Hi guys, just this week I got a new Galaxy Tab from T-Mobile, so far so good, but I have a few questions about it.
1-) This is my first time using Android, is there a better version or ROM for this particular tab (or another that is fully compatible) which I should flash into it which is better or gives me more functionality than the default Android installation that T-Mobile puts on it?
2-) How are upgrades of Android OS obtained? I heard 3.0 is out, any ideas if Samsung or T-Mobile will make it available on these devices?
3-) Can "Line2" be used with it? I noticed when I'm connected to Wi-Fi at home Line2 works, but when I'm connected to 3G it wont work.
4-) Is it easy to install Themes on the Galaxy Tab, any tutorials?
5-) Any specific tricks/tweaks or apps, that are a must have for Galaxy Tab owners?
Thanks in advance!

I also just got my SGT T-mobile. What is the model number of your tablet? What is the Baseband version of your tablet? Have you rooted yours?
Mine's model is SGH-T849, Baseband T849UVJJB, and yes, I downloaded a program from this board which supposedly roots it, after installing and running the commands it said it had successfully rooted my device, now how do I know if it is really rooted?
Also what's the Baseband? lol sorry but I'm lost, this is my first ever tablet and also first ever Android OS device.

We both have the same model and baseband. I'm not sure what baseband is. You can check to see if your tablet is rooted by going to Applications and look around to see if you can find a Superuser icon.
If it's rooted, I guess your next step is to find a custom ROM and flash it.
Do you remember what you used to root your tablet? Was it SuperOneClick?
Yes, it was the SuperOneClick one from http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=812367
Baseband is the modem you have. The modem controls the phone, wirelass data, wifi, and bluetooth. Yours is JJB.

Well, I'm not an expert but here is my experience:
1. You should flash the new Overcome experience Hermes:
http://overcome.mimzo.com/
There is also the unofficial cyanogenmod beta, but as you said the overcome is fully compatible and it will not change the feel of the Tab, just adds to the functionality.
2. The updates are two types:
# Official, these are over the air and you will find notifications in the notification area to tell you that there is a new update, or may be through kies for Samsung.
# Unofficial, which is basically flashing other ROMs whether official or custom.
# As for Android 3.0 (which is called honeycomb), it is not officially coming to the Tab. May be after the 3.2 announced a couple of days ago, but I still don't think so. Still, you might want to follow this thread as there are trials to get it fully working on the Tab:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1122959
3. I don't have any idea about this, as I got mine used and then I rooted and flashed it the day I got it.
4. Of course there are themes for the Android. This Overcome I was telling you about has a Gold theme. There are a lot of ways to get themes on the Tab. I myself use different home launchers with different themes. You don't need to flash anything if you are just looking to change the looks of your device. Check this out and let me know if you like it:
Go Launcher EX https://market.android.com/details?id=com.gau.go.launcherex&feature=search_result
There are a lot other but this is my favorite. You can even change the fonts of the display.
5. The most common used tips and tweaks that you should use is over-clocking/ under-volting which gives you more speed and less battery drainage.
As for the apps, these are my favorites:
Tango, Photfunia, ezPDF reader, Movies (or IMDB), Springpad (or Catch), File Expert, Go Launcher, Go weather, Google Goggles, Google Shopper, Just reader, Splashtop, Plex, GrooveIP. I guess there are more on my device but these are the ones that I found more functional and fun to use.
Hope this helps...
Thanks rangercaptain,
Hey ahmadshawki, thanks so much, I will check out all of your suggestions, does overcome comes with Gingerbread?
Yes it does.

Any 2.2 rom is froyo (frozen yogurt).
Any 2.3 rom is gingerbread.
You can have either "flavor". They are both in the development section. Both are highly recommended.
Hi guys,
I've been visiting this forum for more than 6 months now, but I think this is my first post. I have a T-Mobile SGH-T849 GT-P1000.
Last year I unlocked it and changed it to a Gingerbread Euro. Below is the current setup:
Firmware version 2.3.3
Baseband version P1000XXJPZ
Kernel version 2.6.35.7 [email protected] #2
Build number GINGERBREAD.XXJQ1
Tab has been working fine, with the exception of:
- often does not remember wi-fi hotspots automatically, need to switch off/on wi-fi to do this
- 3G & phone works erratically. I don't use it as a phone, but those times that I tried I noticed the phone would loose connectivity to the mobile network and needed a reboot in order to fix it.
I'd like to upgrade it to Ginger 2.3.6, but which rom should I use? I checked on the forum, but I'm not sure if I should use this:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1380595&page=3
or any other.
Is my modem correct or should I use this guide:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=902323&page=4
to install JL5 modem?
Sorry for the noob questions.
I have a galaxy tab 7+ sgh-t869 I need to chance my build prop in order to play order and chaos online it doesn't support operating system I have no idea how to chance it or what to change it to please help thanks

