Hello, I have had a touchpad for some time and but CM9 and CWM on it some time ago, but it started having some issues recently. So I figured I should try and reinstall a newer version of CM and start from scratch.
I went to this post http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2026692 and downloaded both the skz+tenderloin-1.10.zip and the gapps zip.
I then placed those into the Download folder on the touchpad.
This is where things took a turn. I rebooted to get into CWM, upon selecting it from the boot menu it kept restarting back to the boot menu. After a few tries it got into CWM. I then wiped the data and did a factory reset, wiped the cache, and then wiped the dalvik like the post said to do. I then went to install zip from sdcard. Found the skz+tenderloin zip and chose to install that. CWM says it starts to install but then before the progress bar fills up at all...it resets back to the bootloader.
At this point I am at a loss with what to do and I would really appreciate any help I can get with this.
UPDATE: I figured starting from scratch would be the best bet, so I have uninstalled CM9 and CWM using ACMEUninstall. Now I am wondering if it is worth using CM10 as my default Android or should I stick with the best CM9.
Either way, if I should use CM9 or 10 can someone either help me or point me in the right direction for the best tutorial on doing this properly?
Restore a backup then DL an updated version of CM9 to flash or upgrade to ACMEInstaller3 to give you a larger system partition along with the latest version of CWM in order to install a CM10 rom apart from oats which does not require the extra space .
There are numerous guides and you should probably read up on a little bit before just flashing a rom to avoid the problems you are having .

The issue I am encountering is there is a ton of info out there, some outdated some not. I restored back to stock webOS with nothing else. I have ACMEInstaller 3 in the Palm directory, so I am ready to install the most stable/best CM9 currently out there, I just don't know which tutorial is the best one to follow. Could you perhaps just link me to one you recommend?

Should I use CM10 or stick with 9? People say there are still issues with it and it's more of a preview build and not really meant to be used as your standard OS.

I installed CM9 based on the link above with the AIO package. It worked flawlessly, hopefully my freezing/restarting issues happen less often now. Thanks to all who offered help.

I can tell you that I use my Schizoid as my daily driver, and it's not a preview.

Seen an alpha 3 ICS rom. Can I just download that and flash it over my current rom or does it habecto be done certain way. I've flashed before on my evo but this seems a little bit more complicated

I'd rather go the full procedure they describe within their thread - imho especially you have needs for clockworkmod. Found that to be a quite safe way for me.
I would I just don't have access to a pc. Does ICS run fine on your tablet. Is it worth it
Sent from my SPH-P100 using XDA App
Once you have CWM Recovery installed, getting the ICS Alpha on your tab is not difficult if it's listed as supported in the thread.
Only thing: This is an ALPHA build. That means many things are not functional. The build is aimed at developers/testers.
Having given a shot at it, this build is surely not a daily driver for someone who needs its tab to be functional and reliable. Many of those problems have work arounds however but since the tablet is not mostly used by myself, I did not take the risk of having it be unreliable...
In short: it should work and not eat your hamster... But it is not a fully functional rom yet, be prepared for some trouble... Be sure you know how to go back in case of trouble... and read instructions carefully
If you want a good ICS rom here ya go. FYI!!! THIS IS FOR CDMA TABS!!!
Get rooted and CWM'd via Rodderick's thread in our Development section.
From there do the following (all credit to JT from here on out)
Download http://k.22aaf3.com/jt1134/vzwtab/cwm-recovery-5.0.2.7.tar
Extract the contents. You will have two files zImage and recovery.bin
Odin these two files to your tab while your tab is plugged in to the PC and in Download mode. This will bring your clockworkmod up to 5.0.2.7 which is a must to install the rom I'm about to link.
Next go to this thread
http://rootzwiki.com/topic/11697-rom-cdma-aosp-ics-cm9-build-31-0104-x-2/
At the bottom of the first post download the 3.1 ROM the 3.1 Patch and the gapps files.
Once those are downloaded boot your tab up to normal operations and plug it into your PC again. Now transfer those three files to your tab.
Boot up into clockwork recovery wipe the cache, dalvik, and do a factory data reset. Then flash the 3.1 file first, then flash the 3.1 Patch, then flash the gapps files.
If everything says it installed correctly the only things that won't be working are camera (which it does work in panorama mode) and possibly 3G. (Never tested 3G as I only use wifi).
Can you please post pictures and how can I check which cwm I already have? If I already have 5.0 can I just go ahead and flash? One more thing is this a whole new ICS or the ones going around. Thank you much
So I checked and I got 4.0 cwm. With that said. I don't have access to a pc. Is there any other way to upgrade to 5.0 cwm? PLEASE someone reply with yes. I'm getting bored with this andcwpuld like to try ICS. Thanks

