NC w/ customized froyo won't boot

Hi folks.
I installed customized nookie froyo five days ago. I also overclocked the CPU, using the "set at boot" option.
I placed the nook on the charger last night, and later noticed it had rebooted, or at least was trying to reboot...
The "nookie froyo" animation during the boot process simply freezes, then tries to restart again, freezes, ad infinitum.
Don't know if it has anything to do w/ the overclocked kernel or not. Is this a common problem? Is there a way to fix it without re-installing?

I actually had the same thing happen to me (OC-ed, endless reboot), I ended up having to restore to stock. I wasn't entirely sure if it was because of the OC-ing, but since you're in a similar situation, it can't be coincidental.

Did you actually need to restore to stock, or could I just install a different image?
Anybody want to chime in on the current state of the non-stock options? Are CM7 or honeycomb looking pretty stable, or should I stick w/ froyo?

How did you overclock? Via a kernal flash or via setcpu (the app)?
Depending on which you used will determine your next step.
If it simple was a kernal, simply use cwm and flash a new kernal.
Thing i have found to help me the past week has been my rom backups from rom manager.
I have been able to recover from 3 'bad' installs and return to my custom froyo 0.6.8 each time so far.
I use the 0.6.8 on sd to get to rommanager when i have overflashed my emmc.

I had used setcpu.
I reinstalled, using ultimate droid 3.1.2.

Good to hear you are back up and running then.
Question: How far did you push your Nook?
I am using the Setcpu with mine and have it set at 1000 as the max.

I was allowing it to max out (1100).

I recently tried HC (Deeperblue version, not the new customized version). It's really interesting, but definitely still a work in progress. I'm currently using Phiremod 5.0, and it's fantastic. 5.1 was released last night, but I haven't had a chance to update.

Has anybody used both UD 3.x and phiremod? Could you compare and contrast them?

Questions about rooting

I have been lurking and reading for a couple of weeks now. I bought a used NC with 1.1 and used Autonooter to root it. Works great.
I bought a second NC which had the 1.2 s/w on it. I used the manualnooter process to root it. That works pretty well.
Now I'm thinking about getting into the nightly CM7 game. I'm wondering is there anything I need to watch out for with the 2 NC's I have if I do this. Do I have to take them back to stock? Can I just follow the CM7 instructions?
Any insight and guidance would be appreciated

50 views and no replies. If you read this and can help I would really appreciate some info. I'm reluctant to proceed until I hear from someone who has traveled the road before. Thanks

You can run CM7, stable or nightly, off of an SD card. You don't have to change anything on your Nooks to do this. In fact, they don't even need to be rooted. Running CM7 on the SD card will not change anything on the built-in memory of the Nook.
Look for the "size agnostic" thread, follow the directions, and you're good to go.
ps. I enjoy your music.

yeah, just follow the instructions on flashing cm7 for the first time. and make sure you understand the CWM instructions. you may want to try a stable rom for now. there are lots of battery and kernel issues right now with the nightly builds. but not to fear the devs are working hard to fix them. just stay with the stable's and your be fine. I hope this was helpful...

Well, I went ahead figuring "How hard could it be anyway?".
I did the nand backup with CWM 3.0.2.8
I then ran ROM manager V4.2.0.2 from internal memory.
I choose the option that allows me to download ROMS.
I chose CyanogenMod, and then chose 7.0.3.
I downloaded the ROM
I then chose Install ROM from SD card
It asked me about clearing caches, etc and I chose the default values already checked.
It installed without errors.
I rebooted and it got to the last part of the boot process where the word "color" is rapidly changing and stayed there indefinitely,
I rebooted with CWM on the SD card and tried to reinstall the Manualnooter I loaded on this NC a week ago.
Rebooted. Still hung up.
I copied my nand backup to the CWN SD card and chose restore.
It booted back to my manualnooter install successfully.
So I'm successfully back where I started.
Can someone help me understand what I did wrong on what I need to do to make it work? Thanks

Not sure what went wrong, but I would also suggest trying verygreen's size-agnostic approach. You keep your manual nooter and can run CM7 from an SD card to see if you want to go all the way and remove the stock BN software.

Or, if you want to go crazy, you could try racks' dual boot SD card image of Phiremod 6.2 (a variation of CM7) and Honeycomb. That's what I'm using and Phiremod works great (aside from battery life ) and honeycomb is just plain slick to use.

Help with bricked NC!

I got the NC from overstock for a good deal. I am pretty savvy technically and have rooted phones, returned to stock from a bricked android phone, etc.
So I got a blue dot 1.2 NC. I was initially planning to do a repartition and then install CM7. Thats how I started. I created a bootable CWM 3.08 uSD card. Ran the repartitioning script (from here). That went well.
Then I was reading about rooting and saw the Manual Nooter thread: this one
On a whim I ran the manual Nooter install, which ran well too ( I later realised that this was for STOCK 1.2 )
Then I installed CM7, gapps and OC kernel in that order which completed successfully too.
Now, when I start the NC, I am stuck at the n COLOR animation. Tried clearing data, cache, etc but nothing works.
How do I get out of this pickle? I am itching to use my first android tablet! Thanks for your help..

Since you are working with the blue dot, you need to upgrade your bootable CWM to version 3.2.0.1. That versions is designed with support for the blue bot. I would then rerun the repartitioning, since most likely it did not work right with the old CWM. At that point you should be able to wipe the system and install CM7, gapps, and OC.

Newby Thoughts
What's a blue dot?
I'm a newby at this but why not start with a factory reset then build up to what you want. Sounds from your posts that you've just been throwing different things at it and somehow expecting things to work. Like I say, newby thoughts but the factory reset and step by step has worked for me--and apparently many others. Let us know if you try and how it works.