I did a search and was unable to find information on flashing stock Gingerbread 2.3.4 for the Verizon Galaxy Tab 7 (SCH-I800). Is this possible, and with root?
I would love to get a more stable build onto this machine. It crashes alot. also something more responsive would be great too Now that its out for the Sprint Vs. Does that mean its possible to get it on ours?
There hasn't been an official release of Gingerbread for the Samsung Galaxy Tab SCI-I800 (Verizon model). I'm getting very, very impatient and annoyed by it too, especially not that the Sprint model (VERY similar to ours) has already gotten that upgrade and we're still waiting without any details about when to expect it to come to us. VERY annoyed.
Flash the Sprint version that's rooted on here.
Hell, how can one root first?
I have tried NUMEROUS methods at rooting my Galaxy Tab, just to try and get the bloatware off of my device in hopes at making it work smoother, but that didn't work. Anyone, ANYONE, know a fool proof method at rooting the VZW Galaxy Tab 7? z4root, gingerbreak, etc, all didn't work. Ended up having to reset my device just to correct most major issues that the failed root attempts created.

Just rerooted mine (my original z4root stopped working after the last update) and after combing through who knows how many posts and methods, I got it to work with version 1.7 of superoneclick. For some reason 1.9 would get stuck in the middle, but 1.7 had no problem. Good luck.
Can we really just flash the Sprint version? That won't break anything?
Thanks!
It will not connect to 3G but it works fine on wifi. I have been running it for 3 weeks.
Awesome... I don't use 3G anyhow. Thanks a bunch!
I got my tab finally rooted. Now need to have fun!

Why would a stock rom not be stable? Besides the thread is several pages long with folks posting their experiences, me included.
It is very stable, with all the bloat and everything. Suggest BTL Confidence & Paranoia v01 if you dont want any of the bloat. Stable with some minor bugs.
yes the BTL confidence and paranoia is a great rom, I have the sch-i800 verizon model too.
looks like i missed the boat on that one.

HOW!!!!!!?????????
So i got the 8.9 last week and am pretty happy so far. My main uses are internet surfing and hd videos from youtube and play store. However one of my only complaints is that this thing isnt the fastest. I upgraded to official ics when i first got the tab and its not bad but still id like to install Asop jellybean and overclock the tab to 1.2 or 1.4. However id hate to brick my tab which i see on here all the time. The only problem is i have no idea how to root, even after reading and searching for the past week. My question is could some one tell me or show me a link to show EXACTLY how to root to the newest asop jb from official ics without bricking and then tell me how to oc it? I am such a noob with this, I dont know what kernels or anything is. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Not sure how missed this thread in the list. It's stickied at the very top.

Good thing i didn't go a head and try to root. I have official ics installed and apparently you have to flash so,e cmw rom or something but i have no idea how to do that, i have searched the forums and all the instructions are just kind of bland and not real specific. Sad as it is, i am someone who needs exact instructions and explanations of how to specifically complete each instruction. Sorry that i am being a pain. I just bought thus tab on a amazon credit card and have not even, ade the first payment that is why I am so worried about bricking or messing up the tab. Thanks for any help

Hmm. I'd be careful recommending ROMs just yet. He hasn't mentioned which model of 8.9 Tab he has.
Given that he mentions he's already on ICS I'd assume he's probably got a wifi-only P7310. He doesn't mention any other radio types (3G, LTE, etc.).
@Wrebbs, what model 8.9 tab do you have?

I've tried various roms and liked cm10 very much. Had to flash stock 3.2 via odin to get rid of the garbled screen issue and decided to try update OTA to ics that worked and i'm running stock ics on my dutch 7310 now this works fairly well, so i am going to wait untill the battery drain issue is being fixed on cm10 and try again then

Not happy with the stock ICS version of the Tab? Did it upgrade over kies? Are you in the US? I am in Europe and have the 3G version. Have to use a ported rom from 7500 to get ICS.
The ICS I have runs really smooth! Price was good aswell. Strange that your TAB is slow...
Only problem I have is that Adobe Flash gives me some trouble in HD and on some sites.
I tried HC 3.2 Stock, CM10 JB 4.1, SafariKing ICS and ported ICS from 7500 v2 and honestly - If I had stock original ICS I think I would stay with it! The Jellybean ROMs still have issues. in Alpha Beta stages.
The Tracid rom mentioned might be the next rom I try, but still happy with the ICS rom I have. If it aint broke don't fix it... (Itchy though, flashing roms is fun.)
Take it from someone whos hard bricked before, take your time and do your homework. Make sure you know the rom is for your specific device. You're not going to see drastic speed increases even if oc'd. So take your time and re-read everything. Your going to have to flash a recovery first, cwm or twrp through odin. Again, make sure it's for your device. Then you can root or flash a rooted rom. Once again, make sure it's for your device.