Without access to a PC I think you are making life very difficult for yourself.
You do not state what Tab you have; below I linked to the install for the P1010 only...I did this for reference because you will see it required Odin to flash it i.e. access to a PC.

Thank for the reply. Yeah I know it makes it, harder just seeing if there was a way around it. I'm playing with the sprint galaxy tab. Not much to play with out there for it.
I have been running CM7 on my HP Touchpad for quite some time. I would like to try other ROMS (CM9, AOKP ICS, MIUI) and I have read completing methods for doing this (return to stock, format, clear cache, flash, etc). Since I am relatively new at this, I wanted to ask a few questions so I know what I am getting into and whether or not I can get out of it should I need to.
1. For AOKP, it specifies "Make sure you have the latest CWM". How do you know what the latest is? I have version 5.0.25.2 (I think -- installed with CM7). Is that late enough?
2. Do I put the .zip files in the cminstall folder on the "sdcard" and flash with CWM (after clearing the caches)?
3. Is it necessary to use ACMEInstaller2 or is that an alternate approach to flashing with CWM?
4. If I install CM9, AOKP, or MIUI over CM7, which ACME Uninstaller do I use if I want to take Android off my TP (the one that came out with CM7 or a later version)?
5. Can I go directly to AOKP or MIUI from CM7 or should I install CM9 first?
6. Should I totally remove CM7 before trying any of these other ROMS?
Thank you for any help you can give me. I know there are discussions on much of this all over these boards but for someone new like myself, there is actually too much info and it gets confusing.
The reason I want to make sure I can get Android off again is because I did have an issue that required return of the TP to HP. I was able to use ACME Uninstaller in that case to remove CM7 and it worked great.
Thanks again.

You can put them anywhere, just remember where you put the zip file so you can navigate to it in Clockworkmod. Also, remember to clear cache, data, and dalvik cache before flashing a new rom, not just cache.

No, that's only for installing an android rom from the start, if you only have webos. Once you have clockworkmod, you flash new roms from there.

I don't think it matters what rom you are on if you want to uninstall android completely. But I would use the latest, which I think is acme uninstaller 2

You can flash any rom you want, as long as you wipe everything first. I would highly recommend trying out cm9, it works almost 100% perfectly on my TP.

As I said above, just wipe cache, data, and dalvik cache before flashing a new rom.

1. For AOKP, it specifies "Make sure you have the latest CWM". How do you know what the latest is? I have version 5.0.25.2 (I think -- installed with CM7). Is that late enough? - If you're installing via ACMEInstaller2, you dont need to worry about this. Otherwise, 5.0.2.6 is the latest version.
2. Do I put the .zip files in the cminstall folder on the "sdcard" and flash with CWM (after clearing the caches)? - The zips only need to be in cminstall if you're installing by ACMEInstaller2. Otherwise they can be anywhere on the SD card.
3. Is it necessary to use ACMEInstaller2 or is that an alternate approach to flashing with CWM? - Its an alternate approach to CWM. ACMEInstaller2 should be used in place of the original ACMEInstaller because the original does not work properly with CM9. If you're not doing a 100% clean install (that is, if you've never ran any version of ACMEInstaller before OR if you've ran ACMEUninstaller) you dont need it.
4. If I install CM9, AOKP, or MIUI over CM7, which ACME Uninstaller do I use if I want to take Android off my TP (the one that came out with CM7 or a later version)? - There is only one version, the original ACMEUninstaller works fine.
5. Can I go directly to AOKP or MIUI from CM7 or should I install CM9 first? I doubt it, but you could always try. Keep in mind that the only way to do an upgrade install is by ACMEInstaller2, if you're using CWM you must wipe data first. Also know that many people who have done an upgrade install over CM7 have had issues.
6. Should I totally remove CM7 before trying any of these other ROMS? - Not needed, but you should wipe data as with any other rom.
Thank you for any help you can give me. I know there are discussions on much of this all over these boards but for someone new like myself, there is actually too much info and it gets confusing.

