CM7 update problem - Galaxy S I9000 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi guys,
I have previously installed CM7 on this link:
(I wıll just give the file names, I cannot give the link. Damn spam check!)
update-cm-7-06032011-NIGHTLY-GalaxyS-signed.zip
Plus I have ınstalled glitch's kernel V10.
They work fine now. But I want to update to latest nightly of CM7 (Currently #34) that I downloaded from here:
download.cyanogenmod.com/?device=galaxysmtd
When I update I have boot loop.
Any ideas?

Okay, at first you have to run the kernel-cleaning-script which is available in the Glitch-Thread. After this you can run the voltage scheduler if you undervolted before (you don't have to run it but I do it and I have less problems).
If the bootloop isn't gone make a factory reset (other things didn't help on my SGS) or just reboot a second time.

Thanks for the reply.
I have tried the factory reset etc. stuff but it didn't worked. I heard a lot of people having problems even updating the next nightly build. Now I just decided to stick to my current working state until a stable CM7 released

Overclocking w/o Cyanogen, breaks my Wifi-Tethering - PLEASE HELP

[Being a new member and not being allowed to post outside links (in case of spam), I've had to "unlink" the links. Sorry for inconvenience.]
Hi all,
Rooted my Nexus One last night and have been spending hours adding all the cool stuff. I'm a noob at all this so it took lots of reading and many hours to understanding rooting, flashing, adb'ing, etc. etc.
My problem is that I cannot get wifi-tethering to co-exist with overclocking.
WIFI-TETHERING
First, I installed wifi-tethering from here:
code.google.com/p/android-wifi-tether/
Updated my kernel first using the instructions here (following "user build" option):
code.google.com/p/android-wifi-tether/wiki/NexusOneKernelUpdate
It worked, and life was good.
OVERCLOCKING
Then I tried to overclock. I saw that most instructions wee based on Cyanogen's ROM, but I noticed that I can do it w/o Cyanogen with some extra work, by basically pushing a bcm4329 file to system/lib/modules:
forums.tmonews.com/index.php?topic=12923.0
I realized that I had already done that when doing my kernel update from wifi-tethering above, so I didn't do that again.
So I just: fastboot flash zimage zImagekmobs
My overclock worked (saw with SetCPU). Life was great!
WIFI-TETHERING PROBLEM
However, then I noticed my wifi-tethering no longer worked. I recovered back to pre-overclocking and my wifi-tether now works again.
Actually, I've encountered a similar problem before, except reversed:
Yesterday, I had actually installed Cyanogen, and overclocked first (got it working). However, I could not get wifi-tethering working. I described my experience here:
nexusoneforum.net/forum/nexus-one-development-hacking/5620-can-someone-help-me-installing-wireless-tether-root.html#post50886
(basically the same problem, except I couldn't update my kernel like I did today, and wifi-tether gave me a similar message.)
(After that, I went back to stock recovery image rom thinking that Cyanogen and wifi-tether did not go well together, and started over again, as described above.)
What do you think is the problem? It looks like the zImagekmobs file I'm using (a 2Mb file, and actually not even sure where I got it from anymore cos I can't find it anywhere now) seems to be incompatible with the kernel update I had done?
I also notice this guide:
nexusonehacks.net/nexus-one-hacks/how-to-overclock-your-nexus-one/
(seems to use a different file: zImage-cm_2633.1-oc-uv )
Should I follow this guide instead?
Any of you using the stock rom w/o Cyanogen and managed to get both wifi-tethering and overclock working? If so, how did you do it?
Would be grateful for any help! Sorry if any of my questions are noob questions but I really am very new to all this!
Thanks lots!
1) The kernel and wifi module go hand-in-hand, when you update one you need to push the compatible wifi module (driver) too. Otherwise wifi wont work.
2) Make sure the OC kernel you're using has support for tethering. It may have been left out when it was built.