Hello folks
Im enjoying my Gs3 lately but my step daughter isnt enjoying her galaxy mini so i swapped my ported wave 1 and shes loving it lol anyway i now have this galaxy mini can i update the software by porting the phone or does it need to be unlocked from tesco first? its asking for a network lock control key? i can dismiss as there is an option to dismiss and play about with the phone its currently android version 2.3.5 build number "GINGERBREAD ,XWKS7" im in ireland thanks
there's no need to unlock network or bootloader. as you're already on gingerbread, just flash cwm with odin and then pick your poison (rom) you can find all tutorials and guides somewhere around without any problems, just don't ever use rom manager, it tends to brick galaxy mini when you flash cwm with it.

i have cyanogenmod 7 on the mini now but do i need 10.1 to have google playstore? i want to get some apps etc
edit update
OK i have to do this "Optional: Place any supplemental packages (eg Google Apps or kernel) .zip file(s) on the root of the SD card."
which over looked in the install guide so here goes the 10.1 attempt lol
oh my brain lol i had cm-7 flashed on the samsung mini and was working away fine but no google play store
and only android keyboard so i realised i needed other zip files to have other features so i found these tass-recovery-cwm.tar
cm-7-20130201-NIGHTLY-tass.zip
Samsung_Keyboard_CM7_En-It-Es-Pt.zip
Trans-Soft-Buttons-Nightly-08192012.zip
gapps-gb-20130109-signed.zip
when i reflashed the phone etc the phone firstly ended up with no keyboard despite having the android keyboard selected when i go into language and keyboard settings it backs up to the main menu so i tried again and now its stuck in some kind of boot loop.
ive put this stock rom (MJKT3_annson08) on now and it seems fine but can anyone advise whats happened with my cm-7 setup which was fine the first time but as i said i only had android keyboard and no play store etc the fix seemes easy but its not working for me thanks
i guess that the keyboard you flashed was faulty, and to have play store and such you need to flash gapps_gb package instead of samsung keyboard, try downloading swype
I've been searching and reading for the last 3 days for a stock USA ROM for my wife's Tab 8.9.
Her current ROM is showing performance issues, wifi suffering, apps randomly uninstall and I'd like to get her back to stock.
Can anyone guide/point me in the right direction.
Edit: I should add it is the GT-P7310 currently running [4.3][P7310] Android-HD (CM10.2 BASED)

the question is why do you need the ROM to be precisely USA???, cuz I didn't find any ether [and I don't think you'll ever find]
if being from USA means to you that it is the only ROM that you can put the system language as USA, so you're wrong.
the only difference between ROMs origins is for updating from the update center in the system
and since you are willing to update from Odin, then there is no difference between the ROMs' origins
and if you are interested in manual changing, you can flash any ROM and make it USA by editing the build prop
aaaand if you are inrerested, I removed all the origin depending data from MY ROM, so it is clean and the default language in it is US
Woooow, that's a lot of talking,,,,
I hope this can help:angel:

I realize it shouldn't be an issue, but every other ROM I have dl'ed and attempted to load will hang on either the boot screen or the initial setup screen.
My true need is a solid stock either bloated or not that I can stuff over on to it via ODIN.

Ok, I understood from your reply that you're searching now for an Odin official framework for your GT-P7310
if this is it then GO HERE [this is a link for the latest official update for GT-P7310], download it and unzip it then flash it through Odin and your good to go

Roll back Samsung Galaxy Tab S2 T719 T719XXU1BRA1 from 7->6 - correct firmware advice
Hi,
Sorry for a noob question, just want to make sure I don't get this wrong as I've not reflashed a tablet before and I can't find an answer that specifically addresses this question.
My Samsung Galaxy TAB S2 8.0 T719 4G 32GB Qualcomm 3072 MB is running Android 7.0 and I have a must-use app that won't get along with anything above Android 6, so I need to downgrade.
The Baseband version of the tablet is T719XXU1BRA1.
I'm in the UK, the tablet has LTE, which I need, and it should be unlocked to all networks. It was supplied by Amazon UK but I suspect it's not a UK specific model.
I've searched for 6.x ROMs for this specific version, but cannot find one that exactly matches the model number and I'm not sure if any T719 version will do (eg I think some are network-specific or aren't for LTE-equipped versions).
I'd be happy using an official Samsung 6.x ROM if it'll retain app functions that are blocked by a rooted phone (my bank's app wont work on a rooted phone, for instance) but I'd really like one that gave me control to remove the bloatware and keep things clean, even if that meant sacrificing the bank app functionality.
Can anyone point me towards the specific ROM I should use for either route?
Thanks very much.
J
You can use any T719 rom, only old 6.0.1. available.
Choose from here, slow download but it works https://www.sammobile.com/firmwares/galaxy-tab-s2/SM-T719/
It will be unbranded, all languages available for European roms( e.g Romania)
The only problem that can occur is the bootloader.
On newer Samsung devices it doesn't allow to downgrade.
You can try with Odin.

Shouldn't need to downgrade the bootloader as they are usually backwards compatible with the previous OS version.
Just flash AP.
As for root and apps refusing to work, Magisk hide can handle most of them.