Hey guys, I'm having a problem
Sorry if I'm posting this in a wrong area
Well, I'm using CyanogenMod 7.2.0 stable by Kabaldan for Milestone A853. Then I tried to install CyanogenMod 9 Nightly (from Skrilax build bot), the latest version. Everything was going well, then when I tried to boot, a screen about "Android is updating applications" appeared, and then after updating, the phone hard rebooted, back to the M logo. Then I left it booting again, and it rebooted again, though this time the update screen didn't appeared. Sometimes I get the first screen to appear, but I can't even touch the phone because it reboots before I try to do so. I tried installing CyanogenMod 10 (Skrilax nightly build bot again) and the same error happened! What is happening to my phone? I've never found anyone with this problem
Please help me! Thanks.
Did you perform a full wipe before applying CM9/10?

If by full wipe you mean the three wipe options in OpenRecovery (Dalvik, Data and Cache) then yes. I even deleted the /system folder and nothing!
UPDATE: I tried to install CM10, removed system, data and cache through ADB and dalvik cache, installed CM10 and gapps. When booting, the first screen asking for language rapidly appears, and reboots. I tried to boot again, then I rapidly touched the screen when the screen appeared, and it didn't reboot! Well, that's better, but CM10 is too lagged for daily use, that's why I want to install CM9!
I'm using CM10 from couple of days..
I get enough RAM to run apps that I daily use...check for unwanted apps that are not being used, disable it through hwa setting app. Just use it for a day .. IMO CM10 is better than CM9.
BTW I removed gtalk, maps, email, exchange service and other unwanted apps from OR...which I don't use at all..

If nothing solves your problem, you should reflash the SBFs and start all over again. I had to do this sometimes. Formatting the SDCard (after backing-up your personal data) also helps to prevent this from ocurring.
Well, never mind, I was robbed saturday. Thanks for the help folks
Sad! But it's a chance to get a better phone. Good luck!

- Erase and format SD card
- Partion the SD card angain
- Root the fone and flash to the latest CM10
And now, my stone works like a charm and I have not yet to have idea to change to a new phone now :victory:

and BPSW for 2.1.1 is needed? or optional?
It's optional.
You only have to wipe data,dalvik-cache and data (you will lose all your information, so backup everything) and to create an ext partition on your sdcard.

yeah I know, I read the dev thread but can't make replies there. I am now on CM10 from 09/24 (last 4.1.1) and considering about CM10 4.2 but I was little bit confused about BPSW. And will there be problem If I will uprgade from 2.2? Because I don't have nandroid backup of 2.1
(FYI, the current CM10 is based on Android 4.1.2.
4.2 will be the next version of Android and probably CM11 will be based on it.)
Anyway, i upgraded from 2.2 to 4.0.4 and then to 4.1.1 and now 4.1.2.
I believe you can upgrade from 2.2 to 4.1.2 without any problem.
(but always make a nandroid before upgrading)
Yes, it's perfectly possible upgrade from 2.2 Stock ROM, although it's more difficult to root it.
I did it without any problems.
Is there any difference between upgrading from 2.1 or from 2.2?

Yeah, sorry for that mistake, my fault. I upgraded from 2.2 to 4.0.4 and now I have 4.1.1. I tried to upgrade to 4.1.2 from 4.1.1 but it was laggy (10/16 and 10/17) so I restore it back to 4.1.1 which is pretty stable and I will wait to better time for this upgrade, because it is my main phone and my boss is upset when I am not available when he calls me

I've read somewhere, that one must upgrade to 2.2 because upgrading from 2.1 will cause problem with some hardware module.

Kabaldan is working on it. It seems, if the CPU's clockspeed is under 600MHz, then something is wrong with the GPU performance. (So you should consider using Performance CPU governor.)