Constant rebooting

i have had my ATT N1 for a few months now and all has been great. I rooted awhile back and have been using Cyanogen 5.0.7 to great success. I have the pershoot kernal and never really had any issues.
Well, that has all changed. Recently I have been rebooting any many different occasions. It almost always does it when I am in Maps and navigation, which is not good because I need it in my life having relocated.
I have decided that maybe I will look to update my Cyanogen or maybe go over to 2.2. I did this today and still having these issues. I tried Kang and it still rebooted randomly and when I tried Modacos r17 it just would keep rebooting at the setup screen. I think that has to do with not having the stock kernal.
Any clues as to what is happening? I really need help and do not want to stop using Android, but I need my phone to be reliable.
If it happens on any ROM and with no correlation to anything - sounds like HW problem.
Did you use overclocked kernel?
I do have a overclocked under volted kernal
sounds like bad sw. get back to stock 2.1 update 1 (if you can) and see if your phone is stable...
WIPE all ( everything ) , and flash 2.2
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=692609
Follow those 3 easy steps there !
Does your phone lock up (unresponsive) before rebooting?
Phone doesnt lock up. I tried wiping evertyhing but could not wipe the sd partition. Is that necessary? I have done full wipe's (data, dalvik, & cache) and still had similar results. I have updated my kernal to the newest pershoot and I installed Kang .9b1 and so far have only had 1 rebbot. It happened when I was in the browser and went to a flash heavy site to see how it worked. Is there any 2.2 roms that keep it close to stock? I am not a total fan of adw launcher.
Have a look in this thread,
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=703687
I'm really determined to figure out what is causing this issue for so many people! I've managed to cure my reboots for the time being, and it seems it is kernel related. That said, we need as many people as possible to give feedback as experiences seem to differ in regards to the ROMs and Kernels people are using.
Regards.
I looked over that thread and see some similarities but it is still not totally consistent with my issues. I am running Kang now fine but still have reboots that I won't call so random anymore. It happens when I use Maps for the first time, and definitely when I go to a flash site on the browser.
I cannot successfully use any other ROM since once I install it it goes into boot loop. This is driving me crazy and do not like the thought of being stuck to one ROM since it is the complete reason I bought this phone.

Nook color CM7 wifi issues.

Hey all, I'm running CM7 7.1 rc-1... I just installed dalingrin's latest oc kernel... And it killed my wifi.. It's really bugging me. My nc is currently oc'd @ 1200.. With a min speed of 600. Is the kernel killing my wifi? Or is it the overclocking?
Thanks in advance.
Hi,
interesting. I had the same experience. My case went a little bit further than that as I lost my whole config after trying to fix it ... long story short, after fixing my nook and re-installing back to stock (1.0.1 then upgrade to 1.3). I tried again, installed same distro on SD but I put all the zip files at the same time on the sd card for install (7.1, gapps and OC); everything got installed and no more wifi problems. I also upgraded to full nightly 212. So far, so good.
I also noticed something: after testing a few apps, I would get a weird behavior. In rom manager, fix permissions would fix most of the issues.

hmm.. interesting. I'll give that a try and tell you what happens.
update:
I tried to install the stock firmware by deleting cwm, repartitioning boot to stock (after installing stock 1.1)... now it just loops on the "nook color by bn" screen. any suggestions?
Follow the instructions here and start all over. Choose nightly 200 or higher and make sure you use the latest version of CWR (3.2.0.1): http://mrm3.net/nook-color-how-to-install-cyanogenmod-nightlies/

CM9 or ICS Alpha 3?

What is the difference with these 2 and which one should i choose. I got the alpha 3 right now
Sent from my GT-P1000 using XDA App
Hm... I'll chosse Cyanogenmod 9, I dont know because my tab is p1010 (no ics or cm9), but i think that Cyanogenmod is better.
Hey, did any of you try CM9? I tried 3 times and every time fail. Even after patched zImage came out. I can enter to recovery, do wipe factory, wipe cache but device doesn't boot. Stuck on inital GalaxyTab/SAmsung logo. Cant ask in correct thread as this is my first post.
I uploaded 1000L.zip, then with Heimdall uploaded zImage. Tried with 1000L.zip with replaced zImage in it but this zip can;t be installed (wrong file or sth).
Hi
i would download CM9 because GPS works
Do you know - what version of Google Voice Recognition is used in Alpha 3?
In CM9 you only have standard voice input without "open microphone" feature.
I've installed CM9, and it works, but it's an alpha and not for daily use. The developers are working hard, but there are no easily installable packages yet, or instructions how to get it installed or working. I started with Overcome 4.1, and got the current build. As it is, it's for the P1000L, so you have to get the P1000 kernel as well, and you have to replace the one in the ZIP with that one. You shouldn't just create a new ZIP, because it needs to be signed, and a new one won't be. Then you can update with recovery.
A lot of stuff works, but a number aren't, and as the phone is one of those not working (yet), people who want to just use the Tab probably shouldn't try this. If you like to get developing, or want to help out, know what you're doing and don't mind having a not fully functioning Tab, you can look up the the thread in the development section, get stuck in.
I installed CM9 yesterday and am LOVING it! I followed all directions from Humberos and others that are diligently working on bugs and have almost all functions working (calls/2g/3g/wifi/etc).
Camera doesn't work in normal functions, but will capture an image in panorama mode. This is coming along nicely!
CM9 and Alpha 3 has their good and bad, not to forget, both are still in testing stage and not meant for daily use at the moment.
For now it seems that cm9 has the upper hand in being more stable.
you could also try icedBoca... like the others, different things work
atm i'm on CM9 and most of the stuff works, but i can't connect to "hidden" wifi networks and internal sd / external sd mounting is a little bit mixed up
CM9 of course, I have the galaxy tab P1000N, and i have problems with alpha3 to much bugs and never fix them. Try to use CM9 with Humberos kernel, the room are much better and stable, free lag and never shut down. if u dont like try to use Boca rc1 final version
CM9
CM9 is better. I've tried both on my GSM P1000 and the CM9 is more refined and the repo is being constantly updated if you want to build it yourself.
Yep, CM9 is better but the Alpha 3 is good with few defaults...
I can't wait to flash the two...
What about HW acceleration with CM9 ? The build can play 720p but we don't know if we can play with big games like GTA...
CM9 is whole lot better, it has bluetooth, GPS and many more things working compared to Alpha 3. Today they have even declared USB Hosting is also working.
However, I would wait a little, till they incorporate all the small bugfixes in the ROM/Kernel.

