app (on the market) bring a whole lot more to the table than the current version Phiremod.

i dont know what is the diferencies between nightly vs stable version of CM7 i dont undertood?

Nightly = unstable, but includes the latest and greatest improvements and fixes (and sometimes a new bug or two - but is is unstable after all)
Stable = Tested, tried, and true and mostly bug free

Although there can be bugs with nightlies, honestly, I've had few bugs if any.

It's like asking "Need help...Can't decide between a new Corvette, or a stolen Corvette from last year with some paint slapped on it.By the way, they're both free...".Shouldn't be too hard to decide....Phiremod IMO is the iPhone of Nook Roms.......Not a devs ROM, and most definitely outgunned by CM7 Nightlies...

[POLL]Wich's The Best Gingerbread ROM ?

XDAmembers, this is a poll for know wich rom is the faster
If you include Hobomod, which is based on Shadowmod, then include also Ho!no! and iceandfire which are based on CM7.
Also, you should remove the version numbers from the poll, as those are changing quite fast, and they are already outdated.
Add the missing stuff & I'm sure many people will find the poll useful.
Do include Cronos Gingerbread!
There is already a poll that is ongoing:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=953971
Thus it might be better to do another one 2-3 weeks from now, that more updates would come out!
ShadowMod without a doubt!

How do i change Poll options??? I'm bit noobish regarding forum stuff
I've been very pleased with Liquid Gingerbread v1.12.
ShoadowModb6 with newest kernel and 1000/550/250/125 overclock has been working great for me for a week now
I think HO!NO! mod is great.
But ALL of these ROMs can not play video on my Milestone. Any one seen this problem and how to resolve it?

I love the new rom from IceandFire [ROM-AOSP 2.3] iceandfire v1.0 (2011-2-20)
It´s fast and no resets, Love it !!!
CyagonMod7 is one of the best Gingerbread's I think. I like, but never tested the other.

I have been using only CM. However latest CM7 0.07 has memory issue. Phone lags after a day of moderate use, free RAM hardly reach over 35MB.
I'm waiting for CM7 to turn into a release candidate before I attempt to test it out...
Cyanogenmod 7 definitely!
I vote to Shadow! It's very smooth!
Does anyone know if ProjectEliite V5 is a full Gingerbread ROM, or does it use Froyo as it's base with bits and pieces of GB?

Most Stable rom?

Hello, I own a motorola milestone from telus, and have tried Cyanogen mod 7 and Miui. They werent bad but of course had errors which is expected. What is the best "Stable" rom out there for the milestone. Preferably froyo and higher! any suggestions for roms would be greatly appreciated
I would say that eybee's MIUI is quite good, it implemented kabaldan's DSI fix and other stuff. For Froyo, I recommend, FroyoMOD, an update is coming next week. For GB, I find Cronos and MIUI are quite stable.

Some changes on Cyanogen's Mod7 for Milestone on its RC10 version have made this rom one of the most stables among custom roms, besides, i really think that CM7 is more stable than stock firmwares
I went from stock 2.1 to iceandfire CM6/CM7. My experiences are very positive: performance and batterylife are much better than on stock and most of the kinks of the early cm7 builds have been worked out.
In fact its running so well, that i dont see the need to upgrade eventhough the hardware is aging quickly

I have just switched back to cyanogen mod 7 rc 10 the latest one, and so far, ive tested everything and its all snappier. I have v6 supercharger on as well which helps it as well. i am very pleased with this latest version.
Cyanogen 7.1.0 RC10 is very stable. So if you want Gingerbread qive it a try.
Otherwise, the most stable ROM out there I still believe its the official 2.1-update1 one.
cronosginger 1.4.0 most stable for me
When I ran CM7 on my Verizon Droid 1 I had a lot of problems with randomly not receiving text messages... I ended up switching it back to CM6.
Does this still happen on cm7? (yes I did check the button to lock the messaging app in memory...)
I had some problems w/CM7, screen went crazy, switched to Steel Droid and it's working great w/GB.

thanks for the input will give it some consideration, but for the meantime i have yet to have a FC or anything slowing down the phone on cyanogen mod 7 rc 10.
I went back to cronos 1.4 and it is very stable.
CM7 RC10 is one of the best i've tried fast, smooth ... that's all i need ^^ ... i like Miui too, but it still has many crashes with contacts with no aparent reasons ..

what crashes with contacts ? .. do u have the latest version eybee's version ?
I think stability wise they are all good. The latest custom firmwares don't have random reboots or battery drain. But in terms of the most usable I would suggest telus lite 5.2

For me CM7 is very slow and crashes all the time. But I think I've got some software issues.
In my opinion FroyoMOD 2.8.0b is most stable rom For me, no reboots, freezing etc.
Yep, currently using CM7 RC10 and I think it's working really well.. snappy and stable
I´ve tested for my german Milestone CM6, CM7 RC9 and RC10, MIUI 1.7.1 and at last Ho!No!
The same problems with all this ROMs: Reboots every day, no notification on incoming SMS (except MIUI), no games runs (angry birds, stupid zombies, etc. - except CM6), reboots after one shot with the camera app. With MIUI, I have no free space on internal (although I`ve moved all apps to sd) and no RAM.
And I`ve tested everything with CPUsettings, overclocking, VM Heap settings, build.prop optimization, vsel settings, etc.
I`ve deleted all my favorite apps to get more space and performance. No widgets on screen..
So, I don`t know, which ROM I should test the next :-(
The fact is: Gingerbread ROMs are to heavy for my milestone. So I go back to CM6. I want my games back!!