I know that someone wrote it in dev thread for CM9 or CM10, but my battery is pretty weak, I am glad that with Juice defender it lasts for 12 hours and Performance governor is pretty aggressive to battery drain. Anyway thanks for answering my nooby questions
I have a rooted Droid 4 running 4.1.2. I have only flashed a ROM onto a phone once before, on an LG Ally a few years ago. So I'm proceeding cautiously. I've tried to do some research and just confused myself further. I'm just going to post my questions here and hopefully you guys can help. I appreciate it in advance.
1. I don't have custom recovery on the phone yet. It's just rooted at this point. What recovery would you guys recommend? I've seen some references to GooManager -- would that app automate the custom recovery installation for me, or do I need to download Safestrap or something like that to the computer and install from there?
2. Do I have to root again after that?
3. What is the highest current stable version of Cyanogenmod that will run on this phone?

1. I don't know anything about GooManager or if it is compatible with the D4 but safestrap is a really great piece of software that is easy to use. I highly recommend it. Just download and install the app on your phone. Then open the app and install recovery. From there, when you reboot, you will be given the option to boot into safestrap recovery where you can install your ROMs.
2. You will not need to re-root your phone.
3. I am running CM10.2 (Android 4.3) nightlies and have found them to be very stable. I've also heard the latest stable version of CM10.1 (Android 4.2.2) is very good as well.
Now I have a Wi-Fi problem

Thank you. I got CM10.2 nightly for 9/28 installed and working. There is only one problem I found so far -- I can't get wi-fi to connect at home. It says it's authenticating, then it saves, then it says there is an authentication problem. I have no problems when I run stock, but it will not work with CM 10.2
I researched online and found lots of people having problems. Some people re-flashed the ROM and it fixed it, others tried this, that or the other and weren't even sure what fixed the problem. Some never fixed it at all.
I did the Wipe/Factory Reset. I re-flashed the ROM. I went back and flashed the 9/27 nightly since 9/28 didn't work. I rebooted my router. I did a Forget on the network and re-added it. My password is correct. I'm at a loss. Not having WiFi with this ROM is like having a great new car that does everything you want except it doesn't do left turns.

Sounds like you have tried most of the things I would have tried to fix it. One other thing you can try: open the Terminal app. Type "SU" and press enter. Then type "wificall.sh" and press enter. That will recalibrate the wifi on the phone. One other thing that comes to mind is I remember some people mentioning when they flashed a new ROM the D4s MAC address got changed which screwed with the wifi connection to their router. I can't remember what the fix was for it, but might be something to google if wifical does not fix it.

Wifi has been hit and miss lately. I had to go back to 9/26 nightly. Didn't have working wifi until 10/2 nightly.
Some of the guys in the development thread found some clues as to why. The must be working on the wifi drivers in the nightlies right now.

This thread looks like a proper place to address that step as it appears to be exactly what you do after you get CM running.
Thanks!

Find the gapps for your version of cm and flash like you did the ROM. Usually you would flash the gapps when you do the ROM.

1. I prefer safestrap, you can install up to 4 more ROMs in addition to stock ROM. And it's the safest method to try those ROMs
2. That depends on the ROM you are going to install. Most custom ROMs have been rooted already.
3. CM11 that is Android 4.4 KitKat, sweet eh? (correction : CM11 is not stable development yet, but it is latest and nicely working)
Today I tried flashing CM 10.1.3.2 stable over some old Cm10 nightly (emmc).
So I reboot into CWm and "wipe data and factory reset" before flashing the rom.

First boot took a long while as usual but the nook was very sluggish even after booting.
Also ,astonishingly, I had GAPPS(!) installed on this ROM even though I precisely remember not having flashed the gapps package in CWM.
I double checked the md5 hash and re-flashed the ROM but to no avail. Still same issues.
THE SOLUTION
Flummoxed I started searching if Google had suddenly started allowing CM to include gapps with the ROM. No luck there.
Then I saw eyeballer's comment here. Worked like a charm.
So basically, when in doubt, format /system
Post formatting /system and another fresh install things go back to normal. No ghost of gapps. No extra sluggishness. All cool. :good:
Now, this solution worked for me and hence I'd recommend it to anyone in a fix but I can't seem to be able to find a specific reasong for such behavior apart from a broken zip.
Cheers!
Thanks for the tip!

The reason gapps stays if you installed it earlier is because the ROM zip installer script has a routine built in to save previously installed gapps if you are flashing the same ROM that is just an update. It does that so you do not have to flash gapps again after a ROM update. The only way to get rid of them is to manually format /system with CWM before flashing the update.