Have you wiped dalvik cache?
BTW I recommend you to use the flashable kernel (Download Page then go to "CwM flashable - Kernel", press P1000 or the appropriate model and download)
In fact a flashable zip should be SignApp'd. Have you do this after you modified a flashable zip. Ask the best friend in the new era how!
One question.. are the roms like, interchangable? Can I switch to each ROMs as per needed?
Also, can I downgrade back to a 2.3 version of Android afterwards?

With CWM/Recoverymode ,no. The problem is the ext4 formating. It is only possible if you flash the firmware 2.3 complete new with odin.

Can't boot CyanogenMod 9 on Motorola Milestone!

Hey guys, I'm having a problem
Sorry if I'm posting this in a wrong area
Well, I'm using CyanogenMod 7.2.0 stable by Kabaldan for Milestone A853. Then I tried to install CyanogenMod 9 Nightly (from Skrilax build bot), the latest version. Everything was going well, then when I tried to boot, a screen about "Android is updating applications" appeared, and then after updating, the phone hard rebooted, back to the M logo. Then I left it booting again, and it rebooted again, though this time the update screen didn't appeared. Sometimes I get the first screen to appear, but I can't even touch the phone because it reboots before I try to do so. I tried installing CyanogenMod 10 (Skrilax nightly build bot again) and the same error happened! What is happening to my phone? I've never found anyone with this problem
Please help me! Thanks.
Did you perform a full wipe before applying CM9/10?

If by full wipe you mean the three wipe options in OpenRecovery (Dalvik, Data and Cache) then yes. I even deleted the /system folder and nothing!
UPDATE: I tried to install CM10, removed system, data and cache through ADB and dalvik cache, installed CM10 and gapps. When booting, the first screen asking for language rapidly appears, and reboots. I tried to boot again, then I rapidly touched the screen when the screen appeared, and it didn't reboot! Well, that's better, but CM10 is too lagged for daily use, that's why I want to install CM9!
I'm using CM10 from couple of days..
I get enough RAM to run apps that I daily use...check for unwanted apps that are not being used, disable it through hwa setting app. Just use it for a day .. IMO CM10 is better than CM9.
BTW I removed gtalk, maps, email, exchange service and other unwanted apps from OR...which I don't use at all..

If nothing solves your problem, you should reflash the SBFs and start all over again. I had to do this sometimes. Formatting the SDCard (after backing-up your personal data) also helps to prevent this from ocurring.
Well, never mind, I was robbed saturday. Thanks for the help folks
Sad! But it's a chance to get a better phone. Good luck!

and BPSW for 2.1.1 is needed? or optional?
It's optional.
You only have to wipe data,dalvik-cache and data (you will lose all your information, so backup everything) and to create an ext partition on your sdcard.

yeah I know, I read the dev thread but can't make replies there. I am now on CM10 from 09/24 (last 4.1.1) and considering about CM10 4.2 but I was little bit confused about BPSW. And will there be problem If I will uprgade from 2.2? Because I don't have nandroid backup of 2.1
(FYI, the current CM10 is based on Android 4.1.2.
4.2 will be the next version of Android and probably CM11 will be based on it.)
Anyway, i upgraded from 2.2 to 4.0.4 and then to 4.1.1 and now 4.1.2.
I believe you can upgrade from 2.2 to 4.1.2 without any problem.
(but always make a nandroid before upgrading)
Yes, it's perfectly possible upgrade from 2.2 Stock ROM, although it's more difficult to root it.
I did it without any problems.
Is there any difference between upgrading from 2.1 or from 2.2?

Yeah, sorry for that mistake, my fault. I upgraded from 2.2 to 4.0.4 and now I have 4.1.1. I tried to upgrade to 4.1.2 from 4.1.1 but it was laggy (10/16 and 10/17) so I restore it back to 4.1.1 which is pretty stable and I will wait to better time for this upgrade, because it is my main phone and my boss is upset when I am not available when he calls me

I've read somewhere, that one must upgrade to 2.2 because upgrading from 2.1 will cause problem with some hardware module.

Kabaldan is working on it. It seems, if the CPU's clockspeed is under 600MHz, then something is wrong with the GPU performance. (So you should consider using Performance CPU governor.)

I know that someone wrote it in dev thread for CM9 or CM10, but my battery is pretty weak, I am glad that with Juice defender it lasts for 12 hours and Performance governor is pretty aggressive to battery drain. Anyway thanks for answering my nooby questions