I'd suggest giving FroyoMOD a try. There are a couple bugs in the latest 2.9 version, but I'm sure luca will get them ironed out, and the versions that I've used have been very stable and very responsive.
I like CM7 as well, but have always found myself cursing the lag and memory shortages that I get after a few days' use. But I'll probably give RC11 a try anyway.
Those of you using Cronos, is Maps working alright?
yeah, FroyoMod is a good Idea.
I love MIUI and CM7 too. The stock sms- and phone-app in MIUI are much better than all others. But for my weak Milestone they are too big.

Need some advice Nooksters.

So I bought my gf a nook. I am in a weird dilemma on what to install. She wants to do it on her own and finds the default OS on it boring. She needed a tablet. I installed Nookie Froyo which boots from the SD card. I think that may slow down the OS. So heres a quesition break down.
Whats the most reliable ROM? (I think FroYo will be a good OS choice)
What method should I use? Should I make her dual boot?
And anyone wanna warn me about some things?
Shes gonna be doing it all herself while I guide her. And I aint a newbie. Have an Archos 101 and I hang out in the Gen8 forums. Hi tho
Use CM7. It is the best rom out there by far.
If she doesn't like the stock rom then i wouldn't bother with a dual boot.

Someone else may be able to give you more information about the Froyo ROMs available for the nook color.. I personally don't have any experience with them so I can't really contrast the difference between it and the other AOSP ROMS available.
I've had the best experience with the CM7 Gingerbread Roms for the nook color. I'm currently running the 147 Nightly build and I've had no issues with it thus far.
The reason I decided on CM7 over the other available roms mainly stems from the community based around that rom for the nook color. They are actively putting out nightly builds with fixes every few days. As you can see by there nightly repo here http://download.cyanogenmod.com/?type=nightly&device=encore CM7 is a very snappy rom with bluetooth support as well as usb device support in the works as well, I'd recommend you go with it.
As for method I personally just put it on the device itself. Running roms from a MicroSD card tends to be more of a hassle than its worth in my opinion. You've gotta make sure your MicroSD card has a high data rate or your system will be noticeably slowed down. The only time I'd recommend that is if you absolutely love the default nook interface. But from what you stated it seems like she doesn't even care for it.
I don't really have any warnings aside from following directions while rooting. Although if you've already rooted the stock rom via a MicroSD in CWR you can backup your stock, wipe cache/partition and install CM7 and gapps and be good to go. If you do go that route and install the rom to the nook itself make sure you update Rom Manager once your in CM7, you can then flash cwr to the nook so you don't have to have it on a MicroSD every time you want to update your rom.
CM7 it is. Thanks guys. Now I gotta make a step by step guide
Step by Step : http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=11452450&postcount=19
NOTE: Skip Step 6 on new nightlies
You might want to hold off for a couple of days. Looks like the next nightly (150?) will have an updated kernel.

Thank you all for the answers. I got CM7 installed on it =]
Give miui a try, I ran the cm7 nightlies for a couple months and all in its a great rom after you make a few tweaks most importantly to me the LCD density.
Once I saw that miui was released for the nook color I tried it out and don't think ill go back to cm7. Its actually based off the cm7 nightlies but the whole ui is modified and think its alot easier to use for someone that is familiar with android a whole lot.
I could go on but do yourself a favor and give it a try.

I have tried almost every ROM for the NC. I would go with CM7, or http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=947071, which has been just as stable for me. If you like the Honeycomb interface, use that.
+1 for CM7... fan-freakin-tastic. Use the "Size-Agnostic..." steps to install to an SD card. There's another sticky for installing to emmc (internal memory). The SD path is nice because you can take the card out and reboot to stock, but I found emmc way more stable personally, plus you don't have to worry about having a bad sd card, etc.
CM7 for sure. Real nice, fast, and stable.
I personally use cm7, but you might want to try miui for her.

Without dragging this out too much, what are the specific benefits of miui. Or better yet, what does it give you that you cannot get with the regular CM7 and some tweaks?

It's a different design, very iOS-esque.
Like I said, I myself prefer CM7, but since you're setting it up for her I figured she might like somthing that's a little simpler.
Just try it, not like it's hard to flash a rom lol
miui??
. found info on it.

[Q] [cm7] most stable(ish) recent nightly?

at all current cm7 users:
i moved away for stability reasons from cm7 around nightly20 after having used it for months. needed 100% safety that my alarm rings in the morning back then.
however i never stopped to check the nightly thread from time to time to be up to date. i now decided to move back to cm7 because i am bored of samsungs slow stock roms and custom roms based on samsungs fw.
as i said i need it as much stable as possible.
which of the recent nightlies has been the most stable for you guys until now? dont want to flash rc since lots of improvements have been made in the meantime.
anyone?
Sent from my GT-I9000
Their all pretty stable now as their has been a lot of bug fixes etc however I do still have a few minor issues where some nightly's don't read my external SD card, but that doesn't bother me, I'm on nightly 92 and it works a charm dude definately ready for everyday use now
Sent from my GT-I9000 using XDA Premium App
First of all you can check the link in my signature to get a look at the problems with the latest nightly's. which you can see don't have problems
In my opinion any nightly from #80 and up are stable with good battery life.
update to gb bootloaders, flash nightly #80 and up! shouldn't have any problems. At least i'm not experiencing any
Thanks for your replies!

Fastest setup for Milestone?

Hi guys,
I'm selling my iphone 4s and in the meantime going back to my milestone till I decide whether I want the iphone 5 or a newer android phone.
I put the latest cm10 release on my milestone but its quite laggy.(almost unbearable). what would you say is the best stable mod right now for milestone that has the least amount of issues and keeps good battery life/performance?
I prefer CM7.2.1 - or MIUI (basing on an older CM7 version)