Thanks gmpower. That seemed to do the trick. I used CWM 321 and also made sure I did a data system and cache format before I installed CM7. The NC booted into CM7 and everything looks great now

The blue dot is a sign on a box that the new nook is with a new partition setup , rather than what was originally provided with the nook.

does anyone know when these models became pervasive on the market? I have a friend who got a nook after me (mine was March, his in April I guess) and we had trouble following the process with his (which worked great for mine) and I'm just now realizing he may have the new one...

Yes I think my nook from OS came with 1.2 stock. It had the blue dot on the box. I initially turned it on and registered the device on the BN network. Following which I tried the whole rooting and custom ROM thing.
In my case I think using CWM 3.0.8 caused the issues I was having. Switching to 3.2.1 I was good to go.
What are these weird power issues that you are having?

Mine kept powering off randomly and constantly. I unrooted and restored stock, and it still persisted, so warranty replacement on the way!

[Q] Rooted NC wifi stopped working

I have been running MN 4-6-16a on NC software version 1.3 for over a year now. It's not totally stable (I get some freeze-ups occasionally & have to reboot) but it's workable. The other day, my wifi stopped working. Wifi goes off, and when I turn it on, it can't find my router, I get a black box that says 'unable to scan for networks', and it stops responding and the Nook asks me if I want to force close wifi. If I select 'wait' instead of force close, wifi shuts off.
Router works fine, other devices are connected. I have searched other threads, and it seems that some suggest installing CM7, though these suggestions are from a year ago.
Is there something more current I sould be running that would fix this problem. Suggestions would be greatly appreciated for this newbie.

The latest ROM for Nook Color is CM10 Jellybean 4.1.2 with a 3.08+ kernel. You can install it on a SD card and try it.If you like how it works you can install it internally. There are great tips threads you can utilize to help get you to the latest ROM. I use CM10 internally on my Nook Color. My other Nook Color has CM7.1 (gingerbread with 2.6.32 kernel). CM10 is running pretty smooth and just as fast as CM7.2.

Wow, that thread has 155 pages ... hard to get through all that .... I did read the first page, though
OK, so I should download CM10 latest nightly version & install ... I don't seem to have a way to back up my data or current ROM since I don't have an internet connection that works. Yes, I could install to SD, but I've read that there can weird problems with this? So I was going to jump right in to an internal install, but it looks like I will lose data for my apps. Is there any advantage to downloading CM7 instead of 10? I ask only because I found a good site with good (newbie) instructions on doing CM7, and the site I found for CM10 has some stuff that I don't completely understand.

For SD card cm10 installation (use Sandisk class 4 or 6)

Get the latest CM10 nightly here http://get.cm/?device=encore
Make sure to use Gapps 20121011.
Here are the steps involved to make a bootable sd card:
Unzip the ...Rev5.zip
Use program Win32diskimager.exe to write the above unzipped image to SD card
Copy latest Cm10 nightly to sdcard (do not unzip)
Copy gapps 20121011 to SD card (do not unzip)
Safely eject SD card from computer
Backup your Nook apps/data to separate SD card or computer. If you have Clockwork Mod Recovery installed do a nandroid backup on sd
Turn off Nook Color
Insert SD card you created above
Turn on Nook color
Watch the Cm10 splash screen come to life.
Have you tried rebooting your Nook color to see if it can attach to your router?
CM7 is dated on gingerbread and 2.6.32 kernel. CM10 is Jellybean on 3.08+ kernel.

I am going to take a look at upgrading the stock software and then rooting to see if I can get that working as well, as I prefer the B&N interface/look-and-feel. But in the meantime, at least I have a functioning tablet again. Thank you!

Issues With Touchpad

Hello, I have had a touchpad for some time and but CM9 and CWM on it some time ago, but it started having some issues recently. So I figured I should try and reinstall a newer version of CM and start from scratch.
I went to this post http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2026692 and downloaded both the skz+tenderloin-1.10.zip and the gapps zip.
I then placed those into the Download folder on the touchpad.
This is where things took a turn. I rebooted to get into CWM, upon selecting it from the boot menu it kept restarting back to the boot menu. After a few tries it got into CWM. I then wiped the data and did a factory reset, wiped the cache, and then wiped the dalvik like the post said to do. I then went to install zip from sdcard. Found the skz+tenderloin zip and chose to install that. CWM says it starts to install but then before the progress bar fills up at all...it resets back to the bootloader.
At this point I am at a loss with what to do and I would really appreciate any help I can get with this.
UPDATE: I figured starting from scratch would be the best bet, so I have uninstalled CM9 and CWM using ACMEUninstall. Now I am wondering if it is worth using CM10 as my default Android or should I stick with the best CM9.
Either way, if I should use CM9 or 10 can someone either help me or point me in the right direction for the best tutorial on doing this properly?

Restore a backup then DL an updated version of CM9 to flash or upgrade to ACMEInstaller3 to give you a larger system partition along with the latest version of CWM in order to install a CM10 rom apart from oats which does not require the extra space .
There are numerous guides and you should probably read up on a little bit before just flashing a rom to avoid the problems you are having .

The issue I am encountering is there is a ton of info out there, some outdated some not. I restored back to stock webOS with nothing else. I have ACMEInstaller 3 in the Palm directory, so I am ready to install the most stable/best CM9 currently out there, I just don't know which tutorial is the best one to follow. Could you perhaps just link me to one you recommend?

I installed CM9 based on the link above with the AIO package. It worked flawlessly, hopefully my freezing/restarting issues happen less often now. Thanks to all who offered help.

I can tell you that I use my Schizoid as my daily driver, and it's not a preview.
